The
grandeur
of
the
archway
over
I-80
beckoned
on
our
way
to
Colorado
in
early
August,
but
our
visit
to
this
intriguing
place
would
have
to
wait
until
our
return
trip
to
Iowa.
We
spent
the
night
in
Kearney
on
our
way
home,
and
visited
the
museum
bright
and
early.
From
the
second
we
walked
in
the
door
we
were
greeted
by
a
buckskin
clad
figure
who,
if
I
hadn't
known
better,
would
have
thought
it
was
Jim
Bridger
himself.
We
grabbed
our
audio
devices
and
set
out
on
a
journey
of
discovery.
It
was
amazing
how
the
moment
we
stepped
off
the
escalator
and
entered
the
linear
exhibit,
we
were
fully
immersed
in
an
interpretive
journey
through
the
development
of
the
American
culture
itself.
Oblivious
to
the
buzz
of
traffic
on
the
interstate
below
our
feet
for
the
next
hour;
we
were
now
part
of
the
story.
I'm
40
and
my
kids
are
almost
all
under
a
decade
old,
but
it
was
amazing
how
the
self-guided
interpretation
and
lifelike
figures
made
you
feel
like
you
were
truly
immersed
in
the
history
of
the
Platte
River
and
the
characters
that
contributed
to
its
story.
If
you
pass
by
this
warehouse
of
history
without
stopping,
it
is
your
loss.
