Flavors were offensively unauthentic and staff indifferent. Pakoras we’re visibly burnt and dripping oil from the 3rd refry. Chicken tikka had fake orange color completely bland , dry inside. “Signature dish” chili paneer was the worst spice and flavor profile; I travel 120 nights a year for work globally and I Saffron took the pole position for worst chili paneer I’ve had so far. My guest was equally offended by the chicken. He actually told the server that the food quality wasn’t good and she said “uh uh okay”

The alcoholic beverages were excellent while the dishes were a bit too salty. I was happy to see a good amount of vegan options on the menu. The service was decent for dinner time. I recommend making a reservation for a better dining experience.

Chicken biryani was great. Mango lassi could have been a few degrees cooler. The mangorita was pretty good. Would definitely recommend. Would be great if they had a south location.

The inside was nice & lights through the window looked so romantic 😌🙌🏼 I loved the vibe when I was visiting. Waiting was a little long but it was worth it! All the food we ordered were VERY DELICIOUS..!! We became huge fans! We’ll absolutely come back!🤗

First time trying Saffron. Food was pretty decent. Ordered bunch of stuff for pickup. Tandoori chicken tasted a bit funny. Unfortunately the portion size for Mixed grill was disappointing. It just had 6 pieces and only 1 piece of Seekh kabab! I mean come on you are paying 16$ for a platter only to receive 1 Seekh kabab which had to be shared by 3 people while the rest was assorted chicken kababs which were okay. The Chicken Jalfrezi was good. The food is fine but the portion size can be improved on.

Many of the dishes served at the buffet are MUCH too salty. This was rather disappointing since both my mother and sister have said the food is wonderful during non-buffet hours. I am willing to give it another try during non-buffet hours. But please lessen the amount of salt in the buffet items.

Food was very good, some of the best mint chutney I have ever had, the pork was a little dry but crisp and char on everything was great! Service a little slow at first but finished strong. Must try if in Kalamazoo for Indian cuisine.

I ordered Tandori mix grill and it literally came with six pieces of meat that costs $17. I thought $17 will give me more than just those 6 pieces

Went at 7:30 and waited 20 minutes to get an overcooked appetizer. Waited till around 8:30 and then grabbed the attention of the bartender as it seemed our server with the lip piercing had left or given up on our table. He came back at the end as the place was closing to give us the bill. Poor food and even worse service, sad to see a good place go so far down hill.

We come here a lot for dinner. I recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala with white rice! It's always amazing. Portions are large, I always take about half home. The cheese naans are delicious! The staff is always friendly and one time we lost our keys they were so helpful.

It is EXTREMELY spicy but, if you're willing to risk it, their lamb vindaloo is the absolute best I have ever tasted. I get it every time and it makes me cry like a baby... the fact something so delicious actually exists and yeah, from the spice! Defines what a curry dish is supposed to taste like but I warn you, you will either love it (like me) or it will ruin your evening (like my wife). When ordering it, the waitstaff has literally always immediately asked me, "Are you sure?" Internally I hear the voice of my conscience, which strangely sounds like Ron Swanson, saying "I know what I'm about son."

Anything in their creamy coconut sauce is *phenomenal*! Be sure to get the full size of Saffron rice to go with it. 4 stars due to loudness and their unique serving design. (All the servers serve all of the tables, so one person gets your drinks, another your appetizer, yet another your dinner order, etc... We were missed for quite a while due to it one of the times we went in.) Overall, highly recommend! 🤤

Super sweet. Like half a bag of granulated white sugar sweet and we had 3 entrees. Zero heat. This used to be the place to go…but that was 10 years ago. Super greasy too! Like…dark reddish orange deep puddles of oil on everything. Very disappointed :(

This place was terrific. Staff was very kind and the food was amazing. Chicken tikka Masala was the best ever had. Recommend without hesitation.

This was some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten. The only thing I think needs to change is the group servers--they forgot our drinks. I don't know how they manage to have seven different people check on one table during the meal. Not enough to keep me from coming back.

Not only was Saffron my introduction to Indian cuisine, but it's been my favorite ever since. The lunch buffet is a great deal and the dishes available on it change daily. Their palak paneer is phenomenal and the meatballs are really good if you can eat meat. Their spiced tea is also a favorite of mine, and I've never seen a raita as good as theirs.

Hands down one of our favorite restaurants in Kalamazoo! We don't frequent as much as we did when they had the lunch buffet, but still is great!

  • 3/5 Shanmukh S. 7 months ago on Google
Amazing interior and service. The food was hit or miss for us. The lassi and crispy aloo chaat was good enough. Paneer Chilli was disappointing. There was hardly any paneer with lots of gravy. Also found a onion peel inside the paneer chili. Naan was inconsistent in thickness. Quite thick for our liking and some parts were not even cooked well.

Ordered take out and the best thing from my meal was the naan. After trying lots of authentic Indian food from the west side, my partner and I have been on the hunt for something good in this area. Overall the meal was quite disappointing. I love malai kofta and regularly get it when we go to an Indian restaurant. But the malai kofta here was extremely oily and the kofta itself tasted like bread rather than paneer. The dish didn’t taste like a traditional malai kofta and made my stomach a bit upset. It was also odd that the curry didn’t come with a side of rice, it was an additional charge. The masala chai was also watered down and not as flavorful as I was hoping. My partner ordered chicken biryani and it tasted very plain and nothing like biryani considering how much flavor and spices are added to this dish. Overall a sad experience for a high price. The dishes might be appetizing for those that haven’t had Indian food before (there’s not many places to try it here) but for those that regularly eat authentic Indian food, this probably isn’t a place for you.

Food was absolutely delicious. The shrimp vindaloo is very good and spicy just the way I like it. I recommend the hussaini chicken & the pakoras as well, they were really tasty. The staff were very kind, I enjoyed my experience here. Would definitely recommend this place & I will be back.

Delicious food and fair prices. I've been here many times and loved it every time. Everything I've tried has been amazing. You know it's good because there's always plenty of Indian people there. There is a whole page as big as the meat page that is completely vegetarian. I'm not vegetarian but I often get those options as they are delicious .

You pay a lot for average Indian food and to be overwhelmed by an oversized wait staff. The food is mild, and not super authentic. Great if you are looking for your first Indian experience, but not good if you are looking for something more authentic.

Good amount of vegan options! Prices are pretty standard for Indian Cuisine. A tad on the salty side. I was pleased that the spice level is quite low. Very flavorful!

This place is amazing. This was our first time here, but it was definitely not our last. I had the Robust Chicken Curry, and it was perfect. The staff was very helpful and quick. We even had the owner stop by our table and chat. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we cannot wait to return.

One of the best food experiences I’ve had in a long time. Great service by the staff. Food was also phenomenal!! I love trying new cuisines so I made sure to order things I’ve never had before. It’s all authentic Indian cuisine with incredibly rich flavors. You will not be disappointed! If you’re not used to trying international foods, keep an open mind and ask the wait staff for suggestions! Our waiter/servers, Steven and Zoom, were super helpful.

One of my favorite Indian restaurants. The food is usually quite good, and the staff very friendly. I especially enjoy their lunchtime buffets which are a great value.

Great to support a local business that provides a taste of India right in my backyard. I enjoyed the rice, and I thought the vegetable curry and paneer were delicious. The non-could have been a little better, but I did enjoy the location, and buffet setup. It was great to have multiple plates

We enjoyed the authentic Indian dishes. I ordered the Hurly- Burly Lamb Chili Fried Curry, it was not very hot but enjoyable nonetheless. My wife ordered the Gourmet Lamb Biryani which was mild (as requested). She thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was excellent.

I lived in Kalamazoo from 2015 to 2019 and visited Saffron ~5 times. I've not had better Indian food in the four years since then (Metro Detroit and Boston). Folks from other US cities with large Indian-American populations are usually skeptical when I say this, but I genuinely believe Saffron has some of the best Indian food in the country, or at least in the Great Lakes region. I'm a European mutt, so I can't speak to authenticity, but the food is so yummy I wouldn't think much on it either way.

  • 5/5 Mike S. 1 year ago on Google
Safferon is without question one of the best restaurants on the west side if the state. Hard to pinpoint anything specific from their menu but know whatever the choice you will not be disappointed. NOW the only critique they might be a little overpriced because it is so hard to settle on a single dish and you will probably spend more than you want :)

  • 5/5 Jessie P. 1 year ago on Google
The experience was soooo good! It was our first time here and we loved it. Not only is the food incredible but they have a wonderful staff! Eli was our waiter tonight and he was incredibly passionate about the menu. His eyes lit up when asked about his favorites. The staff is the best service staff I’ve had in Kalamazoo. What a great place!

  • 5/5 Nick C. 4 years ago on Google
Been here a few times and absolutely love it. Definitely one of the better options for Indian food in Kalamazoo. If you don't know if you'll like the food, the daily all you can eat buffet is 11-2 for $13. It'll definitely have you coming back to stuff yourself some more.

Covid has this place doing take out only and only lunch and dinner hours. We ordered online upon them opening and were told our food would be ready in 45 minutes. That 45 minutes turned into an hour and a half wait because they were backlogged. We trekked home a bit peeved and definitely hangry. My husband lovingly but seriously joked that the food better be worth the wait. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait and more. We got the chickpea curry along with the lentil curry. We also ordered the vegetarian appetizer sampler. Full of flavor, and so so delicious. It was a bit oily, but still it blew our tastebuds through the roof.

Chicken tikka masala, very spicy, rice and garlic Naan is perfect dinner for me. Saffron is delicious, period. They are fast in the to go orders. Another good stop for dinner when in Kalamazoo.

If this is the best Indian cuisine in Kalamazoo, then there might as well not be any Indian cuisine at all. I ordered Tandoori Mixed Grill for $16.00 and got 5 pieces of meat a child could eat in 2 bites each. Weird measurement, I know, but I didn't take a picture because it was a special occasion so I just shut up and ate it. 2 of the pieces were so charred as to be only 3/4 edible and if those are the Malai Kebab that specifically mention being charred on purpose, then they failed at the "boneless" part of their description miserably. The Seekh Kebab (identified because it is described as "flute" shaped but looks more like a literal piece of feces) had close to no flavor along with the two other small pieces of meat. If it weren't for the date tamarind (a sauce provided) the meal would have been a complete waste. The grilled fruits and vegetables were swimming in oil and not at all grilled, generally flavorless. As for my wife's order, Chicken Tikka Masala, the flavor was alright but in the 10 minutes we sat eating we watched a pool of grease form at one end of the dish that put us off eating the rest of it. The garlic naan bread costs close to double an equivalent amount bought from a grocery store, and was inferior in every possible way: It was burned on the bottom, rubbery throughout, thin, and greasy. The saffron rice had whole cloves left in it which meant picking through the rice before eating any since biting an unexpected clove in a spoonful of rice is downright awful. We've eaten at Saffron a few times with friends and family, always with disappointing results but this last meal will be the one we remember for why we don't eat there any more.

Make sure to let them know you want less salt in your food. Our dishes were soooo salty we had to send them back. The manager was kind enough to oblige! Portion size was small, but it was tasty after the remake. Booth where sat had lot of mosquitoes biting. So don't wearshorts. Nice staff. Good presentation.

What a GREAT taste, and I don't say that lightly. Being south asian, most restaurants have TOO much oil, or too much salt, or TOO spicy to a point where you can't even taste what you're eating. This was amazing, and WELL priced - esp for a buffet!! Ate two whole plates. Masala chai could have more masala, but other than that, the establishment is clean, friendly, and food is GREATTTT!!!!!
