The food was very good but not awesome. We got the judge plate, and the best meat was the ribs. Loved the bread and green beans, tho. The sides were awesome 👌. They have their own sauces that are very good.

City Barbeque is one of my go-to lunch places while visiting Grand Rapids. I like BBQ, and City has some really good food. I got the 1/2 chicken with Mac and cheese and used the fire BBQ sauce. The Chicken was really good and the BBQ sauce had just the right amount of heat. I will tell you if you get the 1/2 chicken, bring stretchy pants it is more chicken than ANY other BBQ places gives you, and it was only $12.99. The rest of the portions were about average, but you get a lot of chicken. I had to take 1/2 home with me. Mac and Cheese was good as well. In South Bend, I like Mission BBQ. In GR, I like City BBQ, and if you're in Lansing, you must try Meat BBQ.

Delicious barbecue! Got the pulled pork and brisket (brisket was very flavorful but a tiny bit dry). All very good. Fun sauces and sides like coleslaw, Mac n cheese, collard greens, baked beans, corn bread, etc. home made peach cobbler. Bummer that sometimes they run out of what you want, but I suppose that’s because it’s popular? Hmm. Maybe they could fix that. Didn’t have the peach cobbler my husband was looking forward to but they subbed other items for us. Friendly staff. Give samples of brisket and turkey. We will be back!

Got these as an UberEats order and they were DELICIOUS. As long as it tastes good, I don't care what it looks like. Juicy chicken sandwich and amazing Mac and cheese. Will absolutely eat again here.

My husband and I took our daughter to City Barbeque for her birthday. What an amazing restaurant!! The food is amazing. Very flavorful. The staff was very helpful and polite. I got the pulled pork and polish sausage with baked beans and green beans. My husband got the pulled pork and brisket. Our daughter got some sides. Our meats were very juicy and not to spicy. We got A LOT of meat too. More than I thought we would get. The baked beans were very good and semi-thick. Just like I like them. We took a box of leftovers home. 😋 We picked the original sauce. Next time I will try the spicy sauce. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. Staff was cleaning tables as people left. Thank you for a great experience and great food. Thank you for working while short staffed. You are amazing. I am so glad I found your restaurant. We will definitely be going back.

We have tried City Barbeque twice now and both visits resulted in full bellies and happy customers. The city sampler is a great value for two people and every bit of food is delicious. The only critique I have is that the wait for food can be pretty long when it's busy with all the takeout orders being filled at the same time. Our tray sat with the meat on it for a good 10 minutes before the rest was ready, so only some of our food was warm. However the food is worth the wait anyway.

The meat was amazing which is why you'd go to a smokehouse. But I think their sides were pretty plain and not as flavorful as I would have liked. Cornbread a little too dry and crumbly, Mac n cheese noodles overcooked and pretty flavorless, and potato salad and coleslaw just lacking much flavor. I would still definitely go back for the meat though that is definitely worth it and maybe I'd try other sides. The inside was really nice looking and they did have a ton of food options as well.

We were in town this evening for a sporting event, and decided to try City BBQ. The food was really delicious. My kids loved it. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Recommend to all. (PS banana pudding is amazing).

Great food, nice establishment. I got the sampler plate with smoked turkey, brisket, sausage, pulled pork and 2 sides...i got the collard greens with pork and the baked beans with brisket. Texas toast too. $27 with a drink. Sides were a bit salty, hence the 4 stars, but very good overall. Will go again

Let me start by saying I love good barbecue. I love brisket, it is one of my absolute favorites. The girl who took my order seemed pleasant enough but, she didn't ask if I'd been there before, she didn't ask me anything or try to engage at all. "What can i get you? " and done. She wasn't rude, but nothing to give great service. There were nearly no people in the restaurant. One other guy. I ordered a brisket sandwich, Mac and cheese, and banana pudding. The brisket was so tough, it had no smoke line, it was a huge letdown. The pitmaster should be ashamed. The Mac and cheese was like noodles and cheese-whiz. The best thing I ate was the banana pudding, and the whipped topping on that, made it feel like my teeth put on a sweater. The smoke smell lured me in, and the food let me down. I had no plans on reviewing when I walked in, I hadn't eaten all day, and don't think that i didn't scarf down the food. Honestly the review was because I left disappointed that I let the one meal of the day I had time to eat, be City Barbecue.

Huge portions! Especially the Judges Platter. We got two orders for four people and we are enjoying the leftovers at home. The meat was simply awesome. I've had lots of BBQ down in the south and out west and this rivals any BBQ restaurant in Kansas City or Birmingham. Not too smoky, seasoned just right, not dry, very enjoyable to eat. All of the sides were right on. Honestly, I looked for something to be a little less than 100%, but I couldn't find it. The staff was awesome too. Maria was friendly and wonderful to us! Definitely will be back. Maybe not super often as it is a bit pricey, but quality like this does not come cheap. Nor would anyone want it to.

I came here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised of how good the food was. Pictured is the City Barbecue platter with baked beans and the potato salad as the sides. My spouse also got a slice of cornbread which was quite delicious. The potato salad was almost like mashed potatoes in consistency with chunks of potato in it. They have an assortment of different barbecue sauces ranging from sweet, spicy, mustard-based, and they were all delicious. I'm usually not one to eat the piece of bread that is always included in bbq platters, but this texas toast was buttered, soft, but lightly toasted on the outside; I found myself eating and loving it! There aren't many barbecue places in West Michigan but I would return in the future if I'm in search for a quick fix for some barbecue.

Phenomenal BBQ! My #1 BBQ spot is in Nashville, but this just moved into my top 3. Loved the brisket and pulled pork the most. The baked beans with brisket 🤌 the Mac and cheese was very good. Above average cornbread. High in flavor everything. Love most of their sauces too, brush fire FTW if you like spicy sauces. 9.25/10 overall.

First time eating in at City Barbecue and it was great! Staff moves fast and is friendly. Everyone had hair covered and gloves on. Food came hot and fast once we ordered. Spice intolerant beware, after all this is a barbecue joint and their dry rub packs a punch! We got everything pictured plus 2 drinks for $45, which is a little pricey to me but still completely reasonable nowadays.

Ordered the judges sampler and fried pickles. None of the meat had flavor unless dipped in sauce. The ribs were dinky and barely had meat on them. The brisket was chewy. The Mac n cheese is flavorless and mushy. Green beans were all right. Everything including the meat lacked salt and seasonings. The only thing that had salt were the pickles and they were too salty and soggy to eat. The quality in food has definitely went in the gutter. Used to love this place. Won’t go back and waste money now.

We ordered the hot half Turkey holiday meal, and it was fantastic! The turkey is one of the best I’ve ever had - flavorful, tender, juicy, and still hot when served for dinner. We ordered the smashed potatoes and green beans as sides, and they were great as well. The order was ready for pick up at the scheduled time, and it made our holiday meal easier and tastier!

Food was really good. Some of the best barbecue I've had from a restaurant. The service was phenomenal. They were super busy and handled it professionally. Gave us free items for the wait as well.

I took my mom here for mother's day, and I'm sorry I did honestly. The service was good, but none of the food was what I'd call good. I ordered cheese fries with bacon and mac and cheese. The bacon on the fries was very clearly overcooked and was tough to chew. The fries and cheese were passable. The mac and cheese really wasn't much better. My mom ordered 3 rib bones, and didn't like any of the sauces. She didn't care for the hush puppies. Even the chocolate cake we bought wasn't what I'd consider great. All in all, I won't eat here again. The only good part of the experience was the service was friendly, but when you don't have good food that doesn't mean much.

The food was ok. It wasn't very flavorful but I am also use to southern BBQ. Memphis bbq is hard to compete with. They did have sweet tea and peach Nehi so that was a nice suprise.

For a chain, this is decent BBQ. Sauces are pretty good. One thing they excel at is their smoked turkey. It's never dried out and it's full of flavor. I would prefer a little more seasoning, but again, it's not bad (and when it comes to BBQ chains, there are more bad than good). If you live in a barren land in terms of BBQ (I'm in the Great White North, but from Georgia originally), this can be an oasis for you to get a quick, if not perfect, fix.

Phenomenal food. TLDR: all the food was amazing, highly recommend. I ordered the Judge with peach covler to go, knowing I would only eat 1/3 of it but I wanted to taste everything. This is the first place they doesn't have dry smoked chicken, it was juicy and bursting with smokey flavor. The brisket was tender and had a beautiful crust. I was shocked at how good the hush puppies are, they were moist inside with a perfect crunchy deep fried exterior. They only possible negative I can think of is that the ribs were a little thin so no a lot of meat on them, but... the ribs tasted so savory with the already cooked on bbq sauce, I didn't even need to add any extra.

Ordered the motherload for mothers day, got home and were missing the half slab of ribs and the banana pudding, I should've check the bag of course but we had a lot of items, called the restaurant twice both times I wait 5 mins to get no response. Rest of the food was good though.
