The most spectacular panoramic views of Rio de Janiero with a fully 360 degree aspect. The highlight of any visit to Rio must be to visit this iconic destination and experience the splendour first hand. A great vibe is created by all the staff and visitors are always welcome with a pleasant smile and genuine Brazilian hospitality

This should be a bigger thing Rio advertise to tourist. The views are amazing at every point. Even if you are afraid of heights I would still recommend going. Tickets are fairly priced and they have plenty of shops at the top.

I tried purchasing online tickets but wasn't sure if I needed to print them. Arrived without tickets but it was fast, well staffed, friendly and English speaking team was very helpful. The cable car experience is breathtaking, amazing views. Lots of local treats, drinks, souvenirs for sale at the top with reasonable prices. Truly loved it, cant wait to do it again with my family one day.

Excellent experience going on the cable car, although the weather wasn't great, it was a very worthwhile event whilst in Rio. Organised through the hotel, tour group collected us from our hotel, sorted out tickets for the use and no waiting. Highly recommended 👌

The Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro offers an incredible experience that should not be missed! While the regular ticket costs R$180, I highly recommend investing in the R$320 Fast Ticket, as the waiting times in line can be demanding. The breathtaking view from the top of Sugar Loaf, encompassing the panoramic vista of Rio de Janeiro and Copacabana Beach, justifies every moment of anticipation. This unique landscape combines absolute natural beauty with the culturally rich history of the area, providing visitors with an unforgettable experience. Visit Sugar Loaf and immerse yourself in the magic of the view that will undoubtedly captivate you! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A must go in Rio de Janeiro. With student discount the price is ok and the view is great! We were during the week there and the overall experience was very good: the place is organized, with nice staff, no waiting time and an amazing view. You need to take the cable car two times as the second time will take you to the sugar loaf, where you will get to make the best pictures. When you enter, they insist you to take a picture with your group with the paper sugar loaf background (which is VERY ANNOYING!). If I would go again, I would just not take it! But if you take it and in the end want to buy the pictures, they go down with the prices until R$15 per picture, maybe even cheaper if you buy more than one.

Beautiful scenery and got very interesting history information of thr city of Rio. Also highly recommended to take a 15mins hike down to tickets office, instead of the cable car Easy downhill trail, where you can enjoy the beautiful nature and maybe some little habitats if you are lucky :)

Better than Statue of Christ - better picture opportunities, more technology used for tickets, wifi at all 3 points (station, and both mountains), and plenty of shade, food/drinks/snacks/seating after the first mountain. I am only deducting 1 star because we had to scan our QR codes many times and it seemed rushed and disorganized at times. Trip was on a Saturday at 10:00am. Very busy with tourists

The view from above the sugar loaf and the Urca mountain is simply the most beautiful sight I have ever had in my life. It is by far the most beautiful city I have visited. The place also has a lot of bars and restaurants that you can enjoy at the same time the monkeys are playing on the trees around you living their best life. A life-changing experience. Extremely recommended.

SUGAR LOAF and the CABLE CAR = these are the great opportunity to experience this beautiful place which is so Popular in the whole world. So far one of the Landmarks addressing to Brazil Country. The way up to the top is by means of a cable Car that works up and down to bring the visitors to the top or going down. In the first level when we arrived there is a Museum that explains how this Cable car mechanism works how it was made in the early years and how secure it is made for the safety of the visitors. There souvenir shops and bakery also restaurants. Then there is also an Helicopter for Hire to have access to the whole area and to take pictures through sky views. From the second level there is another Cable that brought us to the topmost part. Here we were able to table the most view of the City. The very good weather condition at the top persuaded us to stay longer so we were able to taste some Pastries Native to Brazilian Cuisines while enjoying the vast Horizon and the wonderful Panorama. It is really worth and not to miss this in your travel list.

There's 2 cable cars to get through, each lasting 5 mins once you're on. 2 going up, 2 going down. Both stations have lots of facilities with shops, cafes - and several toilets! Needless to say the views are great. If you're aiming for sunset, remember the surrounding mountains are high and you can spend lots of time in cafes so I'd recommend going earlier than arriving at the sunset time (probably less busy too) and wait for the sunset.

One of the best experiences in Rio! They have super cool shops, coffee, food, snacks, cute lil wild monkeys, and more! Insane views to see airplanes and things fly by.. I could spend a whole day up there just watching. I recommend coming with some time to relax and enjoy!

Missed the sunset as we arrived a bit late but what a great place to see some glorious views of Rio! The boarding of the cable car was fast and efficient and there are a lot of restaurants and shops on the mountain to choose from.

It was a bit expensive but totally worth it. The views on a good day are stunning. It's got restaurants, shops and everything you need to make it worth it. Being able to see Río from this angle is a bucket list must.

Must see when you're in the area. Worth the cost and the wait. Although I highly recommend the fast pass; that extra R$100 saved us more than an hour waiting to go up and to get back down. There is a decent restaurant up top to sit, eat and grab a drink. It's more pricey than your average place, and it doesn't have AC but most of the tables have adequate shade.

It is recommended to book your tickets early or take a tour guide who manages everything. Place it good, you can get good view of Rio from the top.

  • 5/5 Cam H. 2 months ago on Google • 46 reviews New
Fun experience, we did the fast pass and it probably saved us about an hour in lines totally as it lets you skip each one (4 total). Great views from the top, food and drink up there. Preferred the views here over the ones from Christ.

Great place to visit to see the entire city. It is very high up if afraid if heights! Recommend a guide to get to the front of the line. We had Cashmere and Rodrigo and they were great!

Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro is a must-visit destination offering breathtaking views and an iconic cable car ride. Ascending to the top provides panoramic views of the city, coastline, and surrounding mountains. The summit offers a 360-degree view that is truly mesmerizing. Amenities such as restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops enhance the visit. Sugarloaf Mountain is a must-see attraction, combining natural beauty, a thrilling cable car ride, and picturesque views. Don't miss the opportunity to create lasting memories at this iconic landmark!

There is a cable car where you can climb a mountain with a panoramic view of Rio. The facilities are very clean and convenient. You must visit this place when you visit Rio. The view from the top is very wide, beautiful, and emotional. The cost of using four round-trip cable cars is Rs160. You can save money if you walk there.

I rarely enjoy tourist attractions but this was definitively one of the best I’ver ever paid for. I would 100% recommend doing it on a sunny day and I’m also thinking about doing AGAIN for sunset so stay tuned for more pictures.

Besides the Cristo statue, the cable car to the Sugarloaf mountain is an absolute must-see in Rio de Janeiro. The famous scene from James Bond / Moonraker will come to your mind! Stunning view from the top, you can see Copacabana and Ipanema beach, the Cristo statue, the airport and many other spots of Rio de Janeiro. Enjoy a Caipirinha at the mountain top bar!

  • 5/5 Lewis M. 6 months ago on Google
Very organised system. Buy tickets online in advance or pay on the day. I paid on the day due to iffy weather over the previous few days. I was in the cable car within 30 minutes which I found acceptable. Lovely ride up and down to the two peaks, Urca and Sugar Loaf. Seniors and other discount customers get 50% off so October 2023 it's 160 reals full price, 80 with reductions. Foreigners too by the way. Must show photo ID for date of birth. Copies accepted. I cannot stress enough - give yourself plenty of time to visit Sugar Loaf. Even if you buy your ticket in advance you'll probably have to queue for the cable cars so multiply that by 4 as there are 2 up and obviously 2 back down. Places to eat, drink, buy souvenirs, WCs at both peaks. Look out for the little monkeys but PLEASE don't bother them. Enjoy your visit!

Some of the pictures were hard to believe so I found myself recording just to prove it to my friends 🤣 We were one of the last rides up and it was still pretty packed which was surprising. If we were an hour earlier I can imagine a spectacular sunset considering we got great pics at the tail end of it. Highly recommend this.

It was a great experience, totally unforgettable. The views are so impressive. The cable car is so worth visiting. There are nice touristy areas on the top with restaurants and shops as well.

  • 5/5 Jags K. 1 year ago on Google
Try getting the tickets online before you get there. The lines for getting tickets can take a long time. If you can walk up the trails to the first mountain, you should do that. It is a beautiful path, well marked and worth every step.

We visited this place when we visited Rio de Janeiro in november 2022. A very good place for serene beauty from the top of Sugarloaf mountain. The quality of the gondola cars are very good and the schedule is very frequent (one in 20 minutes). The ticket cost was around 150 BRL per person. A must visit if you are visiting Rio de Janeiro for the first time. Loved it❤️❤️

it was okay, there is nothing much to offer at the top. you get pretty view of Rio from the top and i don't see anything special sugar loaf has to offer. this is kind of place you will come once and you will never come back to see again. cable car move rather fast so you don't have much time to take picture during cable car ride.

Excellent views, best during sunset. They are some bars and shops on the first and second mountain. Cost 120 adults including return. Tickets can easily be bought at the foot of the cable car entrance. Best buy in person as there are fake website albeit unsecured. Bring your wn bottled water up there. There is plenty od picnic seats alongside a shaded walk walk. Be careful with your children as they are snakes there.

The Sugarloaf Cable Car is a cableway in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Moving between Praia Vermelha and the Sugarloaf Mountain, it stops at Morro da Urca (at 722 feet (220 m)) on its way up and down, and reaches the summit of the 1,299-foot (396 m) mountain. The cableway was envisioned by the engineer Augusto Ferreira Ramos in 1908 who sought support from well-known figures of Rio's high society to promote its construction. Opened in 1912,it was only the third cableway to be built in the world. In 1972 the cars were updated, growing from a capacity of 22 to 75, and in 1979 it featured in an action scene for the James Bond film Moonraker. Today it is used by approximately 2,500 visitors every day. The cable cars run every 30 minutes, between 8 am and 10 pm. The development of technical and engineering achievement of the National Exhibition in Commemoration of the First Centenary of the Opening of the Ports of Brazil to the International Trade in 1908 motivated engineer Augusto Ramos to imagine a cable car system in Rio de Janeiro. Ramos had to resort to well-known personages of Rio's high society. These included Eduardo Guinles and Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya, who were powerful figures with a range of developmental interests in the city,to promote the idea of an electric cable system. When the cable car was built, there were only two others in the world: the chairlift at Mount Ulia, in Spain, with a length of 280 metres (920 ft), built in 1907,and the lift at Wetterhorn, in Switzerland, with a length of 560 metres (1,840 ft), built in 1908. The Sugarloaf Cable Car was opened on 27 October 1912.Its Portuguese-language name comes from the similarities between the cablecars, and the former trams in town. Envisioned by Augusto Ramos, it is managed by Companhia Caminho Aéreo Pão de Açúcar, a company created by Ramos. The first cable cars were coated wood and were used for 60 years. Originally, the cable car stopped at Urca. In 1951, an accident occurred in which one of the two cables snapped, leaving 22 people dangling on one cable. One mechanic aboard, Augusto Goncales, climbed out and slithered down to Urca station and helped to build an emergency car to go back up and rescue the other passengers, 12 women and girls, 6 men and 3 children, in an event which took about 10 hours.President Vargas praised Goncales as the "Hero of the Day".In October 1972, a second cable was added, as well as new cabins, which expanded its capacity from 22 to 75;eventually, it was reduced to 65 to increase comfort. The cable car was the setting for the 1979 James Bond film Moonraker in which British secret agent James Bond (played by actor Roger Moore) battles with his nemesis Jaws (Richard Kiel) in the middle of the tramway, which eventually results in a tramcar with Jaws in it crashing into the ground station and smashing through the wall, although he miraculously survives. During the filming, the stuntman Richard Graydon slipped and narrowly avoided falling to his death. For the scene in which Jaws bites into the steel tramway cable with his teeth, the cable was actually made of liquorice, although Richard Kiel was still required to use his steel dentures. Also in 1979, Las Vegas-based Steven McPeak walked the tightrope on the steel cable, the highest stretch of the cable car route, a feat which entered him into the Guinness Book of World Records. On 18 January 1983, the route was expanded to Sugarloaf Mountain. In 2007, Falko Traber walked along the rope of the cable railway. On the centenary of the cableway in 2012, Google honored it with a doodle, viewable in Brazil. This cable car also appears in a few video games as well. For instance, it appears off in the distance in the Wii version of Need for Speed: Nitro, in one part of the Santa Teresa racing course in Rio de Jainero.
