I
originally
had
a
very
positive
view
of
Midwest
Center
for
Women’s
Health
and
Dr.
Clear
until
I
began
following
with
the
Evanston
clinic
during
the
pregnancy.
For
issues
outside
of
pregnancy
,
I
greatly
appreciated
Dr.
Clear’s
bedside
manner
.
She
was
very
kind
and
responsive
and
seems
to
genuinely
care
about
her
patients
which
is
hard
to
find
in
an
obgyn.
However,
at
29
weeks
of
pregnancy,
I
decided
to
seek
care
elsewhere.
The
reason
why
was
because
after
learning
my
baby
was
frank
breech
at
my
29
week
ultrasound,
I
asked
the
physician
about
vaginal
breech
birth.
A
vaginal
breech
birth
was
important
to
me
because
my
husband
and
I
wanted
to
have
a
large
family
and
Caesarian
section
is
associated
with
increased
risk
of
placental
abnormalities
in
subsequent
pregnancies
and
also
an
increased
risk
of
severe
maternal
morbidity
(SMM).
Furthermore,
breech
vaginal
birth
is
actually
safely
performed
in
many
countries
and
is
not
associated
with
a
huge
increase
in
perinatal
mortality
(according
to
RCOG
perinatal
mortality
for
a
vaginal
cephalic
birth
is
1/1000
where
perinatal
mortality
is
2/1000
for
a
vaginal
breech
birth).
When
I
discussed
my
concerns
and
findings
with
Dr.
Clear,
she
shared
outdated
information
about
vaginal
breech
birth
based
on
the
findings
of
the
Term
Breech
Trial
.
Sadly
many
obstetricians
fail
to
recognize
the
flaws
in
this
trial
and
neglect
to
look
at
newer
research
demonstrating
that
if
a
provider
is
trained
in
vaginal
breech
birth,
it
can
be
done
safely
and
at
less
risk
to
the
mother.
When
I
asked
her
for
a
referral
to
a
provider
who
can
perform
vaginal
breech
birth
after
expressing
my
concerns
based
on
the
current
research,
she
didn’t
seem
supportive
and
simply
said
“I
am
sorry
for
ruining
your
birth
plan.”
Her
comment
was
very
frustrating
because
this
wasn’t
about
a
birth
plan
preference,
this
was
about
ensuring
I
got
evidenced-based
care
and
could
hopefully
avoid
increased
health
risks
in
subsequent
pregnancies
given
that
my
husband
and
I
wanted
a
large
family.
In
additional
before
we
left,
my
husband
asked
about
the
baby’s
growth
and
if
he
was
growing
well.
The
doctor
was
quick
to
point
out
the
baby’s
head
was
in
the
90th
percentile
and
pointed
out
I
was
petite
as
if
to
suggest
that
the
baby
wouldn’t
fit
out
of
me
anyway
so
I
should
just
accept
the
cesarean
section
(the
baby
actually
ended
up
being
a
very
normal
3000g
and
fit
perfectly
through
my
pelvis
but
her
comment
made
me
constantly
question
my
body’s
ability
to
birth
throughout
my
pregnancy
and
made
me
very
anxious)
.
I
ended
up
contacting
an
organization
called
Breech
Without
Borders
which
educates
providers
about
breech
vaginal
birth
and
provides
training.
They
are
a
reputable
organization
and
have
even
just
performed
training
for
OB
residents
at
Northwestern
Memorial
Hospital.
I
learned
that
the
organization
had
trained
all
CNMs,
OBs,
and
OB
residents
at
Aurora
Sinai
Hospital
in
Milwaukee,
WI.
I
transferred
my
care
there
and
ultimately
had
an
uncomplicated
vaginal
breech
birth
at
38
weeks.
My
baby
was
born
healthy
with
a
nearly
perfect
Apgar
score
and
I
was
so
grateful
I
avoided
a
cesarean
section
.
Also
he
fit
just
perfectly
out
of
my
pelvis
and
I
was
not
at
all
“too
petite”
for
him
to
get
out
safely.
Honestly
if
you
want
evidenced
based
and
holistic
care
,
I
recommend
going
to
the
midwife
group
at
Aurora
Sinai
in
Milwaukee
.
If
you
have
to
stay
in
Chicago
,
please
advocate
for
yourself.
So
many
OBs
are
not
up
to
date
on
current
research
and
neglect
to
provide
women
with
true
informed
consent
.
Because
of
this
,
so
many
women
have
unneeded
interventions
and
even
unnecessary
cesarean
sections
.
