That was the poorest health service I’ve ever experienced. We arrived at A&E that my partner was literally folded in two by the pain We were not even admitted into the waiting room because of their Covid policy and told to wait outside (in the cold) and book a phone call with a nurse that would have called us within 30mins to tell us whether we were in the right place or not! 1h later we were still waiting outside..

My disabled sister was admitted on 22/11/22 for a suspected heart attack at 1 30pm . Finally over 11 hours later they found her a bed in a ward . As we had her nightwear we asked the nurse if we could change her so she would be more comfortable but was assured that they would do that . However imagine my shock when we went back at 9am on the 23/11/22 to find she had slept in her clothes . We have been waiting for over 7 hours now for the doctor to see her and hopefully discharge her . No wonder no beds are available if you have to wait this long for even a doctor .

Fantastic staff who gave excellent care to my sister following an accident. The nursing and admin staff on the ward could not be faulted for their genuinely friendly attitude to the patients and visitors. Thank you all.

Had to wait in the ambulance a while as did many other people But I was well looked after by the ambulance crew until I could be admitted to hospital. The hospital staff were absolutely amazing and saved my life. I would especially like to thank everyone on ward C5 for the care and compassion they gave me. Please do not run our NHS staff down they are overworked and underpaid !

During my recent stay in the QA I received first class/excellent diagnosis and treatment. The treatment by surgeons, doctors, nurses and all others was fantastic. Meals and refreshments also excellent. I have nothing but praise for all my experiences in hospital. A big thank you to everyone for looking after me so well.

Would like to thank the amazing staff at QA A&E who have been looking after my mum since last night. The ambulance staff were so good and although she didn’t want to go they were so patient and kind. Carrie and the other nurse today were brilliant. So caring and had the most professional but happy approach while dealing not just with my mum but the other patients too. They couldn’t do enough to help. Rob the doctor looking after mum was amazing too. Every staff member today made her feel at ease even the ones that took her for X-rays and CT scan. You guys are amazing and definitely don’t get the credit you deserve. Thank you all x

Compared to the care home which my dad lived at (for which I gave a 5 star review) the care my dad received at QA fell woefully short to the point of neglect. While there were individuals which appeared to do their best, the system and expertise that dad needed to meet his needs let him down. He went in with a urinary tract infection and caught covid while in there, but we did not find that out until two days later and even then via the care home, not the hospital. He was put in a covid ward where his health deteriorated rapidly, not because of covid as he was asymptomatic, but because of the care he received. Long story short, by the time he was transferred to a nursing home he was skin and bones, he was barely eating or drinking, had developed bed sores, could no longer walk without physical help and his dementia had got a lot worse. Until I was allowed in as a ‘critical carer’ trying to get information about dads status was very hard. When we did it was often inadequate and/or contradictory to what we had been told before. His notes were also, shall we say, inaccurate with statements that we had been contacted when we had not and that dad could walk 15m when he was discharged! This is not the first time I have had a bad experience of QA hospital but it has certainly been the worst. Not recommended.

A & e are absolutely shocking. My dad had to go in last week. Got there just before midnight and was seen at 06.30 even though it was very quiet. My dad has terminal cancer and was in agony and no one came to see if he was ok or needed pain relief, just left him sat in a chair in reception all night. No compassion at all from any of the nurses on shift.

If i could give this place 0 stars I would. This review is for the Maternity Ward the staff do not know how to speak to people there is a massive lack of communication and they don’t show any respect to you or tell you why things are being done ,my misses was admitted after asking for a check up for our babies care and since then she’s been in for days on end being told the same thing that a doctor would come to see her the wait time before anything happens is approximately 7 hours she can’t have any visitors only between 9-9 but that only applies for who they prefer ,i sense a great deal of racism as me and my partner are black and I was there after 12 pm in another ward and the doctors who were supposedly in charge came to the room in a very ignorant manner stating that they are in charge and no visitors are allowed even tho I was there from 6pm all the way to 12 Am waiting to find out when she would be going to the labour ward but they are acting as if I am a criminal because I was there with her all day .She is still currently there and is mentally stressed and depressed for a pregnant woman and no one is even checking on her .I-really hope and pray that me or no family member ever had to come back here because it is the absolute worst experience I have ever had with a hospital.

What a lovely hospital QA is. I visited my Nan yesterday, I live in North Hampshire so I had never visited before. But my experience was so positive, the hospital was so clean, the ward was clean, my Nan had a lovely room. The staff were so friendly and accommodating despite being busy. I am so impressed given the immense pressure on the NHS and it being the weekend. People are so quick to complain but I wanted to share my positive experience. Thank you for making it such a nice environment for patients and visitors.

I would like to thank the staff in D7 and A&E last night for looking after me. The ambulance staff were amazing. I had the biggest seizure I had last night and they arrived and dealt with me so efficiently. They were lovely. The Dr in A&E was also very efficient. Staff on D7 where I was a couple of days before in particular, George were amazing. Thank you. The only negative comment I would say is the cleanliness of A&E is poor….it’s not great but I understand they are busy but the triage rooms and toilets were filthy.

I had surgery yesterday on level E and I feel compelled to write a review about my experience; the staff there were absolutely amazing from Beth who admitted me right through to Noel who anaesthetised me, the surgeon who carried out my operation, the staff who looked after me in recovery and the discharge team. The level of quality care and compassion I received made me feel at ease, their presence and professionalism was outstanding. Thank you very much for looking after me. Very grateful.

At a location where parking is difficult at the best of times, some one has decided to build a massive new building on what was the North Carpark. It makes no sense to cause people, already stressed with their own ailments to be forced to seek out alternative parking and this includes those affected by the loss of disabled parking bays.

Our family is receiving first class service in order to facilitate a kidney transplant between family members. Very little waiting for tests and procedures and great staff. Also impressed that you only have to stop and look a bit lost and every passing staff member offers to help you! Seems a very efficient place and hats off to the renal unit.

An excellent hospital. Patients seen and treated in a very timely manner… A tricky delivery with my son was handled very well indeed and always felt extremely safe. After a family members surgery we were impressed with the cleanliness of the hospital and the attentiveness of the staff. Also impressed with the prompt and effective treatment. Thank you so much!

The staff I interacted with during my recent visit were absolutely amazing. So so supportive, caring and gentle. Kept me informed and spoke to me about what was going to happen in a way I understood everything. I can’t thank them enough.

On Sunday 6th August 2023 I was referred to A&E. All the staff were very kind, caring, helpful and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. I had an MRI scan, blood tests and X-rays. I was kept informed of results. I was transferred to the medical ward on Monday and once again a very good professional experience. I was discharged late on Tuesday afternoon and even the discharge team were amazing and caring. Thank you to all who work so hard, remain kind and caring all day/night.

Hard to decide how many stars to give. If for only on my last visit to the Q.A, then I might have given 3 however, the letter that arrived after my visit and the inability to get the hospital department in question to actually answer the phone, is what put it down to 1 star. The admin teams attached to whichever department they are in, do they ever proof read letters before they go out? Seriously doubt it, after the latest letter I received from this hospital, over 20 mistakes, 4 of them in the 1st paragraph. Everything from getting my age wrong, wrong medical information, wrong info about what I do for a living, who I share my home with. Seriously if they cannot put the correct information in letters to people after a consultation at the hospital, especially the right medical information, then they should not be working there.

Some years ago my Mum was admitted to QA with gall bladder problems, and with the exception of the brutal ambulance crew, she received wonderful and kind treatment which enabled her successful discharge within a few days. Yesterday it was my misfortune to need an outpatient visit to the CT Scanner Unit and the TIA clinic. In both cases the care, kindness, and attention I received was excellent and I would wholeheartedly thank and commend all the staff with whom I came into contact, not forgetting the friendly and obliging Pharmacy staff on my way out. Well done QA, proud to have you as my local hospital.

I have to say I was shocked at the level of treatment supplied on ward D2 pretty amazing even though full to overflowing. A particular thankyou for the efficient and caring attitude of Rowena and Rocky. A&E was it's usual packed out self, the wait time to see a doctor was 4 hours although maybe an advanced practitioner ( nurse with extra training ). Good game though...guess which uniform colour is for what occupation!! Everyone could learn a thing or 2 from these amazing nurses on D2. WELL DONE!!

Attended A&E after my husband fainted whilst on holiday. We were in and out really quickly and even offered a sandwich and hot drink which has never happened in any other hospital ever! The doctors, nurses and paramedics who bought us in were clearly rushed off their feet but they were really attentive, professional and we felt in very safe and capable hands. We'll done all, a real credit to our wonderful NHS.

I rang 111, the lady then booked me in for an appointment at A&E. When I arrived, I was seen to straight away. The 1st nurse who saw me was lovely and did a heart scan and blood test on my very efficiently. I then waited in the waiting area for about 10 minutes then saw a 2nd nurse who was equally as lovely and took my blood pressure. I was then taken to a second waiting area to wait to see a doctor. I was sat here for approximately 35 minutes, I was then seen by a very caring female doctor who looked through my results and worked out a future plan for me. I was extremely happy with all the doctors and nurses I was seen by. Also in the 35 minutes I was sat waiting to see a doctor, a women came round offering breakfast and also another for teas, coffees and biscuits. Overall I'm very pleased with my experience and thank them all for the work they did for me. 👏🏻

I bought my 18 yr old daughter to A&E as advised by my local A&E Hospital St Richards on 18.3.23. All nursing staff were wonderful, caring and kept us well informed through out our long wait. My daughter had an overnight stay in Delta 2. ENT ward and again all staff had a lovely bedside manner which made my daughter less anxious. Thank you all for looking after her!

I had a fall a couple of weeks ago (Fri May 26th) and went to A&E about 6pm with a suspected broken wrist. The Emergency Care Department staff were absolutely wonderful. Despite being very very busy and run off their feet,  everyone who looked after me - from reception to nurses to doctors and x-ray staff - all were absolutely fantastic.  A special shout out goes to nurses Kerry, Angie and Stacey. Although they were coming to the end of a very busy day, you wouldn't have known as each patient was treated in the same kind, caring, and professional way. They were a credit to our wonderful  NHS. Thank you to them and each and every one of their wonderful team. ............I’ve now been referred to the Fracture Clinic and I've met some more fantastic staff who also deserve a shout-out. Firstly, there's there's Jan from the Plaster Room who took my my call just as the department was closing one evening but stayed on to listen to my concerns about my back plaster and gave me lots of very much appreciated reassurance which totally alleviated my worries. Then when I went for my first Fracture Clinic appointment, I met Karen in the Plaster Room who was doing a great job dealing with an already very, very heavy workload of patients. I don't know how she did it, but Karen managed to keep her sense of humour and calm approach even though several of the patients were unnecessarily rude to her and her team because they'd had a wait. Karen was ably assisted by a very competent, encouraging and smiley Emma to replace my back plaster with a full cast. A HUGE thank you goes to all of them. As a patient, it's so reassuring to be looked after by such capable, professional and friendly staff.

Went to A&E today panicking and bawling my eyes out cause I had collapsed and was on my own. Once the lovely nurse at the entrance realise how shaken up I was she admitted me immediately, pretty much doing all the work for me. I was seen very quickly, and even though I was still sobbing and panicking the nurses made sure to take all my information properly and took the time to calm me down. Two other nurses who were doing my tests were extremely comforting and heartwarmingly lovely about my state actually took time to make sure I was okay the whole time I spent in the waiting area. I was offered drinks and food multiple times. The doctor that ended up examining me was so helpful and calming, I was very lucky to have been treated by all of them. 10/10, they made an awful situation into a comfortable one.

Emergency Eye Appt. My optician booked me in to the QA Emergency Eye Dept on Saturday morning (22/07/23) and I was seen exactly at my appointed time on Monday (24/07/23). A little wait but then whistled round multiple assessments and different pieces of equipment in no time. Very clear description of the problem and collected my prescription from the In House pharmacy in around 10 minutes. The North Car Park was almost empty so all in all an exemplary service. Thanks so much.

Complete farce of an emergency department. Took my partner in at 12:30am after she woke up having severe chest pain, sweats and breathlessness. 10 hours in she is still waiting after two botched blood tests, hasn't slept and they need to take a third test due to not taking enough blood the second time. The department had about 4 people waiting and was barely busy in when we arrived. How can it take so long for something that could be so serious.

In 2020 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and underwent two operations at Queen Alexandra Hospital, as well as several scans and a number of consultations. I cannot express how grateful I am for the excellent treatment and care I received from staff at all levels. I still attend regular check ups and feel very fortunate.

Left me badly scared and with life threatening infections after botching 3 dialysis access lines this year. When I raised a number of complaints about this a subject access request revealed attempts by hospital staff and management - going all the way to the top - to try and deny me care without being seen to deny that care, rather than address the issues in the complaints. Internal emails even show staff mocking me. It's been an ongoing battle with this hideous hospital to get basic safe, clean and effective treatment.

Every member of staff we met from the ambulance through A&E to the doctors and nurses on the ward and finally the discharge staff made us feel we were in safe hands. They are all so patient, friendly and positive we're privileged to have this hospital and its staff.

I was on a weekend break with a group of friends. I called 111 for advice as I was having breathing difficulties due to having asthma and was not responding to my usual inhalers. I was booked into this hospital, I must admit I didn't have to wait very long before I was seen. The care I received here was outstanding, they were clearly extremely busy, but everyone I observed was treated with care & dignity. I can't thank the staff enough for the care I received in my hour of need. They all are truly amazing!

I came on time for my appointment, even checked in way before my time! And someone else came in from their appointment just a few minutes before their appointment and got called in before her time! And I've been sitting for 20 minutes. I don't understand how they prioritize their patients but I would not recommend this hospital.

Spent all week back and forth trying to get sorted. 1st referred by Practice Duty Doctor as to EM eye care. Very rude and blunt receptionist! (needs to find a lighthouse keepers job). it seemed a bit of a scrabble as to who was not going to see me but a kind doctor stepped up and in no time was triaged and given next morning appt. Wednesday - Wow what a day apart from your mandated hurry up and wait which if I'm honest wasn't that long, I was seen fully checked opthalmology wise and advised to come back if things did not improve. Thursday felt like cleaver stuck in it Advised by GP to go direct to A&E From start to finish WOW, once people understand that processes take time and serious overrides lesser. there will be some time to wait and the staff are pretty run ragged already, have a thought for them as you wait. NP Ash on duty A&E I can't praise her enough, one look and as she bled me she basically told me what the diagnostic would have to say, 4 hours after saying it she had confirmed, arranged XRAY and got into a clinic with right consultant to start proper treatment of GCA which I understand is a Significant threat to eyesight if not caught in time. I don't have the power to change wages but if I could double it is still underpaying. I CAN SAY 💯 THANK YOU 💯 TO THE NURSING STAFF AT EM EYE CARE TEAM AND A&E DEPT

The staff were fantastic looking after me and giving me the right care and attention that was required. I had to go back a second time on the same night after accidentally taking too many tablets and they were reassuring and observant. I highly recommend this hospital because they go above and beyond every time.

Attentive staff, thorough processes, a very very well equipped hospital. Having worked in this hospital's Emergency Dept as a volunteer in the past (for two years) it's my considered opinion that many of the negative reviews on here are likely to have been posted by people who had no patience and ended up being abusive to the staff. It's horrendous to see how much ill temper and bad behaviour NHS staff receive from patients and their families.

My 17yr old daughter went to A&E twice last weekend whilst becoming ill in Portsmouth. The rude doctor fobbed her off both times with a leaflet & didn’t even do so much as a blood test after she presented with a full body rash, swollen lips & glands, temperature and pain in her upper abdomen and chest. I took her straight to our local hospital once she came home the following day, where blood tests were immediately carried out. It turns out she has acute glandular fever, with swollen liver and spleen with compromised liver function. I’m currently taking this further. Appalling doctor!

There is a number of very malicious women who are working there in different positions, admin, cleaner's,care workers, nurses or volunteers. The hospital staff is checked about their phycological health ? I doubt. Not few of this female worker's express their malice with evil comments and "clever" or better sick humour towards the young usually male agency staff and they quickly disappearing in their officies or hidding elsewhere after. What a malice and arrogance from this persons ! I know that the NHS will protect them because of their gender and lies but i hope that one day the complaints of the people will be more than enough to keep them out of health care.

I self refered to Ward E1 last week. I was dealt with initially by Jemma who was then assisted by Lou. Both nurses were professional , empathetic and friendly. I was put at ease , my immediate issue resolved and a clear way foward explained and agreed. NHS at its best. Thank you.

Firstly, the ambulance service was incredible. The two lady paramedics that picked me up on Fri 26th Nov early morning in Horndean with a heart attack were brilliant. Kept me calm and took me up to a doctor/ surgeon who then saved my life are of the highest calibre. Forever in your debt.

I have often been in and out of QA throughout my life but more recently have been suffering from a head injury of sorts. They managed to get me an MRI scan within a month, after being told the usual waiting time can be up to 2 years. No solution to my problem as of yet, but have received as much support as I could have asked for. Only complaint would be the wait times. There have been instances of waiting times of more than 4 hours, just to be told that they are too busy to have the arranged meeting, which is obviously disappointing. Overall, very helpful and convenient.

Spent 4 weeks on ward E8 (respiratory) and quality of care was excellent ... Nursing staff were friendly and highly professional during periods I spent struggling to breathe ... Consultant was reassuring and explained my condition and treatment in a way I could understand ... Ward was clean and spacious (4 patients in large room) and cleaners constantly at work throughout the day after mealtimes mopping wiping and emptying bins etc ... I thought the food was good with a reasonable choice of alternatives but I enjoyed school dinners,so make what you will of that ... Fish and Chips on Friday my favourite Overall what could have been a horrendous agonising painful death by pneumonia and empyema became a quite bearable stay in hospital with the "BRILLIANT RESPIRATORY CARE TEAM ON WARD E8" ... but I am biased ... They saved my life !
