We went on holiday at the beach and fortunately we discovered this gem for our brunch. The place has a beautiful sea view and it is welcoming inside. The service is well organise and so attentive - they split their responsibilities to bring food and drinks without any waiting time. - The food was superb and well presented. Furthermore, the quality was fresh and really good portion. I recommended the “The Briny Breakfast”. One of the best brunch that I have ever eaten.

Breakfast at the briny this morning. A beautiful sunny day so breakfast on the seafront was an ideal way to start the day. We booked ahead and were greeted by the host who was friendly and chatty and found a better table than booked which was great. Drinks were ordered just after sitting down. Menu was pretty diverse. Prices a little higher than average but unsurprising given the location. Food was tasty and fresh and service friendly although we did have 5 different people taking our orders and delivering food and drinks and payment. Venue itself was clean and well laid out with plenty of inside and outside seating as well as table, bar and pass seats depending on what sort of experience you wanted with your food. On a sunny day a nice place to stop.

Invited by my son and his girlfriend to join them here. Great place, great food and great ambiance. Starters of Crab and Pork Belly were both taste sensations. My Baked Cod with chickpeas and bacon was mouthwatering and gone to soon... to finsh a medley of puddings - great raspberry brioche, but the best was the plain chocolate and ice cream... the price was steep... but for once, worth it!!! Highly recommend...!!!

I was expecting the typical cliche restaurant by the beach with a great location but with average food. I was completely wrong. Service was amazing and the food was so fresh and delicious. So good that we were staying in the area for the weekend and went there for dinner and the next day for lunch and did not regret it.

I have had a beautiful Briny Breakfast, everything was cooked perfectly - the best breakfast I have ever had. The waitress Evie helped me with everything and was very attentive to my requests. Everything was on point from the very beginning, I highly recommend to choose this place as it is just unbeatable in any aspect.

catch of the day was whole sea bass, meat very bitter close to the head I would recommend this fish to be cleaned properly before cooking. It’s a seafood restaurant and expect more experience. Specially when you charge £24. We informed the waiter but they didn’t care. Should I come back? Don’t think so…

With the sad closure of Beckett's our go-to restaurants for fine food in Portsmouth has been reduced to a handful. Fortunately for us one of these is The Briny. The location is unmatched, the service attentive without being overbearing and the food is always the star. Sure seafood is the specialty but that does not mean they don't do other foods. The menu is broad but not excessive. The system is small and large plates which means thise with smaller appetites can have a small plate instead of a full-blown large one. The fish dishes are exquisite – on this my second visit this year – the fish and chips were wonderful. The home made mushy peas a lovely accompaniment. My wife had oysters followed by mussels and rated them highly too. The drinks options are good too. Cocktails, a small but decent range of draft and bottled beer and a good wine list too. Fully recommend, and if you are going in clement, summer weather, then take the opportunity to dine outside, it is well worth it!

First visit, excellent service and location. As with their sister restaurant, abarbistro, excellent food and atmosphere. We only had the small plates, haddock fish cake, crab mayo and pickled cockles. Superb choice of wines available.

My family and I came down to Portsmouth for a day trip and spontaneously decided to dine in at The Briny. We ordered a bit of everything to try cause all the platings look fabulous on Google photos. Food were spectacularly plated, well-seasoned; we even had to order more oysters! The waiter who served us was very nice and welcoming, would love to revisit next time!

The Briny, was extremely accommodating to me being a coeliac and gave me a specific gluten-free menu. There was a lot of options which I was ecstatic about, I went for the fish and chips. My goodness, so damn good. Ah I wish I lived in Portsmouth so I go here more often. I wish I could leave 10 stars.

I am very disappointed with this restaurant. They are located in a nice area near the beach and the restaurant inside is quite nice. The problem is the food quality, the price, and also the service. Starting by the food quality, the food is very bland and it doesn't taste much. We ordered 3 fish and chips, and they all were very greasy and tasteless. Then they suggested taking the fresh fish of the day, which was a seabass, but when I asked if I could clean the fish myself, they said it was already a fillet. 1 of my family members at the table ordered it anyway, and the portion was ridiculously small for the very expensive price. The only dish that had taste was the mussels. But again the price is very high. The service is very slow, and they don't seem to pay attention to the customers. My father in law ordered a beer, and we had to remind them multiple time before getting it. The same for the starter, which took long to arrive, and it seemed they forgot about it. The restaurant was busy, and this could be a reason for the long wait to be served. In the kitchen there were 4 people but probably they were not organised or enough to deliver a good service. This place at the moment has no competition as they are the only one in the area but I honestly I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If you love to pay a premium to be sat in a busy restaurant that serves tasteless food and very very slow, then this is thenplace for you!

Location is great. No issue with finding parking on a Saturday night. Service was nice but maybe abit slow. Some of the fried food was a little oily (samphire nibbles) plus 2 of the mains were off/run out which was disappointing. But the other food we had was all tasty and cocktails were good

Not to be missed! The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. I follow a strict medical diet to control MS symptoms and the chef brilliantly prepared an off menu dish that was suitable and delicious. I had the smoked salmon starter, halibut with broccoli and hazelnuts for my main, and an off menu fruit salad for dessert. My husband had the tomato tarte, skate wing and a cheese board. We would not hesitate to come again the next time we’re in Portsmouth.

Really good food here right on the seafront. Good selection including some seasonal. Great service, also had a musician at lunch.

Very charming restaurant, Great service, food was delicious i was really positively surprised. The desert so so yummy and quality ingredients. Live saxophone as well, we had little issues with the waiting times and a missing side dish. The restaurant manager checked up on us very nicely and quickly resovled the problem. I can’t wait to be back as I enjoyed the food and experience very much. I highly recommend this place

When I googled the best seafood restaurant s in Portsmouth, the Briny came on top of the list. So we wanted to try it out. We didn't have reservation but we were lucky to find a table. The restaurant was full around 13.30. I ordered oysters which were delicious. Then we ordered the fish of the day which was Mackrell and squid, delicious as well. We enjoyed it very much. Great location by the beach.

First time visit and we will be back again!!! We did have the perfect weather for sitting outside drinking chilled rose wine. The Briny staff were lovely, efficient and very welcoming. The food was simply fantastic. Really hit the spot. Very tasty. I had roasted river Test trout so local to Hampshire too. Highly recommended.

Totally worth the hours drive from Basingstoke! Came here for a birthday treat and will definitely be back. The food was to die for, the staff just lovely and the total bill very reasonable. Would recommend without a shadow of a doubt.

Not often in my 30 years on this planet have I had to stop myself mid meal to take a moment to just appreciate the taste and quality of the food, simply amazing, unreal, exquisite, beautiful! The service is pretty flippin' great too! Loved it, can't wait for an excuse to come back! PS. Try the Kentucky Fried Trout, it's Kentucky Fried Heaven!

Sea front restaurant serving a variety of fish/seafood dishes. Inviting looking outside area perfect for when the weathers good. Inside has a different feel, very well designed stylish restaurant. Service was exceptional, one of the few places that seems well staffed at the moment. Fish was excellent very crispy and flakey inside, came with curry sauce but not with tartar as says on the menu had to request this separately. Pickled cockles excellent accompanied with bread and butter. Fried trout superb. Will be back when next in Portsmouth.

A delightful seafood restaurant. On arrival and as we were early for a 2.30 reservation had a drink at the bar.All staff were thoroughly engaging and knowledgeable about the local spirits being used in some of the cocktails. Also drink and food. Our table for two overlooked the promenade and out to the solent. The menu is also augmented with daily specials. The seafood is as you would expect '2nd to none' . We had the battered samphire, cockles, oysters, crab special of the day and also catch of the day which was plaice, all of which was perfect and accompanied with excellent wine from a wide and exacting wine menu. As the sun came out from behind laden skies the restaurant was bathed in glorious autumnal golden hues through the huge windows and doors that run adjacent to the promenade. I would recommend perusing the menu before arrival and be adventurous with your taste buds. We were impressed so made another reservation for a fortnight and were fortunate we could get a table. I highly recommend this delightful and delicious restaurant.

I love this venue. I’ve not been often but they’re so wonderful! The food, the wine, the service, they are fabulous. After a slightly awkward dinner with louder tables; they were very sympathetic and understanding and tried to deal with things appropriately. Anyway, asides from that it was a brilliant evening and they are lovely in there. I wanted to revisit here and enjoy the experience. They’re on par with decent London restaurants. Hats off to The Briny

Loved the food in this restaurant. The fish of the day was very tender and juicy. The brill was also great. Dessert: pumpkin pie with bees - mild combination of pumpkin pie and whipped cream - delicious! I recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Second time here and as good as ever. Service/Food/Atmosphere etc all brilliant, prices pretty reasonable too..... Skin on fries with gruyère and crabmeat.....The Briny equivalent of dirty fries are something else!

Fabulous food, fabulous food, good quality service. Not easy for us to go out since we are clinically vulnerable but they managed to put us out the way and it was so good to eat out. Our first time in 2 years! Our son is at Uni here so I'm hoping we can have another safe visit very soon. Fabulous thank you!
