The worst pure Gym I've ever been to! First of all I’m a big fan of pure gym and the general layout of equipment and facilities. I have been to other pure gyms and enjoying training there. The bury new road gym is terrible! Reason for my 2 star review. 1 star is for the parking as it is good. 1 star is for the size of the gym as it is large. When you walk in the gym the first thing that hits you is the smell. Either air conditioning is not working properly or smell from bad carpets. Many lockers are broken and need to be repaired. The tap in the mens changing room has been broken for weeks. Out of order machines e.g leg extension. If you are coming here for weight training don’t waste your time. During busy periods even if you do find a bench you will spend 30mins trying to find some weights to use. The weights are scattered around the gym in random places. 1 Barbell rack with weights isn’t enough. No one puts weights back. This is clearly stated in your gym rules. Who is responsible for enforcing this? Who maintains standards of the Puregym Franchise. Won’t be coming back here!

Worst PureGym I've ever used. This gym is permanently unstaffed, it's very dark, and the weights are never in the right place - so it's very hard to find what you're looking for. I don't get phone signal inside and the wifi never works too. Very annoying! Tried to cancel my membership, but not sure I've done it right. The online guide doesn't match up with the options in the members' area, so I'm not sure if I'll be charged, despite cancelling the direct debit. Tried to contact them on Twitter but it's just an automated bot with no option to talk to a real person. PureGym seems to be an entirely automated set-and-forget business that doesn't care about its customers at all. I'm moving to the leisure centre up the road.

Worst PureGym I've ever been too. Everyone is too arrogant to put any weights back, equipment is old and clunky, dodgy atmosphere in there and people stand over weights like they own them. Do not go here.

First impressions were terrible, I've been to different PureGyms before and this has to be the worst. The ventilation is absolutely terrible, you walk in and the smell hits you like a truck, apart from the people in the gym not using body spray I can only blame PureGym for not ventilating the gym properly the smell is absolutely putrid despite it being a relatively big space. The weights section is completely unorganised, I feel bad for the employee that has to sort it out, 26kg weights in the 6kg section and the others are all over the place. The people don't have the decency to put their weights back and just leave them around the gym and even if they do bother they put them in the wrong place. If you do calisthenics you have room to do what you need to and there's a place in the middle of the gym suited for it which is the only plus i saw to it really. No one bothers to clean up where they were either apart from a few because every machine or bench i went to had sweat all over it. Friend recommended me this place so i though to try it out but not coming back again, unless you have covid and have no sense of smell I wouldn't recommend this gym. Really disappointed. If you're looking for a mid workout and possibly getting a disease while you're at it, this is the place, wasted 2 scoops of pre workout on this hoping for a good session too.

It's got some good OK equipment but what an absolute mess. There's weights and barbells scattered everywhere. You can tell your members don't appreciate anything in this pure gym on bury new road

Got to be the worst gym By far in Manchester. It’s filthy constantly. Changing rooms smell awful and unclean. The weights are never tidied by staff so it’s a nightmare to get weights off benches etc someone’s going to hurt them selfs. The machines are faulty and need replaced some machine have rust on them. No where near enough benches to go round. Joke for the price you pay really.

It is not bad but used to be better. Too messy around tbh. Plus they need to get some new equipment etc… because the stuff is old (not all)

    1) popular weights like 10s and 12s are never available, don't know why gyms don't have more sets of popular weights yet. 2) Super annoying announcements you can't even understand, either make the sound quality of the announcements better or just put that information on the walls or something. 3) Why can't they just add lockers where you can put a pound in and take the key? Really rubbish lockers, and conveniently they have super expensive locks for you to buy in the vending machines, maybe you can keep buying if you manage to lose your lock? 4) Theres a chest fly machine with broken seat and it's been months but it's still broken. Also broken steps machine, I mean evey time I go at least 1 of the two steps machine is broken if not both. 4) very limited variety in weight machines, just a lot of treadmills and bikes. But hey great price.

Really good size but the free weights section is a joke. I'm scrolling down and there's countless reviews commenting on this yet the issue still hasn't been resolved.

Recently had the carpets replaced, still problems with other users leaving free weights every where though this was addressed for a while, regular see other users are bypassing the security (multiple people using one password squeezing in to the entry pods together) but is a nice gym not as busy as the nearby salford precinct pure gym which has more focus as a weight lifting gym ,but is well maintained

I'm happy I chose this gym. Their equipment is well maintained. The place is clean.. Well ventilated meaning clean air to workout without bad smells.. Water available... although I wish they had more fountains with colder water, but it is free. Good facilities all round, help available when / if you need it from the staff who are friendly and approachable. I would say even the gym members are really good here. Everyone seems considerate in regards sharing equipment and cleaning properly.. Have met a few friendly faces over the months and it makes it a much more inviting environment if you know you are part of a club and not being judged etc... Classes are readily available and regular so you can incorporate into your own workout or just attend for classes..

Lovely clean gym. It's spacious and has good equipment that isn't battered like some of the other pure gyms in GM

I have come to this club for the first time tonight, it is a big and clean club, but it is surprising and disappointing that there is one chest press machine with a barbell. Please take care of it.

Love doing a work out, the only problem is I have to do my work out early as in the evening there are to many people in the weights area and you ate limited to what you can do. So if you have a routine and you can't get the equipment you want it's frustrating and your having to change your routine which is not good. But all in all equipment is great.

Good gym ,plenty of parking space. Only a couple of more cable machines.

Plates and barbells are kind of a mess but most importantly, please fix the men's showers or change their system. The push to use is a pain to use and its borderline cold 🥶

I go to the Bury New Road gym with my kids. They cancelled 3 of our memberships without any reason. Got plenty of money in the bank. No emails or texts 9ff them explaining why. No telephone calls from them. We only found out when we tried to gain entry. What's worse is that there is NO number to ring them on. How ridiculous. I have had to email them and am now awaiting a response. Don't know how many more days I'll have to wait.

Changing room is always the coldest room of the gym. 🥶 There is no hot water in the showers.

Not nice gym at all.. I have the plus member ship but I need to pay to enter ? This is ridiculous. Always unstaffed so not really helpful.

  • 2/5 Sadik M. 2 years ago on Google
Good equipment but poorly managed. Weights left lying around, you have to go and look for missing bits from the equipment and lots of idiots sat around talking or on their phones. Good availability of towels and hand sanitizers which no one seems to be using.

Decent gym, has a lot of machines, weights and plenty of room to create your own workouts. Would recommend

Why turn off membership wifi? I would not care if I had good 5G coverage but I get no coverage in the gym so have to rely on the gym 02 wifi, but for some odd reasoned they've turned the wifi off? its unbelievable!!

Have been using this gym since 2015. Seems to go downhill year on year. Less staff, equipment not well maintained, a mess because most people do not clear their equipment after they have finished and for some reason lots of people seem to think they can park in the disabled car spaces with no disabled badge. All in all not a place I like to be anymore. Doubt I will be a member for much longer, waiting for a better option that is max 10 mins drive from home.

Only been to this puregym once. Pretty much the same as the other four I've used in Manchester but was definitely less busy than the others this morning. Especially the city centre ones. Spinningfeilds is the once I use most and it had a lot less people in there. Sometimes it's worth the extra couple of miles to be able to get on all the equipment.

I love PureGym and this is the closest one to me which works out even better. Being in it feels so engaging and motivatve. The classes are fantastic too. I can easily book them at times easiest for me.

First impression was good, very spacious and a lot of equipment, but as you look closer, many of the machines were surprisingly quite battered. Some of the key equipment is also missing: only one bench press in such a big space is not enough; also a small lumbar bench is missing. There's only one water fountain that I could see, so a few more scattered around the space wouldn't hurt. Male changing rooms looked very knackered, there was even a hole in the wall (wondered what happened there) and not a very inviting space overall. You can live with how it is but I had different expectations from puregym.

Plenty of cardio machines, really good selection of classes. Not enough of some of the weights equipment, it could be doubled on some machines as it is hard to go on some and there is quite a lot of space still to use. I like the gym but some of the members should have respect to others.

I wonder if I will ever experience a day in here when all machines work properly 😂 A bit of a shame to be honest. But on the other hand you can meet some great and hardworking people in here - that makes the balance.

Good gym, always machines available and a variety of classes. It does get busy at peak times but that's to be expected. The PTs are great and very knowledgeable, can be approached with ease and confident that they will help you with any issues👍

I have been coming to this gym for over 8 years and have never seen any refurbishment or changes, I’m so disappointed that despite the commitment members like me have shown there has not been an interest in improving the quality of this gym. It’s definitely been neglected. A couple of members and I have been requesting a hip thrust machine and have had to make the long travel journeys to NRG Gym just to use a hip thrust machine. We have rarely asked for anything but this request is continuously passively heard & ignored. Can we please just have a Hip Thrust machine - that’s all we are asking for the amount of money we pay yearly to commit to this gym.

Please can we just have the HIP THRUST Machine - we have been asking for months! It’s easier and for those who struggle to stack up the weights due to mobility issues it helps. It would be a lot more disability friendly.
