Nice outside space next to the park. We had a horrible experience here waiting for our cocktails for over 40min. The staff told us there was a problem with the app that the shop is using for order, however, we could see that others customer were receiving their drink but us... The Shop Manager should train its staff properly.

Gone downhill. Used to be the place to go, but recently it's got dirty and sticky, coffee much worse and orders take ages. We came for two coffees, and were waiting well over 25min, had to ask three times about where they were. Twice politely, third time I went in and explained they had been forgotten. No sorry. Then served very mediocre coffee. Tap water tasted of soap. It's got expensive too. Need to work on keeping the place clean and probably have more staff or better organisation. Hope it improves again, in a lovely spot.

Tasty hot chocolate, but I was a bit disappointed in the cream. It was very runny as if it was the very last left of the bottle.

The staff here are lovely but unfortunately everything is really dirty or stained. The glasses smell strange, almost fishy. The teas are also very watery and tasteless although the staff tried their best to remedy this. Food is great, good location and great staff. I think they need a new dishwasher.

We like Mettricks because of its setting and atmosphere and because the breakfast/brunch until 5pm is unbeatable. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience this last time due to their poor service… coffees were forgotten and we had to go downstairs and re-ask for them… they forgot to bring our cake (although the staff was very kind to refund us) and our burger was served without bacon! (when we complained they told us that they had run out of it and that we should have been informed when ordering, but this wasn’t the case... again very kindly the staff offered hash browns in return for the missing bacon). We like Mettricks and we would like to come back again so we hope the next time we do so the service ensures our experience is (once again) the one we like Mettricks for!

OK, but expensive and not at all welcoming. Quite shocking really, despite my attempts, in being polite to them. Took a little while for our drinks too, and the place was mostly quiet. I'm going to assume something had happened earlier, for staff to have been so 'neutral' with their customers, but under normal circumstances, I would have rated this as 2 stars, maximum, for this experience. I cannot recommend, but I suspect you might get a different experience on another day.

Tasty, high quality food. Delightfully warm and welcoming staff. Beautiful, calm and rustic atmosphere. Came here for the first time this morning for breakfast with my dad and had a lovely time! We were welcomed with warm smiles by the staff and one gentleman is particular was extremely helpful with our questions, wish I asked for his name but was left very happy with our interactions. Even got a 20% off student discount which I wasn’t expecting but extremely happy to get. Will definitely be coming here again!

My top 3 flat white of all time. It was absolutely spot on. Bought some coffee beans to try out with my home kit. The ambience is modern rustic and the food is top notch. Definitely worth a stop if visiting Southampton

One of the best breakfast wraps I have ever had. Was so good, my only issue was that it I wanted more when it was done. Nice interior with plenty of seating. I would highly recommend and will be attending here again soon.

Exactly what we needed!!! After our flight from USA. We found this lovely jem. Beautiful place. Barista was warm, welcoming and very talented. Food and drinks were fabulous only negative thing is we live so very far away and can’t become regulars.

Mettricks Cafe & Bar is ideally located in town. A short walk from city centre and right next to the Solent University campus and guildhall. The place offers a wide seating arrangement, both downstairs and upstairs. The place has a busy ambience. Interior is ok, but seemed a little dark for my taste. The food on the other hand is great. Great to look at, and even more delicious. Loved the fried egg on toast, the carrot cake. The best hash browns I've had in a while. We ordered it with a sauce and it was mouthwatering. It kept me wanting for more. The tea and coffe was also good. The staff and their service was also great which made the whole experience worthwhile. I did find the prices to be a little higher than I would have expected. But definitely recommend this place for breakfast.

To start with, somehow they had run out of French toast, which I thought was just pan-fried bread? 40 minutes wait for the food without any warning and to be honest the place is not that packed. The food finally arrived and looked rather unimpressive, the taste wasn't great either. Never before have a struggled to cut through my pancakes. Overall, very poor experience and burnt, chewy pancakes.

Visited with friends on New Years Day for breakfast after ParkRun. I’ve had breakfast and coffee here before and I have to say it’s delicious! I recommended a group of ladies also go, which they did as we saw them there and they thanked me for the recommendation. Always great coffee here, starting to have more food as I attend more parkruns 😋 spot on service. Thank you

Came here as they’re a local company who roast their own beans, and the coffee was good! However it was a Saturday morning and I appreciate busy but only about half full over two floors. A 40 minute wait for hot food, I was informed when ordering and that was fine. But you would expect the food to be piping hot just finished cooking, it was lukewarm at best. Sadly it just wasn’t worth the wait which is a shame as I had high expectations from the reviews and feel of the place but it seems like the price has gone up and value has come down. £20 for a full English and a coffee is a bit steep. I’d come back for coffee and sweet treats but would look elsewhere for hot food.

Given it was graduation day in the area I was surprised at how quickly food came. Friendly staff, great brunch menu, tasty food (went for the smoked salmon, cream cheese and pickles bagel with hash brown bites) and good coffee. What’s not to like. Glad it was recommended to me.

The worst full breakfast that I had also I spent £13.50 for it!! In the menu it says mushroomS! But how you can see in the photos it is just a little mushroom just 1 that’s it. The toasts were white and NO toasted. The butter was cold and hard so it was not point to put them on the white bread. The presentation needs improve. We asked one of the coffees in takeaway cup they brought all in takeaway cups. If you want coffee it is okay but I dont recommend the breakfast

Very kind staff. I had a strange experience with a man following me and came to this cafe to hideout. The staff welcomed me in and kept an eye on the man who lingered outside. Nice atmosphere, good food and great staff. Would highly recommend.

Nice atmosphere, good music, very easy to order. Our coffee and food arrived fast. We ordered pouched eggs, smash avocado in a tostes. Good place to go for breakfast!

The coffee here was good but I found it bizarre that for the full brunch options there was either vegan or full meat and nothing for vegetarians - they tried to charge me extra for swapping in eggs for one of the vegan items of food. There’s a lack of good brunch places in Southampton that really cater to different dietary needs.

Nice little place for coffee/cake and brunch. Not too expensive and they make a tasty breakfast and serve with a smile, even when things are going a little wrong. A couple of times some items have been off (after ordering) but the team will make every effort to swop out items (e.g. trade bacon for sausage etc). Lovely bit of outdoor space too and dog friendly. Only downside for this place is the state of the toilets which could do with a bit of TLC.

There was an issue with the orders going into the kitchen so my friend's food came out and when we went to ask about ours they weren't even preparing it. So why 4 stars?! The staff were very apologetic, the kitchen staff worked quickly and the food was great. Sometimes even though the experience starts out very bad, the actions of the staff can help to somewhat rectify it. Being honest, I wouldn't return to this particular Mettricks. The toilets are appalling and tables all sticky, and it just needs general TLC. It is a shame as the food is great and coffee the best in Southampton.

My boyfriend and I visited yesterday for brunch whilst staying in Southampton and really enjoyed our experience. It was quite busy when we arrived so we were lucky to get a table and they let us know there would be a 30 min wait for food when we ordered which we were fine with and they served our food within this timescale. We had the Turkish Eggs and Full English Breakfast Wrap and both dishes were delicious and good portion sizes. Would definitely recommend!!

Nice environment, nice food, a bit expensive but overall good. A small mistake with our order which was quickly rectified.

We went to The Atic above Mettricks, what a fabulous place, Joe served us some wonderful cocktails 🍸 mine being one made with beetroot juice, vodka and egg White, it was amazing, Marks favourite was a coffee based cocktails with cream infused with maple syrup. Mettricks we also learnt is also a bar and cafe. Joe was very entertaining and informative.

Cosy cafe bar with lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff, good choice of freshly prepared, tasty food and drinks. Good range of coffee and tea too. Really pleased to find this place!

I used the upstairs space at Guildhall Square for my Mum’s 70th birthday yesterday and everyone had a really great time. The staff were super helpful and accommodating, plus the drinks and food were as good as always! They even stayed open an hour later than they usually do for us which was such a lovely thing to do! Would recommend!
