I’ve been a members for few years now and have noticed a rapid decline in the cleanliness hygiene of the place. I usually go about 9 pm as it’s quieter and there were always cleaners hoovering emptying bins Scrubbing the showers etc - now never see a cleaner - the showers are usually disgusting I have to clean them before I can use them after - there never any staff there late - the costs have gone up the standards have gone down ! Im looking for another place to go as this isn’t what I signed up to some years ago !!! Nigel Taylor - 58 2402 57

Nice clean tidy gym, went on a Sunday morning so busy but not to busy. Was able to use equipment with any waiting around.

Soulless compared to independent gyms, and lacking certain grass roots kit. However, it's a large space with adequate equipment, clean, tidy, cheaper than most, open 24/7 and literally a 60 second walk from my house so at least I get there!

I do appreciate this is not a premium gym, it’s a cheap pay monthly gym rather than a luxury one. On the whole it’s good value for money and it does get busy a lot of the time, because it’s a busy gym it has started to look a bit tired these days. Locker doors hanging off, showers not cleaned for days (Photo of the shower cubicle with hair in?… been like that for at least three days). Hand dryer has not been working for weeks. Sink area not cleaned. Private cubicles inside the men’s locker room been out of use for months now. Some gym goers have even started to have their own locker by leaving their padlock on it and rendering it out of use even when they are not in the gym, so yes, at busy times you can struggle to get a locker. And this is just in the men’s locker room. Outside in the gym area, the water fountain is often not working properly and leaking with loose taps etc. Can’t comment on the ladies one as I don’t go in there. There used to be lots of sanitising station to wipe down the equipment after use, but PureGym have cut back on these now, Just one for the whole gym. Maybe that’s why a lot of people don’t wipe down the equipment leaving their sweaty marks all over it. There is a good mixture of people using the gym, but I would say more student ages the most. Sadly, too many people sat on machines far too long as they go through their phones looking at social media etc, it can be frustrating at busy times. Vending machines selling protein bars / drinks etc are a little on the expensive side… just pop into Superdrug opposite before you enter the gym, their protein bars are cheaper. It’s a cheap gym and comes across as that at times. It really needs a good makeover and upgrade to the facilities inside. There is a studio area for classes and are often attended quite well, so must be good. I do wish they would turn the volume down a little when the classes are on though. No need for the whole gym to hear the instructor shouting over the music to be heard. It’s £20 a month and is still good value if you use it a lot, but it really needs some attention in areas. The good thing as well is that it is open 24hrs even if there seems to be no staff more and more these days in the evening and overnight.

This gym has an abundance of good equipment. Having been a competitive athlete fo 20 years and a gym owner myself. I'd be surprised if 50% ot the patrons do any exesise correctly. I've found a severe lack of gym etiquette. Customers sit on apparatus between sets on their damn smart phones for extended periods, while others are forced to use alternative equipment disrupting their routines.

Great gym with a large variety of equipment and lots of guides on how to use it. Staff are helpful if you have questions. Only annoying thing is the changing rooms locking after 12, no way to get in after then either without phoning up. Had to phone them to be able to get my bag which including medication I needed. Otherwise though it's genuinely clean and a good gym.

I'm just not to impressed about after midnight there is no staff working. If someone hurts themselves and they can't call for assistance then us people have to help. Technically it's not our job. And the fact that I tried buying a padlock from there vending machine it took my money but never gave me my chosen item. No staff to talk to so I had no choice to be out of pocket. Apart from all that I like the gym.

A very well-organized gym with all the machines and equipment needed for proper exercises

Lack of benches and cable machines which makes it hard to get on anything. Very overcrowded. Changing rooms smell and toilets have been broken for weeks. Prices are cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. Staff are helpful!

Only attend from 04:00 to 05:30. Very quiet then. Big gym, decent equipment and at £15a month. Pretty good value.

The only gym I've lasted more than 3 months at. Now been a member for 8 years. Large and spacious with good quality equipment. The only negative is it's not as clean as it used to be.

Absolutely love Sophie’s Spin class on a Monday and Wednesday AM. I went from absolutely hating spin to really enjoying it. Sophie is brilliant and gives you plenty of motivation, coaching tips and is also super helpful for those who have never done it before. Really recommend her class so thank you Sophie!

Becoming increasingly dirty! Equipment always broken, changing room dirty and toilets disgusting. Would make sense to shut down for deep clean and stop giving out so many free sessions to people who are never going to pay to go there. Look after your regulars. Not impressed

As a PureGym User for many years I have to say on the whole it offers great facilities, what I would say is that sanitising stations need filling up as soon as their empty On a personal and mental health note I wondered if Fitness instructors could do the rounds and approach gym members as they are working out and ask how their workouts are going and whether there's anything they would like to see more of. I think that kind of every once in a while type of engagement would enable members to feel more secure in the gym. My last observation is not about the staff so much but more of an observation that the young male gym users in this gym here really need to chill out more and feel empowered in working out, I see a lot of matcho stuff being projected to see if they are better than people. If you have had a workout smile hold your head up and be proud of who you are and don't listen to what the media, people or what anyone says you should be or conform to just chill out and enjoy your workouts a bit more. I notice a lot of gym users come alive when they engage with fellow members so I think they should just be confident to be themselves when coming alone. I get there's pressure to impress women who look nice but the focus and emphasis should be about just improving your mental health and keeping fit and being happy about yourself in life and stop conforming to pear pressure to be something or someone your not I never care what people think I just do my great workouts and head home. That's where I think introducing a bit of Instructor engagement with Gym user's might help with feelings of isolation as well as people going to classes.

A good sized gum with a few different areas. On the gum floor there is a studio area for classes, free weights area with various racks and benches. There are two large rows of treadmills and elliptical machines with various body machines. There is a body weights section upstairs with a spin studio. Their atmosphere is always positive and it never seems to get too busy, even around peak times.

Although maybe not as well equipped as the one in the city centre, it still has a wide range of machines and free weight options, which will be more than adequate for 9/10 gym goers. A happy side effect of this is although like most gyms it will get busy during peak times, It's version of busy is a lot more manageable than centrals. I have not attended any classes so I'm unable to give an insight to those but from personal experience when I've had interaction with the staff they seem pleasant.

I got a membership, last month, moved from the gym (paying £16.99 a month) to paying £21.99 at this gym, because its closer to my house. They didn't "charge" me joining in fee because they had an offer For some reason they cancelled my membership without warning me, so I was not allowed entry and then when I tried "restarting" my membership, they charged me another £15 for joining in fee... Played it nice puregym, nice way off scamming people. I should have stayed with the gym, at least they didn't scam me in the past 8 years I was with them and before "cancelling" the membership they would send a text message and a email, so they don't find a reason to charge for joining in fee. Absolutely pathetic 😒

This place at first used to demotivate me simply because of how busy it is. But if you go during the day its a different story. The machines are well worn in but there are a variety of machines here. Probably 2nd to The gym on Shirley high Street for budget gyms anyway. Parking at the back for 2 hrs is a bonus. Lift available. Toilets and showers are fairly clean most of the time and the cleaning facilities are present. All in all a very good gym with nice environment and people.

I wasn't much of a gym fan. Went to puregym and now I love going. All the staff are friendly and very helpful. The classes are suitable for beginners as well as experienced people. I won't go anyway else now! Thank you to all the staff!

Well equipped gym with plenty of space. The showers and locker rooms could use with some cleaning, at least more often. Also the PTs could be more friendly and advise some of the members on when they are doing wrong exercises, no one should injure themselves while a professional is watching them( saw it a couple of times).

Good gym, have added a lot since i was last there. Expanded the free weight area and packed in more machines without being cramped. A few of the machines show the wear and tear of a 24/7 gym but most are kept in good working condition.

It's a Pure Gym, need I say more. Loads of equipment and amazing team. 💪🏼💪🏼

In terms of variety of equipment, space and location, I can't fault it. It's got everything I need, no matter what kind of workout i want to do. I really like the mantra of inclusivity and acceptance pumped out across the speakers regularly, and certainly you see all body types and various levels of abilities in there, which is is a bonus point for them. For this reason, four stars. There are two gripes I have, one which is easily resolvable and one that isn't: 1. Given the rise in covid cases the country is experiencing, I'm surprised to see that at least half of the hand sanitisers are generally empty, as are the antibacterial sprays. Also, hardly anyone wipes down the equipment after using it, yet these are things Puregym also promote over the speakers. 2. (And this really is a first world problem) There's something about they way it feels in there- it just feels a bit dingy. There is a wall of windows on one side, which lets in natural light to about 20% of the gym, but that's cut off from the rest of the gym. Despite there being lots of space , this makes it feel less so, and as I say, a bit dark and dingy. I certainly don't care enough about the dinginess (is that a word?) to not go there, because on balance its excellent, and I can be extra careful with sanitising before i use equipment, but I do tend to choose to attend the Fareham one over this whenever I'm over that way.

Great gym never short on spaces even at the busiest times there’s equipment to use, and the PureGym app gives access easily with a QR code to enter. Everyone has been friendly as long as I’ve been there, since last October. Big clean changing rooms, clean toilets and lots of shower cubicles. Only thing to note is you need your own padlock for the lockers.

Gym with plenty of space and machines. Free weight zone should be bigger compare to rest of this place. Changing rooms has social distancing style
