If you’re looking to spend a lot of money at a restaurant that is old, tired, and has mediocre food then you’ve found the right place. Perhaps Tornados was once a grand restaurant, but those days are long behind it. Now the place smells like a musty old barn, the furniture is broken down and uncomfortable, the drink list is something out of the 1980’s (if they actually show it to you), the restrooms are dim, dated, and spooky, the uninspired menu average at best, and the staff could care less. All that for some of the highest prices of any restaurant in Rochester. We made reservations at Tournedos for what we expected to be a special evening. What we actually experienced was just the opposite. Entering the dining room we were hit in the face with a terrible musty smell that permeated the whole meal. The padding on the outdated chairs had worn out years ago so we were literally sitting on the wood frames. Our waiter seemed completely uninterested in his duties. We never received a drink list, never had the menu explained (except to say that several standard steakhouse items were “unavailable”), at each course every person at the table was served the wrong dish, several of dishes were prepared incorrectly for our order, and we always had to ask for silverware and drink refills. He often clumsily reached in front of our faces to grab dishes without a care. The only time he checked on us was when he brought the bill (which included a 4% fee for using a credit card). The food was uninspired and average. Honestly, I could cook a steak at home that would have been better for a quarter of the price. Maybe if the owner would actually put some money into the place, trained the employees about what service at a fine restaurant should be, and upgraded the food this place could be salvaged. But until that happens steer clear – there are much better steak places in Rochester. Unless that is you feel like spending a lot of money for a miserable time.

I would give this place 10 stars if I could, this was the best meal I had in Rochester. The ambiance was nice and Jeff was one of the best servers I've ever had. The steak was phenomenal, the calamari and crab cakes were so fresh but the real star was the bananas foster dessert. I will absolutely be back here, I can't recommend it enough.

We went to celebrate birthday, we got a nice table, service Was good, bread was delicious . We got steaks, I asked the waiter how small is their petite ribeye and he assured me it’s about 12-14 oz so not that small, and I ordered it. We got our steaks and they were just great and cooked perfectly. Then we got our bill and I noticed they charged me for wagyu ribeye instead of petite. (Which was $30 more) We asked waiter if it was a mistake, he came back within 5 minutes and said that he took our sides off the bill ($25) and that he took off even more than he should have , like he was doing us a favor . We didn’t argue because of $5 of course. But the way he handled situation, was very disappointing. The manager (or hostess) gave us not a very pleasant look and nobody even said goodbye to us when we were leaving. I don’t think we will be coming back, the birthday celebration was kind of ruined because of this type of treatment

One of the finest steaks that I have been fortunate enough to enjoy. The oysters...the pork belly...the setting. The service. If it was Rochester's best kept secret it should not be. Fantastic place 😀

Love, Love, Love this place... been coming here for years and I can truly say it's one of the most consistent places with friendly staff! The food is always outstanding! GREAT STEAKS! They are under new ownership and I've been there twice since, they seem to be doing a very good job. They've made some revamps... all good... I'm actually heading up there this Friday (my Meat day!) And I can't wait! Perfect place for a night out w/ that special someone or even w/ Friends/Family for a good time! This photo was actually my last meal there... incredible!

Post covid excuses are getting old. The restaurant has been opened for many years. Numbers were not the problem. The staff were tripping over each other. We had three different people coming to our table. The servers didn't seem to communicate so when we asked for anything I guess they thought the other server would do it. The wine never came until mid meal and that was after frequent reminders. My entre (three pieces of meat) was presented on a long skinny tray so the "family style" sides and the meat had no where to go. I had to ask for a dinner or bread plate. The food was very good and there was enough to bring boxes home.

The service was nice! I enjoyed the crème brûlée. The meatballs were delicious. The steak was suppose to be well done but it was over cooked and dry. The Brussel sprouts were good. I also enjoyed the love potion, signature drink. My biggest dissatisfaction was with the steak ( it’s a steakhouse) and mash potatoes. The mash potatoes tasted like they came out of a box. This place has a beautiful ambiance, great for a date night. The food is also not seasoned well. For the price, I wouldn’t return.

Tournedos is the fine dining experience you wish you felt every time you went out for a meal. From the moment we pulled up to the valet we knew it was going to be a great evening. The staff is extremely kind and personable. The ambiance and atmosphere inside was incredible. The crab cake was the best we have ever had. We vacation in Maine every summer strictly for the seafood and this crab cake was better than anything we have experienced there. My scallops and her filet were both outstanding and cooked perfectly. The side of onion rings we shared were fantastic, especially with the Cajun dipping sauce. I wrote down in our reservation that we would be there celebrating my fiancés birthday and they brought us over a complimentary champagne toast towards the end of our meal. Overall there was not a single thing we could complain or fret about. We both agreed it was the best date night and dinner we have had in our five years together. This will absolutely be our new go-to spot for celebrations and any time I just want to eat good and feel good while I am doing it.

The food here is great. My steak was tender, seasoned properly, and perfectly cooked. Drinks are great. Tables are spread far apart so there's a lot of room. Wait staff are super friendly and attentive. It's an old mansion so it smells a bit musty. Valet parking is required so bring cash.

The atmosphere was great, but the service for a fine dining restaurant was subpar. When paying $300 for a meal for two people, you expect the service to be impeccable. That was not our experience. The first indication was that the server did not take down our order, he tried to remember it instead. This was the focal point of our poor experience. We ordered one American Wagyu Filet with an add-on of the large shrimp and one Japanese Wagyu filet, plus a couple side dishes. When our meal was delivered, the shrimp were not. I let that go because I didn't want to wait and let my filet get cold. The Japanese Wagyu came pre-sliced and rare with a hot rock on which to cook it ourselves. We've ordered Japanese Wagyu in much larger cities (New York, Detroit, Chicago) and this was the first time it was served rare and required us to cook it ourselves. The downside with this practice is that placing the thin wagyu strips on the hot rock immediately cooked it to a medium due to how thinly sliced it was. It was impossible to get a mid-rare, so we either had to eat it rare or overcooked. Next, we ordered two desserts. The Apple crisp and the chocolate dream cake. The Apple Crisp was delivered. After 10 minutes the server saw I had not taken a bite, and asked if something was wrong. I pointed to my companion and said "Yes, he hasn't received his dessert yet". To which the waiter replied "Oh, shoot. I forgot to put it in." That was the second time in one seating that the waiter forgot part of my order. One mistake in fine dining is a big enough faux pas, twice is inexcusable.

I'm always happy to refer people to this wonderful establishment. The food, service and overall ambience is satisfying. I encourage anyone who want a new experience in fine dining, to give it a chance. A great first date kinda place 😉

I’m torn on how to review this restaurant. The steak was phenomenal, and it is a steakhouse, so on one hand that should prevail. However… We eat out a lot, and frequent steakhouses everywhere we travel to. We always order lobster bisque, if it’s an option, and we did so here. This was the worst lobster bisque we ever had. Though it did have a lot of seafood in it (shrimp, crab, scallops, in addition to lobster, which was unexpected since it was listed as lobster bisque, and not a seafood bisque), and they didn’t skimp, the bisque, itself (and the feature of the dish), was watery and bland. I wish I was exaggerating when I say this, but it tasted like they had a couple spoonfuls of actual bisque left in the pot and decided to add 2 cups of water to make two bowls out of it. Seriously disappointing for $22 a bowl. I suppose what really bothers me is that when a server asked us how everything was, I told them everything was exceptional, except for the lobster bisque, which was just awful, and though they said “we appreciate the feedback because it’s a new recipe”, didn’t seem to actually care. A manager didn’t bother to follow up or anything. For contrast, I’m the type of person who would usually lie in that situation and politely say everything was great. Again, everything else was fantastic, including dessert, but when you’re dining at a high-dollar steakhouse, the bar is high and they should be getting it right on everything. The chef should be embarrassed to have served that bisque. I ordered the dry-aged ribeye and my partner order the filet mignon. Both were cooked to the perfect medium rare temperature that we ordered and had a perfect crust. Very tender, flavorful, juicy, and delicious. We also order the creamed spinach and butternut squash, both of which were spectacular as well. For dessert we had the apple crisp and pistachio panna cotta. The desserts were outstanding. Perfect textures and full of flavor!

The restaurant was good. Pricing as you should expect. The Steak and Salmon we ordered was excellent. The desserts were really good. The mashed potatoes and calamari were excellent.

(Only three star for rooms because I didn't stay in one) but everything else was perfect service was speedy and just on time every time. I had the porterhouse, and it made the rest of My table jealous so I highly recommend it.

This is a high-end steak house. Don't go here looking for a cheap cut or to be frugal. You get what you pay for at a place like this. They have A5 Waygu if you really want to splurge, but their dry-aged porterhouse is my favorite. Service is impeccable. Each table is assigned at least 2 people to help pour drinks and clean up. A wonderful dining experience all around. Their calamari is top-notch too. Highly recommend that. Dessert was just OK. Not bad, but just alright. Our table seemed to enjoy the pear-infused cognac a ton though, so maybe stick with booze or their house grappa.

Best steak in Rochester. Of course the cuts are a step below the high end Vegas or New York City cuts. The dry aged cuts have good flavor. If you want to splurge a bit, I'd recommend renting the library room. It was great for my parent's 50th anniversary. You can hear each other talk and your waiter gets an assistant. The main restaurant seemed a bit loud and crowded for the price point. The dessert cart is impressive. It has quality dishes and liquors. If I have any critiques, I would say our primary waiter seemed a bit nervous serving the private room, but he did just fine. The dessert cart confusingly had aperitifs (before dinner liquors) and digestifs (after dinner liquors) but did have a prominently displayed bottle of Louis XIII. These details didn't take away from the experience. Overall, one cut above a Morton's or Ruth Chris of most average sized cities.

Booked for anniversary and after settling in we were hungry and excited to eat a nice steak. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed… Tired and hungry we ended up ordering door dash. The Inn was actually very nice. Our room was beautiful. The staff was very friendly. I would have given 5 stars if I had the opportunity to try a steak or been informed. The restaurant is closed on Sunday, I hope this helps someone out.

Food was excellent, but service was very slow. Waiter seemed to deliberately ignore us and was not friendly. Some of the details of a fine restaurant were missing, such as crumbing the table between courses and offering a taste of the wine before it was poured. Despite the good food, I would hesitate to invite guests.

My husband and I went for our anniversary and this was our first time here. The service, from the minute we walked in, was excellent! Our waitress was great and stopped by to check in with us to make sure we didn’t need anything. Our food was great. I got the domestic wagyu strip steak and oh my god it was the best steak I’ve had! I also got a side of mashed potatoes, which was enough for both of us! My husband got the salmon and he said his was great as well! We will definitely come back here again!

We went as a large group and had a pre-determined menu. And sides served in group bowls. The photo is of all the items that I put together. The food was good but not really worth the price tag. The sides were better than the wagyu. Service was attentive, not much personality but she took very good care of us. I wouldn't go back if I was paying the bill but as a corporate event, sure.

I could come here just for the appetizers - crab cake is phenomenal and they have the best Caesar salad this side of the Mississippi. I know, I know, your thinking, "How good can a ceasar salad be?" Well. I thought that too..and then I had this one. Never a disappointing meal here!

Never Again ! I would go every year for Thanksgiving and hold my companies parties there at Christmas. Thanksgiving dinner was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. Started with the Soup, Seafood Bisque with no seafood, just broth. I asked for some Chopped Red Onion and Carrots for my Oysters and I was told they didn't have any. Not sure what they put in their salads. Then on to the main course Steaks, which my son ate mine because his Kansas Strip he could not cut through, he's 30 and the knives were sharp. It's Sad and I do not leave reviews although after spending $ 800.00 on dinner I just felt the need to share

The only issue here was the waiter, who was so off we felt uncomfortable. He had ZERO personality, friendliness, was stone faced the 2.5 hours it took for meal. It was so off-putting. The helper he had was so friendly, professional, polite and sweet, we wished she was our server. Gave an extra star for her service. One other issue, expect to have a cash price, and card price on bill. The increase for credit card was shocking, have never encountered this before, anywhere. Felt like a slap on a bill close to 500.00 All from apps, meal, sides, deserts were very good. The calamari app was the best I've ever had. For the price and reputation of this establishment, you would expect to be treated better.

Amazing service. Bread was hot and crispy, wagu steak was cooked perfectly. Sides were good. Caesar salad was mehh. Lobster tail was a little overcooked and not worth $82/tail

We went there for the food tasting for our wedding. We sampled many things: salmon, chicken milanese, stuffed chicken and pork medallions. For sides we had truffle smashed potatoes, vegetable risotto and grilled asparagus. We also were able to try The staff was friendly and Danielle is amazing. The food was fantastic definitely a nice place to check out.

We love Tournedos! Locally owned. Very fine dining - mainly steaks and seafood. Tonight we had a steak and sea bass; delicious. Private dining rm, dining rms and but also bar seating which can be more casual. Extensive cocktail and wine menu. Attentive servers as well.

This is a classic, high-end steak house in a Colonial setting in a fine hotel. As one would expect, they also have fish, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. The steak selection is huge - often 12 to 15 cuts. Mine was grilled just to the 'pinkness' that I requested, and arrived with a side sauce - bordelaise, per my request. Side dishes of mushrooms, roasted potatoes, and asparagus were delicious. Service was prompt, subdued, and not pushy. This is a great place for a special meal with that special someone.

Went on a Saturday night, week before Christmas with my wife for dinner just before a show at the Geva. Appreciated that the tables aren’t crammed together (no doubt owing to the face that all meals come out on trolleys rather than being carried by staff) but not eating on top of the table next to you makes it so much easier to relax and not strain to hear conversation. We had the seafood bisque and the calamari for appetizers. Calamari was excellent and the bisque I would describe as good rather than great. The bread and the butter/oil was very tasty as well. Having an on-site baker makes a world of difference. We each had the filet trio for dinner. Outstandingly well done. Cooked to a perfect mid-rare and each filet (au poivre, maitre de butter and Oscar style) were each better than the last. We had the mushrooms and the onion rings as sides and they were both tremendous. The onion rings especially are a must have, liberally seasoned with shaved cheese and a terrific crunch to them. Mushrooms perfectly cooked and made a nice vegetable to mop up the remaining sauce at the end. Did not have dessert or drinks as we needed to make the rising of the curtain, but the desserts are made in house and looked outstandingly good. The valet was quick and polite while bringing the car back. This is fine dining steakhouse fare so don’t plan on leaving for under $200 for dinner, but it’s worth it. Staff was polite and attentive, and the decor was tastefully done up with some Christmas-y themed trees in the window. A great location and a great dinner. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.
