An amazing trip, but if you want to have time to admire the beauty, I recommend reserving about 3 hours to get down and 3.5 hours to get back up. Sometimes it is slippery and it is almost impossible not to get wet at some point in the trip so i recommend some waterproof shoes or a towel to dry your feet after passing some places barefoot. It is a beautiful and not tiring track, anyone can do it (maybe u should not bring small children, but if you do and tou help them, they will do just fine)

Nice short easy hike to a beautiful waterfall. During a hot sunny day it's a pleasure to walk through the gorge as it's covered in trees. I went with 2 small kids who don't even like to walk and they loved it, climbing over boulders and walking through the water.

This review is about the waterfall, but you have to walk through the gorge to get to the waterfall. Traveling from London to Crete, I had been told about the waterfall, and the walk there. I wasn't keen on the long walk, but was told it was well worth it. After some research, we found that if you park at the beach, it is a 20ish (we did it in slightly less time) minute walk to the falls and then the same back. Not too busy, but we were there on a weekday. Water was cold, but lovely :)

Fun and picturesque hike with a nice waterfall and picnic table at the end. Well-maintained, well-marked, and well-shaded! A bit of an adventure since you’ll be scrambling over rocks, climbing stairs, stepping through wet areas, and crossing small wooden bridges. There’s also a variety of flora and fauna to check out! 3 important notes: 1. You can start the hike at the “richtis gorge parking” right off the highway or drive a bit further down the smaller road to the “Lachana stone arc bridge”. If you start at the bridge you cut out ~25 minutes of additional walking each way. There’s less parking but I’d recommend checking it out if you’re short on time. 2. The hike takes way longer than the “1 hour 45 minute” round trip estimate on the front sign at the highway - that was very misleading. If you start from the parking area on the highway I would allocate at least 1.5 hours each way to the waterfall. If you start from the bridge I’d allocate at least 1 hour each way to the waterfall. We started at the highway and did it in less than hour each way but we were going as fast as we could short of running and without any breaks. 3. Don’t start too late! The trail is very shaded so it gets pretty dark starting an hour before sunset. The front sign says to not start after 5PM in the summer. Hikers told us not to be on the trail after 7:30PM. We started at 6:20PM, went super fast, and got back at 8:20PM, so it’s doable, but it was super dark at the end.

This place is NOT the start of the Richtis Gorge trail : Find the Lachanas Bridge to start the trail. You'll have to pay 3 euros at the little house at the beginning. 2 choices : way in way out to the beautiful waterfall or you can continue to the beach. We stopped at the waterfall and the walk is so worth it, several plants and animals along the trail... The path is not too exposed by the sun, delightfull

Forget the Samaria gorge, Richtis gorge is THE gorge! Although it is not a gorge like Samaria or Choko, it is well worth the visit. You will walk through a forest that looks like a jungle. Very interesting and very easy hike with lots of shades. We didn't start our descend at Richtis gorge parking but went a bit closer to Lachanas bridge using the dirt road that leads to Richti beach (follow the directions to the beach, just after you enter the village Exo Mouliana). We parked on the crossroad Richti beach- Lachanas bridge (see the photo) and then walked 10 min to the bridge. It took us 40 min to reach the waterfall (we are hikers in a good shape). And then 25 more to reach the beach (not a good place to swim due the rocks and waves). There is water at the waterfall and you can take a swim. The water is not cold, it is perfect to cool down after a hike. I would recommend this gorge to everyone.

Important - do NOT use Google maps to go there, just put Exo Mouliana, follow the signs, and park at the top, just after existing Exo Mouliana. We took the path down to the entrance in the gorge. First part of the descent was on a paved road, around 1km - you could also go by car, but there is not much space at the end to park. Then, you fiind the ticket box with a nice lady to pay the entrance fee (3euro per person). From there, it is another 3km walk/hike through the trees, with little climbing on a few rocks, but nothing difficult. You should bring some closed shoes so you can walk comfortably, and depending on the time you visit, you might have to go through a few cm of water. For us it was not the case, as water level was extremely low. We visited the gorge in September, on a cloudy day. I recommend you bring a light jacket if you know you are usually cold, as most of the path is in the shade. After this walk, you reach the waterfall in a small opening, with hip high clear cold water, perfect for refreshing. You can stay there for a snack if you brought food, just make sure to clean up after. Then you can continue the road to the beach by following the signs, or turn back. It takes one hour and a few minutes from the top parking to waterfall and the same when you go back.

Amazing hike, beautiful nature, old abandoned house on the way and a very beautiful waterfall at the end with the naturally formed pool where I was swimming. Water is very refreshing!!

A great route to the waterfall, in some places not easy. However, we managed to cope with the five-year-old, although in some places you had to help the child. The culmination of the whole trip is a swimm under a beautiful waterfall, which is always filled with water. The route to the waterfall took us 2 hours. Back, with the baby on his back - 1.5 hours. The concrete road can be driven directly to the Lachan Bridge, the most ordinary rental car. Richtis Gorge, September 2022.

It's an intense hike not suitable for young children and people with limited mobility. Beautiful nature and cute waterfall. There's some climbing involved and slippery rocks. Wear appropriate cloths and shoes!

The waterwall was small but really nice. We took going from the bottom, we had a short hike (around 30-40 minutes) and we get to the waterwall. Watch oit when getting there by car. Route down to the hike is very tight with a lot of curves (only one car fit). Entrance cost, but if Tou ge there after 5 PM there is nobldy to collect it. If Tou are going only to waterfall that is a good money saving :)

Amazing hike, not too difficult. We hiked down to the beach, don't park at the top, you can drive right down to the entrance. Most beautiful hike I've done in a long time!!

Stunning place to visit, terrain is very undulating so be prepared for a decent hike, definitely wear decent footwear, 3euro admission so be prepared, we went with a guide and thought it was included but had the change so all good, 30 minutes from parking to walk to the fall

I drove down to the bottom of the gorge. Exciting little road very steep and narrow in places but all paved. Fairly straightforward walk up to the waterfall (about 40 minutes I think) and then I went up further before returning. Fairly busy but not overwhelmed.

Very beautiful trail via gorge towards Richtis waterfall. We (family with kids 17 and 13 yo) went to the "Richtis Gorge Parking" not too far from the beach) by scenic road, and walked from there up the trail till we reached the Richtis waterfall. On our way we saw plenty beautiful plants, heard singing birds and enjoyed many mini-waterfalls. Then we went the same trail back to the car - It took us about one hour to each direction.

Beautiful gorge. Very well signposted. You can walk it from the bottom up or top down. There are parking spaces at either end. The waterfall is about a twenty minute walk from the gorge exit.

One the more amazing and beautiful Waterfalls I ever seen!! If you want to visit this place prepare yourself to fall in love like the water falls from the rocks, it’s a 30/40min walk to the water fall and you have to pay 3 per person. Also bring shoes (for the walk).

A nice walk, we did it in 3 hours. You can first stop to the waterfall and then proceed to the beach. Have good shoes and water. There is a lot of shadow so it's always cool.

First we parked in the highway since there to the water fall we walked around 1 hour and 30 minutes. You need to go early because after 6 pm stars to get darker and there are a lot of big rocks and steps you need to walk through. Water is cold but refreshing after that long walk. You have to pay €3 per person at the counter that is about 30 min walking from the highway.

A moderate trail, about an hour and a half each way to the waterfall and totally worth it! Continue with your car to the bridge itself (you can drive down from the car park) and save yourself a long and boring walk back up.

Nice valley if you're in the area. Total distance around 10km (to the beach and back). You can try and go down concrete road from the parking near asphalt road, it will take you to the entrance where you can park your car if you're lucky. Around halfway there is a small pond with waterfall where you can swim.
