My sister and I love the Dodge Co. area, and go on a couple of sister's weekends a year. We took a chance at the Dartford Inn, even though it was a bit non-standard, as far as motels/hotels go. We stayed a long weekend last October ('12) and loved it! There weren't many others in rooms, which was fine with us. It's what one might consider a bit of roughing it in the sense that you have to bring your own soap & shampoo, etc. Towels, all cooking utensils, a stove, small fridge, and all other amenities are hidden behind these cool, retro cabinet doors in the small kitchen. The heat worked fine; the shower was adequate, but the views of the river were awesome! This place is so neat! It was built out of re-purposed telephone poles in the late 1940's, and apparently has been a pretty popular stay-over location for hunters, golfers & fishermen, as well as sisters out exploring the world together. I was a little disappointed at the spring rates (we're leaving tomorrow for another weekend there), vs. the "out of season" rates; too much of a jump in price for what you're getting. All in all, we were charmed, and we're returning for the spring season with nothing but excitement!

My rating is primarily due to Larry (proprietor). He went WAY out of his way to help us. The property is an older property, but our room was clean. They are trying to update little by little. I’ve stayed in many fancy hotels around the world. This little hotel made all of us smile. We had a great time. Thank you again to Larry.

Two stars only because the staff was nice. I went here not expecting high end but at least decent. No way. When we first checked in the maint. guy followed us in from the pool and said the clerk will be there shortly. I tried to make small talk about the pool and the guy said it was shut down due to it not being up to code by the health department. Not a good start. In the lobby there was junk piled all around and it smelled horrible, like BO and mold, like something out of hoarders. The clerk comes and gives us keys...to the room we did not book. We booked the 2 beds with a kitchenette. My husband goes back and shows the proof of what we reserved, from their own website mind you...not a third party site. The guy gives in and gives us keys to the room type we booked. The room smelled like BO and mold. The carpet was horrible, did not want to walk on it in bare feet. We don't have a lot of money so we were stuck here as we could not afford another hotel and wait 10 days for a refund. The sheets were stained and the bed covers smelled like mold and BO. We had to go to dollar general and get air freshener and lysol to disinfect everything and get the smell out. I don't mind old or a bit run down, but I do mind smelly and nasty. We do not recommend. It's a shame as this place could make a killing if they took proper care of it.

Rooms are extremely dated (not "rustic"), a/c works horrible and is probably 15 years old, pool was shut down by the health department, no breakfast because the health department shut that down as well, the dock is pretty much useless and very small, they have great black wasps in the sunken hole in the parking lot, playground had a shredded aluminum can in the kids sand pit, there are numerous cats running around everywhere and the room has a very musty smell. The housekeeping guy did a great job though.

Had an awesome time here!!! Very quaint little motel, with the bare essentials covered! Clean rooms and linnens, tho a bit outdated (not our main concern). Very friendly owners/operators! This is a pet friendly motel, which is a plus! The only minus about being pet friendly: the owners 3 small dogs are loose on the property, they are NOT trained, greeted us by jumping ON our vehicle (I can still hear the nails on my paint!!! 🤬) and then tried to enter our vehicle while we were unpacking! The owners did secure the offending animal the rest of our stay, and we never had an issue with it again. Would highly recommend this no frills motel!!!

If I could give no stars, I would. We didn't even stay here and I called and left emails saying we needed to cancel and nobody ever got back to me. I gave notice within their few day policy that we wouldn't be there and so far, I have not been refunded. I called at the time they say they are open and nobody was awake and they seemed annoyed that someone was calling. They said those are summer hours. Nowhere does it say that on their site. This is a very unprofessional place and the way it says hosted by a professional host is absolutely absurd. There is nothing professional about this place. Believe the bad reviews. I wish I had. Update.... So, I received a refund, but no reply or communication from the inn.

This hotel is VERY dated!! Rooms are small. We arrived & no one was there to let us in. A note said to ring the bell or call. We did both & no answer. We drove back to town & he finally called. Went back & got into our room. Very musty smelling. Would not go back or recommend this hotel. Overpriced ($118 for one night) for what we got.

Proprietor was very hospitable but my daughter said it best that the Dartford Inn is "old, cold, and creepy". The heat was shut off for the season in the wing where our room was (didn't know that until we arrived). A little space heater had been set up and turned on, but it did not sufficiently heat the room. We slept poorly due to the cold so got up super early to get back on the road. Imagine paying $85 + tax for a night of lousy sleep! Cannot recommend.
