The location of the hotel is great. Next to a park, bars, restaurants great coffee shops and entertainment. Front desk service was great. They were helpful, informative and kind. Rooms are kind of dated. Carpet is old, smelly and made my feet sticky when walking bear foot on it. Cleanliness standard was disappointing. A thick layer of dust on kitchen shelves and bed baseboard. Some dishes had old dried food on them. Carpet on the hallway by the elevator hasn’t been vacuumed for days and visibly messy. To top it up unfortunately one morning there was a poop in the elevator. I would only return if the cleanliness standard improves.

This isn't a hotel, it's an abandoned daycare. Constructed with paper thin walls like a cheap apartment building. Children are dropped off at the hotel and left unsupervised. The room above us was used a jungle gym with children screaming at the top of the their lungs and jumping off furniture, causing the entire building to shake. Children ran through halls shoving us aside. There are three elevators in the building but the one to the garage doesn't work (requires a room key but the key reader is busted) and the only other one that goes to the rooms had the same problem of kindergartners literally shoving us aside to get on the elevator. This went on for two days straight with no stopping. Hotel staff need to enact code of conduct. I will never stay at a Hyatt property again. Update: it gets worse. They host weddings at the hotel on their outdoor balcony (not a conference hall) and it was literally outside our window blasting music while we wanted to sleep. Hotel response: "Oh that's the wedding, they happen on Fridays and Saturdays. Sorry, the hotel is sold out so we can't move you."

This is the worst Hyatt property we have ever stayed at and is now on our avoid list. Parking: Parking garage requires double parking. This means that you must hand over your keys to the front desk in case they need to move your car. We found our rental car moved and smelling of smoke - it appears that someone had smoked in our rental. Breakfast: We went to breakfast at 9 (they close at 9:30) and found that they were out of nearly everything. No coffee, eggs, or pastries. No silverware and trash cans were overflowing. Room: Dirty and has has tape on the ceiling. Had a cracked toilet seat (which required maintenance to come by). This property also hosts events. Be prepared for loud music until 10:30 at night (followed by an hour of them breaking down tables and cleaning up). Not where I would recommend going for a restful stay - though the wedding party seemed to have fun.

I was happy to see a nice modern looking room that overlooks the river. I arrived late Tuesday/ early Wednesday morning at 2am. The night time staff member was excellent. When i got back to the room after getting my things, i saw a brown roach looking bug (i am not in pest control so I am not sure what type of bug it was. Although I was completely uncomfortable, I decided to stay because it was extremely late. I looked around for more pests, didn’t see anything at that time so I didn’t complain thinking it was a one off. I took a shower which wasn’t draining properly (water was filling too high in the back of the shower) which made me uncomfortable because l only stepped on a towel since i didn’t have shower shoes. There was an accumulation of dust on the windows. What topped it off for me was the next morning I see another bug. This time it was black. It fell off the wall, i couldn’t locate it to kill it and put it in the trash like I did the other one and that bothered me to the point I had to leave. I was over charged. I had 2 charges of 175.26 and one charge of 215.26. I called the hotel to let them know they took over $500 from my account for a 10 hour stay and the messed up the billing. The front desk lady basically brushed it off without care. She did offer to get me to the managers voicemail with comments stating “this is the first time I’m ever hearing of bugs, i can get you to the manager but he’s the one you just told about the bugs when you were here.” She also offered me a receipt and said they only charged 175 and I need to call the bank for any other charges. Didn’t make sense to me but I did call the bank and confirmed that over $500 was taken out of my account balance. Although it’s still in the pending stage it is reflecting in the balance because it’s saying that I authorized this amount which i never did. The manager was apologetic but did not offer any solutions which was disappointing from a customer standpoint. All in all I am extremely dissatisfied.

Excellent location, clean and pet friendly, but avoid the parking. Hotel: My room was very clean, nice bed and huge shower. Some of the appliances felt cheap (coffee maker) but it was nice to have a dishwasher. Location: was perfect. Away from downtown highways/busy roads but still walkable to restaurants, shops, and a waterfront bridge view. Huge pro for being pet friendly ($80 total if you're under 6 nights). There is a dog park right across the street, with a dog friendly bar and beer truck as well, and a waterfront path/trail for walks. Probably as good as it gets for a dog in the city. Huge con is parking. $20/night and you must double park in their garage, meaning you may have to leave them your keys in case your are blocked in / blocking someone in. This was a deal breaker for me, so I parked at the Ignot garage across the street. Spent $32 over 3 days instead of $60, and could come/go without having to get other people involved.

They host weddings on their porch in the summer bc they don’t have a reception hall. Half the hotel (and all the nicer river view rooms) overlooks the patio. The music rattled the windows of my second floor room into the night. Not something you can sleep through. Annoying. Looking forward to my canned response from Dan like the rest of the reviews where he copy and pastes the same response.

Stayed here for a few nights when we were in town for the Steelers game. Off the bat we were not happy with the $20/day parking, but tried to let it go and move forward. the woman at the front desk was helpful and kind. We got to our room and immediately noticed there’s no exhaust fan for the bathroom, the couch was extremely uncomfortable, and the bed sheets were itchy, thin, and uncomfortable. The shower door also doesn’t close all the way so there’s a mess on the floor. The hotel has two elevators, but only one of them works. We found this out after seeing cleaning workers trying to navigate their large equipment in the elevator with guests together. The breakfast was decent. One morning the sausage and pancakes were still frozen but overall ok. The location of the hotel was awesome with the water right there, tons of restaurants and bars, and a walking trail right there. Overall we were disappointed in our stay, but I don’t think it’s the workers faults themselves. I think they are doing the best they can with what they are given. I think the hotel needs some upgrades and repairs made and it has potential to be 5 in all areas.

Recently stayed here with my wife while we were in town visiting friends. We selected this hotel due to the good reviews, but we overall had a lackluster experience. A majority of the positive reason for the three star rating is due to the location of the hotel and the proximity to restaurants, shops, and downtown south side of Pittsburgh. There is a new bar across the street, a dog park, and a new food truck food court, just to name a few of the nearby attractions. If you need to be near the town, this hotel is a good option. That is where the pros end for us. The hotel offers parking, but makes you pay $20/day on top of what you are already paying for the hotel, which is a lot for what you get. The parking garage is on the first floor and is very cramped and small, with a majority of the spots requiring double parking and leaving your keys with the front desk. The hotel common areas are fine, nothing special. They offer breakfast daily, and have a pool and gym; none of which we checked out while staying here. There is also a bar, which was apparently closed while were here. The room we stayed in was a king suite, and was very disappointing. It very clearly showed it’s wear and tear, and overall just felt dirty. The walls were marked up, carpet torn and worn looking, and the other furniture appeared very tired and worn as well. The bathroom kept cramped, and the water pressure in the shower was poor. Furthermore, they don’t offer daily room cleaning unless you request it. When I checked in online, I choose it, but it still didn’t happen. We ended up just requesting extra towels to get us by. Overall, the room was very tired and showed heavy wear and tear. If you need to stay in south south and this hotel is your only option, then it would work for a weekend. Beyond that, I would not recommend here, especially for value you are getting for the price.

It was clean and quiet. The staff were polite. Nice breakfast with good coffee. We had a view of the river from our room. It's a great place for dogs too. There's a nice dog park directly across the street.

I recently stayed in a King Suite at this Hyatt establishment. The hotel's location is truly a gem – conveniently situated away from the busy highways on the north side, with easy access to a plethora of delightful local eateries. The overall facility is pleasant, and the staff at the front desk couldn't have been more amiable. While the room itself is comfortable, there is room for improvement in terms of cleanliness. During our stay, we discovered a substantial spider web complete with its eight-legged inhabitant nestled between the chair and the dining table. The coffee machine in the room is of an older design and lacks K-cup pods. Additionally, the paper towels provided are on the thinner and cheaper side. We made use of the pull-out couch for sleeping. Although the closet contained extra pillow, the available covering was on the thinner side. Despite these minor drawbacks, our stay was overall satisfactory.

Nice Hyatt property in a convenient location. Asst. Mgr. Michael and staff were very helpful and accommodating. Great river views! I'll stay there again the next time I'm in the area.

Carolyn in group sales went out of her way to accommodate us setting up a room block for our gathering. She was a delight to work with at every step. During our stay, Dan the manager and every staff member met us with a smile and was ready to make us comfortable during our stay. Returning to Pittsburgh after 30 years, we love the updates to the South Side and enjoyed the river view from our room and the spacious balcony. Truly a one-of-a-kind Pittsburgh gem!

Would love to see ev charging stations available in the parking garage. This may be the deciding factor on if we need to find a different hotel next time. We've always stayed here when visiting PA, but not having a station made things a little inconvenient. Other than that, great stay, as always! The river views are great. The distance to shopping is awesome. Access to trail is outside the door! Elevator is extremely slow, lol. Better to take the stairs, if possible. Great breakfast, however, omelet bar wasn't in service:/

While the rooms and staff were both lovely, I would not book here again due to the sheer number of inconveniences. I did not feel like they probably communicated what it would be like online, which left my group questioning me for closing this location. To start the parking is extremely limited, and half of your parking options require you to either double park behind someone, or pull forward so that someone will be parked behind you blocking you in. If you chose to park behind someone, you MUST give the front desk your keys for them to move the vehicle. If you’re renting your car, this violates the agreement you make with the rental company to not give the keys to any nonapproved drivers. It’s also $20/day to park Secondly, the breakfast bar is completely falsely advertised online. there is no omelet bar, despite what the website advertises. After asking I found out the omelette bar has been gone since before covid, and that the hotel has continuously tried to contact Hyatt about removing it from their website, but they refuse. Likely because people would book with them for the benefits over another location. This is highly scammy in my eyes, and left a very bad taste in my mouth. You have to have a room key inserted into a panel, to turn the lights on in your room. Finally, they host LOUD events such as weddings that will play music for hours! I’m talking, you can hear every word of every song on the playlist, from your bed. If you want some relaxing time between the hours of 4pm-11pm, maybe pass on this location. The staff were friendly, and we loved the layout of our rooms, but all the inconveniences added up, and left us disappointed. If they had been more upfront online about what the experience would have been like, I wouldn’t have been so let down.

The staff here are fantastic! We ran into some issues with a 3rd party booking company, but Ms Tshidi was very helpful and patient with us while we sorted everything out. She is truly a gem!

Our family travelled to Pittsburgh to visit with family and do some touristy items. Overall the hotel did a great job serving our needs as a place to sleep and get ready in the morning for a day of fun. We enjoyed the included breakfast that featured fresh cooked items like eggs, sausage, pancakes, french toast and other breakfast favorites. They had healthy options as well. There was a gym that had treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes and free weights. There was a nice pool that our daughter used which was clean. The room had a good layout for two adults and one child. Our daughter slept on the fold out couch. The parking garage costs $20 per day for parking and seems to have plenty of room. The reason I gave it a four star and not a five star was because only one elevator was working and the workout room did not have AC for the first morning I used it. I also think the shower in our room could have been a bit cleaner but no biggie there. Overall a good experience and we would stay again next year.

Awesome visit from the parking, to the lobby, to the room, the shower, view of the river, especially at night, etc. There was a couple of small concerns: my iron was leaking water all over the place, but I was able to get a replacement. And the remote had no guide, which made it difficult with finding titles to shows that were on. Again just small qualms. Oh, the last night, it seemed like the people above were moving furniture around.

This was my last stop after visiting several major cities on my vacation. I stayed at a Hyatt each time, so I have some experience to compare all of my hotel stays. This place is a great bargain! My room was large and had a small eat in "kitchen" (I did not utilize it) and a rather large couch for relaxing. Huge bathroom and a great view of the city. My only complaint was the TV did not have the ability to Chromecast like it did in several other cities BUT it did have the ability to turn between the bed and the "living room" space. You are stuck with the channels they provide. I didn't spend a lot of time in my hotel because I was sight-seeing, so I can hardly fault anyone for that. My room did hear some noise, mainly from the occupant above me, in the morning. It didn't bother me because I was already up and getting ready for my day and it didn't last long. Quiet times are set around 11PM until the early mornings, and I assume it is enforced because it's mentioned across the hotel. I liked this area because it wasn't as traffic congested and bustling. There's a dog park and a GREAT coffee shop within walking distance. Parking was by far, the cheapest I had experienced at $20 a day compared to the 62/65 in D.C. and Philly I was at previously and you do it yourself. I really enjoyed my time here and would love to visit again!

Great suites with full kitchen and dishes, wash room downstairs but it is 2 dollars to wash and 2 dollars to dry. Parking is VERY TIGHT in the covered garage. I'm paying 5 dollars a day since I am a member, but I think it is 20/day if you're not. Breakfast is OK (but no grits) (I suppose I am in favor of grits instead of oatmeal.) Nice array of choices every morning. There is an exercise room and an indoor heated pool!!!

First stay in a Hyatt in twenty years and this place felt like home. Great location, comfortable clean rooms, nice breakfast, meeting room was spacious, and a super staff especially Ms. Tshidi, even though her favorite guest is still Mason Rudolph, she was super friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I will definitely return.

First time in Pittsburgh. Hyatt member and this was close to the event we were attending. Along the river on one side while out front is plenty of entertainment and food. We were only in for one night, but if the opportunity to return come up we will stay at this Hyatt. Room was great. The last who handled us at checkin was great as was the staff at checkout. Appreciate a simple, straightforward adventure. Thank You, Hyatt House Pittsburgh-South Side.

I've been staying here since 2017.. the rooms were more "fresh" than and now in 2023 needs a little refreshing..Overall clean and I love the location near South Side and close to my daughter's apartment and right on river which is a bonus. Gym was nice and clean and beyond the mattresses feeling a little dated , my biggest issue is that housekeeping is now a luxury you have to ask for in order to receive...I'm sorry all Covids over bring back daily housekeeping,Hyatt House, and stop making consumers/guests pay for corporate cost cutting measures.. at least make it optional... daily housekeeping keeps rooms from getting dingy over time and makes guests feel like well...guests

This hotel was excellent, and that’s from me, who is old and cranky. The young man at the desk the late afternoon of April 7th was friendly and very helpful. The room was spotless. The free breakfast was real breakfast, not a box with some muffins in it. We travel with a small dog, and the hotel put $200 on my card for amenities, so I think that if the dog damaged something (it didn’t), they would take it from that. That’s fair – I would expect to pay for any damages. What I appreciate is that if there are no damages, we don’t pay anything. This is opposed to a recent stay at another hotel, which charged a $50.00 pet fee regardless of any damages. The South Side location was very good – quiet in the evening, and convenient to where we needed to be (Carnegie Mellon University). Parking was excellent – in a garage beneath the building. Finally, I was happy with the cost. Room rate, taxes, fees, and one night of parking for under $200.00. Going forward, we won’t stay anywhere else.

The employees were kind and helpful.I was attending a wedding. The room was ok. The terrace for the wedding service and reception was very nice. The DJ was extremely loud: we were there on a weekend, but business travelers had to be annoyed. I liked the view of the river.

  • 2/5 Darcy G. 1 year ago on Google
Parking was strange. Room layout was strange. The river view was nice. The area was not hospitable. Impossible for anyone to visit because there was no legal parking. The area is deserted and does not seem safe. The sheet of rules we were handed was unnecessary and unpleasant. It made us wonder who their clientele is. We would never stay there again.

Staying in this property was great experience. The location is great, and the neighborhood seems to be safe and decent. The guest room is spacious, clean, and well-appointed. Particularly, it has a full equipped kitchen that provides all essentials you could imagine such as pots and pans, dishes, glasses, utensils, paper towels, etc. Also, this hotel offers free nice breakfast buffet and $20 self parking per night.

First time for us staying at this location... It was perfect. We didn't need the kitchen area for this visit but I can definitely see it being nice to have, especially if you have kids... And there's a full size refrigerator! The location is excellent for walking to entertainment and plenty of restaurants. The hotel has parking onsite with in/out privileges. We will definitely stay here again

The rooms were awesome!! The breakfast was wonderful!! But the head cook.. was very rude!! He shouldn't been out with customers.. he was actually scary.. I asked to if there was a microwave in the dinning room.. because my breakfast was ice cold.. he said nope.!! Only in your room.. and said it more then 3 times to me.. and not in a nice way! He should be in the kitchen and not out with customers. Very mean and rude man!! But everything was absolutely great!! Except that mean guy!! Thank you!!

Clean and large rooms. This hotel is located right on the river. Conveniently located few minutes away from the express and not too far away from the Carson st. Within 5 min walk you can get to at least a dozen restaurants and bars. Huge Oktoberfest type restaurant is adjacent to the hotel in case you don’t feel brave enough to explore. Parking onsite is $20/n but we had not problem parking across the street at a public garage for $15/n Expect a typical Hyatt Place / House continental breakfast. The man that takes care of the breakfast area do make sure everything is out and ready for quests. Hotel also has a small bar which is stocked with basic selection of liquor.

Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were very accommodating. The hotel and facilities were kept clean and it didn't feel used. I'd go back again. It's for sure the best option to stay in Southside.

This hotel was excellent, the front desk is very welcoming and helpful. The free breakfast was very good, and I enjoyed it on the terrace. The view from my room and terrace is good. The hotel is clean and the crib was set up for my son when I arrived.

This was by far the best hotel stay we have ever had! There are only 2 negative things I have about this place and that's the parking garage situation and how they definitely shouldn't be charging $20 a night for what that was and the fridge stunk horribly... other than that so much was within 5 min walking or 10-20 min driving distance. Loved there was a marina and bike trail entrance close by. There's construction going on next door and we barely heard anything. We didn't hear anything from the other guests in the hotel. The rooms were decent sized for a family of 4. The shower was huge and the pressure was superb 👌 👏🏽 finally!! They tried the best they could with breakfast. Pretty similar options to most major hotels and the pool was fine. But my favorite part was the view over looking the river. When I'm back in Pittsburgh this is the only place I want to stay. Sorry I don't have pictures inside the room. I thought I had a video but I can't find it.
