The Cheetham Wetlands is a very large space covering 420 hectares made up of man made and natural lagoons, which was created on old salt works land. The wetlands attract a variety of birdlife. Wheelchair accessible. Good parking. Kid friendly sky. Great for riding a bike. Good walking tracks. Views out over the ocean. Picnic tables and shelter here. Toilets available.

Lovely view from the observation tower especially on a sunny day. There's a carpark right at the entrance to the path towards the tower but it is quite small. There is also a small beach there that also leads to the carpark. Oddly enough spotted two swans there in the ocean.

FANTASTIC PLACE TO GO FOR AOME QUIET RELAXING TIME OR FOR A NICE COUPLES WALK. If you want to escape the busy everyday hussle and bustle this is a quick hideaway where you can take a moment to relax and unwind before getting back to the daily grind. The best part about it all is that Cheetham Wetlands is not far from the Main Street schools shopping centres so if you need a quick getaway to relax this is my Hot tip

A beautiful location to disconnect from the noise of the city and enjoy quality time in nature. There is an awesome track to explore the area by walking or riding a bicycle.

Lovely place to walk and see a wetland and salt marsh with its wildlife. A 1.5 km walk on a wheelchair accessible gravel track from the Car park takes you to the Observation Tower from which there are panoramic views over the salt flats, the wetlands and the surroundings. Over the bay there is an excellent view of central Melbourne with its sky scrapers. Well worth a visit

The wetlands area a part of the coastal area between Altona Meadows and Point Cook. Originally this was a saltworks. As time has passed it is now a part of the extended parkland. You can view the area from atop the 100 Steps to Federation.

I wish there were no fence and we could just walk towards the ocean. But it was still a wonderful little nature spot close to CBD. Little less explored and little more loved!

    * Homestead and Cheetham Wetlands * The Point Cook coastal park, Homestead and Cheetham Wetlands are the well kept secrets of western suburbs tucked away safely on the sides of busy Point Cook road. Take a 3 km diversion from Point Cook road to reach the dusty patch of Homestead on the right. Once you park, it opens up for a nice path meandering through the wetlands to Cheetham observation tower - β€˜A monument to migration and aspiration’. It gives a enchanting view of CBD cityscape. Walk back to the park, then to the hidden beach through a not so used path to beach. It goes through thick trees hosting huge families of birds - do expect a commotion while passing through. The beach - albeit a smaller one offers soothing views and serene walks on both sides. Remember, it’s a natural reserve. Don’t leave anything behind. No fishing allowed.

Best kept secret of the west. Just a short drive from Melbourne and you can be in the thick of nature. Amazing biodiversity here with gum trees, wetlands, salt flats. Huge variety of migrating birds species throughout the year. Excellent for a quick hike or run.
