Over priced small portions. Let me tell you, the food is ok. Yes ok. $24 for a regular portioned extreme rose smelling chicken biriyani , that’s a robbery there. Sour mango lassi for $7. And the chicken tikka masala got no flavor in it. The interior is so tacky. The cheese naan were good though. The appetizers were sooooo small or top the drinks were over priced. $15 for a small lychee mojito.I mean it’s understandable that fancy places will be expensive but please serve enough portions and improve your cooking.

We were for hungry women looking for something delicious to eat. We stumbled across this place because it was right in the vicinity and we were happy we did because the food was delicious. However, when we ordered the food we found out that they charge you for the rice. I have never ever seen any Indian restaurant in Long Island that charges for rice. It was ridiculous I will order was over $85 and we could not have been given any rice with our entree?????? We thought it was absurd. So I went to go and pick up the order I spoke to one of the staff members who stated that Rice does not come with the order. So I'm assuming that when an order is made by phone or when we sit at the table we would not get any rice how absurd is that really. I understand the pandemic has placed a lot of business in the rear however this was really ridiculous. The staff member was pleasant and as I explained to him I have been to many restaurants specifically Indian restaurant where they would gladly serve rice with an entree especially with an order that was $85 or more. I gather he understood how serious this was to us he then decided to give us an order of rice but I informed him we already began cooking up our own rice at home and that it was not necessary. I don't think it should be one should force a staff or a business to give rice to their customers when their order is expected to come with rice. I saw nothing on the menu that said rice was not included. Now I don't know if this only pertains to outgoing orders or seated in the restaurant but I'll tell you what even though the food is not was absolutely delicious we decided it wasn't worth the $6 and we will not be back again. I think this restaurant should really consider putting a smile on their customers face and change their practice of not including rice in each order we ordered four entrees and some appetizers. I will stick with the restaurant that I am familiar with from now on. This was our first time and certainly our last. It may not be a big deal for some people to pay the extra $6 but certainly one should be notified before the customer makes the order that rice is not included. No one should have to be surprised especially when they're hungry. One of the biggest traditions with ordering Indian food is to enjoy the rice with the meal so once again why not serve RICE? So to the owner can you please place on your menu that rice is not included so that no one else would be surprised when they get home with an entree of food and find that's all they have?

We ordered handi biryani- chicken it was a 7 out of 10 and a few chicken starters, the reception was really good and the deserts- gulab jamun, pan ice cream, katta mitta, were all good, the service fee was really high. Vegetarian dishes were also good but not worth the price. Every biryani came with a kind of smoky smell which was not pleasing.

ORDERED 5 VEGETARIAN DISHES. BHINDI MASALA WAS NOT AUTHENTIC. THE RECTANGULAR CONTAINERS WERE HAVING LESS QUANTITY THAN ROUND CONTAINERS. CUSTOMERS ARE ALWAYS IN LOSS BECAUSE OF HIGH PRICE AND LESS QUANTITY. RESTAURANT EMPLOYEES WERE NICE AND COURTEOUS.

We have been ordering takeout since the pandemic hit in March/April of 2020 about 4x a month. Since April of this year the quality of food has changed. The portions of meat in their dishes is almost 1/2 of what it used to be. They need to do better never at & $75/$90 for the 2 people we spend each time, this is ridiculous.

If you are looking for authentic Indian food, class and ambience this is the restaurant to go. The food is delicious the taste stays on your tongue. The flavors are so rich. The place is beautiful and clean. It gives a warm romantic feel. Perfect for a special evening or just a night out. The waiters are attentive without being intrusive and they are very courteous and friendly. Highly recommend.

TLDR: High Expectations, High Prices, Mediocre Food, Mediocre Service, Ridiculously Small Portions. Verdict: Not Recommended Had a family dinner here and although the location itself isn't bad in terms of ambience and seating, the service was not welcoming. Upon arrival, I was told to wait even though I had a reservation..... They said it's extremely busy so they couldn't seat me.... The restaurant was more than half empty (only the party hall was busy because of a party). I was told it was restaurant policy that a minimum of 10 guests must be present before they can let me into the restaurant.... Again, they did not mention this a single time when we had spoken over the phone multiple times prior to me arriving (they even tried justifying this by saying it's common practice and all restaurants do this.... Which restaurant doesn't allow people who have reservations to enter their establishment at the agreed upon time?!) When service finally began and food began coming in, we immediately noticed the small portions and had to order much more than anticipated due to this.... This was unfortunate because the food itself was not even that great (especially considering the price point). Overall, we left regretting the whole experience and decided we would not be coming back.

Yesterday I had dinner with my family at this restaurant. Service & atmosphere was good, music 🎶 is so relaxing, but as I heard a lot about the food in Akbar restaurant, I am not satisfied. I ordered 4 appetizers & 5 entrées. All appetizers was good but main course is average I’m not happy about the food my expectations were not fulfilled as I expected. My overall experience was 3/5.

I just came back home after having a horrible experience at Akbar restaurant and writing this review to make other people aware so that they do not get into similar life threatening situation by getting locked in their tiny cub board size bathroom which had faulty broken lock which was never fixed in first bathroom instead a manual sliding lock is put in place to lock the door. I locked the manual sliding lock but when i tried to open the door the faulty handle locked me from outside and I could not open the bathroom door. And I did not have my cellphone with me. The bathroom is as tiny as a small cupboard with full size wooden doors to ceiling without any space underneath or the adjacent bathroom wall. So basically has no air coming from anywhere. I banged the door with full force with my hands and shoes and shouted for help for about 10 minutes at the same time trying to twist the door lock. No one could hear me as the bathroom had big outside entrance wooden door which was closed as well.In bathroom I was feeling nervous and at the same time shouting for help. I did not give up and kept shouting and hitting the door and moving the lock hard and hard and finally I got the door opened. I went out in tears and told the receptionist about it and immediately one of the server asked OH was it the first bathroom and i said YES . So it looks like that they knew about this first bathroom door issue but no one had fixed the door lock issue. My husband sitting inside was getting worried as well when i did not come back for 10 min and saw my phone on the dining table. The Akbar restaurant lady owner came to bathroom and I told her the entire incidence. All she said "Sorry" and asked the server to look at the faulty bathroom lock and that's it ! It is public safety hazard and the department of buildings should look into it to get the bathrooms compliant. I could have easily fainted inside the bathroom if I had been stuck for few more minutes.

Foods good but there are a bunch of small things left unattended. Food tastes great, and the ambiance is unique. But there’s small maintenance items that make the place look bad. There are weeds growing in the walkway around the building and cracks that make it look old. Catering is on the pricier side so these small things make it feel like it’s not worth the hefty price tag. Overall it’s a nice place for Indian food.

Always the best experience, whether its a dinner night out or having an event hosted at the banquet hall. Sandeep does an amazing job always paying attention to every detail. Every event, from my sweet sixteen to my wedding to now my daughter’s first bday has always been successful and memorable and more to come.

Thanks to a suggestion by a server, I have a new found love for lamb chops and dal halwa. The lamb chops were soft and very moist. All meals tried at this restaurant were amazing. But I return for the lamp chops and now the dessert, dal halwa. This dessert reminds me of a childhood treat which I haven’t been able to place as yet.

Went to Akbar's after a really long time... Our reservation was for 8:45pm and by the time we reached there we were all very hungry so we decided to order the main course with a few veg and a few non-veg options all the dishes including the Lamb Rogan were cooked to perfection...mid way thru dinner we simply could not resist ordering the Kebab platter, glad we did - simply stating it was juicy and delish !! The favorite part about the meal were the fresh and hot Garlic Nana that were being served - yum !! The Kheer and Dal Halwa were a sweet ending to another Perfect meal!! Thank you Lord!!

Hi Felix, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my perspective on Akbar, as it has consistently been one of my favorite restaurants. The service has always been exceptional, with their staff displaying a high level of cooperation. In my numerous visits, I've consistently experienced a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I also appreciate Akbar's policy regarding large gatherings. When my family hosted an event for 18-20 people in the city , they kindly requested punctuality. This is entirely reasonable, as it ensures fairness for the restaurant. For instance, booking a table for 30 and having only 2 guests arrive would put them at a disadvantage. Today, I visited Akbar once again, and I must say, my experience was nothing short of fantastic. The treatment I received from the entire staff was exceptional, and the food was truly outstanding.

Indian restaurant that has survived the times. A favorite for Indians. All delicacies are North Indian foods. Typical tandoori chicken, butter chicken. Lamb curry are all aromatic and tasty. Good for vegetarians as well. Valet parking. Avoid week ends. Party goers crowd the restaurant and it gets crowded.

The food is very delicious and you get plenty for your money. Pricey and worth every penny. The service was excellent and servers all very professional and pleasant. You don't have to worry if you need a refill of whatever you're drinking because the servers will come to you. Could use some new carpet,

Went for a friends college graduation and food was mediocre to say the least and the owner is so cheap that they couldn’t even blast the AC for it was hot and people were sweating . What topped my review was seeing a mice/rat trap behind the bar …. YUCK!!!! After seeing that , my wife and I just were turned off and my colleague who also I met there saw that himself and was disgusted. Sometimes you wonder it’s better to eat a peanut butter jelly sandwich rather than eating at places such as this !

We had a birthday dinner for my husband at Akbar last night, and I can't believe we waited so long to try it. The food was incredible, and the portions were great for sharing a family-style meal with friends. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and helpful in recommending her favorite options. We will definitely be back soon.
