Hiked yesterday (6/28/22) with my family. 2 adults and 3 kiddos (7,7,9). There was a little complaining by my twins on the way up but overall they did fine. Trail was awesome. A lot of roots and rocks on trail so be mindful. View of waterfall was beautiful and exceeded expectations. Pictures just don't do it justice. We had lunch at the top on a boulder (get as close as you can to bottom of falls). Enjoyed the mist from the falls and the nice breeze. Definitely recommend this hike. John Gal Park is really well maintained and staff is very helpful and friendly. We went during the week so parking was fine but on the weekend or have holiday you have to reserve spots in advance because parking is limited. Best hike I've done in NC/SC area.

Not a lot of water off the falls right now, but still worth the hike! About 4 miles out and back from the trail head. Pretty strenuous hike, about 1200ft of elevation gain up the trail. Made it with my brother, mom and nephew (ages 34/57/10)

This is natures amazement and wondrous beauty. Absolutely worth the hike. However, I'd have to say this is not for beginners, toddlers (unless you plan on backpacking/carrying them throughthe stepper areas), or anyone that is not in good health. Also, bring your bug spray.

This is a beautiful place to visit but please be aware there are rattlesnakes. What I was at the top, I went just to the left of the main trail and there he was within a few feet, thankfully I just stopped and apparently didn't threaten him so he just slide away, THANK GOD. BTW it is a good hike, fairly steep actually felt for a minute like I was on an out west trail if you know what I mean...

We hiked to Rainbow Falls on a warm November afternoon. The first mile is relatively flat along the Foothills Trail, but the path is rocky and my wife and I both stumbled a number of times. Once on the Rainbow Falls tail, the elevation starts to steadily rise. Final elevation gain is over 1200 ft. The trail is well maintained with many sections of stairs at various parts of the trail. The views were breaking with some Fall color still very apparent on the trees and ground. The falls are beautiful and is a wonderful reward for your effort! Remember to make your parking reservation in advance.

Gorgeous country. If you are willing and more importantly able to make the trek, do it. There are many different levels of trails to take and the two of us were near 50 and this is rated strenuous... it was a struggle but we made it. Took us 4 hours but if young & in shape shouldn't be more than 3. Bring away least one bottle of water per person.

Awesome, worth it. Trail is not for outshape or beginners. It's very steep, but you can manage. 2-3hrs up depending how much you stop, and about 1 hr down. We stopped to enjoy the views. The trail has great views and bridges over the creek. Like I said worth the sweat.

Hiked with my 8yo son while backpacking/camping at Jones Gap State Park. The falls were stunning. I would have never guessed they were so tall. The hike is doable but does have some serious elevation increases. I wish I would have known how to keep hiking to Pretty Place Chapel.

2mi to trail head and another 2.2mi over 1200ft vertical up to the falls. That's a lot of vertical over a relatively short distance, my ten year old was a champ, and I saw kids that looked as young as seven. Popular, Well worn and well maintained beautiful wooded trail, nothing technical, steps and bridges have been carved out.

Beautiful trail. Some climbing via roots and rocks. Overall very enjoyable.

Such a wonderful and beautiful hike. The second half of the hike once you split off Jones gap and start the rainbow falls trail gets pretty rigorous but, the end of the trial is well worth the hike. Wear water proof shoes or sandals.

Went n a Friday in October and there were very few people. Gorgeous spot. Strenuous hike but totally doable.

This was a great hike! Definitely on the moderately strenuous side on the way up. But the view of the falls is worth it and the hike down is a cinch.

A very nice, well maintained, and frequently used trail. Its rated as moderate but at times can be strenuous. A beautiful reward at the end when you see the waterfall. A spectacular and amazing view! If you get close the mist from the waterfall feels soooooo refreshing, especially after the hike to see it. Also, if you dare to get close enough prepare to get wet! Some folks had their small kids on this trail, but I feel if they're capable then great for them. However, i saw adults struggling on this trail so use your best judgment. Will visit this trail again!

Pictures can't explain how beautiful it is. The hike up to the falls was relaxing and kind if rough once you start the inclines, but once you reach the top its all worth it. I won't spoil the breath taking reaction😊 Just know it's BEAUTIFUL!!!

The park rangers were very friendly and helped explain what trails needed to be taken. The hike was lovely but steep to Rainbow Falls. It was all downhill on the hike back. Definitely bring some water! The hike there was totally worth it though!

The hike proved to be quite exhilarating (bordering on difficult at times) on the way up to the falls. Trails were in excellent condition and very passable. There are excellent places near the falls for picnics or photos. Highly recommend this experience.

👍👍 Drove here to enjoy a packed lunch with an absolutely stunning view! Also, went out to the Bald Rock scenic overlook just before getting to the Cesar's Head overlook. It's so sad that so many people have ruined the natural beauty of this gorgeous place by putting graffiti all over the rock surface....
