Everybody loves when brisket is on the menu...because it makes everything better. This is especially true at HCBC where Tom realizes the power of food and friendly, small-town service to evoke memories, to bring people together, to transport you to another time, and I got to personally experience it last Saturday with some great friends. After a nice afternoon of wine tasting in the area, we searched for a bite to eat before heading back to dreary Portland. And boy did we find a find a pot of gold in the sleepy town of Banks, OR. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the owner Tom's friendly smile and asked us if we ever been there before. Of course, we said no, and he started us on a journey starting with some delicious beer that is brewed on-site. Next, he offered us a BBQ plate that included a potato entree, cornbread and the best BRISKET I've ever had (Seriously, the BEST.) While waiting for our food Tom attended to us with some good conversations around the outdoor fire pit about the history of the place, insights into brewing/BBQ, small world coincidences about him raising his family where we were from and about his wonderful, loving wife of many years that he had recently lost. By the time we left we felt like regulars at our local hangout spot. Whether you are a cyclist, tourist, local, or just passing by I strongly recommend that you drop by Hop Cycle Brewing Company to enjoy and support this amazing establishment. Thanks Tom, we will be back...make sure you have more firewood for us!

Eating here is like having Sunday dinner at my Uncle's farm. Welcoming, no frills, great small batch craft beer, delicious food, and you're 100% made to feel like part of the family. Now, to get to my main point — hands down — the best smoked, wild salmon I have *ever* had. And I've eaten smoked salmon all over the world, from all over of the world. They smoke it in house themselves, and aquire it locally through sustainable wild harvesting sourses. They do other meats too, but I'm not into beef or chicken. However, the other guests said they were notch as well 👌🏻. Oh, and the sweet potato soup. There are no words. You just have to try it. Menu rotates each week with seasonal ingredient availability. So check their Facebook page for current fix'ns. Hopefully this soup and salmon are on the menu when you come. If it is. Don't pass it up. Bottom line — If you're looking for a local place with tasty beer, stellar food, and people that make you feel like you're a human being, Hop Cycle is your must go. Get some.

Everything I've had here has been above and beyond delicious! Smoked meat and fish with homemade and gluten- free sides and bread. Perfect stop after a bike ride or on your way back from the coast!

Loved the pulled pork with kimchi. Perfect level of spice with an IPA

First off, this place is no longer a brewery. It had been a husband and wife team (she the brewer, he the pit master), and she has passed. Tom (the owner) now sources great local beer which he doesn’t readily disclose, offering only by variety (IPA, pils, hazy, porter..) honestly, I liked the purity and simplicity of it. My family of 5 each ordered a brisket plate, and waited a fair while for it, despite the place being not busy. Mixed reviews from them, though I found the brisket terrific. We were all aghast at how small the portions were, however—one slice you couldn’t make a sandwich from. Don’t come hungry or hurried; do enjoy the well curated beers.

Perfect brisket. Scallop potatoes are incredible. Beer made to perfections. Just a quick trip off the 26. Come support your locals.

The brisket is very tender and tasty. I would like to see a little larger portion, but I was pleased overall with the meal.

What a gem of a place! Stopped by for a beer before heading back to Portland and had some of the BEST bbq—the meat was so tender that I didn’t need a knife. Everything was homemade! The beers were great, too!

My hiking partner and I had a wonderful dinner here. I had tried brisket once before (in Austin, TX) but had been less than impressed. The brisket here, however, was phenomenal - melt in your mouth, cut-with-a-fork tender and delicious. The cornbread was great a well. All of this with excellent service in a nice, casual atmosphere and a fire outside. Do yourself a favor and head out this way!
