Must be one of the best BnBs out there. Elizabeth and Selwyn really operate in their genius areas here. The home cooking was absolutely fantastic with nearly everything home made and much of it local to the property. Dinner on the porch outside our suite with a sunset view over the beach was spectacular and so relaxing. Really enjoyed the Kiwi hospitality and travel tips given their deep experiences in the region. By far the best value on our trip as well. Hoping to send more folks their way.

Super meals made by Elizabeth with her array of self creations. Chicken Parmesan, Lamb shanks, baked snapper, pizza, gluten free pistachio chicken are just some. Desserts include lemon gelato, mint choc chip icecream, and chocholate brownie are all made by Elizabeth. Her strawberry jam and other spreads go perfectly with her bread, straight from the oven. Elizabeth and Selwyn are awesome hosts. Thank you for hosting me for the week.

Yesterday we left Christchurch and drove through Arthurs Pass to reach the west coast town of Hokitika. I rarely post about hotels or food but last night we had a unique experience so would like to share. We had the privilege of staying at Awatuna Sunset Lodge. What an amazing experience. From the luxe accomodation to the scrumptious home made cuisine to the scenery of the west coast ocean and local wildlife. We were excited to get an exhilarating ride on "Radar" the amphibious vehicle along the beach and a tour around the property where we saw their lovely gardens and pond and some Wekas going for an afternoon stroll. Dinner was a Fettuccine Bolognese. Everything was made from scratch. Freshly made pasta, sauce made from their freshly ground beef and tomatoes and parsley from the garden. Freshly baked bread rolls and garden salad accompanied this feast. Seconds were definitely had and we followed that with a delicious dessert of brownie cake with home made ice cream. The rum and raisin was like nothing I've tasted. And I'll definitely be comparing everytime I order that anywhere else. With coffee pedigree such as Bar Coluzzi running through her veins, Elizabeth's coffee was just what we needed after a long drive. And there's nothing better than waking up to the smell of fresh coffee. Breakfast was just as delicious as dinner. Eggs and bacon with bread again freshly baked and eggs straight from their chickens. I tried the Awatuna Sunset jams - feijoa, peach and mandarin and orange marmalade - perfect. Selwyn and Elizabeth Meaclem were attentive, great conversationalists, and even gave us suggestions on where to stop on the next leg of our trip . Their attention to detail is why this was such an awesome place to stay and we can't wait to go back .

Fantastic friendly hosts. Made us feel welcome and had everything we needed. Warm comfy bedroom with an extra bed for our adult son. Amazingly presented breakfast including homemade bread and jams. Cooked breakfast. Argon ride through the river and across the beach. Beautiful location even though the weather wasn't the best. Highly recommend for a couple's getaway.

Fabulous B&B, food made from scratch and delicious gluten free options for a coeliac. We enjoyed dinner on the verandah: lamb shanks to die for followed by afogato with home made vanilla ice cream. Freshly baked gluten free bread on the side and with full cooked breakfast. The amphibious buggy was an unexpected bonus! Quiet and peaceful.

This is best BnB! The food is glorious, rooms are spacious and comfortable, amazing spa pool, clean and relaxing. Literally the best accommodation in Hokitika, West Coast, or Aotearoa. Selwyn and Elizabeth are so generous and welcoming. They even whipped out their amphibious vehicle after dinner which allowed us to nip out at sunset to watch local fishermen snag their gurnard. The dolphins even came out for a squizz, which was AMAZING! Totally picturesque location, ideal for beachcombing for driftwood, pounamu, and beautiful rocks on the beach. We couldn't have been more stoked. Awatuna is absolutely worth it and we will recommend this to all of our friends, family, and Google! We were spoiled and only there for one night, it wasn't long enough. Thanks Elizabeth and Selwyn, see you again soon.

Here you will experience the gold-standard of Hospitality and Care. Great Hosts that make you feel at home and comfy in two seconds. Yes it is at the highway but look at the majestic views onto the creek and shore with the smashing waves. And you will get a great breakfast tailored to your wishes plus some nice welcome drinks and Canapés at your arrival evening at 6pm …. What else would you dream of as a stop down the west coast ?

A real treat and a no-brainer, book it now and thank yourself later. We've done our fair share of travel, and it's an easy decision to say that Elizabeth and Selwyn are hands down, the best hosts we've had and went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The sundowner happy hour, dinner, a classic breakfast in the AM, and recommendations around the area made them hosts to remember.

A beautiful place to stay and rest, we only wish we stayed longer to enjoy the scenery and hospitality from the lovely hosts Elizabeth & Selwyn. Great breakfast and evening meals and the pre-dinner drinks was enjoyable to sit and talk to other visitors and the hosts of their travels and experiences. We will definitely stay again. We picked this place due to the location to the beach and the photos and we were not disappointed. Just beautiful - best B&B Lodge we have ever stayed at and great privacy as well as facilities. Thanks from the Aussie Stihl travellers.

Exceptional stay. From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. Elizabeth cooking is amazing, everything she creates is from scratch with fresh ingredients. The bnb is located close enough to all the main sites around Hokitika, the rooms are comfortable, private, each with their own en-suite. We even got to enjoy an impromptu fire stick performance from someone staying with them as well. Highly recommend.

We LOVED our stay with Elizabeth and Selwyn. When asked, yes, you want to ride radar. The food was wonderful, beds were cozy, and hospitality was exceptional. It’s about an hour south of the pancake rocks. Make this your stay while on the West Coast!!

Just excellent in every way. Elizabeth is just so warm and inviting, the views are unbelievable and within 5 mins of being here we were shuffling plans to stay an additional night. The home made bread and excellent coffee just topped off one of the best bed and breakfast experiences I’ve ever had.

It’s hard to know where to start as everything from the time we arrived to the time we left was perfect. Both Elizabeth and Selwyn do everything they can to make your experience amazing. The beautiful touches and gift that Elizabeth put together for our anniversary, the wine and canapés before our dinner and an opportunity to sit down and relax, and being taken down to the beach before dinner was just a few of the many things that made it perfect. Elizabeth is also one incredible cook!! Everything was made from scratch and locally sourced (and in the case of the whitebait personally caught). Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavours - wow!!. Being able to sit outside with a glass of wine, watching the sun go down, followed by a perfect west coast sunset made the experience even more perfect. A beautiful space to sleep and to be able to wake up in the morning and wander through what to the dining area with a freshly made barista coffee waiting and a home cooked breakfast was the perfect ending to our time there. We will most definitely be back ☺️
