Yesterday
we
left
Christchurch
and
drove
through
Arthurs
Pass
to
reach
the
west
coast
town
of
Hokitika.
I
rarely
post
about
hotels
or
food
but
last
night
we
had
a
unique
experience
so
would
like
to
share.
We
had
the
privilege
of
staying
at
Awatuna
Sunset
Lodge.
What
an
amazing
experience.
From
the
luxe
accomodation
to
the
scrumptious
home
made
cuisine
to
the
scenery
of
the
west
coast
ocean
and
local
wildlife.
We
were
excited
to
get
an
exhilarating
ride
on
"Radar"
the
amphibious
vehicle
along
the
beach
and
a
tour
around
the
property
where
we
saw
their
lovely
gardens
and
pond
and
some
Wekas
going
for
an
afternoon
stroll.
Dinner
was
a
Fettuccine
Bolognese.
Everything
was
made
from
scratch.
Freshly
made
pasta,
sauce
made
from
their
freshly
ground
beef
and
tomatoes
and
parsley
from
the
garden.
Freshly
baked
bread
rolls
and
garden
salad
accompanied
this
feast.
Seconds
were
definitely
had
and
we
followed
that
with
a
delicious
dessert
of
brownie
cake
with
home
made
ice
cream.
The
rum
and
raisin
was
like
nothing
I've
tasted.
And
I'll
definitely
be
comparing
everytime
I
order
that
anywhere
else.
With
coffee
pedigree
such
as
Bar
Coluzzi
running
through
her
veins,
Elizabeth's
coffee
was
just
what
we
needed
after
a
long
drive.
And
there's
nothing
better
than
waking
up
to
the
smell
of
fresh
coffee.
Breakfast
was
just
as
delicious
as
dinner.
Eggs
and
bacon
with
bread
again
freshly
baked
and
eggs
straight
from
their
chickens.
I
tried
the
Awatuna
Sunset
jams
-
feijoa,
peach
and
mandarin
and
orange
marmalade
-
perfect.
Selwyn
and
Elizabeth
Meaclem
were
attentive,
great
conversationalists,
and
even
gave
us
suggestions
on
where
to
stop
on
the
next
leg
of
our
trip
.
Their
attention
to
detail
is
why
this
was
such
an
awesome
place
to
stay
and
we
can't
wait
to
go
back
.
