Hey... I was the very first to review this bar. Now, seven years later, after finally adding text, thanks to Google C+ this particular edit has doomed that privilege (/this is a new review/) and i can no longer pretend to be hip. As an aside, I'm also the guy that runs this page and founded this cafe. A rating.... what can I say? If i could change one thing, I would! And I do! Alas, the owner never told me a joke I didn't know already. (Long, long nights spent in front of the mirror. "The only cheese I had to hide my horse was mascarpone." * wait for laughs *). I give this place five stars. Five out of five. Also. Imagine a bar with only clones of anyone that you know. It would be so funny. Also, imagine a bar that tries to be office themed. Cubicles, water coolers and the obligatory puns when getting coffee for the team. Managers with progressively receeding hairlines. Someone stealing your tuna sandwich, and vague company mottos on the wall like "Our Strength Is Acceptable" or "SWOT and Serenity". If you are looking for this office bar, and if you find it, let me know. In the mean while, enjoy the vibe here at the Graanrepubliek in Groningen! I would love to meet you. ❤️

Max is the best bar owner that anyone could ever wish for! The bar atmosphere is amazing and so cozy! The people that work here could easily be your best friends! Just come here and you will understand.

Amazing bar in Groningen, the staff is very friendly and they serve the best Moscow mules in town. Great cozy atmosphere, you will find a quite various panel of people to talk to, play and drink with. Also, there is a substensive amount of books to buy there fore resonable prices. 10/10, has recommended and would recommend again

great bar, amazing music, very queer- and vegan-friendly cafe, the owner made me a sparkly pink beer which tasted amazing and an improvised cocktail which was amazing as well. overall, very nice experience, will come here again

One of a few places in Groningen where it feels like home. Very cozy and lots of books and nowadays some poetry hangs on the walls, made from the poets that go to the café. It's relaxing and has a nice atmosphere. If you don't want something very busy, and feel a bit relaxed, you should come to this café, maybe just for a book to read or play some games upstairs.

Loved this bar. A cute literary Café filled with books to buy or loan. They serve drinks and have plenty of board games to enjoy if not reading. Good for an intimate night out with friends, or to have a chat at the bar. The Playlist was good, too.

A narrow small two floor bar with a very cozy interior. They have a hell lot of books and a good amount of board games to choose from. You can order a drink or two at the bar and enjoy a round of game with your friends or pick a book for a read. A nice place to spend your evening clam and relaxed.

A top bar! Bartender is friendly and easy to talk to, drinks are tasty, and it has a cozy vibe. There is also an interesting choice of literature to choose from: art history to French poetry. I would recommend the second floor to have a sit down.

Graan is a gem of a local spot. It is beloved by students, locals, and visitors alike due to their wide appeal for drinks and study. One awesome feature ( aside from the diverse bar) is the opportunity to bring your own food for maximum enjoyably.

I love this place, there is a an amazing library inside and good about of board games. Also, there are many options for drinks. Let’s not forget about max he is super nice and makes the best suggestions about drinks.
