Updated review: The new change is a big change. The tacos was just okay to me. It reminds me of a limited menu Bakersfield. The churros were not fresh. The Margarita was great and so were the beans and rice. I probably won’t return again except maybe for drinks. Loved the new decor post pandemic. Brian and Gianni were amazing. We loved the service here. The happy hour was great. The mulled wine with smoked cinnamon stick was perfectly spiced and very smooth. The beef slider was my favorite of all the items (and we tried them all). The cheese with the pretzel was good, but the pretzel didn't seem very fresh. I would absolutely return again.

Red crown is now a Mexican restaurant, with a small affordable menu. Tocos, appetizers ($4 Guacamole & chips), and great drink Menu. The service was great and very attentive. I will be going back!

The man that run the restaurant we was very rude with us. I do not recommend it at all. Customers always first. Better for him to learn how to run the restaurant.

Even during these trying COVID times they are maintaining their great service and food quality.

The food was ok but very pricey and very limited menu. They charge for and salsa...separately. Cardinal sin for a Mexican restaurant in my book. Everything was Ala carte...including the chips, salsa and guacamole. Disapointed.

Red Crown offered a fresh and inventive cocktail menu with Mexican inspired drinks leveraging classic tequila with a variety of unique fruit, bitters, and other mixes. (Somewhat over priced $10-14/ drink)Their tacos were delicious, varied meat, vegetarian options high in flavor and made to serve. J highly recommend the taco barbacoa.

Excellent experience especially because of the incredibly friendly service. I sat at the bar and had a wonderful time chatting with the bartender, who made an excellent Mezcal Negroni, and manager. The food is great. Everything I tried was flavorful. I loved the queso, shrimp tostada, & churro bites.

Have to say very disappointed. Was very excited for the change to Mexican but experience was poor. Walked in with the family and asked if we could be seated outside and was told no (others were being sat outside the entire time we were there.) Then asked for a booth, again, was told no. Ended up being sat at a giant table by the bar all bar ourselves. Tacos were nothing special. They weren’t bad, was just expecting a bit more for the price. Ordered classic tacos for the kids but way too spicy for kids. Tortilla chips were made fresh but very greasy. The guacamole was good and that was the only positive.

MOSTLY GLUTEN FREE! The new Red Crown serves Mexican fusion tacos and Mexican influenced drinks. Same great atmosphere, excellent service as always and interesting new takes on the classic taco. We sampled all the tacos and enjoyed each one except the classic taco. The classic taco was very bland, but it may be a good choice for children. The strawberry flan was delish. Definitely a great choice.

Built inside a former oil change place, there is a great vibe here with an energetic atmosphere. The chips were amazing. They had great flavor but didn't naturally come with salsa or anything. Every taco we tried was great, not a bad one in the bunch and churros to end the meal.

We were on a bike tour around Grosse Pointe Park and happened by Red Crown at lunch time on a sunny Sunday. There is a bike rack on site where you can secure your bike. Had a very personable wait person and a perfect table in the shade on the patio. Ordered two brunch items and shared. Although we are not from the GPP area, we will keep Red Crown at the top of the list for a return visit.

Red Crown in Grosse Pointe, MI aims to satisfy and never disappoints! Rereshing brunch spot with a great lineup of dishes which are both light and healthy yet have BIG portions! This is a combination hard to find! My wife and I split the Mushroom Omelette with a side of bacon and Smoked Salmon Benedict. I highly recommend these items! There is no way you can go wrong the morning after a long day on the boat!

Great place. I have been wanting to go here for a while and will be back. Went in on a Friday around 6pm. Patio is first come, first served. We were sat right away. We had the soft pretzels with melted cheese for an appetizer, it was great. I had the Cobb salad and my fiancé had the red crown burger with mixed greens for entrees. Only thing I can complain about is my fiancé didn't care for the dressing on the salad, it was slightly sweet, so I finished it for him. It was a great meal. To drink I had the pomegranate mule which wasn't too sweet. Everything was good. I will be back to try the bbq.

Ate there tonight on the heated patio with our blankets in hand. It was so nice to get out of the house. I tried the brisket tacos tonight and they did not disappoint. Drinks are still wonderfully crafted too! Thank you for being open and still providing a wonderful experience.

I love Red Crown! The patio is so cute and the best part is you can bring your dog - whatever size they are. We brought a Doberman! There are taller, bar height patio tables and shorter tables, too. I ordered a salad this time, and I seriously crave it now. Large portion size, too! Breakfast/brunch is always great here as well. Will be back!!

Food is pretty good. Considering the circumstances, it's understandable.

The service was very good, the atmosphere nice and the food, over priced. We ordered poutine I found to have not enough gravy. My wings still had little feather fuzzies all over all of them. And my collared greens had sand still in it.

Great happy hour. Good pit. Some dishes are a little too over adventurous/ambitous for my taste but the pit is always tasty.

Delicious food and cocktails but I don't understand why the bartender is taking care of all the drinks for the whole place, the food and drinks for bar patrons and the tables in the bar, AND doing carry out orders. Carry out should go to the host. Anyway, get a smoked cocktail...if the bartender has time between carryouts.

Came on a Saturday morning, and it wasn't too crowded. Their chicken and waffles were really good! I've had a few in my life, and this one is definitely up there. I also had a cherry limeade mimosa; very good as well. A bit more$$ than I usually pay for food, but very worth it!

Wanted to love, but it was such a miss :-( the margaritas were either funky or watered down, and when we asked- they said its a keg margarita with soda water added. You would think that a mexican restaurant would at least make their own margaritas… disappointing, we couldn’t drink any of them! Both tacos came cold, and the queso lacked flavor. Guacamole was good but nothing i couldnt make at home. Chips were yummy plain… but overall super sad about the food! We had a great server, but you are better off going to bakersfield or imperial!

Tomato soup tasted like warmed catchup. The Brisket smoke was nasty and it was very dry and chewy. I couldn’t eat it. It was this bad.

  • 5/5 Brendan J. 11 months ago on Google
Let me start by decreeing that it would be a sin not to try their chips and queso. I sat at the bar and ordered tacos for a few $ a pop. They came out quickly, were presented like works of art, and tasted just as good. The ingredients were fresh and authentic. Really pleasant atmosphere and great service. I meant everything I said about the chips. Enjoy!

  • 3/5 Chris D. 10 months ago on Google
Sever was polite, took care of us and food came out quick. Food was bland. Margarita was one of the worst I have ever had, couldn't even finish, and small for the $11 price that it came with. Tacos, for separate people, were all brought out on 1 metal lunch tray. Chips were over fried so they were greasy and falling apart with too much seasoning on them.

They changed their parking to outdoor seating and it was beautiful. Social distancing is in place, our waitress was amazing and the food was wonderful. The vibes were just right for a Sunday morning brunch.

We enjoyed Red Crown and their new revamped mexican restaurant. Sat on the patio and the service was very pleasant. We had the scallop ceviche, barbacoa taco, beef taco, carnitas taco and shrimp toastado. Everything was really tasty, except for the shrimp tostado which was not good at all in our opinion. Our hibiscus collins drink was delicious. Solid performance Red Crown!

Great drinks and great service! Lisa (the manager) is phenomenal! And Lark is absolutely amazing! The BEST bartender, hands down! Can’t say enough great things can’t wait to come back!

As soon as I entered the establishment I was greeted with a warm smile and friendly hello from Andy. Sitting at the bar I was given the utmost care by Lark who informed me of the Friday only fajita special. Who would have known the treat I was in for. Such a lovely meal and way to spend my Friday evening! I will definitely be returning.

It's been a long time since we've eaten at Red Crown. We were excited to order carry out and try the new menu. But disappointed that the only ribs available are now jerk flavored and the brisket has chimichurri sauce, but ordered both anyway as well as the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was good. The grits were not smooth, creamy grits, like grits should be. It was more like really dry couscous and I mean really DRY. The brisket and ribs were average. The baked beans were bland and undercooked. Sad to say it was a 2 star experience. However the staff was very pleasant when ordering and picking up our food.

  • 5/5 Brian D. 3 years ago on Google
Great experience. I really love the social distancing and the care the wait staff shows. Food is great! Although I do wish they had a bigger beer selection but as you see by the stars it's not a deal breaker.

Visited the restaurant for lunch with my family today around 4pm and met a very unpleasant hostess. I guess we didn't belong there. I have been to the restaurant several times and enjoyed all my other visit but I guess there is always one bad one that gets to murk the waters. The waitress assigned to our table was super nice and I left her a tip. If the get rid of the hostess maybe I will give them a 5 star next time😁😁

This place is not what you expect. The managers are bullies...holding others responsible for their mistakes. A friend of mine was recently let go because of the supervisor's incompetence. Made to train others without training pay...and effectively fired because of an immeasurably intense workload. Under the old chef, Michael Keys, she received two pay increases within three months and a guaranteed reference. Every job before this has also given her great references. Under Brian Psenski, her new chef(I use that term loosely because I know real Chefs), day in and day out worked her to the bone. When new hire after new hire left, he just put more on her. Not seeing that her usual itinerary was too intense to train someone in one day. Clearly this is his first time in a leadership position. I would not eat here or even involve myself if you are of African descent. They just look at us as the help to be pushed until we are broken. I've heard time and time again how her task were increased when he should've stepped up to the plate. She has been dedicating her time and has been a model worker. She's never once been written up. They've changed her schedule repeatedly and she's made it work. Even though they agreed upon a set schedule. She did not complain about the constant verbal abuse, temper tantrums, harassment and overall hostile work environment she went through everyday at his hand. How they didn't thank her one time for the extra efforts she put in to help him maintain things. It sounds to me like a setup to give someone unrealistic expectations. Almost as if he was trying to make her quit. People fight in there, smell of marijuana and do "no call, no shows"...and she is fired. Maybe he's upset because he had to walk a mile in her shoes yesterday. Highly unprofessional and I'm surprised since it is owned by the Cotton family. Who they themselves have thrown praises her way for creating new recipes for their business. He didn't even give a reason why. Sent her a email on her day off and couldn't even do it face to face. Told her to come up there on her free time 9-1 p.m. to drop off keys. Instead of 3 p.m. when she was designated to work. Clearly something is amiss here. No sort of proper protocol followed whatsoever. This place obviously loves ignorance in its entirety. They are the epitome of benightness that faces the black community or at least the managers are. I mean a noose was just found down the street and he does this. I'm disgusted at the unprofessionalism I've witnessed and lack of compassion, especially with everything going on in this country right now. I joined the Navy to protect people like him who forget how to be decent human beings. I'm not surprised though. I keep witnessing unjust bigots constantly getting away with crimes against those of color.

Found this place on a lovely warm autumn day so we sat outside. Seating at a good safe distance and the food was Great! Brisket grilled cheese and truffle fries... Amazing. They were setting up a tent when we were there, but it had 4 closed sides, so no safer than indoors. Don't know if they've fixed this problem for covid safety, but if so, the food is worth a ski lodge experience.

Every once in a while, service can get a little slow. But once summer hits and you snag a table outside - so long as it's a nice, warm, sunny day with a beer in hand, life is good.
