Pure Magic throughout this beautiful historic Bed and breakfast! In the grand ballroom they offer partner dance lessons!!! With our room rental we received honorary club membership, granting us access to the private pub downstairs! A hidden gem within this incredible establishment. Truly a one stop shop to house so many different types of events. Wonderful staff & you can't beat the great location, just outside of the downtown area, near Belle Isle.

We just had the most incredible stay here and I’m already hoping to make it back soon! The house is so beautiful and full of historic character, and the staff were all so lovely. Our room was extremely comfortable as well and spotlessly clean. We did a bit of a property tour and I was just so impressed by how beautifully restored everything was— 10/10 recommend staying here! And don’t skip the breakfast, it’s homemade and delicious!

This stately mansion has been lovingly restored. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms had high-end fixtures. The parking was convenient and the property was wonderfully quiet at night. We were there for a family wedding nearby and plan to come back the next time I'm in Detroit for business. Breakfast was in a sunny gazebo area. The Frederick Stearns House is just a ten minute drive to General Motors Headquarters and the rest of downtown Detroit. We also noticed a ballroom that would be nice for a small wedding.

Firstly i cannot say enough praises about the Fredrick- Stearns House. From the attentive service to the breathtaking home itself. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed warmly by the owner and continously impressed by the history and beauty of the home. There are 3 floors and a basement. The home features a speakeasy style cellar basement with den, a ballroom where dance lessons are offered, two sun-rooms one on the north face the other on the south, a cozy library, a marvelous dining hall, an impressive kitchen, a courtyard style garden, among many other rooms and spaces. Our stay was in the beginning of November and Christmas trees were up making the house glow with a warmth that only the holiday season can bring. There are many antique and vintage pictures, rugs, decorations and furniture to behold during your stay. We stayed in the Zinnea room which features a soft and comfortable king sized bed, a fireplace, plenty of sitting room, a marble bathroom, with jacuzzi tub, shower and dry vanity. It was very very comfortable and we said we wished our bedroom at home was like this because we loved it so much. We were able to come and go as we please and explore the house as we please. The speakeasy in the basement is honor system and allows you to make your own cocktails and enjoy the vibe of the bar. Breakfast is served at 8 and is over by 10 and I highly suggest you set your alarm because it is not to be missed! We were offered fresh coffee, oj, fruit, French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage links, and bacon. The chef was sweet and we thanked him for a great meal. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a nice getaway/staycation. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Anniversary & Concert Trip! We came to Detroit to see the Toby Mac/Mercy Me/Zach Williams concert at Little Caesar’s Arena. Celebrating our anniversary, we wanted something more special than a generic hotel. The Frederick Stearns House was perfect! Beautifully restored to turn of the 20th century, the Inn was a wonderful mix of history & modern conveniences. I cannot say enough about the decor. Every turn brought something new to admire—architecture, furniture, artwork… The owner was charming and happily gave us a guided tour when we admired the authentic warming oven in the dining room. We noticed she even “dressed the part”, wearing a flapper-style dress on the first night and art deco blouses after that. We clearly saw how proud she was by her enthusiasm, her care of the Inn and the many small details, like the white-noise maker next to our bed to drown out city noise. We stayed in the Zinnia room which had extra privacy & a luxurious en suite with a deep jacuzzi tub and separate rainfall shower. We were delighted with our choice—especially after discovering the workers at the nearby Casio hotels were on strike! We definitely will be back! Close to LCA, Fox Theater, Windsor, casinos, Ford Field & other attractions.

If I could , I would give this lovely inn a 10! We stayed 5 nights in the Rose Room, so spacious yet very comfortable and cozy. Rachel, the hostess and owner is so gracious and accommodating, she gave us a very informative tour. We enjoyed the speak easy downstairs and looked forward to our wonderful breakfasts each morning. The chef is reason enough to want to stay there. He is so pleasant and his food is delicious. The location was perfect as we were visiting family in Grosse Pointe, but easy reach to uptown for dinner several nights. We will return to the Stearns home when we visit Detroit.

Frederick Stearns House is a lovingly restored gem of a bed and breakfast. The rooms are impeccably decorated with fine furniture and art. The common spaces are well appointed in a classic style that shows off the old mansion. Also a very cool bar in the basement. Parking and access were easy. The owner/host Rachel is very friendly and helpful, she even mailed me an item I accidentally left in the room.

This is a long overdue review as my stay at the Frederick Stearns House was in August of this year (2023). I cannot speak highly enough about the experience we had here. What a beautiful place this is, lovingly restored with respect to the home's era and original glory. The inn owner was kind and knowledgeable and even took the time to show us around and tell us about the history of the house and its restorations. We stayed in the Rose room - a beautiful suite with an incredible bathroom and one of the most comfortable beds we've ever experienced. The breakfast was deliciously prepared and brought to us in the sun room on the main floor. We took a walk in the surrounding neighborhood which was safe and filled with other lovely homes. I HIGHLY recommend The Frederick Stearns House for a trip of any purpose, but especially if traveling (or looking for a staycation) by yourself or with your partner.

I was looking for a unique place to stay while in Detroit for a concert. They had just opened and were extremely accommodating. I was using my wheelchair and they were just learning how to operate the elevator but figured it out. They gave use a wonderful tour and the food was amazing. The history so interesting. I was with a friend but it was romantic too! I would take my husband for sure. Thanks for everything! If I lived there I’d attend holiday events and host things there for sure.

We randomly booked a room at the Frederick Stearns House. We had no idea that it was recently restored! We were awestruck by the work that was done. The owner/restoration contractor checked us in and gave us a tour of the estate. Her love and fascination with the building was contagious. Our room was beautiful and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. The downside is that it's not right downtown, but we will stay here again next time we visit Detroit and uber downtown. It's just a short drive. One good thing about the location is it's just down the street from Pewabic.

Disappointed. I booked this place based on the amazing reviews. My daughter and I came in for a concert. When we arrived, it appeared almost closed. Once we got in, we found out there was a power outage, an no generator. I was a bit concerned as we are in a up and coming are, and we were out of town'ers. I asked if there was any update on the power resolution, the owner had none. I attempted to locate another hotel but due the events, everything within 10 miles was booked. I had just drove 3.5 hours didn't wanna be driving late after the concert end, ( 1am) so we kept the room and prayed power would be restored upon our return. Unfortunately, it was not. The after hours entrance is in the back/ side area of the property, and with no power made it darker. I used the phone flashlight, but that was limited as we had just left a concert and our phones were nearly dead. We enter no problems, get to our room and settle in best we could. AM came, still no power. So, no breakfast. We gather our items to leave, I found the owner in her car charging her phone for us to check out. All of this is not her fault, can't be controlled. My issue is their was No Hospitality. Like no apologies, no call to alert of the issue, no offering of flashlights, no continental breakfast offering, no reducuction of rate. Nothing. All of which would have be excellent service recovery options since as a guest we were inconvenienced. This is all unfortunate as if customer service would have been better would definitely have a better review. Place is gorgeous, bed was comfortable. Service; terrible.

We stayed four nights. The building has been beautifully renovated with exquisite taste. The host was warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The food was nicely prepared, and service was excellent. The room was comfortable, although a little chilly. We could have used a closet or chest for our clothes. I recommend The Frederick Stearns House to all who are traveling for business or pleasure and wants to be close to downtown.

My best friend and I stayed here for the Taylor Swift show and it was perfect. It was so nice to come back to a peaceful, quiet setting afterward! It’s a beautiful place and the owner is so friendly and kind, she gave us a tour of the historic home and taught us so much! Bed was cozy, bathroom was gorgeous and the breakfast in the morning is lovely! I will absolutely be back!

Breathtaking and beautiful! One of the most amazing places I’ve ever spent the night at. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The interior was beautiful decorated. The tour was very informative. Breakfast was wonderful, the chef made an excellent array of dishes. Definitely a good place to stay if your looking for a place a little further from downtown.

My fiance and I stayed here for Valentine's day this year for a romantic getaway, and we could not have been more impressed! The house was so tastefully renovated and furnished. We have stayed at historic inns over the years and a lot of them seemed to use the history to draw you in, but the execution was poor. Everything here during our stay was absolutely fantastic. This was a labor of love for the owner, who was also our host. And believe me she paid attention to every detail. The room was updated with luxury fixtures, every door and piece of trim was both new and authentic to the time period. Solid wood doors, flooring, carpenters wainscoting etc. The furniture was new and expensive. The basement was designed and decorated to look like an old English pub. The food was better than the classy restaurants we ate at in the city. The chef came out and introduced himself and made us an incredible breakfast. The hostess sat with us and chatted about restoring old homes over gourmet coffee. I can't say enough good things about our stay, it was incredible and we will definitely be back in the future.

If you're looking for a luxurious and unique stay in Detroit, I highly recommend checking out the bed and breakfast located in this historic house on Jefferson Ave. From the moment you step inside, you'll be transported back in time to the elegance and charm of a bygone era. The house itself is stunningly beautiful, with intricate details and ornate decor that will take your breath away. We had a wonderful weekend at this beautifully restored inn with so much attention to every detail. We stayed in the Lily room which was very comfortable - king size bed, lots of natural lights, updated bathroom. Breakfast in the sun porch was amazing. Had a drink in the basement pub which is an incredible space. So cozy! The location is great - so close to all that Detroit has to offer but in a quiet and beautiful historic neighborhood. Rachel, the owner, gave us a tour including a history of the home and its renovation. This would be a great place for a family gathering, wedding, corporate event, etc. We'll definitely be back!

We stayed at the Stearns Historic Inn the night before and night of our wedding in October! We rented two rooms, one for the girls to get ready in and one for the guys to get ready in. We rented the Rose suite for the girls, and it was absolutely perfect. It was large and spacious, but also cozy and intimate. I adored the large window and it was perfect for getting our hair & makeup done using plenty of natural light. I also LOVED the large bathroom and jacuzzi tub! It was immaculate and luxurious. There was plenty of room for all of us girls to get ready in the morning of our wedding. The bed was SO comfy, and the fireplace was wonderful. We did our first look and photos around the house and the pictures were a dream. As a historian, I adored all of the beautiful hard work Rachel & her husband put into restoring the home. It is done so masterfully and with detail and comfort in mind. Our stay included breakfast by the amazing chef. Both days I tried something new and both meals were delicious. Rachel & her staff were so accommodating and made our stay there wonderful and memorable. I’m grateful they were able to be a part of our big day and the pictures and memories will last a lifetime.

The Frederick Stearn House Was the perfect choice for getting ready for my daughters wedding day. It Started with an amazing breakfast from chef Shannon, who is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. The amazing rooms and the details in the home added to the elegance of my daughters vintage wedding. The first look on the staircase was breathtaking, The photos around the library, the ballroom, the speakeasy and all the nooks and crannies added to the magic of the Frederick Stearn House and my daughters wedding. Rachel and her staff were terrific and treated us like family. I would not hesitate to recommend them to the highest degree. Everything was 100% perfect.

So glad we found this B&B for our stay in Detroit. Such a beautiful, homey space. The beds felt like they were made of clouds; the breakfast selections were all delicious; top-notch coffee; the staff was helpful and attentive. Beautifully restored home, with an outdoor courtyard, basement pub, cozy main loving room - what a cool space! Close to all the main attractions; Belle Isle, Downtown, Riverwalk, St. Bonaventure's. Will be back!

The architecture and design is beautiful. Actually. More like amazing. I noticed that though most of the patrons there were Black that night, the lady who was running it catered to one single white couple (who were really nice people from Ohio). She asked them were they enjoying themselves, but didn't check in with anyone else. She changed the music that we were all enjoying to Jazz, which I love but it didn't fit the event. She was extremely louder than the performers during their performance and asked a Random Black man if he was a basketball player. Turns out he is a PhD educator. She seemed to have some hang ups about Black folks. I hope she can evolve beyond stereotypes and favoring. Her personality didn't match the beauty of the building. Which is disappointing.

One of the most prestigious places I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying at. The recently completed renovations of this historical building, where no detail was left untouched. The staff the food, service the cleanliness was five star across the board. I am grateful to the proprietor Rachel not only for the restoration, but the attention to detail was extraordinarily overwhelming.. I will definitely recommend this as a place to go while doing any sort of business entertaining or just a visit the city of Detroit everything is within walking distance and the island is not very far away good times all around thank you again for maintaining the historical structure I was extremely impressed. Stayed their for 2 nights. We had a wonderful time. Our room was excellent. Loved the jacuzzi tub. It is a beautiful place to stay and the breakfast was very good. Being close to Indian Village my wife and I took multiple walks around the area and loved looking at the many beautiful and historic homes. Definitely a great bed & breakfast. We will for sure return.

If you want to experience the splendor, grace, and culture of Detroit in the early 1900’s, spend a night at the 120 year old Frederick Sterns historic home on East Jefferson just east of Belle Isle. This upscale bed and breakfast inn that Rachel and Eric Mitchell have restored over the past few years has 20 guest suites, some with a fireplace, and a chef’s kitchen to serve up a specially made hot breakfast. The home’s renovation extends to the lower level lounge where an English pub has been thoughtfully created. The historic Sterns home has a beautiful ballroom that can handle weddings, receptions, and other significant events. Also offered are ballroom dance lessons.

I had the privilege of attending 2 events at the beautifully renovated and restored Frederick Stearns Historic Home. The attention to detail was amazing. It was renovated to protect the structure And integrity of that time period, decorated with exquisite antiques and art. The service And staff were friendly, attentive and accommodating. Rachel, the owner, has done an incredible job in creating a lovely place inside and out as the grounds are impeccably done to show beauty in every season. It is a must see! I can picture corporate events, bridal showers or baby showers, Anniversary parties with dancing in the Grand ballroom , a small wedding or a romantic get-away all happening at the Frederick Stearns Historic House!!

This is a Beautiful old inn decorated with loving care. A lot of work went into the detail of the restoration of this historical inn. It has a beautiful garden designed by the owner. The garden has a lovely sitting area to enjoy a coffee or a cocktail. It is a very peaceful place to relax. The beds are very comfortably, and sheets are soft. The bartender makes a great cocktail, and the owner are very welcoming. You don't want to miss this place if you come to Detroit mi
