Highly recommended. It's free and has the excellent Orozco murals and the temporary exhibits I saw were both strong. Right by the beautiful cathedral too.

One of the many free things to do in Guadalajara. Great museum with a mixture of contemporary and classic art and sculpture. One of the most stunning classical architecture in Guadalajara. As it’s the old university, there’s a lot of graduation ceremonies held there. Definitely add this to one of the places to visit as part of your sightseeing

I am not an artistic person whatsoever, so all I can say is nice building. Small, but for me more than enough art to see

Checked out the museum today and it was worth the visit! It’s free to enter, and you’ll spend about an hour walking around. Most of the art appears to be contemporary except for the mural in the auditorium. There’s a mix of mediums, including audio/video. I really liked the architecture exhibit the most, which features award winning designs from around the world. There’s a gift shop near the entrance.

We went to see the Leonora Carrington exhibition and it was really great! At the moment there is no entry fee just a donation. There were various fascinating exhibitions of different mediums. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting the historical centre of Guadalajara! The shop also has lots of lovely bits for anyone looking for souvenirs!

Opens at 10am sharp. Free entry and safekeeping of bags/jackets. Exhibition on two floors. As a non-native Spanish speaker I could have wished for more English translations of the explanations, but enjoyed the artwork nonetheless.

(Translated by Google) The auditorium is also impressive all the beauty of Tolsa reflected in its vaults, its display of the most outstanding rectors that the university has had. It has several rooms on its two floors that offer us modern and contemporary art galleries. (Original) El paraninfo es impresionante así mismo toda la belleza de Tolsa plasmada en sus bóvedas,su exibidor de los más destacados rectores que a tenido la universidad. A must see in GDL for art lovers. This place is a gem for serious art aficionados. The building itself is an architectural gem. I was so glad that I got to visit this place during my brief stay in GDL. I got exposed to an artist named Leonora Carrington ! I had never heard of her nor recall seeing her artwork in Europe or US. The MUSA was having a special exhibit on her. The museum has very interesting collection from mild to spicy. The building is well maintained and cared for. If I am not mistaken even there was no admission fee!! Thanks MUSA staff and management on job well done.

(Translated by Google) The square to the side is very quiet and is like a shortcut to get to the expiatory where there are many food stalls and gusguera. In the afternoon the sun is very strong but at night it is very beautiful, sometimes there are some cultural events or mini concerts. They have some blanquitas to sit and chat with. It is just two blocks from the red park where the Juarez light rail station is. They can bring pets and have ramps for the disabled. They have fancy and not logical rules if you like to visit. They ask you to turn around your cap for security reason at the entrance. Next guide tells you to take it off. Same for small backpacks. Men need to wear them in the front, but women are allowed to keep their big bags whereever they want. Sounds unreasonable and no one was able to explain. Nevertheless nice art.

We had the opportunity to visit the expo "En casa con mis monstruos" that is about the work and collection of Guillermo García del Toro. At the end of the 2 and half guided tour we were so pleased and happy with all the things we got to see. It is a really vast expo, divided in three, his work, his personal collection and a lot of the art that has inspired him throughout the years. The place looks so pretty and it has the right atmosphère. The guides were nice and helpful and the lobby at the beginning was very cute, overall we were very happy with everything, it's worth seeing and taking the time to see everything.

A mix of contemporary and new era pieces and sculptures. The Frida Khalo exhibit was good.

  • 3/5 Thayne T. 5 years ago on Google
I really enjoyed some parts of the exhibition but some just left me wondering about people, reality and the meaning of existence itself. I mean, what is art anyway? Who decided these were? Jose Clemente Orozco and Rafael Coronel's work as well as an artist that they had no name card nor interpretive sign for but luckily a student helping them knew- Noe Martinez- was decent but the rest was a bunch of 5th grade rubbish if you ask me and best kept in a classroom studying color theory and form. There is a ton of artistic talent in Guadalajara and in Mexico in general but you can't really see it inside this museum, you have to go out onto the streets around it. Look at the buildings. Look at the skin. It seemed like the art professors of the college did quite well in placing their pieces prominently in the collection currently on display though.
