Good Architecture, History and very immersive murals. Recommend visiting the place and it had a guides. Would recommend having guides to know the insides of those murals and paintings. The art museums inside are really good.

I stopped by after learning this was a former orphanage. A tour guide mentioned that kids who didn’t know their parents were given the last name of the orphanage founder. The compound now consists of mostly newer art. Probably would have been more enjoyable with a tour guide, but it’s possible to stroll around on your own and leverage the QR codes. Free admission Tuesdays.

Stunning building and beautiful architecture. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there were not many people. They have a lot of different exhibitions going on there. I really like one with the self portrait. It was stunning and unbelievable. The museum is well maintained and managed. Water bottle and eateries are not allowed.

What a great place to visit ! The tour was very informative, and the professor that was guiding the tour was very interesting. The history lesson behind the murals on the inside of the main building was fantastic. I recommend going around the corner from the main cathedral mural area and checking out the library, they have a fabulous collection of old books that you could look through. I want to move to Guadalajara just so I have access to this surprising collection of fine old books! You pay to enter the complex (free on Tuesday) where we were invited by the professor to include ourselves in a 20 person guided tour of the cistern chapel style murals in the main area, but I spotted the library and took the kids in. One could spend many happy days admiring this collection, Bravo!! There are movies in a theater area on special days that was closed even though we went on a day where you had to pay (did I mention free on Tuesday? ) Their collection of local artists as well as foreign artists is impressive and the grounds inside are very well kept. While walking around with my family , we were amazed by the amount of courtyards and hidden areas in the back. One area just off the main cathedral area with the murals has very clean bathrooms near were we saw our first avocado tree! There were a hundred almost perfect avocados ready to pick! It was tempting but there were all 15 or 20 feet off the ground...When we left we walked out into the big front plaza, where there are a couple of cool modern art areas with human chairs made out of bronze and after passing through that out towards the main market area there was a collection of over a hundred high quality Mexican fabric and leather merchants in a huge building! Best collection of local art, fabric materials and finished products. One of the best half day adventures in Guadalajara!

A striking building, but unfortunately the expos were underdeveloped with too little historical background and context. The building is huge and wonderfully beautiful as its own history piece. I was disappointed in the staff. They were uninterested in helping patrons or making them feel at home in this public cultural space. Due to poor signage, lack of staffing, and the curmudgeon and unhelpful attitude of the present staff, we were more often lost than found. Only after we returned home did we discover we missed (never found) one half of the museum. I'm embarrassed to admit... We somehow missed half of the museum? It's disheartening a public space's value was reduced by resident employees. I expected more pride in one's city, state, and country. For $4 US it was worth seeing one half of the museum.

Really took me by surprise! First museum I visited in GDL. Entry fee was 85 MXN (55 if you have national ID) the oil paintings were all very unique and unlike anything I've ever seen before. A must visit if you are in town, only a 10 minute walk from the city center

Really nice museum with amazing murals. I would only suggest adding some context to certain art pieces since I felt that some art was amazing, but there were no clear and visible info on it. Aside from that, its a great place.

We spent our day here on a casual friday. There was a short line before entering the museum, there is a price difference for locals and tourists. You can't drink or eat during the walk and you must leave all the bags at the start. For the tourist there are 2 tours a day. You can walk yourself through the museum. The museum is very big and is inside an old hospice. They gave the medicines to the people which came from the garden. Without an guide it is very hard to walk it on the correct way, so we went all over and skipped a couple of rooms. The most famous part was very beautiful! You can see the pictures yourself (: If you ask me if this is a must see in Guadalajara I would say no, but still a nice museum if you don't have plans for the day.

The museum is great, has a lot of interesting paintings of Jalisco's artists. The site is quite big. Make sure to go to see murals of Orozco, they are incredible. On Tuesdays the entrance is free. Definitely recommend to visit when you are in Guadalajara!

We traveled with 5 people. We paid at the taquilla per adult and one kid. My purse and backpack were not allowed, too big for their standard. They do have free tags for storage with museum staff,or private lockers for some pesos. We stored our stuff safely with staff and it was an easy pickup. We visited around noon on a Thursday and it was not busy. We took a stroller and the walkways were pretty accessible. We took plenty of pictures and enjoyed our time there. I really liked the QRC code for a history in English and Spanish. So bring your headphones/ airpods. There is a cafe that sells snacks and water because our backpack lunch wasn't allowed. The bathrooms were clean and accessible. I didn't see any baby changing tables, so that was a bummer. We would return again.

Went and saw two large art exhibits and the central cathedral. Everything was very well laid out and was wheelchair accessible with very minimal challenges (it is a pretty linear path). I'd suggest spending some time in the cathedral to absorb the murals. lay on one of the benches and just look up.

The grounds are cool and the building architecture is unique. The Oroscco murals are the reason to go as they are interesting and something I feel one should know about when coming to Guadalajara. Would have like to have heard more about the orphanage stories and the history in more detail about the varying uses of the site.

The main room is amazing, the other galleries are filled with modern art. It is definitely worth visiting simply for the architecture. Large and small courtyards surrounded by classical Spanish walls, fountains, and landscaping.

Stunning building with incredible Orozco murals. Definitely take a guided tour which is included in the admission. Most can not fully appreciate the murals on their own. Our guide Esteban was fantastic!

Wonderful historic building in the downtown area of Guadalajara. Surrounded by huge plaza with inspiring metal sculptures plus several shops and a handful of restaurants. The museum inside features works of famous Mexican muralist Orozco as well as other more contemporary artists. The place is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays feature free admission and during the rest of the week the admission prices are very reasonable. A "must see" during a visit to Guadalajara.

Worth a visit in Guadalajara! Architecturally stunning building with renowned murals in the interior make for an awe inspiring experience. There is written narrative on the murals in both English and Spanish, and more throughout the building by QR code. Only 4 stars because I thought, a a while, building’s space could be more thoughtfully used with additional exhibitions.

A recommended "stop and stare" for every tourist interested in knowing more about visual art & history. You will find representative work from world renowed painter: "Jose Clemente Orzco" inside this place, which also was built with interesting arquitectural details. Art cinema films are also available in the movie theather. Card payment is available, and the staff is very kind.

  • 5/5 Fabian S. 1 year ago on Google
Awesome building, no wonder why is World Heritage. I had the chance to see a temporarily expo about Jose Clemente Orozco’s draws. Very good!

The only reason I gave this museum 4 stars instead of 5 is because I was not fond of the artwork. (Which I did not post pictures of, I preferred the architecture and grounds). Even though the artwork was not to my preference, the audio interpretation was phenomenal and highly recommend listening to it.

One of the oldest buildings in Guadalajara and well preserved. The building is at the end of a long walk area in downtown Guadalajara. You can see it from a distance. It is quite impressive. When you are in you can see the cultural impact it has on the city. The entrance is nice and you see people standing around looking into the open area. I find it very inviting and recommend a visit if you are anywhere near it.
