One of the most beautiful parks I have been to! Very big, green and well maintained. It has a rose garden, big lake where you could ride a boat and many other things to see! Great place for walk and relaxation! It feels amazing in the summer and spring!😊 I would visit again!

A vast, beautiful open-air free park that is a must-visit place in Madrid. There are dozens of different locations inside the park itself which in itself are worth visiting. Out of these places I greatly recommend trying the boats in the lake - great fun, especially with friends. The Cecilio Rodriguez gardens and the Crystal Palace are also great locations for some stunning pictures. Be prepared to spend more than a few hours in the park. I’d even recommend spending a whole day in it, absolutely worth it.

A famous spot you must visit when you come to Madrid with plenty of beautiful areas to relax and meet up with friends. Free to access and easy to get to. A lot nicer in the spring or summer, but still a great spot in the winter.

A magnificent park in Madrid with great energy! There are a lot to see in there like the lake and the crystal palace! But it's working hours is 10:00 to 22:00 (Apr-Sept) and 10:00 to 18:00 in (Oct - Mar) If you go to Madrid, you should definitely visit this amazing park! I should confess that the nights of Madrid are more vibrant than most European cities. Even at 12 am, there are a lot of people on the streets who are cheerful, chatting and having fun energetically! So don't miss visiting this amazing park and for sure you can take amazing photos here! There is a nice lake inside the park as well.

Very nice garden, especially in this cold weather! You can watch shows or drink coffee.. I had a lot of fun trading it around the landmarks of Spain, it's a lot like a lot 🏞 It was open the day it opened due to a holiday. Servise us to visit this great place! I recommend it. ✅👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Madrid 🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸 🔥

El Retiro Park is a tranquil oasis in the heart of Madrid, perfect for a leisurely evening stroll or a relaxing picnic. With its beautiful gardens, scenic paths, and iconic landmarks like the Crystal Palace and Retiro Pond, there's plenty to see and do. Whether you're admiring the colorful blooms, rowing a boat on the pond, or simply enjoying the peaceful ambiance, El Retiro Park offers a delightful escape from the city bustle. Highly recommended for tourists seeking a serene retreat in Madrid. Entrance is free.

Loved this park so much! Beautiful space to go for a stroll, sit and read a book, have a picnic, hang with friends. The crystal palace is beautiful as well as the fountains. Street artists are great entertainers (don’t forget to tip them if you enjoyed them!) and there are cafes scattered around.

This is one of the best spots in Madrid. A huge, open air, free park for everyone to visit. It features water fountains, monuments, sculptures, playgrounds and also little cafes and ice cream shops that make for the best place to stroll around and enjoy a nice day out. There is no toilet paper in the restrooms so be warned. Be ready to walk and get lost in this beautiful place.

Amazing park to chill in the sun (or when it’s too warm, in the shadow). We were here in January and were able to catch some much needed sun. The lake in the middle is nice, you can rent a rowing boat, but the waiting time for a rowing boat can be up to 1.5/2 hours.

Considered one of the main tourist attractions of the city, it houses numerous architectural, sculptural and landscape collections from the 17th to the 21st centuries, including the Monument to Alfonso XII, the Crystal Palace, the Big Pond, the Parterre, the Door of Felipe IV, the Real Astronomical Observatory and the source of the Artichoke; and even earlier, such as the hermitage of San Pelayo and San Isidoro, of Romanesque origin. Probably, my favourite park in the city center. Lovely walks and great statues. Many people doing exercises in the park like running, jogging, skate rolling, using trees with elastic bands, etc. Do not leave the city before walking around and going to the central lake, where you can rent a little boat :)

Gorgeous park. As a nature person, it is by far my favorite place to spend the day in Madrid. Perfect to escape the madness, tourists, and commercialization of centro. Great place to people watch and as a gathering point. Has a crystal palace (that was empty when I visited), a museum, and lake. Stays open until 1:00 am in the summer.

Best place to go if you're looking for a nature within the city. Plus Retiro has been recently added as a UNESCO Heritage (2021), so enjoy the park! You can always find a quiet place to do a picnic with kids. You can also find a public toilet there as well. Enjoy!!

The Buen Retiro Park, Retiro Park or simply El Retiro is one of the largest parks of the city of Madrid, Spain. The park belonged to the Spanish Monarchy until the late 19th century, when it became a public park. In 2021, Buen Retiro Park became part of a combined UNESCO World Heritage Site with Paseo del Prado.

Beautiful park in the middle of Madrid. Good place to walk around and people watch. Tons of different trails, so you really can't get bored. Walked around this park for around an hour before realizing that there's no way I could see the whole park in such a short amount of time.

This is such a wonderful park for you to walk through sit for a picnic visit the flower gardens, or of course, taking a boat ride in the small pond. We were lucky to have a lovely day with wonderful weather. Bought some snacks from nearby market and really enjoyed the visit.

Huge park of over 125 hectares with many features including artificial lake, fountains, pavilions, palaces and landscaped gardens. Took more than an hour to tour the grounds just focusing on key highlights like Crystal Palace and Fountain of the Fallen Angel. Make sense to bring an umbrella in case of strong sun or rain. Use the restrooms when you see them as it may be some distance before you see the next one

This park reminds me of Central Park in NYC, but a smaller version and it’s just as beautiful. I loved walking around here and taking in the various monuments, the large pond surrounded with people and also filled with people on the water. The vibes here were immaculate and if you’re looking to do something in Madrid or just wanting to relax then this is the place to be!

Very nice and relaxing park. A few gorgeous monuments/statues/ponds stationed along the walk. Large area, wide roads. Wear comfortable shoes. This is a big park. Free entry. One of the best free things to do in Madrid. And the best things in life are always free. Enjoy!

What a lovely, romantic, iconic place to be! It was my wife’s first time in Europe, and Spain. She was elated. I had a great time. So many areas to explore. I enjoyed every minute of it. Having several street vendors is the downside. Hope this issue gets regulated by the authorities of the city of Madrid. This place is a gem 💎

This is such a beautiful space in central Madrid. It’s probably not as famous as the New York Central Park, but it certainly felt similar and more cultural. It was nice and peaceful to walk in the morning, in fact it would be nice at anytime of the day. The fountain is gorgeous, and at every turn there was a wonderful surprise - a couple dancing tango, to families enjoying a picnic, to dogs playing. Just stunning! If you want a relaxing day in Madrid, this is the place to be.

El Retiro Park El Retiro Park has become Madrid’s most renowned park since it was first opened to the public in 1868. The park’s official name is Parque del Buen Retiro. Retiro is the most important park in Madrid, and one of the most popular places to visit both for locals and tourists. It's 118 hectares of green space in the very centre of the city. This major urban park was built in the middle of the 17th century to be enjoyed by king Felipe IV. Although the park was partially destroyed during the War of Independence, it recovered its charm and elegance and became public. El Retiro is packed with things to see like monuments, galleries, statues, lakes and magnificent buildings. There are also numerous activities on every day, from yoga, roller-blading, puppet shows, musicians, fortune tellers and stands with food and different objects for sale. Top attractions: Estanque (Lake): The gardens house a large artificial lake where many locals and tourists rent rowboats to explore the “Estanque” or you can hop on a larger boat that goes around the pond. It is very close to the entrance of Puerta de Alcalá. Monument to King Alfonso XII: This enormous monument is located on the edge of the artificial lake and was inaugurated in 1922. On Sundays, musicians normally gather near this landmark to play various instruments. Palacio de Cristal (Crystal Palace): Built in 1887 in a wooded area with a small artificial lake, full of small tortoises, the Crystal Palace houses numerous contemporary exhibitions. When it was built, it was initially used as a greenhouse. Palacio de Velázquez (Velázquez Palace): Located very near the Palacio de Cristal, this art gallery always features temporary art exhibitions and is free to visit: highly recommended for fans of art. Paseo de la Argentina: Also known as the Paseo de las Estatuas (Statue Promenade in English) is a broad promenade with two lines of statues dedicated to Spain’s monarchs. The first statues were commissioned by Ferdinand VI to decorate the Royal Palace. Great for kids El Retiro is not only one of the most visited parts of Madrid, it is also ideal if you are travelling with children. Almost every Saturday and Sunday the puppet theatre offers great shows for kids, actors dress up as cartoon characters, you can take them rowing in the big lake and there are also numerous play and swing sets. Location Between the streets of Alfonso XII and Menéndez Pelayo. Schedule From October to March: 6 am until 10 pm. From April until September: 6 am until midnight. Transport Metro: Retiro, line 2. Bus: 1, 2, 15, 19, 20, 26, 28, 51, 52, 61, 63, 68, 74 and 146. Nearby places Puerta de Alcalá (613 m) Prado Museum (757 m) Naval Museum, Madrid (781 m) Cibeles Palace (809 m) Royal Botanic Garden (816 m)

This park is safe all the time to walk and enjoy! So amazing to have such a safe, huge green space available for Madrid residents! There are gardens, fountains, historic statues, a lake, turtles, swans, a crystal palace... all a lovely respite of peace from busy streets and lives. Performers play music, perform, draw... a wonderful place to visit!

What a fantastic park! There are little streams with bridges and a big lake on which you can rent boats. There is some kind of house with entire class ceiling and glass walls which is stunning too and all the people seemed so calm and relaxed. Where are you going there with children, your dogs, friends or just for a stroll by yourself this park it’s really really nice

Magnificent and expansive park in the Madrid, which is a must visit place during the visit. There are several interesting sections at the park, the best one is near the lake. Water is crystal clean and it offers the opportunity to paddle. The walks can be enjoyed even more by buying cafe or churros at one the many small shops. Great place to chill, enjoy the day or have picnic with friends.

Must visit in Madrid for a family. Some to this park, free entry., Take a boat on rent for 45 minutes, €8 per boat, max 4 people incl children. You will enjoy the boat self ride. Sit in garden; spend some time near glass house and lake in front of it which has lots of turtles and ducks. You can feed them with bread.. Everything is beautiful here. Must visit. Peaceful..✌️

Excellent for an morning or afternoon walk. Very sunny park with a lot of walking/running trails. Perfect for family, friends, couples or even for walking alone. In the park center there is Crystal Palace (free enterance) but there could be a queue for entering. There is also lake with lot of ducks and small boats to rent.

An amazing city park. The best I've visited in Europe. From the moment of seeing the landscaped gardens of The Parterre we were wowed. The statue of King Alfonso XII should have greater fame, there are so many different gardens, architecture, fountains, water features and walkways to be explored. We spent 5 hours and were impressed by so much. Oh, and there are peacocks.

Great park with a beautiful lake in the middle. I recommend to go there right after the Prado Museum. Walk until you reach a rotatory and turn left, your will find the lake in your right. Take a time and walk to the Crystal Palace. If you like, take the opportunity to have a picnic or just relax under the thousands of tree shadows you can find there.

It’s a wonderful place to enjoy a bit of the nature but also you have the option of some small kayaks/ boats at a very affordable price, €6 for 40 minutes (something like that) it’s a nice experience there for a group of friends, or just on your own. Very safe place, I would not recommend to eat food on the small restaurant over there since it’s not fresh and the price it’s high... other than that, it’s nice.

One of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen. Think Central Park in, NYC, but bigger, cleaner, safer, more family friendly, more culture, and Spanish. The Rose garden was just blooming in mid-May. My favorite had to be the peacocks. They were so fun to watch and hear. My nieces love the playgrounds and the boat rides at the lake. It's so safe we even walked the park at dark without any concerns. They even have a free museum in the middle of the park. There were picnics happening everywhere.

We went to Retiro Park for some down time and a relaxing stroll but you can easily spend a couple of hours there. It’s enormous, with 15,000+ trees, sculptures, fountains, lakes and galleries. Even in winter, the gardens are beautiful. We were there in February so we missed out on the spring flower displays and rose gardens but for anyone who is there in the warmer months, the park is a ‘must-see’. Originally built as the royal gardens in the mid 1600s by King Phillip IV, it was reserved for the pleasure and recreation of the Spanish royal family only. Given that it spans over 125 hectares, that’s a lot of square metres per person. Even they must have come to think of it as unnecessarily indulgent because in 1868, it was finally opened to the public. We started by entering through the old city gates, Puerta de Alcala and wandering down the tree and park bench lined avenues to the stunning central lake, Estanque del Retiro, where you can hire a boat or sit around lazily, like we did, listening to a jazz band playing by the lakeside. The other highlight was the fairy-tale like Palacio del Cristal, an enchanting 19th century glass palace which sits beside a small lake and fountain and has free exhibitions from the Reina Sophia. It couldn’t have been more picturesque. One sculpture caught our eye in particular. The Fallen Angel (1878) is the only sculpture where the devil is the main subject. Sculpted in 1878, it was not some strange form of devil worship, but a study of John Milton’s poem Paradise Lost, when Satan is banished from Paradise. Curiously, it stands 666 metres above sea level. If you have time to spare, the Velazquez Palace is worth a visit. Entry is free and it also has temporary art exhibitions. NOTES: Pathways are wide and flat - perfect for small children needing open area to run. Entry is free. We walked from the Gran Via which took us about 10 -15 minutes

Lovely park in the center of Madrid. You'll spend a great Sunday there. Ideal for walks, running or paddling. Look for the statute of "The fallen Angel" and check the latitude (666). Madrid is the only city in the world with a monument to the devil. Don't miss the monument to Alfonso XII and its surrounding. Simply spectacular!

Lovely park, it has everything (statues, forests, lakes and rowboats that can be rented, fountains, museums, gardens including rose gardens, palaces, art exhinitions). The guided segway tour is very good to know all the historical details, in addition to the wonderful experience. It is a must-see destination in Madrid.

Highly recommend visiting this UNESCO world heritage sight. 2-3 -hours to walk the park, or rent an electric scooter and whizz around in 45 minutes to 1 hour. Beautiful park.

Such a beautiful place right in the heart of Madrid. Very nice to visit when the weather is super hot and sunny, because you will feel the freshness of the trees and lakes. The Crystal Palace is placed inside this park, and it's very beautiful as well. The Rose Garden is worth the visit as well.

There are so many different areas to explore in this beautiful park. Theres something for everyone from the wide walkways near the pond and Crystal Palace to the lush quiet areas on the south/west side.

Very very awesome! Huge park with a fantastic crystal palace in the center. Lots of bars inside. Free entry. Perfect place to rest after a long walk or to refresh under the shadows of the trees, considering how hot the city is, especially in the summer

There is sooooo much to see! People working out, tourists, musicians, animals, locals with particular behaviour... it's big enough to spend a whole day I guess.. there were also plenty of playgrounds. Maybe not the coolest, but good enough!

Visited here as part of the segway tour. A worthy park with two key points, the crystal palace and the boat rowing area. The weather was hot but still worth a visit. The line for the boat was long so avoided that even though it was priced rightly at 6€. Worth a visit

"El Parque del Retiro" is a GORGEOUS and BEAUTIFUL place, i love it. Pretty big park, it has vendors inside the park, kiosk, street artist performing inside the park, restaurants, ice cream shops, and two beautiful lakes, one closer to the main entrance in which you can take a boat ride by yourself. The entrance is FREE. You should also know that "El Palacio de Cristal" another popular and famous place is actually inside "El Parque del Retiro" (El Retiro Park). The second lake is by this Crystal palace which is even more beautiful, in this last one you can actually see the ducks and swans. The day i visited the park there was a beautiful black swan that got the attention of everyone. You need at least 3 or 4 hours to see this place completely.

In one word, I can say that it is a park that you can love. With its magnificent view and huge park, it is a place where you can spend a day with peace of mind! I think the day I went was a national holiday, even inside the park was very crowded. But it was amazing. The inside is very nice to hang out with friends. The surrounding is also very beautiful in terms of scenery. Here I leave a photo of the park and the beautiful people I met in the park 🌈❤️

This sprawling park was opened to the public in the 19th century. Before that, and since the 16th century, it was part of the Spanish Monarchy possessions. El Retiro Park ( Park of the Retreat) contains many buildings, monuments, and activities. Almost in its center there is a large artificial lake where you can rent a boat and go rowing across the pond. On the eastern side of the pond, the monument of King Alfonso XII, on his horse, is located in the center of a semi-circular impressive marble colonnade. 5 minutes walking you will happen on another monument of a man on his horse this time in more dramatic mood. this one is for General Martinez Campos, Spain prime minister whose :"revolution" restored the Bourbons to the throne of Spain. South of the pond, Crystal Palace is located. One of the nicest structure in the park. It was inspired by the Crystal palace in London. There are many cafes and restaurants around the pond and near Velasquez Palace where you can rest in a very relaxing ambience. Prices are fair and very reasonable. The prestigious Prado Museum is only 10 minutes walking from the park. Admission fee to the Park: Free. Crystal palace and Velasquez Palace may charge some fees for their exhibitions.

Even though the vegetation is no longer at its most spectacular now in December, you can see it's a charming place with beautiful monuments, fountains and a lake in the middle. The park is spacious so even though it was full of people, we didn't feel it was crowded. The only thing I didn't enjoy is the cafés that gave this beautiful place a cheap and touristy feel. Tip: There are big trouts in the lake so take some fish food woth you :)

A very expansive space with amazing tree lined pathways and places to rest. I feel very comfortable and safe walking alone here. There’s even amazing places to view art. It really is one of Europe’s grandest urban outdoor spots. A nice place to wander around and enjoy nature in the heart of Spain’s bustling capitol.

A beautiful open-air park that is a worth to visit in Madrid. There are many different locations inside the park which are very nice. Plenty of benches around to relax and a nice little lake. It worth trying the boats in the lake - great fun, especially with friends. The Cecilio Rodriguez gardens and the Crystal Palace are also great locations to see. You really need more than a few hours in the park.

Last time I was here was back in 1968 and the place still as awesome and impressive as I remembered, one of my favorite parks in Spain the peace and quiet and the large amounts of vegetation and the beautiful lake can transport you to a peaceful place. It's a shame that nowadays the noise and unwanted scream from large cartoon like character wanting to sell you a photo takes away from the real artist (the musicians) that are playing throughout the park and the beauty of this landmark.

It was a lovely place on our visit to Madrid. It brought us back to the fall mood in the middle of December. We walked the alleys and sat by the trees, enjoying the views and did not notice as half of the day went by. I would come back here many more times on my future visits. It is located close to the Prado museum. It is convenient to complement your visit to the museum with a nice walk. If weather permits, it is a perfect place for a picnic to enjoy a nice pastry or Iberica sandwich. It is something I have in my plans for the future. I think this place can be enjoyed in any season and any time of day. I would love to visit it during sunset and enjoy warm lighting brushing the pond at the park's center. Enjoy!

El Retiro park is the Top place to be whenever you’re in Madrid! A must see place! There is always something going on there. Museums, castles, sport fields, botanical gardens, pet parks and so much more… You can take a boat trip on your own little one or on a big ship (like ferry) with everyone. It is a little line, usually, but worth to wait. Amazing place for whole family or for one to enjoy. You can find the cafes and small stores for snacks and drinks. There are horse rides, buggies and many others to enjoy the ride all around the park. I would recommend to have cash with you as there are singers, poets, painters and animators who accept the tips by cash. Best place for hot summer days.

An incredible city park! It's large, well maintained, and very family friendly. It's great for running, walking, picnics, and dog walking. There are so many areas that are all structured for varying activities and interests. There are play areas for younger kids, green spaces for whatever suits you, and workout areas if that's what you're looking for. All and all I'm very impressed.

Visita imprescindible.

Nice park, but regret spending time here, in the sense that I could have spent more time at El Prado for instance, as this does not seem to me like a unique experience or site. If you must see, you will find many walking paths, verdant scenery, all very nice. There was a book fair while we were there.

A lovely park enjoyed by tourists and madrileños alike. We went in the evening when the weather started to cool. I had wanted to try the boats, but did not see any out at that time. Lots of shady areas, large walkways with plenty of room for all types of pedestrians (bikes, rollerblades, dog walkers, etc). Then we went back another day during the day when the sun was blazing (fortunately I had an umbrella). I wanted to see the rose garden. I think it was too hot for us to appreciate it and it looked as if the roses were passed their prime bloom, not as beautiful as expected but I could tell it was earlier.

It's a beautiful park but not much to see if you don't have too much time in Madrid. The main attraction is the artificial lake, very blue and huge carp, ducks, turtles. I visited Madrid in August of this year (2023) and this was the perfect park to visit in the city centre. There are several tourist attractions, seating areas, ponds and food stands in this park. You can even go kayaking in the main pond. The ponds have several animals in them such as ducks, geese, carp and even turtles. The wooded areas have loads of birds including parakeets, nuthatches, magpies, starlings, blackbirds and loads more! It is an amazing location for those who like nature, birdwatching or walks. I would highly recommend.

Beautiful at any time of the year, but especially in fall with the beauty of the trees, falling leaves, other flora and fauna. It's a wonderful park to walk, rest, read and explore in. There's a man-made lake where the rent row boats. People feed the ducks and fish (huge fish by the way)! Many people have picnics, bike, run or just sit and read. There are public bathrooms and many places to sit down and eat a meal, have tapas, or just tea/coffee. There are a few places to get candy or chips or something to drink as well. A great respite where can just enjoy nature in the center of the city!

Beautiful! Great for long walks. There’s a gorgeous rose garden you can visit with at least 6 different kinds of roses. There’s also a pond with a cool statue, fountains and a glass palace. Unfortunately we could not enter it because it was closed but we managed to make a couple of beautiful pictures because the environment is just really colourful and nice. There’s also a part where a lot of peacocks live. If you’re lucky you get to see the feathers. We spend about two hours in this park. The only thing that I really did not appreciate were the toilets. The park has a couple of public toilets, but they are missing toilet paper, soap and some of them even were missing the seats. If this wasn’t the case, the review would be 5*.

Large park conveniently accessed by public transit. There's a pond where you can rent row boats, several different snack food places, etc. A great place to run, walk or just relax away from the sounds of the busy city. To give you an idea of the size, a run around the park perimeter will be nearly 5km (3 miles).
