Guangzhou zoo was built in 1958 covering an area of 40 hectares. The zoo attracts more than 5 million local and overseas visitors per year. I visited this nicely managed zoo on 17 January 2016 during my sabbatical stay in Guangzhou! Check my instagram profile @profnasr

Guangzhou Zoo is one of the three largest urban zoos in China. With an area of over 42 hectares (103.7 acres), there are more than 4,500 animals of 450 species, including rare animals like giant pandas, south China tigers, lions, golden monkeys, and black-necked cranes. It contains three sightseeing districts: Central Area of mammals, Bird's Paradise, and Panlong Park with about 200 amphibians and reptiles. In addition, many entertainment activities are also provided. As the symbol of China, those cute giant pandas are also known as ‘national treasure’. With the black-white coat, they capture the hearts of all visitors. The Giant Panda House is the most popular place in Guangzhou Zoo. But remember to visit them in the morning, since they are easy to get sleepy after eating enough in the afternoon. Tigers Hill The fierce tigers in the Guangzhou Zoo are kept inside cages. Visitors can have a close visit to the King of the Forest. Lions Hill There are a couple of African lions and two white lions. They eat 6-7.5 kilograms of meat a day. If the lions are fed a few minutes later than their meal time, they will impatiently walk around the cage and growl. After eating and drinking, they usually lie down on the ground and sleep drowsily. It's hard to beat the value of this zoo at only 20rmb for adults, however many parts of the zoo are in need renovation. Thankfully though most of the animals appear to be treated well and are healthy. As is typical in China, expect crowds. Another nice provision for foreigners is that many signs are in English. Overall I'd say at the low cost of admission, it's worth a couple of hours to see the animals, however I wouldn't plan an overseas trip around a visit here. The Red Panda was my personal favorite (called the "Lesser Panda" in the English translated signs), go see them!

A large and well-kept zoo. We spent more than 2 hours in it. If you are already in Guangzhou, you must visit this wonderful zoo. You will see some animals here that you will not see in any other zoo. Access to it is very easy, by subway. I also like the map of the zoo, as it is well marked how to see it.

All thins are ok and there are many kinds of animals, this would be fanstastic for children. But it attributes the animals in places inconveniently, if you follow the instruction, you will have to walk long that would be not suitable for children or the elderly.

Reached 8:07am so not many visitors yet. Suggest taking breakfast before entering as just booths selling tea egg 茶叶蛋 CNY4, sausage, 豆花 and souvenirs. Just in time to watch Little Panda(Red Panda) feeding time. They are so cuteness. Ocean Habitat is NOT open. Giant Panda starts at 9:30am but is super crowded as visitors chasing Panda 星一 movements to take photos, and they keep screaming. There's an amusement park inside the zoo that needs to buy tickets for riding. Admission ticket cost CNY20

Amazing zoo, well organized very clean and well enjoyed Guangzhou Zoo is one of the three largest zoos in China. Founded in 1958 .Among the various national and wildlife parks, Guangzhou Zoo in Guangzhou deserves special mention. Located on Xianlie Road, Guangzhou Zoo in Guangzhou covers an area of 430,000 square meters. The animals inside the zoo are exhibited in different areas according to their types, for example, the insects, reptiles and amphibians, birds, primates, felines, and herbivores. What's more, there are not only rare animals from China such as panda, golden monkey, South China tiger, elk, brow-antlered deer, and black-necked crane, but also those rare animals all over the world such as chimpanzee, giraffe, African elephant, hippopotamus, zebra, rhinoceros, and black swan. The zoo ever successfully reproduced over one hundred species, and managed the first ever breeding of chimpanzee, Asian elephant and giraffe in China. It has multiplied herds of scores of wild animals. There are wheel chairs for the disabled and special passage for wheel chairs inside the memorial hall. At the same time, there are also crutches for aged people and baby carriages and toys for children. The park is also a national base for public education about natural science. If you want to see a world class zoo you would be better to avoid Guangzhou zoo, and instead go to Chimelong Xiangjiang Safari Park, in Panyu District, Guangzhou. Its about 35-40 minutes from central Guangzhou city and can be reached by Metro (Line 3, the Changlong Hanxi Station) or by taxi

It’s ok place to kill some time while in Guangzhou. Tickets cost 20 yuans which is around 2,5 euros. You get to see 2 pandas but it is soooo crowded, hot and loud so visit is very short.

We had a great time in this zoo. Great place to take the kids. Not too busy during weekdays. The zoo is quite large and takes a while to walk around the whole park to see the animals. We would recommend at least half a day if kids, or anyone who walks slowly. There is a giraffe feeding experience for ¥20 which we found worthwhile. There is also a small amusement park inside the zoo for kids who want a little bit more. Plenty of shops inside selling souvenirs at tourist prices.

Guangzhou Metro Line 5 Zoo Station exit, tickets 20 yuan, 65 years old free. As one of the oldest parks in Guangzhou, the ticket price of the zoo is very good, and the price/performance ratio is very high. There are various kinds of animals in the zoo, among which there are very rare animals such as the northeast tiger, panda and white tiger. Recommended visit mainly because of its location in the city center, its price is cheaper than other private zoos, there are a lot of restaurants around it, different grades of consumption, suitable for a family, weekend vacation needs, remember to bring a camera.

(Translated by Google) It is a zoo that is very large and accommodates many kinds of animals. You must spend at least 3-4 hours to enjoy all the sections. Those who want to see the pandas may be disappointed because there are so many hot pandas not going out in summer. (Original) Çok büyük ve çok çeşit hayvanı barındıran bir hayvanat bahçesi. (Translated by Google) Guangzhou Zoo includes many animals such as elephants and giraffes, as well as pandas with some rare animals that are cared for fear of extinction. Tourists can walk around the Guangzhou Zoo on foot and enjoy the opportunity to see the animals in their natural life cycle. Tourists can also try feeding animals and taking commemorative photos alongside animals by approaching them. The garden has a large aquarium with lots of huge fish and dolphins trained to do a lot of acrobatic movements. Awesome zoo. Some of the birds are allowed to walk around which is cool. Make sure to bring water and a fan and try to stay cool, cause you're gonna sweat like a dog otherwise.

Must-visit. Tickets are really expensive. But this place is amazing!!! Worths every RMB I spent. You can feed some animals, see those famous pandas and be bitten by a pony (ouch!!) Also we found a kind of circus somewhere on the territory. There are a lot of food trucks and cafes inside the zoo.

As someone who has visited many zoos and even worked in zoos, I was incredibly disappointed with my experience here. Many of the exhibits were cramped, dirty, and in need of dire updating, with paint peeling off the walls, loose electrical wires, etc. Many guests were feeding animals and banging on the glass or shouting at the animals to get their attention. If you are looking for a fun, interesting, and ethical zoo visit, look elsewhere.
