A historic site filled with colonial architecture & stories of Hong Kong during the early colonial days. An interesting place to visit in Central where history meets art meets food. I highly recommend the free 45-min guided tour, it helps you appreciate & understand the site much better. There is also a modern art building within the compound. Hangout a little longer to enjoy the various restaurants there too.

Paid my first visit to Tai Kwun in almost 2 years and it was a refreshing experience to see so much greenery amid this beautiful historic site. Also checked out their latest exhibition entitled Breathing with Trees with some lovely contemporary artworks and a stunning piece of VR that is definitely worth your time. Will definitely come back more often for photo-taking and exhibition viewing.

In the heart of Central in Hong Kong, combine Art and cultural heritage, awarded for UNESCO Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2019. It was formerly the Central Police Station ,Central Magistracy and the Victoria Prison. It's well displayed in several floors, police museum, court room n cells. I enjoy the visit very much. Yet there are Art exhibition , shops n upscale restaurants on the top floor. Free entry n plenty spaces for picnic or coffee break. Highly recommended. After that, you may walk along Hollywood road to view an old temple n flea market around that area.

One of my top favourite open public realm in HK. A lot of character and unusual juxtaposition of contemporary art elements with a underlay of former hostile captivity. I wish this place could be more thoughtful to get high quality tenancies and more open square activation throughout the year.

Former prison - now cultural, social and all around photogenic centre. Between dining, expos and events you can spend an entire day here. Also, if you love taking photos, don’t miss this place!

Quality Chinese tea serving traditional tea brewing set. Staff will instruct you the recommended brewing time for each tea. Dim sum are all vegetarian, tasty and chic. Healthy and soothing. Chill environment playing traditional Chinese music. Outdoor seating is also nice. Lunch time is usually full. Recommend to reserve a table beforehand.

Beautifully restored historical landmark in Central. The site is very well signed-boarded and the explanation boards are very professional. So glad this place is open to the public, has free admission and has well-curated exhibitions. The volunteers on site are really helpful as well. A great place to spend the weekends. Would highly recommend visiting be it for sightseeing or a fun night out.

Transformed prison made popular tourists spot. You don’t need to pay to get in. There are many shops to explore and bars around to chill. You can also do venue hire here for events as well. They really have quite cool renovations here.

Combining our leisurely stroll along the Central-Mid Level Escalator, we stopped by this cultural center. It houses a free-to-visit prison museum, a prison yard with chairs and tables for a relaxing break, several art exhibition centers, restaurants and many more. We also indulged in a quick coffee break at a cafe inside. The center offers many picturesque spots, including a stunning spiral staircase.

The Old Police Station has been renovated superbly with wonderful restaurants perched around an iconic square. The Old buildings sat below the modern skyline is a great vista for a drop-off drink at one of the classy venues. The old gaol buildings are now a museum open to the public and you can walk through the cells and learn about life in the prison. There are often exhibitions in the precinct and it is a great way to spend the afternoon.

This is a tourists landmark formed by a group of heritage buildings including former police station, prison with exercise yard, court house & administration etc. It's worth spending 1 to 2 hours there and no admission fees is required. Some of the buildings have been renovated and used for commercial purposes like shops, and restaurants. Apart from tourists, it attracts a lot of local people going there for coffee and food.

What used to be the one stop shop for legal, judiciary and penal system operations in Hong Kong is now a beautifully revitalized arts and heritage site. From boutique art stores and cute little tea shops to grand theatrical performances and concerts, Tai Kwen offers it all. A must check out for culture vultures and history buffs when in HK.

The light show here showcases a rich display of local culture and is truly impressive. If you're interested in capturing beautiful photographs, it would be advisable to pick quieter moments to attend, as the show is immensely popular and draws a large number of visitors who thoroughly enjoy it.

A unique place to visit in Central. You can see the old police building and the jail. There were many restaurants for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. It was clean and well maintained. Many washrooms were available.

Fantastic transformation of a historically significant space into a vibrant and cultural environment for one and all. Pick from the array of restaurants (The Chinese Library offered us a very delicious vegetarian meal while our omnivore friends had their meats too) and bars (have fun hunting for the speakeasy 001, shan’t spoil the fun by telling you any more), visit the intact jail cells, mortuary, and enjoy your coffee in a cell (how about a fruity coffee frm On The Hill) If your visit is timed right you might catch an installation or a chamber performance or the annual Christmas light up… or if not just snooze on one of the deck chairs in the prisoner yard.

Free entry even to foreigner on a weekend morning. Free exhibition and historical site for you to take your photos and understand more about the place. Surrounding has some bar for you to get your drinks. Generally a good place to spend about 30min in your itinerary if you're in the area :) Don't have to get tickets, just walk in!

Great place to just walk around and enjoy the architecture and history. Some historical exhibits but not a lot. Rotating modern art exhibitions were good. No admission fees for anything when I went, but that can change with the exhibits.

I was really surprised at how interesting this place was. The old police and prison buildings are well preserved and the information was interesting. Those prison cells are tiny! And looking at those prison uniforms reminded me of old HK movies growing up. It's all free so you can wander around all you like. Try to get a feeling from the old maps and photos of where you are and you'll be amazed at how much Hong Kong has been built from the sea. Well worth a visit for a bit more of Hong Kong history.

A beautiful heritage building which was a former police station and prison. You will get to see how life was for the prisoners in the past. There’s a HK neon signs exhibition when I was there as well although some signs located on the laundry steps were in maintenance so I didn’t get to view them. Enjoyed my short visit at the place although I’m sure I didn’t explore the place fully and have missed out some other exhibitions available as the place is quite big. Overall, will still recommend a visit since it’s conveniently located and it’s free.

Extremely well restored old prison. Lots of eating and drinking options. Some high end dining options available too. Podium area is open, which gives a nice spacious outlook. Some small bars tucked in the inside lanes. Don’t miss to explore all the alleys.

It's an colonial heritage, well preserved and very easy to access. Don't have to book in advance, it's big and able to accommodate many visitors. I appreciate the viewing of prison cells, not from a distance but stand right in front of the gate of each cells, the threshold is so low that a tall visitor might hit his/her head. There are bars and cafes. Do not miss this free of charge tourist attraction.

Art and culture, modern plus heritage, food and beverages, shopping cum chilling out...a gem in the hustle bustle of Central district. A must visit for tourists and locals alike.

The historic building occupying a large plot of land in the heart of the SoHo Central district is a living record of Hong Kong's legal, judicial and criminal system; now hosts 16 revitalized heritage buildings, including the former Central Police Station, Central Prosecutor's Office and Victorian Prison, alongside the Herzog & de Meuron-designed JC Contemporary and JC Cube. Here we can do culinary tours or just take photos.

Central is home to a few amazing attractions - great food, cool bars, amazing art, historical treats - and Tai Kwun - Centre for Heritage and Arts is the jewel in the crown packing all four in what was formerly the Central Police Station Compound. With 16 buildings on the 27,000 square metre site, Hong Kong's largest heritage conservation project completed in 2018 is worth every cent of the HKD3.8B spent. JC Contemporary is one of the best art galleries anywhere showcasing cutting edge contemporary art, Pazta is one of my favourite Italian restaurants - great pasta of course, Dragonfly is a pretty cool bar with a distinctive interior, while the Armoury on the parade ground is a great place to chill - 5-star Tai Kwun has it all.

If you are into instagram or anything for social media this place is for you to explore. But some places need to pay or book tickets. But for me and my friend we just look for spots less people and instagramable look. Here are some of my photos .

Very interesting place. There is a ‘Life in Victoria Prison’ exhibit. It is informative with some interactive slides for you to play with. Currently, there is also a Gender and Space exhibit. It explored women’s experiences - their sufferings, contributions, successes- in Hong Kong for the past couple decades.

First time at tai kwun and great to see the place so well done up and so much greenery . Known to be a heritage site and was a former police station (?) , now converted and kept with some of the old jail cells still available for visiting Since it’s Xmas there’s also very nice decoration and a large Xmas tree in the middle good for photos!

This place is former central police station in central Hong Kong. You can explore the area for free and learn about history of this place and Hong Kong in the past. There are several building and room you can enter but some of them can't. You can take map of the area to explore. They are also have exhibition on first building, restaurant in main yard also souvenir shop here. Popular with younger too because most of this place have some instagenic spot to take photos and the building have vibes of european too. Nice place to chill and visit.

It’s a great place to visit if you love historic place. I love the architecture design and their presentation of hongkong police and armforce history. it’s free of charge and provides tour service for certain time. you can get all the info on their official website easily. The new police headquarters has moved to other place. There are bar and restaurants in the building, and even performances going on during certain days.

Went here on a weekend. If you want to learn more about Hong Kong history or interested in heritage sites in general this should be on your list. There’s also bars and cafes and even a speakeasy located inside the premises, although I did not get to visit them since they were closed. Visit earlier in the day if you’d like to visit the bars and cafes.

Walking through history in this heritage spot. Very educational and eye opening. The way the space has been restored and yet turned into a multi use spot to keep it modernized is very well done. Highly recommend going here.

The prison-change-to-exhibition space is full of history and heritage, like an oasis located in the hustling and bustling city.
