Tai Tam Reservoir

Reservoir

👍👍 Nice place for relaxing or country trail running, there are no extreme elevation at all just relatively flat walking from the gate to the upper dam. Even my 6 yo daughter fells like regular walking not hiking hehe. Bring your paracute jacket because sometimes the wind blow quite strong

This is the northern most of the Tai Tam Reservoirs. It is called the Tai Tam Upper Reservoir. Constructed in 1888 to hold around 300 million gallons of water, this was the first of four reservoirs constructed in the Tai Tam Valley in the area now included in the Tai Tam Country Park. You can visit this reservoir as well as he other three as part of the enjoyable Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail which winds through the valley past each of the lakes as well as 22 different Declared Monuments (e.g. dams, valve houses, pumping stations as well as delightful masonry bridges and aqueduct). It is a nice trail with great scenery and take 2-3 hours to complete depending on how many stops you make for photos.

Come and get out of the road, move into the hills using catchwaters or wilder tracks (follow the little ribbons left by trail runners). You can spend 4 hours alone in the forest at less than 10 kms from Central!

Spent a lovely autumn afternoon walking around the reservoir. Beautiful views and most walks are in the shade. Had such a lovely day out and look forward to our next.
