WARNING NOW CLOSED FOR 3 YEARS FOR RENOVATION Museum is permanently closed for renovation. Security guard says for three years. All exhibits in the basement. Gates to museum compound locked. Adjacent Modern Art museum in compound also closed with workers carrying debris out the front doors and construction lorries in front of both. Trenches dug alongside both and some hoardings up. There is no museum website so no info. All travel guides out of date.

Loved the museum . Very interesting collection of Mayan villagers traditional clothing! The museum is in the same area with the Guatemalan national history museum and modern art museum ! All can be done in one day but check first as I was a little disappointed because the modern art museum is closed for renovations

The museum is super organized and has a great exhibition of the Mayan culture. They have knowledgeable staff explaining the different pieces and making sure everything is taken care off. It's worth to visit to understand other Guatemalan wonders like Tikal and Chichicastenango.

A small sized Meseum, for the history and extend of the Maya Civilisation one would expect more. The sections are very easy to navigate and there are descriptions in English.

Fabulous collection of Mayan Art and history displayed in an exceptional manner. Truly fitting for a king. Really top notch, don't miss it. Friendly staff. My only complaint is that the descriptions are low and require bending over to see them. They also have small print and are hard to read, especially in low light.

I've been to a few Maya museums and they are all different yet so interesting. You might think that seeing one is seeing all of them but this is not the case, again in this museum something new and exciting. I really liked the modeled depictions of the life of Mayas in different life aspects, there is a beautiful mural inside, beautiful textiles and I really liked the art by Mena which ads a beautiful freshness to the museum! Although some areas would need a better lightning, there is a beautiful outside area where you can see some exibits in natural light! It's a clean and a professional place. Keep in mind that the price for foreigners is 60 Q and for locals 5 Q.

This museum is meticulously maintained as is a gem in the crown of Guatemala City. You can spend 10 minutes or 10 days there. The cost is very modest and the employees are very, very helpful. SPECIAL NOTE: some of the fossils and pre-Colombian artifacts are very unique.

I really enjoyed my time in this quiet museum. Many great artifacts from Guatemalan history. He museum has some fantastic exhibits and some awful exhibits, with no Spanish, never mind English information. Worth a visit after seeing the large pyramids and other Maya sites.

(Translated by Google) The excellent place, a lot of history to travel. Only on weekends they close at noon, they should be open all day so that visitors can visit it more slowly. (Original) El lugar excelente, mucha historia para recorrer. Amazing museum. No entrance fee and hardly any visitors. Recently refurbished and close to the airport allowing to swing by once the luggage is checked in.

A great museum just minutes from the airport. If you have extra time before a flight (or can build in an extra hour or two into your plans) it’s a great spot to visit. Not huge, but well done and offers stunning examples of ancient carvings, artifacts, and art including beautiful murals and more recent modern folklore, clothing, and more. Some interpretative signs are in English & Spanish. It was comfortable and not crowded so it was easy to enjoy at your own pace.

(Translated by Google) For the lovers of the history and the Mayan culture, this small museum gives a sample of both, as an introduction it begins with a sample of the arrival of the first inhabitants of America, then expose the preclassic, classic and postclassic period in those that the Mayan culture developed in the territory that we currently know as Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. I leave a photograph of the representation of Grandmother Luna.

(Translated by Google) I have known museums for many years and I think they do not have enough support from the ruling authorities because the changes are minimal, there should be guides, as there are in the National Palace of Culrura, there should also be more interaction supported with technology. Great museum, with Mayan artefacts from multiple sites, primarily around Petén. You could easily spend half a day here, particularly if you've been to one or more of the sites in Petén. There are lots of artefacts from Tikal. Be warned that the museum closes at 1600.

Really nice museum with a large collection of interesting artifacts. The docent led tour was informative and the guide was friendly. We spent about 90 minutes browsing the collection.

This museum you can spend a great chunk of time. Amazing collection of Mayan artifacts as well as preconquest items. The museum is not wheelchair friendly due to building's age. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

It recolets lots of antique pieces. Don't spect it to be Louvre but I recommend all visitors and locals to come and spend some time!

Museum was well laid out and had many interesting artifacts and displays. Because of my limited Spanish I did not get as much out of it as I could have. While there were quite a few english translations oddly enough newer displays seemed to be exclusively Spanish. A good english guidebook would be of great benefit.

Best thing we did in the city so far! Compared to the palace this is 10 times better and much more interesting . Nice mix of artefacts , just missing depth as no real explanation of individual pieces or context.most displays were bilingual too :)

I hate the fact that must of the Mayan stuff was taken to other countries its just unfair how they took what belong to us as a country and as part of our Guatemalan Cultur. The place is good but they shouldn't close for lunch time as they have a few staff members. The just toldeni have to leave today x )

(Translated by Google) The archaeological relics they have are solemn, beautiful in their wealth and for the information they have. Unfortunately, the presentation of some pieces does not have an adequate chronological order or they are mixed with others from other periods. The bad lighting prevents to have a greater enjoyment of the paths of some pieces.
