Beautiful hotel in an older building, but nicely renovated. We had a double room suite on the top floor which was large and well appointed. Only sorry that we stayed one night. The hotel clearly takes security very seriously, but it was not overwhelming. We enjoyed the restaurant, they had a reasonable selection of items and an affordable wine list. The hotel is just two doors down from the US Embassy and it seemed that there were many guests who were working or visiting the embassy.

I visited my friend who was staying here and the place was beautiful!! Very secure, with a guard and the locked gate. Extremely clean, beautifully decorated and a cute little pool to cool off. The staff were very friendly. I will definitely stay here on my next visit to Guatemala City! ;)

Beautiful Hotel loved to hear the history of these old well kept home made into a hotel. This building was built in the 50s as told by some of the very nice heard working staff ladies that help kept the guests happy. I enjoyed very much the history lesson giving by the staff of Hotel San Carlos as well as the very comfortable room & atmosphere. The beds were extremely comfortable. The restrooms are wide & very clean. Wi-Fi in every area of the hotel is a must for me & great for answering e-mails & getting work done. Free Breakfast is a huge plus. The bar drinks are amazingly relaxing & the meals at their dine in restaurant are superb. My husband and I are definitely coming back on our next vacation to Guatemala & bring family & friends.

The hotel is in a convenient location. Walking distance to zones 4,9, and in zone 10. Close to the US Embassy. The hotel is incredibly outdated, and the theme is like a bunch of thrift shop trinkets that don't match or even garage sale clutter. The rugs are old and dirty, so many different themes all over it all just clashes. It even smelled like an old thrift shop. The walls are super duper thin. Bathrooms are desperate for an update. There was a family in the top room next to us that was so noisy we couldn't rest the first night. Kids running nonstop up and down the stairs and through the hallway. It sounded like they were in our room. The view and windows were my favorite parts of the room, and the bed and pillows felt like we were sleeping on a cloud. The rooms are more like apartments, which was pretty cool. The gym is not a gym, just 3 pieces of exercise equipment. The pool is more like a fountain it's very small. We didn't eat in the hotel so I couldn't say anything about the food. However, they did offer welcome drinks and breakfast ( we did not partake). They wanted $50 US for shuttle service to the airport. The airport is about 15 minutes away and costs Q25, which equals about $4 if you take an Uber. Overall, it wasn't the worst it was just okay. I probably wouldn't stay here again. I would definitely visit Guatemala City again. However, next time, I'll stay in zones 9 or a little further down on the other side of zone 10 or 4. Still walking distance

What a lovely hotel! A group of us stayed at Hotel San Carlos two months ago for the night and it was beautiful! The hotel's perfect location is an added benefit if you're flying into Guatemala City airport. Less than 15 minutes aways, Hotel San Carlos offers a unique stay in an elegant, historic, and charming building. The suite and rooms were spacious. The hotel has impressive antique hat and art displays throughout that it almost feels as if you're in a museum. From the spiral staircase to every space in the hotel, you couldn't help but admire the antique paintings and richly gold decorated furniture. Breakfast was delicious. They offered fruit salad, scrambled eggs, fried sweet plantains, bacon, coffee, hot chocolate, oatmeal, etc. Overall, I loved this hotel. Customer service was excellent and everyone was attentive and friendly.

Most comfortable bed and best bedding I had in Guatemala. Polite English-speaking stuff. Free airport shuttle. Great locaction in the safety of Zone 10. Highly recommend.

Bugs in the room (cleaned extra after letting know the front desk) and a lot of noise of planes going over the hotel (not at night). It's a older hotel that have seen better days. The breakfast is a joke (one tea spoon of yoghurt). Wifi is good.

Hotel San Carlos is well maintained and gives an authentic feel of the old Guatemala. Lots of antiques and cute woodwork plus comfortable rooms. True, the pool is only 24 feet by 8 feet, but if you wait your turn it's not bad. The included breakfast was nice, and service is great. Plus I loved sitting on the patio in the center of the mansion. Pretty good.

Amazing service from María José and Claudia. We loved the comfort of the bedding. They arranged an airport shuttle for us without notice. The food was delicious and we ended up extending our stay because of the overall quality of the hotel. Unbelievable experience in a very safe zone of Guatemala City.
