I’m giving this place a 4 star because next to our door entrance was a creepy Christian statue. It’s was super weird in then middle of the night. Also I didn’t like the creepy baby statues. I get it’s a museum but it doesn’t have the first thing I see when I walk in or walk out the door. The open air spa was very nice! Very romantic. I would highly recommend the experience. Although I couldn’t seem to find a unisex steam or dry Sauna. One comment is that when you leave to use the spa through the back Terrance there is no way to lock your doors! So anyone can just walk in. In addition there was no handles to pull the door open. The restaurant staff was very nice. But just know you will be paying New York like prices. Compared food in to the area.

This is definitely the best hotel in Antigua! Words would not do justice to describe it. It is an former monastery with a rustic and elegant style that has no comparison to any place you've seen before. Parking: the hotel has its own underground parking. Don't forget to stamp your parking ticket if you go to the museum, bar or restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: the main entrance has several steps. But the parking lot has ramps for Wheelchair. Service: top customer service Food: great I wouldn't recommend it for kids.

The hotel exceeded my expectations! The room was spotless, and the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. A perfect blend of comfort and hospitality Exceptional service! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Beautiful decor, great amenities, and a prime location. Highly recommend!” Clean and comfortable, but the check-in process was slow, and the staff seemed overwhelmed. Decent for a short stay, but improvements needed.”Fantastic views!

First, in order to appreciate the hotel and its Baroque architecture, you must understand the history and religious cultural aspects of Antigua Guatemala. I truly loved the hotel and all its decor and unique features. I highly recommend it. It’s a one of kind stay. We also enjoyed their cabins in Santo Cielo. Another lovely experience, a bit more private and away from the noisy city. Will be visiting in the future.

Magical, mystical, flower clad oasis with a unique menu full of local delicacies, international choices and delicious coffee. The wait staff was attentive and professional and the atmosphere was ideal. The food was a bit expensive but worth it. A lunch for two was $60.

I absolutely loved my stay at this hotel. We booked through Expedia and had no issues checking in or out. We also booked transportation to and from the airport through the hotel and both trips went smooth. Back to our stay, our room was on the first floor and we had access to a small outdoor area. The room was the perfect size as was the restroom. The closet is a bit small with limited hangers but no biggie. We spent a little while at the pool which has servers coming around and you can order food and drinks. We didn’t really stay much a the hotel during our 4.5 days in Antigua but it was the perfect place to come rest after being out and about. The staff were friendly and attentive at all times and made us feel right at home.

Our local guide took us to Casa Santo on our tour (apparently that is ok), and it was a true highlight. The hotel is a spectacular location, wonderfully restored, and super clean. On every wall, at every turn, there is art to checkout. The food at the hotel is great, and the staff was friendly when we interacted with them. Do go to the back to check out the old cemetery and the chapel (and checkout the Last Supper painting where Jesus and disciples ate tortillas!). They also had parrots for you to take pictures with.

Amazing place to stay if you’re visiting Antigua. The architecture is just magnificent. They restored some of the places of the old convent and it gives you a feeling of being in the past. We where there for a wedding, amazing spot for destination wedding, they decorate everything so pretty and the place makes you feel surrounded by nature and history. They have a spa, didn’t get to visit but reviews are super good. Tuesday’s and Wednesdays they have special prices. The restaurant is absolutely amazing, great local gourmet food. Do recommend booking a shuttle, it’s around 30usd per person, they pick you up at the airport and take you back to the city when you need to. Totally recommend it!

One of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. We each had a different room type. The corner suite attached to the spa being the best of all with a separate living area and fireplace. Beautiful spa with a view of the volcano. Hotel is 10 minute walk to the plaza. A wedding seems to happen every night there due to how scenic the courtyard is. They are very strict on the 3pm check-in, just an FYI.

The hotel is very beautiful, the room was spacious and comfortable. There is complimentary tea coffee and water outside the rooms which was nice. The outdoor spa is lovely, so comfy, beautiful setting, relaxing pools. All in all a lovely stay and we would come back but two comments below- When we went down for breakfast in the am we were told it was a 40 minute wait if we hadn’t booked a table. We should have been told to book breakfast at check in if the hotel cannot guarantee their guests can have breakfast. It was nice to lie at the main pool but a few of the sun loungers were broken and need upgrading.

Great hotel, environment , history and culture PROS: Great history, kudos to the designers and architects who beautifully retained the ruins and built a hotel around it. Decent museums on the premise. If you are a history buff, this is your place. Great room service and other service professionals. CONS: not a great room. We got one of the bad ones. Water leaked from shower two days of the 4 days we stayed. Had to call support at odd hours. Very small patio and not well maintained. The one restaurant on premise has a great ambience, but food is probably average. Handful of items in breakfast buffet is good, but overall slightly average. Summary: May be a higher 3 star or 4 star.

Beautiful hotel - rooms, spa and the grounds were lovely. The one downside was that the bar was closed and took awhile to get a drink from the restaurant, but other than this it was a great retreat after many days hiking. The spa alone was worth the visit.

Oh my goodness - easily the best place in town (Antiqua) if you just want to go that extra mile and dig deeper in your pocket to taste a bit of the good life, the experience is worth it. It is a converted monastery that is a restaurant, hotel and museum all in one. Service, atmosphere and most importantly the food tick all the boxes. This is a gastronomical experience you won’t forget …,a real special treat .

Did a spa day here. Absolutely amazing massage and amazing facilities. Spent all day at the pools, saunas and hot tubs. Great food and great service. Beautiful hotel, worth the time to explore the ruins.

I didn't stay at this hotel. I got a message here and I was able to have access to the spa. My massage was awesome and I was able to relax in the sauna, pool, and Jacuzzi. The ladies are very nice, respectful, and kind. Totally recommend this service and beautiful location.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Terrible service. My husband and I reserved for our first anniversary and were terribly disappointed. The front desk could not give us out keys 10 minutes earlier than the check in time so we had to queue for 30 minutes. They also told us our breakfast was not included… which we had paid for and our reservation evidenced it. After the long queue, we finally went to our room. To our dismay, it was not the room we had paid for as it had two small beds and not a king bed as we had reserved and paid for. After an hour long wait, they gave us a room of a lesser category than we had paid for without a reimbursment for the cheaper room.

Amazing experience overall. The staff was so friendly from the very beginning. The accommodations are very welcoming and clean. Food was outstanding. Cannot emphasize how welcomed we felt from the very first day. Delighted with the overall experience

I came here for a massage and to enjoy the spa. The cleaning staff was still mopping the floor of my service room when the masseuse took me in, the steam room was hardly working and the sauna had seen better days. But the worst part was the service at the reception desk. Before I left, I asked where I could exchange money and because I did not have a room (I had "only" paid for a nice day in the spa), I was not allowed to receive this simple information. It was pretty ridiculous. There are tons of nice places in this city. Choose somewhere else!

Lives up to its high expectations and reputation. One of the most renowned hotels in the country, it is an amazing experience to immerse yourself in the beautiful old and rustic-like buildings of the hotel. Much recommended for business and pleasure stays.

We loved this historic hotel. Spa was very nice. Rooms are classy and just what u expect from this historic hotel. They should offer free breakfast for the high price in antigua.

This is in the top 5 of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever seen, not even just stayed at. The museum is expansive and the options for food are incredible. For those who are looking to eat at El Tenedor, definitely make arrangements in advance. This is one of the most popular restaurants in the country and it fills up quickly. Guests get the opportunity to see sculptures, paintings, grounds, and learn about the history of Guatemalan art. Not only is it a rare and massive collection, but it is stunningly beautiful. Some rooms have access to the spa amenities which are luxe but obviously extra treatments are pay-as-you-go. The staff are extremely accommodating and very kind. Most of the staff speak Spanish and English. Absolutely recommend this spot for your stay in Antigua.

This hotel is really outstanding, so much history surrounding this place. I love all the plants and flowers they have around the terrace. The breakfast was really good with lots of veggie options, the pupusas😍. As for the room, it has everything you need. All the details and amenities are of good quality. This place is also open for tourist to roam around their perimeters.

Very beautiful hotel, nice spacious rooms, amazing environment on the hotel grounds. A bit of a walk from the center of town but not too far. Highly recommend it if you are visiting Antigua, even just to check it out.

I went to the museum within the hotel and it was very nice. Lot of history and facts about yhe building also art. There are about 3 museums in one. There are two crypts to visit very scary so i didnt go down. If you have time visit the Chocolate shop too.

The place is beautiful but: No internet - I had to work at night and wasn’t able to do so. Since we checked in at 3pm they say they will fix the issue within the next hour. The issue wasn’t fix the whole day. I had to leave the hotel and work out of a Starbucks. Spa - please note the only way to use the Spa installation Thursday - Sunday is by getting a massage. Daily pass to use the installation are only available Monday- Wednesday. Service - luggage and door service is good. Check-in, pool, restaurant service are not great. People are nice but they seem that there are a lot of new people and they lack the experience to provide a good service (i.e not knowing how to cancel an item, some directions, delays, etc.) Lastly there was construction on the house (another property) next to our room at 7am so we had to wake up early because of it. Another thing that I found out in other reviews when something is not working they seems to be trained to say (“it’s the entire city problem”). They said the same about the wifi but when I told them I was working with wifi from Starbucks I just got a “ohh…” Overall, I wouldn’t recommend to stay over. You can stop by during the day as it is beautiful but not worth it to stay.

I went for a spa day. I payed 100 USD for a massage of 60 minutes, and it included the whole day for using the jacuzzi, sauna, pool. The jacuzzi is a huge room. The massage was very professional.

If you go to Antigua Guatemala, please stop by this place, is an overwhelming landscape... you'll find a spoonful of history in it's museum and a glance at great architecture in each part of this huge ancestral building. The food was great as well.

Careful!! This hotel charged me unduly after I tried to make a reservation through the hotel's official website. A month ago I made a reservation through the website but the purchase was not completed (the page went offline). I tried again and the same thing happened. Now I was surprised with a double charge on my credit card and I didn't receive any confirmation email. I made a complaint and the hotel did not get back to me! unacceptable conduct for a luxury hotel

Beautiful place with large grounds to wander around. The staff were wonderful and the restaurant was very good. I loved having a fireplace in the room. I also appreciated having coffee available in the morning and x the filtered water. Conveniently located also right in center of Antigua.

Came here for dinner with a friend who was staying here. Everything about it was phenomenal! The atmosphere in the hotel is lovely, and the service was very kind and helpful. Our waitress recommended the Wok dish to us, which is what I ended up ordering. It was delicious! A little pricey, but that is expected at a place like this. I also ordered the brownie with popcorn and ice cream for dessert, which was unique but also very tasty. All around, this hotel was a great experience. Highly recommend going for a meal here!

This hotel is completely overpriced. It does have a great location and the ruins where its located are beautiful. But they gave us a room in which construction workers were working on the roof and when we asked for a room change, nobody apologized and then proceeded to give us a room with mold problems and right next to where the wedding receptions take place. Almost $400 for sleeping bad? No thank you.

This old world convent is a breathtaking hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful and the grounds are beautiful. For the quality you get, it’s well worth the cost to stay here. Highly recommend at least stopping by to see the museums and beautiful grounds if not staying here.

This review is solely based on my experience at the Spa. The staff at check in were not welcoming at all and experienced the same level of mediocre service when leaving. 1. Upon checking in for our couple massage we were 5 minutes early and asked if it was possible to get a coffee was told no because we wouldn’t have enough time as we were waiting an additional 10 minutes to start. They offer you rubber slipper to use at the property but they seemed pretty worn out we declined and used our own. 2. The massage was good, my only complaint during the massage is they would stop for 2-3 minutes to get things and all you hear are the cabinets opening and closing like they’re looking for something but not sure where thing are located. (No complaints against our masseuses, just the process took away from being relaxed.) 3. We stayed for lunch after and finally got that coffee… the waitress felt very cold toward us, just not that level of service you would expect from a “5 star” hotel. The food was good we ordered apps, main course and deserts. The sangria was weak though… 4. When checking out we dealt with the same guy 👎🏽 I had previously paid online before our massage and they couldn’t seem to figure things out, the other lady that started to assist me asked me 3 times if I had paid already, once we closed out our lunch tab, I told them I want to leave a tip for my masseuse after I paid, as I was waiting for the other girl to get me an envelope. The guy asked what else I needed as if I was bothering him or something… 5. Our masseuses were their saving grace, very friendly and welcoming. Actually explained to us the whole process, where things were located and what was included with our spa day. Overall not a very welcoming experience from a highly rated hotel. Now is the place worth a visit? For sure! The property is beautiful, all the other staff we dealt with on property outside of the spa were very friendly, if you’re visiting Antigua I would give them a shot, hopefully you have a better experience.

Room was old, and beds were like a rock. Saving grace of the bathroom was the water pressure, which was spectacular - like being power washed. The grounds are confusing, like a maze. We arrived late and got lost, stopped to ask workers who were hanging around and they ignored us and pretended like we were not there…. Very awkward. Lighting is bad in many places and the ground is uneven, including random small steps - BEWARE of these as I did not see the small step in the veritable darkness (at 10 am mind you) and literally tumbled onto the floor. My husband exclaimed and helped me up and not one worker (of which there are many) noticed? Including the people we had just been speaking to moments before. Employees at reception were helpful and offered to put in a room service order for us, which arrived swiftly and was delicious. I didn’t try the breakfast but it all looked spectacular. Gardens were beautiful and peaceful. All in all, wouldn’t stay here again.

Lovely hotel in Antigua, well located in an historic setting. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and roomy, beds comfortable. Took 1 star off for insulation. We stayed in 3 different rooms, in 3 sections of the hotel. In 2 of them the noise the voices of the neighbors below or aside were to the level you could follow the conversation. Would still recommend 👌

  • 5/5 Cruz J. 1 year ago on Google
The location is beautiful. The history of Antigua is present throughout the grounds and in its art collection. Drinks at the bar and food served were all delicious. However, when checking in we suggest you ask what’s included with your room. Unfortunately we were not given details during our stay and it wasn’t until the 5th day that we found out we had breakfast included. We were also booked in a spa room but were not given details on what was included or access info either. We roamed the grounds and figured it out.. The museums are breathtaking and the staff very courteous and helpful.

This place is an Experience, not just a hotel. If you come here expecting the "hotel" aspect to be the best thing, you will be disappointed. The best thing about this place is how the synergy of it all comes together to produce something utterly unique. You are transported to a different time with modern 21st century amenities. Every piece of furniture, so strategically placed down the hallways, is a relic of a time we only read about in history books. Ruins, that are a stroll away from your bedroom, ready to tell stories of centuries gone by, full of mystery, secrets, tragedies and joys. The staff, ready to assist at the drop of a dime, is a compliment to the experience in itself. The meals are fantastic and fine dining at its best!! I really enjoyed having my country's flag displayed on our table during dinner, a very personal touch. If I had to improve on something, and only if i had to, it would be the check in process. It would have been nice to be directed to where the ammenities were located and what amenities were at your disposal. Perhaps a map of the grounds on your check in or in the room would have been helpful. Fantastic overall experience and kudos to the designers!!

The website and its pictures do not do this place justice! This is a true 5-star hotel experience and can be considered a spa resort. The grounds of the hotel are absolutely massive and so beautiful, and the rooms are just amazing - we stayed in both a double bed room and a suite and were blown away by the space and cleanliness and amenities. The Sunday morning buffet breakfast is not to be missed, and the rooms adjacent to the spa allow full access to the jacuzzi, sauna, and heated pool all of which were incredibly luxurious. Room service was easy and such a treat, and all of the service staff was helpful and friendly. They even exchange foreign currencies at a very good rate - much better than what you'll get at the airport. I hope to come back one day to enjoy it further!

Every time we go to Guatemala, we make sure we visit this hotel and stay at least one night. Their staff is very friendly, their gardens are amazing and at night when they light up the candles it is magical. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 is the room (#266) we were assigned was not what I expected. I booked a suite and while the suite was awesome, it was located right next to a restaurant (not part of the hotel). We were woken up both nights at 2:30 am to furniture being moved around and people talking. This time we were not able to relax as in previous occasions. I wish the hotel would be more transparent on letting guests know that this suite may experience disruptions early in the morning. I highly recommend their spa. Their facitilities are amazing and their staff is great also.

Great hotel, great service. As soon as we arrived, they took our luggage and brought to our room. Very interesting restaurant design like in a cave. Great menu with a wide selection of food. The grounds are amazing with parrots in the trees. The rooms are very nice too with a fireplace and big shower.

Very bad service. Language barrier wasn't an issue as my partner speaks good Spanish. -no one greets you or helps with your bags despite the hotel being huge with many steps - the drinking water in your room is not free, they don't make this obvious. It is free as standard in every other hotel in Guatemala. - very large hotel, they don't tell you where your room is, nor do they tell you where anything is - was told we didn't need to book for dinner. Ended up waiting for 45 mins in a queue for a table. - the answer to every question is "no". Even asking if we could leave our bags by a member of staff in the lobby so we didn't have to drag them to reception and back was a firm no. - at breakfast they didn't tell us what was included and not. Wouldn't even let us sit by the garden but when other guests sat there they didn't move them. - ended up being charged for some pasta that was presented to us as being free. -food and rooms are mediocre All in all a pretty terrible experience. There are much better places. Seems to be run by very junior staff who have too many guests to handle.

This is the first review I’ve ever left and I wish it gave me the option to leave more than 5 stars. This is not my first time staying here but this hotel is truly immaculate. They run a very tight ship and everyone there is trained to make your experience unforgettable. The 5 star dining experience is unlike anywhere else I’ve traveled. I was observing the details of how they serve and anyone who knows fine dining would see they truly made no mistakes. The hotel grounds themselves are so well kept, clean and beautiful. Not to mention the employees are so kind and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. They make it to where you don’t even want to leave the hotel and explore! Lol. I brought my in-laws to Guatemala and they came home so happy and they are already planning their next trip. Also, the rooms are amazing because they really keep the integrity of what the hotel once was, an old monastery, and at the same time, they have the upgrades to make it comfortable. We had three rooms and each one was unique and beautiful. Thank you Hotel Casa Santo Domingo for a truly unforgettable week!!

Absolutely stunning hotel. I love the ruins and how they built around it. Spa rooms are very satisfying if you use the amenities. Nothing too special about the rooms other than being a place to sleep. Which was fine for me bc there's a lot to see and do in Antigua.

A must-see, this is a true destination visit in antigua, Guatemala. Excellent food at reasonable local prices. But it's a preserved colonial architecture that's a must see.

Magnificent historical hotel. The cleanest and most well kept hotel I have ever been in. Reasonably priced compared to US. Lots of contemporary and antique art on desplay. The restaurant has an incredibly beautiful setting, and delicious food. The Spa is fabulous. Next time we will stay in a Spa Room which is closer to the Spa. If you wish, someone will come and fold down your sheets in the evening.

Beautiful hotel, and very pleasant staff. The brunch and breakfast options were very good, and although I didn't have any of the dinner plates, it always smelled delicious. The standard rooms are nice, but the upgrade to suites are definitely a worthwhile upgrade

Hotel Casa Santo Domingo is a breathtaking hotel located in the heart of Antigua, Guatemala. The hotel's architecture is a beautiful blend of colonial and modern styles, which gives it a unique and elegant touch. It kept the colonial ruins inside the hotel and provides museum quality for visitors and hotel guests to enjoy. The staff is incredibly friendly and always available to assist guests with any need they may have. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed, and have all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The hotel's restaurant serves delicious food, and the rooftop bar offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. I was also impressed by the hotel's commitment to preserving the local culture and environment. Overall, I had an amazing experience at Hotel Casa Santo Domingo and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious and authentic experience in Antigua.

Very rude, unpleasant stuff. we used the hotel twice. the first time, despite the opening hours of the pool and the use of the bell at the pool reception, we did not see anyone. the second night we had at the hotel after hiking to the volcano, we arrived at the hotel at 2pm, we were told in a rude way that check in is at 3pm and if we need to take a shower we can do it at the pool, that's the attitude in a 5 star hotel. the jacuzzi was out of order, separated by foil. I highly do not recommend.

Wouldn’t stay here again. A/C was broken and they kept gaslighting us saying that it was a city wide thing. Our friends were staying in another hotel and their a/c was working fine. For the price, there are better options. Stay elsewhere and come look at the grounds if you are interested.
