Our stay at Mayachik was everything we wanted and more! Truly only raving compliments for our stay! The entire property was very in nature and beautiful. Our bungalow was spacious, had an incredible view, and the blankets kept us cozy at night (nights can get a bit chilly in January!). We were impressed by how clean all the rooms and facilities were. We loved the eco-toilets and the general strong commitment to sustainability (not something you see at all hostels/hotels). The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! And THE FOOD - delicious! The menu was quite varied so we were able to eat a different, fresh vegetarian meal each time. Set out of the center of San Juan (but incredibly walkable or reachable by tuk tuk), the location is away from the busy tourist areas so it is much more integrated with local life - which we really appreciated! It was the perfect home base for a relaxing vacation. We walked through San Juan every morning and easily took the boats to different towns around Atitlan. Would definitely recommend for your next stay in Atitlan! Wish we could have stayed even more nights!

I absolutely loved staying here. The bed was very comfortable and the cabin had everything we needed. It was the best sleep I've gotten on this trip. And we could see Indian Nose right from the bed! Bathrooms are kept very clean and the shower is hot and has great pressure. There is a big shared kitchen (only vegetarian cooking allowed), a yoga platform/gym and the most adorable wood fired sauna (book ahead cause it's popular). The food at the restaurant is really good and the portions are huge. Tamales and pupusas are a must, the pizza was also delicious. It does take a while though so don't eat here if you're in a rush. The location is super quiet (if you dont count the roosters). It's a 10min walk from the pier and a tuktuk costs only 5Q pp. The only downside is that not many people walk on the path that leads here and the dogs can get very aggressive. We saw them attack a local man. Personally we preferred to take a tuk tuk rather than walk here because of that. Overall San Juan was a fantastic choice. Much more quiet than San Pedro, very local, with weaving workshops and art galleries lining the streets.

Hotel Mayachik was my favorite accommodation during my 2 weeks in Guatemala. The rooms are large and clean, the grounds are beautiful and natural, plus there is a traditional sauna and yoga/workout area. I didn’t want to leave! The highlight of this place however was definitely the staff, they were so wonderful and lovely. They made us feel at home and even gave me cake for my birthday! All of the food was absolutely delicious, definitely stop by for a meal if you aren’t able to stay.

A fantastic eco hotel equipped with composting toilets, communal kitchen, an on-site restaurant with delicious vegetarian and vegan options as well as a sauna, gym, yoga platform and beautiful gardens with hammocks to relax in. Nicely out of the central hub of town, be careful using Google maps to get there though and make sure the destination is the Mayachik Restaurant!

I was really surprised by this place. It's not the cheapest around, but it's well worth the price. It's that perfect balance between ecologically conscious, without being too hippy. Comfortable without being crazy expensive. The gym was surprisingly stocked and the yoga platform has plenty of mats to use. The wood fired sauna is fantastic and reasonably priced at Q50 for 1.5 hours. They provide a bouquet of herbs to throw on the stones and it really makes the experience special. You know it's authentic because locals rent out the sauna as well and one night we heard some ladies having a temezcal with drumming, copal, and singing. Super cool. The restaurant is tasty and delicious (pupusas and tamals are a fantastic value), and the chocolate for sale is the best we found on the lake. The only negative comment is that there are only 4 outside tables, and two of them are used by staff all day, everyday. There are only 3 hammocks, only one that is placed in a nice location. When we wanted to just read a book, we ended up finding a cafe in town. Also, the kitchen needs a proper restocking. The tea kettle is falling apart, and most of the knifes are chipped or dull.

Great restaurant, super nice to find a fully vegetarian place with good vegan options, healthy, filling food. The property is beautiful, lots of plants, dogs, a cat, hammocks to hang out in, friendly staff, and it follows great eco practices (solar powered shower, compost toilets, etc). I just wouldn't recommend any remote workers (or others who need stable internet) to stay here, the wifi doesn't work with any kind of consistency. Keep in mind that the location is in a village so there will be sounds all night of dogs barking and other wildlife so bring good earplugs if you're a light sleeper. I had to leave my reservation 2 days early because of the lack of internet. The team refunded one night.

The perfect environmentally-friendly resort. Don't expect pure luxury but instead understand that this beautiful place functions off nearly zero environmental impact with the comfort of a peaceful and stunning accommodation with additional perks like a sauna, yoga platform and well-equipped kitchen. Its location, surrounded by soaring mountains and rich forest, is spectacular. The staff are also super kind. Can't beat it!

Mayachik is beautiful!! We stayed for 3 nights and have nothing negative to say about it. Comfortable and relaxing, it is nestled away in nature with stunning mountain views. The staff are friendly and very helpful. They can help you arrange activities such as the Mayan Nose hike. There is a decent kitchen and the vegetarian restaurant provides delicious food. The perfect start to our trip!

We found this little gem by accident and had refras there yesterday and breakfast today. Very pretty and serene and the food was delicious with huge portions. You could easily split a meal. The service was a little uneven, and we had to wait quite a while today but it was a nice opportunity to slow down and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. I would definitely love to come back and stay for a night or more!

We didn't stay in the hotel, but enjoyed a tasty, affordable vegan lunch. The restaurant is quite open, so if you're heading there in the rainy season, maybe take a jumper. I was lucky in that I had a cat warning my lap the whole time. Staff were super friendly. We will be returning to try their other dishes before we leave.

stayed there for 3 nights and loved it, keep recommending it to fellow travelers. the whole setup is beautiful, the 2 bathrooms (showers) in the dorm are huge and they‘re currently building 2 toilets right next to it, so that will make it even better! food was very nice, they were always helpful with vegan options. in general the people working there were mostly locals from what I could gather and there seemed to be a nice atmosphere among all of them, that was infectuous. especially Elvia is a sweetheart and doing a great job! we ended up taking a sunrise stroll to the mirador and I learned so much from her about San Juan and the culture in general. muchas gracias de nuevo Elvia y todo el equipo! abrazos desde El Salvador

Times are changing in San Juan and they are not being kind to the little hotels in 2023. Construction is all around, and the sound of trucks and barking dogs echoes over the lake. Once this little place just outside of town was peaceful, a nice spot to relax, use the sauna, but now the town has grown to meet it. It does not feel like nature any longer. We stayed in a bungalow for 2 nights. Both days awakened at 7 to the sound of hammering cement beside our heads. The yoga platform is covered with drying laundry and building material. Surely this work will go on for awhile, this is being posted in March. The room was clean, and the place is safe, and relatively cheap for the area. Still a good place for backpackers or budget travelers. Not recommended for anyone looking for relaxation.

I really wanted to give 5 stars, but I could not in the end I have to be honest and for now it is 3 stars. It is ok because even if I thought this place is amazing and I love how they are experimenting with new environmental techniques, there are certain things which did not work and I hope they are going to fix it. The most important thing for a guest is to feel at home and be able to wind down and relax. So I loved the shared kitchen and the common areas under the thatched roofs with outlets to charge the phone and light, also the hammocks and even the space to exercise… I was in the hammock and I could smell a few times a strong whiff of compost… urgh. I did yoga in the morning and the same! Also sitting at one of the outside tables. And on top of this when they clean at any time of the day the compost smell was replaced by a strong chlorine smell… I understand they clean but between compost and cleaning stuff I really felt quite under attack. Don’t think I would stay another day. I really could not relax. Also the vegetation is so thick that there is no air circulation and this is maybe why the doors linger for so long. They should prune a bit. It is cold and humid at night because sun does not shine through the thick canopy. I agree this is not their fault but they could tend to the garden a little more. And find a better place to put their compost! One star less for the ofors and one star less for the trash that lies around. Maybe people here are so used to see trash in the nature that they don’t see it anymore. Well for us travellers it hurts to see so much trash lying around. They should lead by example if they want to be eco 😳 I did not eat in the restaurant but it looks yummy!

My partner and I spent a few nights at Eco Hotel MayAchik and really enjoyed it. The hotel is located a good 10-15 min walk from the lancha and the main streets, making it a very relaxing place to go back to after touring around the lake. Mind you, the walk from the lancha is fairly uphill, so if you have a heavy backpacks you might consider taking a tuk tuk (10Q pp). The rooms are surrounded by a big garden on more levels, with hammocks and plenty of tables to chill or eat your food. The shared bathrooms and showers are super clean and work perfectly. It was really nice to see eco toilets working so well and being kept so clean by the customers and staff alike! The shared kitchen is well equipped, so you can cook your own food. There restaurant has some good vegetarian options, and makes good coffee and cakes (we loved the banana bread). There is also a small sauna, which we totally recommend! Nice vibe, nice staff. Only little downside (probably of San Juan in general) is the amount of wild dogs alla round that bark at night non stop, and which we could hear very well from our room.

Really nice place with a good restaurant, a fully equipped kitchen, hot showers and a temezcal (100q). Breakfast ist not included, but water is free. The staff ist really helpful when it comes to planning tours etc. It's really not much of a walk from the busiest area of San Juan an the are is nice and green. Would recommend this place and stay there again.

I wanted to stay in San Marcos but everything was full so I ended up in Mayachik. First San Juan was the perfect place, more authentic and calm. Then Mayachik was really amazing! Really eco, really chill. I liked how the owner treats all the workers, everyone looks so happy there. Maybe just the food could be a bit better, portions were really big but taste was just ok :)

This is place is absolutely disgusting and the service was not accommodating to all of the issues we encountered. There were bed bugs in my friend’s cabin, there was hair and cum stains on our blankets, our room smelled like urine because of the compost toilets. They seemed annoyed with us because we complained. My friend asked to have 3 of her items washed that touched the bed with the bed bugs and they didn’t even offer to pay for this. After asking for them to cover the cost, they agreed to wash it for free, but my friend had to pay to dry it if she wanted the dryer. The only reason she was washing it in the first place is because there were bed bugs in her room. I would think the minimal accommodation would be to wash her things after being in a room infested with bed bugs.

My partner and I stayed here for a couple nights in a bungalow. I was a little concerned with the compost toilet inside the room and the potential smell, but this was no issue at all. The hotel is almost completely sustainable, for example reusing grey water for watering non-edible garden plants and giving recycling to women in town who then re-sell for some extra money. The property is beautiful, with so many gorgeous plants and flowers. The food was delicious and we felt so cared for by everyone there. We also did the sauna, an incredible, rejuvenating experience. Yes, it is a little walk from town, but totally doable. We actually walked there from San Pedro, with our stuff! Of course, taking a tuk tuk is also an easy and accessible option. The owner was very sweet and accommodating to our requests and questions. We have a found a new friend in her and good memories from this place.

One of my favourite places at the lake. The dorm is huge and you have to showers in the room. Own kitchen and also a restaurants. A place to come down and relax. Thanks a lot.

As we were traveling we forgot to rate you on Airbnb, and we felt bad about it. This place deserve 10 stars out of 5. Best place we stayed in Guatemala. Beautiful bedroom (maraquita), calm, cosy, the people working there are so friendly, nice. The food they cook is really really yummy. Make yourself a favour and stay there if you go to San Juan la Laguna. Thousand Thank you for the good time. Thomas and Aimeline (We stayed there the first week of March 2022)

Ok place: the hotel is surrounded by nature, the rooms are cozy and have great views, the local staff is very kind and the restaurant serves great food portions. However, the hotel is located 15-20min away from town uphill, and you have to get used to the “eco” part of it: shared dry toilets, bugs in your room (woke up to a giant spider last night), dogs and howls making noise in the middle of the night, and the rooms not being cleaned daily.

I really enjoyed my stay here, fantastic garden and the staff were lovely and always ready to help in any way. The best thing was the food, I ended up eating a lot here. Definitely a place to recommend for staying a couple of days or just go or for the restaurant.

What a wonderful experience, a beautiful little retreat with everything you could need. Whether it's the delicious vegetarian food, beautiful tropic environment, caring wonderful owner/workers, relaxing hammocks and outdoor spaces or little animal friends this place truly is a nurturing peaceful sanctuary. I spent 4 days here, mostly just hanging around and was none the happier. The staff were great and the owner was awesome, always laughing and super helpful. Everything is at the tip of your finger here too, whether you want to hike Indian Noise Mountain, take a tuk tuk to San Pedro for some food or night life, go hit up the onsite temazcal or shamanic ceremony. I hold this place dear in my heart and hope this helps other who are called to this magical place!
