inaugurated
on
January

1983
through
a
solemn
ceremony
presided

Ángel
Lee
Duarte
and
the

of
the
Republic

.
Likewise,
it
is

community
in
Guatemala,
members
of
the

and

The
ceremony
was
presented
by
ambassador
Dr.
I-Cheng
Loh,
who
indicated
that
that
day
was
very
special
because
it
represented
the
culmination
of
a
project
that
had
begun
19
months
ago,
and
that
for
the
Chinese
colony
residing
in
Guatemala
for
more
than
hundred
years,
it
is
the
first
time
that
they
can
take
pleasure
in
a
contribution
like
this
square,
which
is
a
symbol
of
Chinese
cultural
tradition.
The
monumental
work
was
donated
by
the
Municipality
of
Taipei
to
Guatemala
City,
and
contains
within
it
a
statue
of
the
Chinese
philosopher
Confucius
that
measures
2.7
meters
high
and
rests
on
a
base
10
meters
in
diameter,
covered
with
ceramic
tiles.
The
truncated
pyramid
is
covered
with
green
and
white
marble.
The
famous
chapter
“Harmony”
was
engraved
on
the
green
marble
in
Chinese
and
Spanish,
which
represents
the
essence
of
Confucius'
philosophy.
Around
it,
you
can
also
see
a
beautiful
garden
decorated
with
varieties
of
Chinese
flora
and
fauna,
as
well
as
two
doors
facing
north
and
south,
respectively.

in
its
construction;
