This is the best and must visit place in vellore. The temple is very beautiful outside as well as outside. The craving work on all stone is simply amazing. I don't think we ever get to know what kind of technology our ancestor use to create this masterpiece.

I was blown away by the temple architecture with huge Gopuram at the Enterance. It was so intricate and majestic, like nothing I had ever seen before. The carvings on the walls made me feel like I was in a sacred place. I hear the chanting mantras and the bells ringing. The temple was a masterpiece of art and history, and I felt lucky to witness it. I recommend everyone to visit the holy palace & get blessings.

The temple is based on the Vijayanagar Architecture which it is famous for from Hampi. The temple is a Shiva Temple and the Shivling can be seen easily. The crowds are manageable and not too much. The lawns and premises are well maintained.

The peace you get once you sit down and enjoy the time of being in the moment . My family visited here in the evening time perfect time to move around and explore the fort too.

Nice to visit here. Felt peace here. Beautiful program was going. Classical dance programs were organised here. Everything is fine. Under-construction work is going on. Its a big campus. Green environment. Very good place for walking and running. Inside police recruitment school is there. Enjoy time in park. Little cleaning work is required in campus. People throw plastic waste in park. It should be avoided to maintain the park. Park development work is also going on. Love to visit here.

Jalakanteswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva which is located in the Vellore Fort, in heart of the Vellore city, in Tamil Nadu. This temple was constructed on 1550 CE, and since the Lingam was surrounded by water and the deity was called Jalakandeswarar means Lord resides in water. The temple was built during the reign of the Vijayanagaram king Sadasivadeva Maharaya (1540–1572 CE).This temple was re constructed in1982, followed by 1997 and 2011. The water used for abishekam is drawn from an ancient well called the Ganga Gouri Thirtam, Here we could see giant shiva linga with his consort Parvathi,Lord Vishnu with his consort Lakshmi & Lord Brahmma with mother Saraswati and an idol of Lord Ganesha all built in black stone. This temple is situated inside the fort just opposite to the old bus stand. This temple is under the control of the Archaeological Survey department of India.

This temple is just like many temples in South India which purely reflects the Dravidian Architecture. The Vimana type of entrance (Gopuram) is bigger enough. The locality also matters for this temple. Close to the temple is the vellore fort. If you are planning for a trip here dedicate half an hour to this temple and thats enough. If somebody does have the habit of meditating, then you can be really comfortable here. Even during the noon, it wl be cooler inside this temple structure as its completely made up of rocks. Forget not, to watch the encravings on the walls and the fishes in the pond.

Jalakandeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Vellore city of Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is believed to have been built during the Vijayanagara period and has been renovated several times since then. The temple is known for its intricate carvings and architecture, which is a blend of Vijayanagara and Dravidian styles. The main sanctum of the temple houses the deity of Lord Shiva, known as Jalakandeswarar, along with his consort, Goddess Parvati, known as Vridhambigai. One of the main attractions of the temple is the huge water tank, called Jalakandapuram, located on the western side of the temple. It is believed that the tank is fed by an underground stream and its water is considered to be holy. The temple also has several smaller shrines dedicated to various deities, including Lord Ganesha, Lord Muruga, and Goddess Durga. The temple complex also includes a mandapam, a pillared hall where devotees can sit and offer prayers. Jalakandeswarar Temple is considered to be one of the important Shiva temples in Tamil Nadu and attracts a large number of devotees throughout the year, especially during the annual Brahmotsavam festival.

Actually, I haven't any plan to go there. Once afternoon I just walking across the road and saw that a long green playground. In the meantime, I found entrance gate to viewing the whole place and getting entered for visiting the place. Walking by walking I got a big pyramid type sculpture so I was surprised to see the place. Most interesting point is when I entered the place and then discovered that it was a Temple. Before visiting the inner place I didn't know even what is the building about that. The entire place was neat and clean as well as the tree was gigantic and too old. Front place was so attractive and greenery views which I liked too much.

According to legend, there used to a giant ant-hill at the location where the sanctum sanctorum of temple now stands. This ant-hill was surrounded by stagnant water, as a result of collection of rain water, and at some time a Shiva Lingam was placed in this water around the ant hill and worshiped. Chinna Bommi Nayaka, a Vijayanagar chieftain, who was controlling the fort had a dream where the Lord Shiva asked him to build a temple at that location. Nayaka, proceeded to demolish the anthill and build the temple in 1550 CE, and since the Lingam was surrounded by water (called Jalam in Tamil) the deity was called as Jalakandeswarar (translated as "Lord Siva residing in the water").The temple was built during the reign of the Vijayanagaram king Sadasivadeva Maharaya (1540–1572 CE). ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS The Jalakanteshwara Temple is a fine example of Vijayanagaram Architecture. The temple has exquisite carvings on its gopuram (tower), richly carved stone pillars, large wooden gates and stunning monoliths and sculptures. SPECIALITY Behind the Nandi statue, there is an earthen lamp, which is said to revolve when some people place their hands on it. The revolving is said to indicate that their wishes have been granted. Some devotees of the temple worship the golden and silver lizard sculptures and the snake sculptures in order to get relief from 'sarpa dosham'. LOCATION The temple of the Vijaynagar period stands inside the Vellore Fort, which is under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India, along with the St. John's Church, Tippu Mahal, Hyder Mahal, Candy Mahal, Badhusha Mahal and the Begum Mahal. Here, For men the dress code is dhoti or pyjamas with upper cloth and For women the preferred dress code is saree or half-saree with blouse or chudidhar with pyjama and upper cloth. A must visit place if you are visiting Vellore. No tickets required, free entry.

Namah shivaya..! Temple is marvellous and extraordinary vijayanagara architecture, slightly below the ground level, welcomes you with huge Raja gopuram, inside kalyana mandapam(wedding hall) has stunning details and carvings. Peaceful mantra sounds, gandam smell and bell rings all over temple, less crowd and more blissful. Beautiful corridors all around with madapams. Evenings or mornings are best time to go. You can explore the Vellore fort as well. 2-3 hours needed to see everything.

It is situated inside the Vellore fort. Very good architecture and building carving. The temple was in renovation and water was coming inside, workers were on the job to clean the mess. Otherwise it is again one of the beautiful temples in Tamilnadu. Amazing carving done on the entrance and inside the temple. On your left after entering the big main gate, you will see mantapa, having the best artistic carving on every pillar it has. Must visit place if you are in Vellore. Vellore fort is surrounded by water body just to keep the enemy away for attacking.

A small petite temple (considering massive scale of ancient Indian temples) built by the Vellore Nayakas, under the Vijayanagar empire. The entrance vimana is lofty and richly decorated with sculptures of Gods, goddesses, and other celestial beings from the Hindu pantheon. As one enters the first enclosure, on the left is the most richly curved poetry in stone- a large Mandapam. Further upon entering the second enclosure, one is greeted first by a sequence of shrines starting with Ganesha, Narayan, Karthika, then consort Devi Durga, the Ganges... Southeast corner houses the Bhojanashala. The central sanctum houses the main deity in form of a beautiful Linga of Jalakanteswara.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Jaliandeshwar Temple located within the historical Vellore Fort, and the experience was truly captivating. This ancient temple, with its intricate architecture and rich history, left a lasting impression on me. The Jaliandeshwar Temple is a stunning example of Dravidian architecture, characterized by its intricate carvings and ornate design. As I entered the temple complex, I was immediately struck by the impressive gopuram (gateway tower) that greeted me. The temple's exterior is adorned with beautifully carved sculptures and figures that tell stories of Hindu mythology. What makes this temple truly unique is the presence of a massive, monolithic lingam, a representation of Lord Shiva, which is one of the largest in India. The sheer size of the lingam is awe-inspiring and adds to the spiritual ambiance of the temple. Inside the temple, I was immersed in a sense of serenity and devotion. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the intricate artwork on the pillars and ceilings showcased the craftsmanship of the artisans of the past. What sets the Jaliandeshwar Temple apart is the fact that it is situated within the Vellore Fort, a historical fortress with a rich past. Exploring the fort itself was a fascinating experience, and the temple was a jewel within this historic complex. Overall, the Jaliandeshwar Temple in Vellore Fort is a must-visit for travelers interested in history, culture, and spirituality. Its architectural beauty and the serene atmosphere make it a truly remarkable destination for anyone exploring the region. Whether you're a devotee or a history enthusiast, this temple offers a unique and enriching experience that should not be missed.

An architectural marvel present in the heart of the city. Came for medical purpose, but came across this temple. It's a serene beauty. Quiet, clean, the design, the detailing, the gardens in the temple compound, all these things are simple marvelous. Dedicated to Lord Shiva. No entry fees, only parking charges are applicable. Need atleast one security personnel in the temple campus to make sure no one is destroying the architecture just for the sake of taking photo. What a place! Immensely happy visiting it.

Jalakandeswarar Temple is an important Shiva temple located inside the Vellore Fort. The temple houses lord Jalakandeswarar in the form of Shivalinga. There is a separate shrine for goddess Sri Akilandeswari Amman. Other deities of the temple are Vinayaka, Madeswari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Lakshmi and Saraswathi. The Nandi faces the sanctum of Sri Jalakandeswarar. The construction of the temple is believed to be around 1274 CE which continued for about 50 years. Sambuvaraya built the inner enclosure of the temple and the inner fort in the 14th century. Vijayanagara king, Sadasivadeva Maharaja constructed the outer enclosure, the exquisite Kalyana mandapa and the Vasantha mandapa sometime from 1540 to 1572 CE. The temple is an excellent example of the Vijayanagar style of architecture. The entrance of the temple has large wooden gates and is sculptured beautifully with iron like lotus flowers. The temple houses Kalyana mandapa which shows the fine craftsmanship of Vijayanagara temple architecture. The main entrance has attractive carvings and sculptures.

The Jalakandeswarar Temple in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, is a remarkable temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Situated within the Vellore Fort, this Vijayanagar period temple is a significant historical and religious site in the heart of the city. According to the fascinating legend associated with the temple, the sanctum sanctorum was originally an ant-hill surrounded by stagnant water. A Shiva Lingam was placed in this water and worshipped. In a dream, Chinna Bommi Nayaka, the Vijayanagar chieftain who controlled the fort, was instructed by Lord Shiva to build a temple at this location. Following the divine guidance, Nayaka demolished the anthill and constructed the temple in 1550 CE. The deity was named Jalakandeswarar, signifying "Lord Shiva residing in the water." The temple's architectural beauty and historical significance make it a must-visit destination for both devotees and history enthusiasts. The intricate craftsmanship of the temple showcases the skills of the artisans from the Vijayanagar era. The temple complex also houses the statue of Sri Akhilandeshwari Amma, the consort of Jalakandeswarar, adding to the spiritual ambiance of the site. Managed by the Archaeological Survey of India, the Vellore Fort is home to several other notable structures, including St. John's Church, Tippu Mahal, Hyder Mahal, Candy Mahal, Badhusha Mahal, and the Begum Mahal. Exploring these additional attractions within the fort complex further enriches the overall experience. Visitors to the Jalakandeswarar Temple are greeted with a serene atmosphere, allowing them to immerse themselves in devotion and appreciate the historical significance of the temple and its surroundings. The temple's location in the bustling Vellore city makes it easily accessible, ensuring that visitors can conveniently include it in their itinerary. In conclusion, the Jalakandeswarar Temple is a captivating destination that seamlessly combines spirituality, history, and architectural brilliance. Whether you are a religious devotee or a history enthusiast, this temple within the Vellore Fort is a place of beauty and cultural significance that should not be missed.
