Great museum for the area and right off the subway of Jardin D’…however they charge an additional 200 dinars to take pictures and if the staff sees you taking pictures they will ask to see your receipt. We had about three employees tell us which public areas we couldn’t see. I do wish they put more TLC into this place, lots of dust, smell of mildew, crooked paintings. But it’s a great way to get some culture and art. I would recommend for a one time visit.

Deceivingly expansive, this fine arts museum has a good range of European and Algerian inspired art work. It’s bronze collections are sublime, not to mention the view from the balcony.

Note to solo female travelers: You may expect that an art museum would be a nice, harassment-free place to visit, but it is not. Most of the employees are circumspect and do their jobs, but there is one guy who will try to lure you into a closed off stairway "to see the big Napoleon painting," or offer to show you the view from the closed terrace. If you go with him, he will try to make some moves on you. Others will ask you if you are married, and if your answer is yes, you will then get interrogated about where your husband is. It is a shame because this negative experience really spoils what could otherwise be a nice visit to see a beautiful collection of art. If you do go alone, stick closer to a group of other women or a family, or just skip it all together.

(Translated by Google) This museum is beautiful! I spent a moment out of time. The terrace is also sublime! Only downside, the security officers who follow you everywhere because you are accompanied by your spouse. For the rest, nothing to say. (Original) Ce musée est magnifique ! (Translated by Google) The top floor with the paintings is the best in my opinion. There is also on the same floor a terrace with tables, a view in front of the test garden, do not miss it! The terrace is beautiful! Go there to take a pose, take pictures and admire the test garden. An amazing place to visit. It might strike people coming from Europe as old, it IS OLD, but this adds more charm to the place. You'll get to see paintings from different eras, different countries and different schools, but the best paintings are those of Mohammed Racim, Bachir Yelles and the exquisite Baya Mahieddine. This is the only museum in the world where you get to enjoy the delight of this trio together. It would also be a great experience for children to visit it.

Interesting art and sculptures. They charge you extra if you want to take pictures. Videos not allowed though, which is weird. There’s a beautiful terrace at the top with a beautiful view as well. Would have loved to see more Algerian art and artists though. They also have student entrance prices.

(Translated by Google) The National Museum of Antiquities and Islamic Arts, inaugurated in 1897, located within the walls of the Liberty Park (formerly Galland Park) in Algiers, it is the oldest museum in Algeria and Africa. It has covered the history of art in Algeria for 2,500 years. The museum has two sections, a section of classical antiquity whose collection dates back to 1835 and includes sculptures, mosaics and bronzes discovered on the archaeological sites of Algeria, a section of art from the Muslim West (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia , Spain) and the Near East, which was added to the initial collection in 1846 and consists mainly of manuscripts, a collection of coins, rugs and embroidery, ceramics and woodwork. A former pupil of the Ecole des Chartes and secretary of Marshal Clauzel, Adrien Berbrugger had thought from the beginnings of the conquest of organizing a library and a museum: the first was founded in February 1835, and the collections of antiques were brought together in the Barracks of the Janissaries, rue Bab Azoun, in 1838. From 1845, the museum occupied ten rooms of the Djanina palace, and in 1848, the Library and the Museum were installed in a beautiful Moorish house, rue des Lotophages, demolished in 1862. In 1863, the pieces of the museum were preserved, with the first National Library of Algeria in the palace of Mustapha Pasha, in the Casbah. In 1896, the museum moved to the upper part of Galland Park in a structure previously occupied by the first teacher training college. In 2004, the collection of Islamic art was moved to a Moorish house next to the main building.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful place which has kept a special character. The works are pleasantly arranged. On the top floor you can find paintings by French painters like Renoir, Pissaro Gauguin ... The entry price is ridiculous, but what makes the charm and at the same time is a little worrying is to see this string of staff, men in general busy doing nothing, and frankly we wonder what they serve, knowing that nobody watches the works, I could very well have shown vandalism without anyone noticing, and that is unfortunate.

(Translated by Google) Very disappointed by the pavilion dedicated to antiquity, poorly maintained, poorly lit, lack of visibility on some parts, no orientation. On the other hand, the pavilion dedicated to the Islamic arts is quite the opposite, almost refurbished, it is full of collections that are well marked and indicated. I do not understand how two historic places a few meters from one another are not managed in the same way, why this neglect for antiquity? Or maybe it's an exclusive grant for Islamic arts?

One of the best places in Algiers, it contains the largest collection of fine Arts in Africa and middle East, it was built in 1930 if I remember correctly, as extension of the Test Garden of Hamma, it gives you a beautiful view on it and on Algiers..... The stuff is very helpful and welcoming, you'll never regret the time you spend there

Really don't understand last review. I'm surprised at statements. Agiers like all capitals across the world has its risks; I've met with nothing but kindness from people - Algerians want you to like their country, and it is well worth the effort to visit - as is this Museum. Easy access by the new efficient metro system from centre of town - see the Botanical Gardens at same time.

Nice museum of arts collection from different places of the world like spanish, french, italian, english cultures are exposed out there. I do like that place to give it a visit, it is not far away from Martyrs Monument and has two access with a safe car parking area. Besides, it gives a very nice top view to the Hama garden that tremendous botanic space.

The Museum of Fine Arts has one of the most beautiful balconies onto Algiers' bay, facing the Botanical Garden Hamma. Algeria artwork is well represented, especially with artists like Baya and Khadda. You can also discover the works of Courbet, Clouet, Pissaro and Renoir. The print room and the library is awesome. We need more museums like this one in Algeria. Also, it's not everyday that you get to see cats roaming in a museum (yes you heard me!).

I liked everything ! Exactly the hall way upstairs.. if you stand there you can see the view of "experiments Garden" from the best corner .

The museum has preserved plenty of Sculptures and artifacts that range from the Roman empire, all the way to the Golden Age of Islam. The museum is well kept and clean, has beautiful water fountains, islamic calligraphy, and Pre revolutionary buildings. Make sure to have a French or Arabic translator as none of the artifact descriptions are written in English. The building is near public Transit as well.

(Translated by Google) The Museum of Ancient Art is welcoming. Most of the finds refer to the time of the Roman conquest of the territory then known as Numidia. There are from mosaics to statues, from sarcophagi to bronze masks. The attentive observer will also be able to find artifacts regarding the presence of Christians in this land that saw the birth of St. Augustine. The objects are usually well described with words in Arabic and French. Unfortunately the exhibition space is reduced and this is to the detriment of the possibility of exhibiting many other finds that have certainly been found in Algeria referring to various historical periods. Next door is the Museum of Islamic Art, which can be visited with the same entrance ticket. Interesting, with objects from the Middle East and not just Algerians. There is also an interesting numismatic section, which goes from the Punic period to the Ottoman period (Original) Il Museo di Arte Antica è accogliente.
