I can not express in words how amazing my trip to the park was. I decided to go on a solo trip for my birthday, guernsey state park was close to where I live and looked amazing online. I rented a yurt for two nights. Not only is the price very reasonable but the whole experience was breathtaking. The staff was so friendly and helpful, the yurt was very well kept and homey feeling. The view, oh the view, it is completely breathtaking. Even the restrooms were all nice and clean, no smell, no flies! The shower facility was nice and the beach was very relaxing. I took over a hundred pics on the trip and they are all better then the next. I definitely recommend visiting the park.

This place was absolutely stunning and by far the best area Iโ€™ve ever seen for boats, campers, and jet skis. For just $7 you get a day pass at paradise and I truly enjoyed it. For those who just hike and donโ€™t do water activities, this is still a great place with breath taking views. Just be warned, you should definitely get a map and be prepared for less hiking and more just views on cliffs. On my first trail right by the museum (which is okay) I was attacked by 50+ of this one bug that I donโ€™t know the species of. Whenever you walk down the path they fly and hit you from both sides of the path all the way down. Very annoying even with bug spray on! Here are my top picks to go if youโ€™re just looking for trails and views: North bluff trail,The castle, and directly below the water dam is an amazing view and even spot for fishing. It looks restricted, but itโ€™s really not. Lastly, I recommend just driving through the whole area while being very careful of the narrow roads. Below are pictures of all 3 and I recommend this place for sure!

. Update: Went from 3 stars to 5 we received an email informing us that they were filling the reservoir again. We decided to give it a second chance and we stayed at Sandy Point. If you haven't been here it is worth the trip we came up from Cheyenne, WY, so not to long of a drive. If you have time check out the Meseum and the Castle all displays and structures are original and date back to the 1930's. The staff was very knowledgeable and a joy to talk to. Really happy we gave them a second chance. Original review: This park has great potential however, they drain the reservoir in the middle of the summer, the 3 star rating is for the gorgeous sunsets which get a 5 star on its own, they were absolutely breath taking. I will however saw there was some water we were able to get into at Gray Rocks Reservoir. I also wish I knew that train tracks ran right next to the campsite. Other than that they did have neat and well kept campsite I just wish they had water to cool off, we had to drive 30 minutes to go to Gray Rocks

Very crowded on the weekends and hard to find an available spot because the website is horrendously awful and almost unusable. Reservations are required for the majority of spots so plan to spend a great deal of time trying to navigate the very user unfriendly website... Campsites are very close together in most areas and not on water with only a very few close to water or that offer any sort of privacy. Fishing was awful in what looked to be the perfect spot.. Take only memories, leave only footprints.

Be sure not to camp by the train tracks or you will be driven insane by literal constant train noise about 100 yards from you, besides that, amazing

Loved the lake, the train tracks are very busy and are heard from the campground all day and night long. The lake is great. Had a great time paddle boarding and enjoying the water.

Truly enjoyed our visit to Guernsey state park! A hidden gem. Beautiful scenery a slightly warmer micro climate. Amazing cliffs, caves and beaches. Secluded trails. Clean public restrooms. Boat launches and camper hookups. Lots of picnic areas. Wildlife were abundant. Deer relaxing in shady coves along the shoreline and birds soaring above.

Great camping spots with beautiful scenery. Lots of water activities available such as kayaking or boating. Some fishing, too, although not the biggest catches. Great scenic drive through the park, too.

Booked 3 tent sites on Saturday when I got confirmation that my kids and grand kids all wanted to come camping with Grandma and Grandpa. I didnโ€™t know about the fire ban at the time and told my kids after I paid $82 for each site. I wanted to give the grand kids an experience at the lake and the nearby Oregon trail tracks (which grandma and I stopped at years ago). Great family fun. Then my son tells me he doesnโ€™t want to go if there can be no fire in the pits. Who wants to cook sโ€™mores on a gas stove or charcoal bbq? Ok , so in less than 24 hours , I cancel the trip. I find out I only get $50 per pad back. Ouch - $32 per site they are keeping. I called to explain that we donโ€™t have money to just throw around like that and you have plenty of time to fill the spots. They didnโ€™t care. I will not be staying at their state parks again.

It's a good park. It was our first time there. We did some scouting, while we were there. We are definitely gonna go back for 4th of July in a different spot.

It's a lovely park, and I can't blame park management for the weather that turned nasty overnight, but our stay did present a few problems that no one could be bothered to help us with: When we got to our reserved tent site, we found on its gravel tent pad a giant anthill that would have required a shovel and some poison to clear out. (Come on, people--At least occasionally get out there and actually inspect your sites!) When we called the park check-in number and left a message about this problem, no one ever got back to us. Fortunately, we found an ant-free spot in the Upper Spotted Tail CG--which, incidentally, the website made no mention of as a first-come-first-serve option--and we called in our change to the check-in line, hoping that someone would hear it and we wouldn't get put on the "no-show" list. We were never called back. The entrance booth had been empty when we got there, so when we got up the next morning we drove back to it to ask about trail maps. When asked, the person staffing the booth initially told us that not all hiking trails could be biked on, but when I asked for specifics she ultimately said the exact opposite: that any hiking trail could be ridden, as well. I got the feeling she actually wasn't sure of the real answer, but upon request she was able to supply us a couple of blurry, hard-to-read trail maps that appeared to be fifth-generation photocopies. When we stopped at the shower house, it was locked, and we could find no further information on when it might be open. (On the bright side, the vault toilet in our CG was almost spotlessly clean and largely odor-free.) In general, the park felt abandoned in regard to park staff and we got the sense that you just have to figure it out on your own, with precious little assistance from live humans. I don't mind paying site and reservation fees to support park operations, but for the price I expected at least minimal service and an ant-free site. But that would require effort that it seems park management just doesn't want to put into the job.

They have really well maintained campsites, hiking trails, and a beautiful reservoir.

We went with a group of friends and camped in the group site which was awesome. It's separated free room the other campsites enough that it feels very private. The boat ramp was nearby and easily accessible. The facilities are very well maintained. We all had a great time. Looking forward to a return trip.

    Very nice place.

Changed pricing. Expect to pay a day fee and a night fee per vehicle as well as the site fee for camping spot. This was a shock for us. $25 a day per vehicle for non residents out. Was an extra $225 dollars we didnt Expect to pay. Still a beautiful place. Not much room for boat trailer parking. additional cost will make us look for other places.

Great small park in Wyoming. Very popular for boating and fishing. Does have one coin-operated showerhouse. Would like to see more development on the trails. The yurts are amazing to stay in!

  • 5/5 Abby L. 3 years ago on Google
Yurts were an excellent option in the cold weather. We drove through the campsites and I would not recommend them for tent camping unless you don't mind being packed in with neighboring campers. As the park is primarily focused on the reservoir, the layout is extremely narrow so campsites are very crowded and many of them are adjacent to the railroad tracks. Adjacent meaning 30 yd or so and the trains run non-stop am and pm. It's Wyoming so really that's not surprising at all. Overall, the reservoir is truly beautiful and there are some fun loops you can hike with scenic views of the hills, reservoir, and mountains to the west. We will definitely be back in the summer with kayaks. I would also stay in the yurts again as they have wonderful views and are quite isolated from the rest of the park. The decks offer fantastic sunrises and sunsets, and each yurt had a fire ring outside for warmer months. Bring basic cleaning supplies because the yurts are supposed to be equipped with everything you need to clean up after you check out but ours wasn't. Make sure to also pack lights as the overhead solar ones are insufficient. The woodstove was awesome, but the yurt will cool off exponentially by 2am in the winter as they aren't insulated. Bring an INDOOR propane heater or set an alarm to get up and stoke the fire if you stay in the winter. We really enjoyed this little park for a lazy weekend. It's location might make a great base for some serious hiking up in the Laramie Peak area, but if you're an avid hiker you'll probably be able to finish the trails in a day or less. The CCC castle is delightful and worth visiting. This is a great park for people wanting to camp but looking for nice amenities and a beach!

The museum is totally wirth going through, very interesting. We loved our camping spot, except the loud people partying until early the next morning. The water is nice, and hope next time we can paddleboard. It was too windy this time. The Rangers were very nice.

We really enjoyed this park and everything there was to see and do! We will be back again next summer! Can anyone tell me what the big birds were that would soar from really high up in large groups over the park? They might possibly nest on the Sandy Beach side in the trees?
