Pleasant walk to reach the temple and surrounding buildings. I came here several years ago and was amazing. However a lot of work has and still is taking place here. This spoils the look and feel of the place. Some of the new permanent modern structures have been built to make money out of the visitors. This would be fine if they had not built them so close. A real pity. Worth a visit if in the area as does not take long.

Bongjeongsa Temple is one of the most renowned places not only in Andong, but also in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. It is one of the handful of temples in Korea with the longest history and the most beautiful temple. Bongjeongsa contains Geungnakjeon Hall, which is the oldest wooden building in Korea. Carrying on the traditions of Buddhism, Bongjeongsa can demonstrate the unqiue appeal of mountain temples, which provide people with training of the mind and soul and a chance to relax and find serenity. For this reason, it has been drewing a lot of interest and visitors since long ago. In the Goryeo Dynasty, King Taejo and King Gongmin visited the temple. More recently, in 1999, Bongjeong garnered global attention when Queen Elizabeth II of England visited the Andong Village and Bongjeongsa Temple to gain insight into Korean Buddhism culture.

(Translated by Google) Seven of Korea's Sansa temples were listed as World Heritage Sites by the 42nd UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Bahrain on June 30, 2018. There are seven temples listed as World Heritage Sites: Beopjusa Temple in Boeun, Magoksa Temple in Gongju, Seonamsa Temple in Suncheon, Daeheungsa Temple in Haenam, Bongjeongsa Temple in Andong, Buseoksa Temple in Yeongju, and Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan. To stand in front of the world's cultural heritage, Bongjeongsa Temple, Daeungjeon, you must pass the stone steps under the Manseruin Deokfiru. The end of the stone steps below Deokfiru is low, so if you don't lower your head, you can stab your head, so you can only climb up the courtyard if you bow your head naturally. Bongjeongsa Temple, named because it looks as if a phoenix stayed at the foot of Cheondeungsan Mountain, was founded by Neungin Daedeok, a disciple of the Usangdaedae in the Silla Dynasty, and several monks including Wongam and Anchong repaired it six times, but the roof leaked and the foundation stone was torn down in 1363 (King Kongmin 12), the discovery of Sangryangmun, which is said to have been reclaimed by Daeseonsa, Yongsusa, confirmed that Bongjeongsa Geukrakjeon is the oldest existing wooden structure. It is important to note that it is the oldest of the existing wooden structures, but it has been rebuilt as a baeheulrim pillar boasting the graceful beauty of Geuknakjeon at Bongjeongsa Temple. Yeongsanam, located at the foot of the mountain next to Daeungjeon, is a famous hermitage where the films'Why Dharma Goed East' and'Naratmalsami' were filmed. In the palm-sized garden in front of Yeongsanam, it is known as'Korea's Top 10 Gardens', cultivated with Korean wildflowers including low-key pine trees. The brush strokes on the Uhwaru signboard on the floor of Yeongsanam Hall of Interest led to Ilpilhuiji as if watching a seungmu’s dance. I'm going to empty my complicated head for a while from the agony of the world.

We only visited here because we happened to be staying at Bongjeongsagil 200 Guesthouse just down the road. It was really great though, a really old (the oldest wooden building in Korea) and magnificent temple in an incredibly peaceful part of nature. We saw two wild deer, a woodpecker and a number of other birds here during our short visit. A couple of other people appeared to be there solely for the bird watching.

Really Nice place. I spent a night there and it is really beautifull and calm. The ceremony are interresting to see (you can also do the morning pray if you want. It is really early though.). Food is vegetarian only.

Entry was 2000 won for adult. You can drive up the hill instead of walking. Place with long and important history but as a tourist I didn't enjoy it too much. Similar to many other temples. Also there was construction of the gate going on so maybe that influenced the experience. At least it was almost empty when we visited at noon. It's not close to any big attractions so unless you appreciate history and small details about temples, I'd skip it.

Worth a visit if you are in the area or if you want to pray specifically to there. If you do want to visit, ensure that you map a few other things around the area to make the time worth while. If not pretty much the same as all the other temples.

One of the “Sansa” buddhist temples in Korea recognized as UNESCO heritage site, Bongjeongsa is a small temple that is serene and quiet. Located not too high up on the mountain, if you arrive here with a car you can drive up to the entrance. Otherwise, the walk up to the temple from the gate is not too far either. There is no entry fee anymore (it’s been removed by recent law change), so free to tour around. However, as others say unless you specifically came here for a reason or wanted to see this temple, I would skip it. Not too much to see, and similar to other temples. Buseoksa temple (부석사) is more grandeur and larger than this temple, recommend going there if you want to see a temple.

It's under construction.. A Lot of dust and noise but many people. In the 극락전, some people pray for the wishes, so not easy to look around inside. Maybe get another chance to visit again without notmany people, after the renovation. .

(Translated by Google) This is an old reflection I found with acquaintances I met after a long time on the second Saturday of November. I first thought that it would have been nice to visit around October when the autumn leaves were blooming. The parking lot is up to 3 parking lot to the left of the ticket office, so there was no inconvenience in parking. The temple stairs are high and old, so it may be dangerous for the elderly to walk, so it would be better to maintain it with straight stone.
