Eher trauriges Thema. Gesammelte Flip-flops nach einem Hurrikan. Und die Hurrikan werden dank uns Menschen immer stärker. Und nach der Corona-Pandemie 2020, werden wir diesen Planeten weiter ausbeuten und zerstören....

I really had mixed feelings. It's not very nice to destroy a tree by nailing tons of plastics on it. It has no historical, scientific, touristy whatsoever value at all. Not even nice, doesn't look good at all, destroys the otherwise nice view. Some say this is a memento and salutes to the victims of hurricanes. I hardly think so. I'd vote for canceling it. (Don't kill the tree, just remove junk.)

Well, it's weird to comment on a tree but here we go. The flip flip tree is a monument to all of the trash that the ocean washes in every day. So it's a subtle/not so subtle reminder to pack out what you pack in (for tourists) and be kind to the ocean and don't litter (for locals). Does it work? You tell me. People take photos by it all the time without really thinking about that it means.

A symbolic site for the fight against plastic pollution of the oceans. All manners of plastics recovered from the ocean are nailed to the tree to raise awareness of the menace. It has become a tourist attraction of some sort, sitting directly by the sea conveniently for bother seafarers and driving tourists alike.

Lovely, especially learning the backstory... the aim of which was to preserve the environment , wonderful way to clean up the beach and preserve the environment.

Disappointing. Beach full of plastic waste. Lovely trees

If you are expecting the old tree that was covered in flip flops, you will be disappointed. Its been removed from South sound, and a new one has been started in East End. Maybe in a few years this one can rival the old tree. But for now, (July 2024) its got less than 15. There are honestly more on the sign than the tree itself. If you visit any of the more secluded and less popular beaches, there will be no shortage of beach trash, and plenty of flip flops to be found. Grab some, and make this a sight again! Also as of now there is little to no parking in the area.

Cool idea. Not so sure it's such a great idea to drive nails into a living tree though.

Was a neat place to visit your way back to the airport to say goodbye and "until next time" to beautiful Grand Cayman! However, this beautiful landmark was desecrated and removed, sometime between our visit in 2019 and our return trip in 2023. But all is not lost. A new tree of Lost Soles has been started on the East End... I've attached some photos. You'll also find a second tree inside Tukka's restaurant further from town.

The Cayman Shoe Tree was an interesting and unexpected find. It's sickening how much trash is in our oceans nowadays. The Shoe Tree is definitely worth the visit!
