Not my first time here but first time sitting up at the bar to catch the hustle and grind. Always a 5-star experience. Friendly and fast cooks/staff who have been around for a while, even the customers. Never had a low running cup of coffee here. Portions are generous and fresh at a reasonable cost!

My friend picked this spot for lunch and it was nice. Great friendly staff. Lots of food choices. I liked my nutella crepes but I just wish they were stuffed with nutella like in Vegas's crepe spot, the nutella was just drizzled on. Still good though. Love the vintage feel to the place. Everything was yummy!

This is an old school diner style place, so the this review isn’t about the vibe! But the food! The food was so good. And fast, my god it was fast! The chicken & dumpling soup was so good. It wasn’t creamy which surprised me. The Nutella crepes were rich and sweet, as excepted, and simply divine. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with hash browns and corned beef hash. All three were really, really good. High quality, decent pricing!

Went there for brunch with relatives that were in town. I had the cheese burger which tasted awesome. And had creamy rice soup with it along with fries and ranch. The orange juice looked fresh squeezed. The place was hopping when we were there at the tail end of brunch. I think the photos tell all. One thing that was odd is the mens bathroom sink water temp could not be adjusted from really hot and it was small, besides that one of our tables wiggled. Staff were friendly. The food pictures speak for themselves

Good typical diner food.. what sets Sugar Bowl apart from the rest is the amazing personable service you get every single time. They are attentive and kind just overall friendly. Not a fancy diner but it's nice and casual. Great to just sit with friends or family and enjoy a good meal with good company.

This is a local business for our Des plaines community! It’s located in downtown across from the metro station and the service is always Amazing ✨🌟 Portion sizes are large and you will have left overs . Parking is conveniently located on the side of the restaurant and if the lot is filled you can part in the free garage. 💜

One of the best breakfast places in DP! Always super fresh and tasty. Staff is friendly and prompt. Bathrooms are clean. Kid friendly.

Excellent, friendly service. Was a crowded Sunday at noon; sat at the counter. Within a couple minutes I had my order taken and within another 6 minutes had my order in front of me. Very reasonable prices.

Walked in waited a few minutes before someone came and greeted me. Food was bland. The service for me was poor and inattentive. All of the waiters had an attitude. Felt like I was being rushed. The waiter didn’t ask if I would like anything else, she just gave me the check. I handed her my card to pay for it she placed on the counter as if it were hard to hand it back. It’s small things like that I take notice of. I definitely won’t be coming back there.

Sugar Bowl is a friendly breakfast place downtown Des Plaines. Parking is easy so don’t worry about that part. The food is good. I recently had their French Toast and it was one of the better examples in the area - I eat at a lot of breakfast restaurants. Skillets are also good. Service is fast and friendly. They have a good amount of seating. This, combined with their downtown location, means that you can often find immediate seating while other breakfast places have a wait. I don’t know that they have a specialty.

Sugar Bowl would be a perfect place for you if you like old school parlours. There is nothing there to show that we live in 2023 and depending on the preferences it could be a good or bad thing. The food is decent, nothing special, same with the drinks (though they have a great tray with fancy medleys of tea), the service is helpful and nice, and the environment as I stated earlier is like 1970.

The menu has almost anything and everything .The salad was huge, got the Greek. Delicious and old school. Great service. Needed AC or a fan or two. With air conditioning added, I'd give it a 5. Will be back.

Recently visited after 10 years the quality went down of food and service was famous for ham off the bone, it was dry weird texture the temperature of food was Luke warm, the waitress made a comment that my guest and I was ordering a lot of food. Waitress didn’t even ask why we left the whole ham. Then as I went to restroom I’m hearing the staff complaining about tips with the manager laughing.

Very old school from the outside but inside is more updated. Very good menu and great prices I got a chicken sandwich with soup & fries for under $15 it was 4 of us in the party plus my toddler. Will deff come back!

Will be back again!! Extensive mental. I wish I knew his name because I would love to call him out on his impeccable service. Fresh orange juice. The food was good. A little pricey but there was plenty on the plate. Only thing I think would have made it better is to add seasonings. I didn't taste any. Not even salt or pepper. Or butter. Despite that, I highly recommend
