Is a nice place to go fishing. And take your kids to refresh their feet.

If you're looking for a place for a peaceful walk, this is not it. You can hear the wonderful heavy traffic of the highway RIGHT next to the trail. If you're looking for nice trails to run/ride a bike on, this is not it. It's a grass trail that gets HEAVILY muddy when a drop of water touches the ground. As you walk, you can hear the wonderful sizzling sound of the giant electrical towers that border the unpaved, lazy grass trail around the small pond where apparently people like to fish. Long story short; there are much better places to fish, much better places to walk. This doesn't deserve the preserve name.

This is a small preserve. One mile around the lake. Has a pier with a bench. The path is covered at points. Peaceful but you can see/hear the highway. Not a lot of noticable wildlife. Im assuming because of the power lines?

One of the many places to visit in Lake County.

Some off the beaten path options here, but main loop is decent. Noisy i94 traffic on one end, some crackly high tension power lines with associated old bullet holes in the do not climb signs . Ice gets solid mid winter and sometimes ices clear. You can see an old car on the lakebed. Quick hike around can get your heart rate up.

My dog loves it here! It's a bit noisy next to the tollway, but other than that, it's a great place to take a walk and cool down in/on the lake.

Gives me bad vibes. Like others have said, between the power lines and very loud tollway, itโ€™s not peaceful at all. There are some characters who hang out here.

Very nice scenery. Haven't had a chance to explore much there, but when I do I'll be prepared with good shoes because part of the path is grassy and muddy. Oh, and I don't care too much for those port-a-potty toilets stalls there because they sure do stank bad. However, if you really got to go you will.

This is a nice clear lake. Lots of fishers were there when we visited. Lovely little park but very loud between the sound of the electricity on the lines and the cars zooming by on the highway. Sadly, it wasn't quite as nice because of all the noise.

Lake Carina is a lovely, small forest preserve. The path around the lake is a tidy 1 mile walk, perfect for a lunch break stroll. I know a lot of visitors really enjoy the fishing, but I think its a perfect place to check on the passing of the seasons! There is plenty of evidence of wildlife if you're a birdwatcher also.

Seems like a good fishing hole, I have been told it's good fishing hole, but I didn't catch a thing or have a bite both times I went. Water is pretty clear, and alot deeper than what I am used to fishing. In my opinion there's not enough shoreline access for being a lake where u can't use a boat, kayak, or canoe.

Very small lake, maybe good for a 30 min walk.

Best place to relax and relieve stress. Enjoy natures peace before heading towards Six Flags which is just nearby.

It is a beautiful park on rt.21 off of 94, so its a bit noisy, but the nature trail is nice and small, with a couple hidden trails closer to the lake and the Des Plaines river. Couple fisherman here and there. Really small fish there, but if youre into catching and letting go with the little ones, this is the place for it. If youre a runner, this park is really not for us, but definitely a park to bring a significant other or your little furry buddy to take a walk and enjoy nature. Also, I love that its one of the cleanest parks I visit, so please keep it that way...... another thing, i headed south west off the trail and accidentally ended up in someones backyard, be careful out there and dont get shot or have the dogs chew your ass up. Stay close to Des Plaines river. The coyotes I have spotted are far south of the park.

Edited: 2-26-23 It has gotten cleaner, now only a handful of beer cans and trash along the bank of the lake opposite the parking lot. However, finding a 9MM SHELL CASING TODAY really takes the cake. My message to the non-gun law-abiding beer can littering degenerates that visit this forest preserve, go to Chicago! Go anywhere else! Just stay out of lake county and Wisconsin. Maybe just keep to your own backyard. Throw all the beer cans you want back there. Lake County does a fantastic job with their preserves but this is my least favorite. There is always trash here and never at the other forest preserves so I'm blaming the people that go there, since it's not the rangers job to babysit and clean up after adults. There are plenty of trash bins that people can put their booze bottles in but they just don't. Fishing trash, bottles, all sorts of garbage there. The actual trail surface is nice, short, about a mile. It's very loud because it's right up against the tollway so if you want quiet and fresh air, find another preserve. Usually people fishing but I've never seen anyone catch anything. Water is very clean. Too bad everything around it is not.
