The teppanyaki chef and the food was great. I would have given a 5 star for our experience, but I feel 4 star is fair for the following reasons. 1. The cleaning staff started to scrub and clean the grill with detergent and water while we were still at the table. It looked gross to see the guy remove the grease and other dirt from the grill right in front of our eyes. This job should be done after the guests have left the table, or done after the resturant has closed for the day. 2. I asked a staff who was passing by, to bring me paper napkins. She was totally blank as she spoke no English. Our chef, who overheard me, reached out to the service station nearby to bring back the paper napkins. My suggestion: Have non-English speaking staff learn few common words spoken in a restuarant, such as, napkin, fork, spoon, extra plate, water, restroom, etc. 3. This was a birthday event. The candle that was brought to the table was a full sized candle that is normally used to light up a small room. It was evident the candle has been used many times before. A birthday candle is usually a small crayon sized candle that is used only once. 4. The exhaust hood right above the grill was visibly quite dirty/greasy. I understand it is supposed to be such. Maybe a nice cleanable stainless steel cover to hide the greasy interior of the hood might do the trick. This removable stainless steel cover can be easily cleaned at the end of the shift each day Other than the above fixable observations, this is a nice place to visit. Hope to go back again.

❤ Highly recommend! Yes, I'll admit you might be taken back by the prices, but its worth EVERY cent! Not only do you get the traditional soup & salad, you also get shrimp and noodles, veggies and your main course with rice and 🍄 mushrooms, or fungi as my group was saying (lol). Then you get 9ce cream too! I was beyond full and excited I have left overs for lunch the following day! My to go was so full, along with my stomach. They have some fun speciality cocktails too which others at the table couldn't resist a second, I suck to Kiren- a tradition at hibachi for me. Now, our chef! Kevin--what a hoot, he totally made the meal 200x times better, we were nothing but laughs and jokes the entire time he was making dinner! I have never seen the onion volcano the way he displayed it. He lit the 🔥 from corner of the grill and moved to the volcano, what a show!!! Absolutely have to say THIS place knows what their doing! Highly recommend to anyone in the area, we were just traveling for work. More than worth the 15 minute drive, and beyond worth every penny!

It was my first time here, and what a nice treat! The service was outstanding. The scallops and shrimp were superb and the fried rice was amazing, made fresh while you watch. I enjoyed my unique experience at Rokbonki and will be coming back soon!

I really, really wanted to love this place. We do teppanyaki on vacation at the all-inclusive resort we love in Mexico and think it's delicious and we always have a great time. I was looking for something fun to do on a Friday night with my family so I figured, why not? I've lived in the area forever and my friends raved about it growing up, but it absolutely didn't live up to expectations. The carpeting is sticky, which should have been a clue, but things just got worse. Salad was basic, at best. Soup? Meh. The fried rice was alright. My lobster with egg yolk topping was completely inedible. It was SO overcooked and there were pieces of shell in every bite I attempted. Not going back.

Asked for shrimp sauce and was berated by the chef for 5 minutes about how that’s only a Japanese thing? I thought this was a Japanese steakhouse. “Is this your first time here? Are you from out of town?” And then he told me to use ginger sauce three times even after I said no I don’t like ginger. Lol. All the chef had to say was no sorry we don’t have it. The server dropped our drinks off one time and didn’t check up on us the rest of the meal when it would’ve been nice to get a refill. He gave us the wrong check and when I told him he rudely said “no i didn’t” Well there was a kids meal on our ticket and we didn’t have a kid with us. The vegetables were undercooked and the rice was really sweet. For $50 a plate I expected better food and service.

Had dinner here with my wife and 3 little kids last night. We had a wonderful experience and most importantly they were very kid friendly! I had the filet which was cooked perfectly and super tender! The soup and salad were good as well as the veggies. I loved that they had the hibachi noodles (super underrated) and shrimp appetizer. My 3 little kids split the adult steak with fried rice and there was plenty of food! My wife really enjoyed her chicken entree. We will definitely be coming back the next time we are in the mood for hibachi! Great job Rokbonki team!

The food is drenched in grease and over cooked. I had to do a review to make sure other people don’t waste their time and money. This is literally the worst meal I have ever had and threw out 90% of it.

Fantastic as always. Had the filet and scallops tonight both were very render and excellent. Noodles were exceptionally good and everyone even ate all the veggies! Can't wait to go back.

Came here for my birthday and was absolutely impressed by their food and show! Ive been to plenty of teppanyaki places and this is tied for my favorite. I took what may give this place the edge is the portions are huge! In this economy that's nothing to bat an eye at. I would definitely recommend the spicy garlic shrimp. *Chef's kiss*

I've been going to this place since I was a little kid. It has the best hibachi style food I've ever tasted. I highly recommend the ribeye steak. My wife loves the shrimp. The portions are really large and you definitely feel like you are for what you paid for. I highly recommend going here for a birthday or special occasion. Definitely worth bringing the kids to it well as it's quite entertaining.

The best. Everything is made to order in front of you. Chefs are engaged and wonderful. It's a little pricey, but absolutely worth the quality and quantity.

We went there for my daughter's 21st birthday drink. She wanted sushi but they aren't serving sushi!!! My only complaint

Went with a group of friends for our birthdays, and had the privilege of having their amazing hibachi cook, Kevin! He made our experience above and beyond. We have had many other hibachi dinners, but Rokbonki and Kevin‘s wonderful personality made this experience outstanding. Of course, the food was delicious, too. And the rest of the staff was very personable.

Never got to eat. Our reservation was at 630, we left at 7 because two tables opened up - each table seats 8 people and there were two full parties waiting to be seated before us (also a 630 reservation). Heard from others food was great but apparently a reservation doesn’t mean much here, according to another patron. No sour feelings but we weren’t entirely interested in waiting for another table to free up because basically everyone else in the restaurant was just getting their food so we left.

I wrote a review on another restaurant's site, and the passage below is a part of that review. To curb my taste for Tokyo shrimp, this weekend we went to Rokbonki in Arlington Heights. What a world of difference. The prices were less, the foods were well marinated, and I was able to enjoy the Tokyo shrimp I craved. Thank you for maintaining your high standards of foods. I have dined at your restaurant since at least the 90's, and you still offer high quality services.

The restaurant has been in business for a long time. They have great food, great service, and you'll have a great time there. The drinks are good as well as their hot tea. If you want a nice dinner date, I highly recommend going here.

Worth the price…. The combinations and single meat dishes include - Salad, soup, rice, noodles and ice cream + the protein you order. The service was very quick and we got our food ready in front of us in less than 30 mins after we seated. The place decently busy for a Friday. I ordered Chicken and Shrimp combination - Hibachi Chicken and Spicy garlic Shrimp My girlfriend ordered Teriyaki Chicken with Salmon. In the end we were ask which ice cream and we both ordered rainbow Sherbet. Everything was really good. Except they didn’t have any Yum Yum sauce and no house made hot sauce. Definitely worth trying.

Have been going here for probably 15 years at this point. Food is always a very good and good portions. You also get noodles included with your entree as well as a bit of shrimp. One of my favorite Japanese steak houses.

Dined here last evening. I found it to be less than sanitary - hair in my food. Yuck. 🤮 Not exactly the experience I was looking for! Was really looking forward to dining here because it was recommended to me by mutual friends. Maybe will try it again.

Wonderful restaurant! The servers were very nice and accommodating. The food was very nice—the scallops the best we’ve ever had, and the steak beautifully done. Our chef, Kevin, was extremely friendly and we had a wonderful time being served by him, and other staff. Will return if we’re in town again! And from my partner, “i love you kevin xoxo”.

Unfortunately this restaurant was compared to one of my favorite restaurant. Chi-tung, and it was an complete insult. This restaurant was horrible. They serve not enough food, and no season at all. And to top it off the chief had a very bad attitude. When I asked about my steak being still on the grill, he replies, am I the cook or him. Very rude and nasty. Will never eat here again.

Our chef was super crabby. My husband asked about chopsticks and he made a big production about how he wasn’t the server, he was the chef. Usually they’ll just call the server over if they don’t have what they need. No twirling knives, flipping bowls, nothing. He did not want to be there. I’m sure other chefs are great, but he was not.

Best Japanese Steakhouse I’ve been to in Chicago! This Place will never disappoint you trust me. Great time for family, friends or that special someone. Amazing job to everyone who works there. Thanks

I've been to about a dozen Japanese Steakhouses around the country and this one is by far the best. I take my friends and family here all the time because you really can never get enough. Try their teriyaki, it's homemade, and it's to die for!
