Tried Steak 'n Shake for the first time and it was pretty good. The portions are spot on. Everything was fresh, too. The shakes are the best! It was my family's first time going. We ended up buying a shaker of the seasoning. We weren't sure if they had packets or not. Service was friendly, so we ended up topping $20 on top of a $35 order. They ended up forgetting a sauce and the ice cream was wrong but still good food. I ordered the chili mac and was expecting chili mac and cheese but it was like spaghetti. Interesting but it tasted good. Would go back!

Stopped in for a treat before some shopping. Shakes were great, they always are. Definitely needed to wait for an extended amount of time even though we were the next order and we didn't have any food. Not a big deal though as we weren't in a rush and I sort of feel like things are supposed to move at a slower pace here, like it would have back when it was founded.

The burgers and shakes are really good! You order on a kisok what you would like and pay there as well. The milkshakes are my favorite today we had butterfinger and banana. I will be back when in need of good comfort food!

Actually been a few months since I was here last but have always loved this place. Not too many locations around in fact the Gurnee location is one-of-a-kind in Lake county. Nothing like a good quality steak burger accompanied by tasty shoe string fries and an awesome shake. There was a time I used to come here late night with an empty stomach just to gobble down their 7X7 (7 patties, 7 slices of cheese) but that was discontinued at least 4-5 yrs ago. Venue is always kept clean, have always had friendly service, prices are well worth it even if you have to wait 20 min. for a table when they are at their busiest and I'll continue to pop in when I got that craving.

What a huge change from two 2 years ago. What caught me off guard was that there were no servers. There are 4 kiosk machines for you to order your food. It was quick and easy to order. I miss the interaction with servers and being able to chat with them and tip them. The food was delicious, fresh, and hot.

Staff was nice. You order from a kiosk which is convenient. The buns were stale and according to my daughter they had “the dirtiest bathrooms she had ever seen.” Seemed short staffed which is surprising in the current environment. The shakes were amazing as advertised in the photo.

Was so happy to see that the dining room was FINALLY opened since pre COVID. However was disappointed to see that they downsized the menu and got rid of many of their burgers. We also had to do all the work of entering orders on a kiosk. Wait for our food, get our food and clean up after ourselves which was fine. But it's NOT ok to ask for a tip when the patron is doing all the work. Also the restaurant was FILTHY!!!! How are you gonna be closed for over 2 years because of COVID and then not even have a clean establishment upon opening back up! The workers were nice and the food was still good though.

Very rude inconsiderate and bad customer service. I order my food spend $87.59 each meal came with a shake I ask how would I know which shake is which the manager told me I didn’t make it so I said can you please help she walk away so I had to sip each shake to figure it out then they had 3 shakes wrong and I gave them my receipt and they said I was wrong so I pointed it out and sip each shake and told them which one I order then they made my meals wrong they made them seem the cook throwing the fries on my plate and my hamburger too they made faces while they handed me my order. Will never come back very rude.

It was pretty good for the first time going. I honestly didn't get too much food but what I did get was delicious! The atmosphere was pretty cozy and it was a little quite. When ordering you don't even have to talk to people, just pick up your food when your name is called to get food and you can have a mostly people-less experience! Great for quick meals too. Check it out when you get the chance!

A few years ago, before Covid, this restaurant chain used to be one of my favorites. With a group of friends late at night, I have so many fond memories. I finally went back with my girlfriend and our daughter after a couple years and I was through the roof excited. We walked in the front door just to be greeted by self checkout machines (that ask for a tip). There was nobody available to talk to so we stood at the machines for a bit with a line behind us while we were trying to order (hmm I used to be served at a table here). We sat at a table and waited for them to call our number with our food. I get up to the counter and the server person had her back to us, but I was missing my cup. So I asked her for my cup and you would have thought I ruined her day, she pointed towards the soda machine with attitude. I know she could have been having a bad day but I have received zero service up to this point. Food presentation was excellent. Fries were not even warm, they were COLD. Burgers were decent. Shakes were delicious. At the end we also had to clean up our own tables and garbage. I used to receive great service at these restaurants, many fond memories, now I’m questioning if I should spend any more money there. Prices going up and service disappeared. Restaurant was dirty, we received zero service throughout the entire visit. Food was okay at best. Remember how it asked for a tip at the very beginning? Who was I tipping?

The food was great as always with SteaknShake. The restaurant was showing its age with rips in the booth seats and walls needing a fresh coat of paint. They did have the parking lot redone since my last visit, which was nice.

We went there for a quick bite before heading back home. The food was decent, the place looked well-maintained and friendly staff.

Many years ago, my family and I would have dinner here after a long day at Six Flags. We were passing through the area and decided to stop and eat here. We were all surprised that the service model had changed. I remember it being a sit down restaurant with wait staff, but now you order your food at a kiosk at the entrance and wait for your number to be called. I ordered the Garlic Double Steakburger Combo, which tasted awesome. From what I remember the quality of the food seems to have stayed the same.

Clean with reasonably fast service. The shakes were not filled to the top so that was a bit disappointing. At least they were mixed properly though, so they tasted good. Burgers and fries were also good.

Don't plan on coming here unless you want to order from a kiosk and wait in line for it! Service isn't what it use to be. Even though you do order from a kiosk they still mess up your order. Drive thru is the same way. Food is excellent and I love their fries but kiosks are not accurate unless the servers aren't reading their receipts correctly. Soo annoying

They have really changed, but in a lot of ways for the better. Steak n Shake of old is gone. No more servers, plates, silverware. You now order at a kiosk and get your food from the counter. Honestly, it was the fastest I've ever gotten my food at a steak n shake, and I used to LOVE SnS. The food was the same, the charm was gone. But really, I didn't need an experience... I wanted a ~$10 meal and that's what I got, no frills. I miss the long gone days of SnS, but I'll take this over it fading away, all day long.

The gentleman at the window was the best part about my experience. Kind and calm but half my order was forgotten and they closed immediately after I left so I couldn’t return for a fix. Will NOT be returning however the partial of my meal was good. Spent $50 to receive $30 worth of food…

This is a regular stop for us. Great burgers. Love the fries! Always good chili and so many shakes to choose from! As regular customers, we haven't always had great service at this location, but that seems to be much improved since our last visit.

🤠👍 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟+ This particular store is packed constantly. I honestly do not think they have a slow time. This is one of the few places I can actually eat a hamburger and not get sick. Their shakes are fantastic, I could consume a half dozen. Their chili is good and I love their little skinny french fries. 🍔🍟🍿🍔🍟🍿🍔🍟🍿🍔

This was a great visit. Very seldom does this place fail me. The severs are always polite and interact with my children. They are always expanding and changing up the menu, and providing quality food at reasonable prices. Even when all the table are full i have never had to wait longer than five to ten minutes for a seat. I have and do recommend this location. With 25 hour service there is no wrong time to eat here.

Love this place! Staff is always Friendly and Dine in is always clean. The food does sometimes takes a while but worth the wait! Would recommend this location.

Was so excited to see a Steak 'n Shake on our trip to Gurnee Mills. This is by far the dirtiest establishment I have been to in years. Food was mediocre, milkshakes were good, dining area and bathrooms were disgusting....don't look up the dust bunnies all over the vents may disgust you.

Food is good, shakes are great, service can be a little slow. but everything is being made fresh so it’s worth a couple of extra minutes. Just don’t order more than one large drink if you’re taking it to go, The cups are shaped weird and top-heavy and they just barely fit at an angle in their flimsy cupholders, and they can’t handle the weight anyway!

My hotel is right next door so I thought, why not. This place was very filthy and the wait times to get your food are ridiculous. However, that burger was amazing and probably the only saving grace for not reducing the rating lower.
