Extremely disappointed with our stay at the Vale. It's gone massively downhill and is looking very tired. Bed wasn't made properly with bare mattress showing. Carpet had stains, kettle was filthy, shower wasn't clean. Room smelt very strongly of men's deodorant when we entered. The jacuzzi wasn't working which was also disappointing. At breakfast the mugs and coffee pots were filthy, and sausages tasted revolting like they'd gone off. When we raised this with staff they said they were in date and fine. Spoke to an operations manager before we checked out and he told us if we were ill we'd never be able to prove it! Also tried to tell us that the pink shower mould was cleaning products! The only positive of the stay was that the reception staff were lovely. But overall we've had better at a premier Inn. Definitely not worth the price and they obviously don't take feedback seriously. There's better spa hotels in South Wales for less money.

I attended a charity event this weekend in the Castle Suite. This review is focused on the poor service provided by the venue. The event had c. 150 guests, and it was a warm summer evening, so it was pretty warm at the venue. Firstly, the venue had two bar staff working, which meant long waits to be served. Secondly, they did not provide any water for the many tables (apparently, they would not provide jugs of water for patrons). This meant people queuing to get pints of water for the table, which compounded the problem of the shortage of bar staff. Thirdly when asked about providing any alcohol-free alternatives, one was met with a curt, 'We have run out. There is none. I wondered if they had any in any other bars across the resort - this was rudely rebuffed. Finally, we ordered and collected three bottles of wine for our table. The bar person passed me the bottles. They were warm. I asked if we could take the bottles from the fridge as I assumed they would be cold. This was met with a tut and eye roll from the staff. I'm not too picky, but warm white wine is hardly me being a demanding customer. I expected little food for these mass-catered events, but the food was OK. However, they were meant to serve tea/coffee. This did not turn up for any table. We were provided milk and sugar but no hot drinks after the meal for any of the tables. At a minimum, the resort should donate the price paid for this by the guests to the charity as nobody received what was outlined in the fixed menu. Overall, the venue seemed unable to cope with what I thought would be a normal event for a place this size. Clearly, they cannot manage. I was thinking of taking my extended family to the resort's Christmas lunch and New Year’s event but based on this experience. I'll not bother. The service is shocking.

Very nice staff but.. It was a very hot day and there was no air conditioning... The lift was broken so my friend who has mobility issues found it very hard work climbing the many stairs to the presentation room... We had to wait forever to be served at the bar... The buffet was nothing special sorry to be a moaning minny... The location though is awesome...

The hotel room was lovely, the food in the evening was absolutely beautiful. Friendly check in and very accommodating. I’m extremely disappointed in the Spa, we have full use of the Spa along with a treatment (which was lovely) however the relaxation areas have gone down hill abit. The comfortable throws have been taken away, the beds were not like these used to be, very hard and not very comfortable at all, extremely disappointing let the experience down. :-(

Impressive set up - particularly if you like sports and leisure. It’s a big operation but good helpful staff make it work well. We did a work dinner and drinks. Gym is outstanding. Rooms are decent size and modern. Huge comfy bed. Modern bathroom - although shower over bath is never to my liking. Decent but not great breakfast.

As an expat on holiday here from France, booked in for an overnight spa treatment, we really felt that the wow factor we got from the website was missing. The massage was excellent and the staff in the spa very friendly and accommodating. High tea was good too. However, despite a lovely big room and nice bathroom, the cleaning wasn't 4 star. The carpet and bathroom hadn't been vacuumed and some surfaces were missed. I found rubbish under the plastic bag in the bin so it hadn't been emptied properly. Also, the bed was badly made. Door and lift panels hadn't been cleaned in a while throughout the hotel which is not acceptable in a luxury resort. The restaurant and bar didn't feel 4 star at all. Our evening meal was from a specific menu and again nothing special. Our waitress was a young girl but she did very well. The most shocking thing was the amount of food people were taking from the breakfast buffet when leaving the restaurant the next morning. Times have changed. It was also a noisy resort , doors banging in the corridor and you could hear other guests talking when in your room. We paid a lot, expecting a luxury resort which we didn't get. I think it has seen better days and definitely needs a bit of renovating.

Booked to stay overnight with a round of golf on the Sunday. The rooms were smart and tidy. Service in general was fine and the staff were pleasant. The food in the grill was average with supplements for a cheeseboard containing quite small portions of cheese. Disappointing that our partners were only allowed to use the spa and facilities for one hour on the day of departure, bearing in mind that we couldn't book in until 3pm on the day of arrival. The Vale might want to review this? Unlikely to return unless purely for golf

We recently held our daughter’s wedding at the Vale. The planner was excellent, along with all of the staff. The man on reception (Gareth, I think his name was) was friendly, helpful and funny. The grounds are great for photos and the function room and wedding room were well planned out. The food was hot and very tasty and delivered in a timely manner. Breakfast was very nice too. On the negative side, it’s impossible to get a reply to an email, speak to someone on the phone or contact reception by phone. The wedding party ate the night before the wedding, although the food was good, the service was very slow. On the whole, I feel that this is an excellent venue for a wedding and would recommend it and definitely visit again.

We had a fabulous stay. Family room super comfortable and cleaned impeccably each day. Food was amazing; ultimate breakfast choices and a lovely dinner menu. We loved visiting the pool - the staff made it easy to navigate. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The staff in the dining room were very friendly.

Absolutely wonderful few days break celebrating a family birthday & graduation combined at this outstanding venue. The Vale Resort is just pure joy to immerse in a traditional Celtic warm welcome with amazing sincere service across-the-board. Special mention to Gareth Jones on Reception today for impeccable understanding and huge support. Top guy & exemplary representation 👏🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Recent stay, Great reception team Room lovely & nice bathroom. Had difficulty sleeping due to the noise levels from other returning guests, I went to bed at 01:00 & it was much later than this & didn’t happen just once throughout the night. Breakfast was good, great standard & selection of food, coffee a bit weak though. Lovely & warm throughout on a very cold night.

2 good courses, not able to play Lakes due to terrible weather conditions. The National Course is VERY challenging, long but is really designed and set up for pro and very low handicap players. Lot of water in play and many holes where you must drive 230 yards + to reach fairways. Played 18 Sept 23 and course already pretty wet and fairway puddles in places. Buggies restricted to paths only. Restaurant food OK but a bit nouveau cuisine in content. I eat a wide variety of food but did not feel menu reflects the type of food suited to most golfers palates. In particular the clubhouse menu does not offer bacon or sausage sandwiches or rolls, basic golfing fare - UNBELIEVABLE. NEVER encountered that in 50 years + of golf experience. -

A wonderful resort with a perfect spa (pool is massive and sauna/steam perfect) and the restaurant food was delicious. Friendly welcome at the hotel and rooms are lovely. Surrounded by gorgeous green fields and scenery. The food in the restaurant is outstanding - the asparagus and steak with amazing. Highly recommend

Attended a wedding here. The function rooms were tired, carpets showing age, chairs and soft furnishings had almost no support in the bottoms. Very tired and in need of a major refresh. Our room was very poor. Again, tired and in need of an update. Bathroom however was very good and modern. Room didn't have a fridge. Bed linnen was poor, mattress cover was stained, it also had a single bed mattress protector turned sideways across the double bed! We were so disspapointed, we decided not to stay the night. I did email the resort with my comments but no response given. On a positive note, the wedding was a stunning sucess due in no small part to the outstanding high quality of the staff present.

This review is for the SPA experience package. Me and my best friend visited on the 5/8/23. We were greeted by 2 lovely ladies. Who explained everything to us, really made us feel welcome. We were told that the jacuzzi and steam room were out of order and if it wasn’t fixed by the time we left we would get a return voucher. We were shown around the spa and asked if we had any questions. The rooms were so lovely and quiet, it was nice and peaceful with soft music and lighting. We had the afternoon tea in the package, which was lovely and fresh plenty of choice. I opted for the full body massage which was done by the lovely therapist Victoria. She made me feel so welcome and relaxed. She was really polite and softly spoken. I didn’t realise how knotted up my back was until she had finished, I felt amazing!!! Thankyou to you all the ladies at the spa it was a lovely afternoon. Will definitely be visiting again. It was s shame we couldn’t use the jacuzzi and steam room but as promised we were given a voucher. Can’t wait to return.

Having booked a double room, we were given a family room for 5 people. Huge. Service slow on reception and no one picking up messages or calls to hotel. So couldn’t answer any queries. Huge buffet breakfasts with plenty of choice. Restaurant staff busy and short staffed. The wedding venue was stunning and huge. Airy, light and well decorated.

Liked staying here. Friendly staff. Modern gym. Views from terrace over golf course are nice whilst enjoying breakfast from the wide buffet. A walk round Hensol Lake also takes in the rugby grounds and castle. Only criticism was the hotel room looking tired and dated.

First impression was great, the grounds are clearly well maintained and the building looks good. Parking is nearby the main entrance and reception, I was able to find a space with ease. Check-in time was busy and I would have expected more staff at the front desk, however, all my questions were answered, and the service was friendly. The rooms are a bit dated and tired, could do with refurbishing, the bathroom appeared to be updated with modem features. Overall, the room was clean and tidy, the view was great, and the bed was comfortable.

Great place to stay, the beds are fantastic!!! The views at breakfast and with your meals are spectacular. The staff were really friendly. Definitely worth another stay over.

Fabulous location but the hotel's reservation system seemed to be in disarray when I stayed. It was hard to get through on the phone and the website noted it was taking two days to answer reservation emails! I don't like leaving negative reviews, and hardly ever do, but this was not a good showing. The staff were pleasant, no issues there.

Recently visited the Vale Resort for golfing weekend. The staff in the pro shop were very helpful especially Hannah who advised me on golf clubs and other golf courses that I should visit in the area. Will be visiting again next year and won't hesitate to recommend to friends and family

We enjoyed a spa break. During the day we had a massage and use of the spa and a light lunch. Lunch was delicious, the massage was incredibly relaxing and we enjoyed the pool, sauna and steam room. Later, we enjoyed drinks in the bar and a 3 course dinner. We both had steak which was cooked perfectly. The staff throughout were very friendly and attentive. The suite was very impressive - huge bed and bathroom and there was a terrace at the front. Shower was powerful and plenty of hot water. At breakfast there was a wide variety of delicious food. I’d highly recommend.

Overall the complex is superb. The two golf courses are excellent and in great condition. The hotel has very good facilities and provides s good service. I was there on a golfing package Sunday/Monday 22nd/23rd May and our evening meal was good with the staff coping well with us and several other parties. The lower "Service" score is a reflection of the service we experienced in the "Golf Clubhouse after our rounds of golf. The staff on duty did well but it was quite clear there were nowhere enough staff to deal with all the people wanting eat and drink before and after their rounds; a 30 minute wait for a simple cheese baguette/sandwich! That said it was still a really good experience

Lovely visit again to The Vale Resort. Rooms are very spacious and spotlessly clean with plenty of facilities. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is buffet style and is always hot and fresh. Lovely views and walks around the hotel. Can't wait to visit again.

Overnight stay in this beautiful and very quiet resort that was very relaxing and peaceful. The staff here are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble for them. It is advisable to book a table in advance if you wish to eat in, as it seems very popular. The rooms and the hotel throughout are of a high standard and very clean. A stay here is highly recommended.

Vale Resort the night before my wedding. I knew the venue was beautiful from attending a previous wedding fayre, but I was overwhelmed by how amazing the staff were during my visit. Before I arrived I was a very anxious bride counting down the hours for my special day to start, but very quickly I was too busy relaxing to look at the clock! From start to finish the staff went above and beyond. They offered to help me with anything and everything without me even asking. The ladies on reception were extremely kind and seemed so genuinely excited to know about our wedding, which was really touching. There were two ladies at reception in particular (one was called Rebekah and unfortunately I didn't grab the other ladies name but she was at Hensol also on my wedding day!) I've never experienced a nicer team and they made the whole day so welcoming and special. Thank you all so much!

We didn't stay at the resort, we visited it as a spa day. The place is great but really does need an upgrade as it is starting to look tired. The showers by the pool side are awful and only stay on for between 3 & 4 seconds. The place on the whole was excellent, the service was great and the food was lovely. Would be nice to see some upgrade to decoration as ot is a 5 * resort but really should be 3.5* maximum.

Had a complimentary round today on Wales National as I am bringing 55 golfers back in September for a golf tour. Received excellent service from Linda Taylor, sales manager who has helped organise the tour. Arrived early today and had a spot of lunch in bar next to the Pro shop. Cheddar cheese baguette sounds basic, but it came with salad, coleslaw and crisps and was very nice and well presented. Met the manager of the Pro Shop Dave Clifford who was also very helpful. The Wales National course (1st time I've played it) was in excellent condition and we all commented in our 4ball what a great course it was. Can't wait for September ⛳️😊

Didn't stay but had Christmas lunch here with family in the Vale grill. Room was decorated beautifully as were the dining tables. Our waitress, Megan, looked after us well and nothing was too much trouble for her. Food was delicious and plentiful. Highly recommended

The resort is very nice, with friendly staff, great facilities and 2 very good golf courses, which are very challenging. The food was also great, with plenty of options available. Rooms were clean and spacious, all in all a great place to have a break away!

Had afternoon tea yesterday which was superb. The waiter was friendly and kept checking that we had everything we needed and kept us topped up with tea. The quality of the food was excellent and and a fab selection. We sat in the conservatory, the atmosphere was lovely. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all 6 of us. Highly recommend 👌

We went for a spa stay and thought everything was excellent! What impressed me most was how great all the staff were. From reception, the spa and the restaurant - everyone was really friendly and professional. Thank you Hamida for a relaxing massage! Nice afternoon tea too. Our hotel room was large and the “double” bed was more like king size because it was 2 beds pushed together. Decent walk in shower and large bath. Lovely grounds to wander around, though be aware than much of the area is a golf course for golfers only. Friendly gym on site and pleasant pool. Obviously the hot tub was full most of the time and families bring kids to the pool, so consider that in your plans. Hope to come back again when I’ve saved up!

Quiet location close to the Royal Mint. Lovely grounds/golf/sports etc. Large, clean Spa, with good, wide 20m pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool bath and much else. Restaurant food was pretty tasty, comprehensive breakfast. Good service throughout our stay; very helpful minibus driver got us out of a spot of bother for which we were very grateful, but unfortunately weren't able to tell him so upon our return to the hotel as he had gone off duty!

We both enjoyed body massages and were wonderful. The light lunch was so nice and plenty of choice. We had amazing Clarins facials all in all a great birthday treat .

Came for a 3 night stay with the in laws to relax and play golf before I go overseas to work for 3 months. The hotel is an almost bipolar contrast in levels of service. Some of the staff are excellent, but they are few, and limited to the golf shop and spa. Having said that I was charged £4.40 for 2 glasses of tap water with lime cordial in the golf club. The remainder in the main hotel are pretty awful...some even rude. The hotel itself is desperately tired. In need of renovation...having said that having 6 tonne dumpers full of rubble drive past the conservatory at 7:30 in the morning while having breakfast is not on....I felt for the guests who may have arrived late and attempted a lie in on a break. Building sites in the UK don't start until 8. That's not a complaint its the law!!! Wouldn't return if I were paid. Update : Posted review at breakfast... just had dinner in the bar restaurant. Ordered pasta but without capers and olives. Came with both and was cold...also had great chunks of oil soaked sun dried tomatoes (not on the menu) . Asked for it to be hot and without the SD tomatoes. Waited 20 minutes....was colder than before and had the SD tomatoes. One of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had.

Love the Vale. Is out on a limb a little bit the facilities are nice. Eating in the grill isn't as good as it used to be but still nice. Breakfast really good! Golf course - lovely, despite the very damp conditions just before we played!

Treated lovely by my wife to be.. had the full spa day!! The ladies upstairs were super helpful and very customer friendly. The treatment I had was well needed, my body needed a good oiled M.O.T My wifey loved the ambiance and the gym.

Our annual golf break was most enjoyable as always. Rooms are clean, staff friendly and course in good condition. A better choice of real ale and wider menu would be nice.

Enjoyed a lovely couple of hours at the spa. 50 mins massage, 2 hour access to the facilities and a buffet lunch. Very nice and good value, especially with a special offer on. My therapist, Victoria, was very good and the drift away relaxing massage was certainly relaxing. The facilities are very well maintained and the ambiance is just what you need for a relaxing spa experience.

My wife and Myself stayed here last weekend. We were very impressed particularly with Gareth Jones on reception. He was very welcoming, hospitable, friendly and helpful. Always greeted us when he saw us passing through reception. When we did have an issue with our room being close to the air conditioning units. He ensured we were moved to a quieter part of the hotel. A Credit to the hotel I would say 👍
