The place is very lonely, it's advised to visit the place in group and that too before sunset. There is no hotel, stall or dhaba nearby. Must carry snacks and water by own or else situation can be critical. The place have its scenic beauty and landscape. The group of temples also provide an account of ancient Indian architecture and religious beliefs. But these group of temples are not properly maintained by the Government. One can reach there only by either private vehicles or by booking vehicles. There is no public transportation to this place.

Beautiful groups of temples are situated near Gwalior and are known as the bateshwar mandir. These temples come under an archaeological survey of India. I have visited this place on 26th Feb 2022. The distance from Gwalior is 34kms by road. We visited the site on two wheeler from gwalior. We started from gwalior in the morning around 8:20 am and we reached bateshwar around 9:10 am. There was only one patch of road after shanichara mandir which was a little bumpy else the road is fine. So if you are travelling from gwalior to bateshwar you can take the route to airport road following the shanichara mandir road you will reach the place in 50 minutes. We took the same route and reached the temple within 50 minutes. Bateshwar Temple is a worth visiting one, such a clean campus of the temple. Beautifully constructed and maintained a small group of temples looks amazingly incredible. Still, construction work is going on there but you can visit and have a darshan of bateshwar temple which dedicate to shiva and Vishnu. The place and surroundings are so relaxed and peaceful. Temple have two small water kund, from where you can fill the bucket and use the water to offer on shivling. Beautiful place in Madhya Pradesh and a must-visit.

The Bateshwar Temples are located a little over 34 km from Gwalior. You can cover this temple complex, the fortress of Padavali and the Chausath Yogini Temple at Mitaoli in half a day if you leave from Gwalior at 8 am. What is Bateshwar famous for? Bateshwar is famous for its temple complex. Until some years ago, the complex was in complete ruins with dacoits having made their home there. Today several of the temples have been painfully restored. How many temples are there in Bateshwar? At the moment there are 80 temples in Bateshwar that have been completely restored by the Archaeological Society of India (ASI). However the original temple complex had over 200 temples that were built between 8th and the 10th centuries AD by the Gurjara Pratihara dynasty. Who built the Bateshwar Temples? The Bateshwar Temples were built by the kings of the Gurjara Pratihara dynasty between 8th and the 10th centuries AD. Which river flows in Bateshwar? Bateshwar is the birthplace of the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpayee. The River Yamuna flows along Bateshwar.

How Hanuman ji in this temple complex has shown the right place of kamadev....from students to archeologists and from antique thieves to dacoits why this place was so popular....how this great learning place has seen its best to worst days and now how ASI has been working on it from some decade to solve the rubble puzzle to make it look as it was during it’s inception...you must visit this place besides kakanmath and other group of temples nearby

A 9th century complex of 203 temples between Morena and Gwalior. All completely destroyed. About 80 odd of which have been re-erected to their original grandeur under guidance and supervision Mr KK Muhammad of ASI. We must be obliged to him for his incessant quest to bring such forgotten and hitherto unknown and invaluable heritage back to its glory. Must visit place less than 30km from Gwalior.

This is just one hour drive from Gwalior. Very beautiful place. We can spend enough time to enjoy the architecural beauty of this sight. Needs to be protected because it speaks about our rich culture. ASI is developing the site. There is no entry fees. No waiting time. Wheel chair acceble place. Beautiful lush greens 😍. There are no shops near by this area so keep water and food with you if you're visiting around lunch time. I recommend to visit during winter season. This is an ideal place for short picnic. History and photography lovers will enjoy 😉 this place.Peacefully we can spend an hour and more than that here. No monkeys and stray dogs. Washrooms facilities needs to be improved. Washrooms available outside but it was closed.

The Bateshwar group of temples is a complex of over 200 Hindu temples located near Bateshwar village in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, India. The temples are dedicated to various Hindu deities, with Lord Shiva being the primary deity worshipped there. The temples of Bateshwar are known for their architectural and historical significance. They were built between the 8th and 10th centuries during the reign of the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty, which was a prominent dynasty in North India during that period. The temples exhibit a blend of architectural styles, including Nagara and Dravidian influences. The Bateshwar temples were initially constructed in a linear pattern along the Yamuna River, but over time, they fell into disrepair and were largely abandoned. However, efforts have been made to restore and preserve the temples in recent years, leading to a revival of their religious and cultural significance. Today, the Bateshwar group of temples is a popular pilgrimage site and attracts devotees and tourists alike. The complex hosts an annual cattle fair known as the Bateshwar Mela, which is one of the largest cattle fairs in India. During the fair, thousands of devotees gather at the temples to take part in religious rituals, including bathing in the holy river and offering prayers to the deities. The temples of Bateshwar offer a fascinating glimpse into the rich architectural heritage of India and provide a serene and spiritual atmosphere for visitors. You can visit bateshwar temples in any season but rainy and winter seasons will be perfect. Stay can be at Morena or Gwalior. Feel free to ask any questions or doubts.

Excellent fabulous and stunning group of temples from the 9th century. They are still excavating the area but you will be surprised by the number of small n big temples, their design, structure, architecture n make. Simply Gorgeous and jaw dropping in aww that how could it look in real. Truly historical, extraordinary temples of yoginis and a lot of Shiva lingas & Nandi all around are found. Recently they have found a Hanumanji idol which they are yet to explain!

More than 1000 years old series of lord Shiva temples. Each temple build up as devotion towards completion of education. Temples were demolished by invaders . You can easily find idols with broken heads ,which is symbolic. Govt trying to recreate/ conserve it since year 2000. Awareness of this place is still very low and history is partially known. Must visit place which have hidden but historical importance.

Bateshwar Group of Temple’s Morena is a remarkable site of historical and religious significance. It is a cluster of nearly 200 ancient Hindu temples, mostly dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Shakti, built between the 8th and 10th century CE by the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty. The temples are located in a scenic setting, surrounded by the ravines of the Chambal river and the lush greenery of the forest. The temples showcase the exquisite craftsmanship and architectural style of the post-Gupta period, with intricate carvings, sculptures and spires. The site was restored by the Archaeological Survey of India with the help of local villagers and former dacoits. *IMPORTANT*: Really Nostalgic place to visit, DO NOT FORGET TO BRING WATER AND FOOD.

History says it was built by the Gurjar community in the 8th or 10th century. Later due to the earthquake it was destroyed. Then people have stopped visiting thinking some bad omens are there. There were around 200 temples of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Mata ji. Resortation started in 2017 and now it looks amazing. There is no ticket and you must visit the place. Around 20-30 km from Gwalior and Morena. The roads are very good but you will not see much on the way so be packed with everything.

Bateshwar is a group of 200 hindu temples and their ruins. Magnificent, majestic, out of this world even when they are in ruins. It is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) north of Gwalior and about 30 kilometres (19 mi) east of Morena town. The temples are mostly small and spread over about 25 acres (10 ha) site. They are dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Shakti - representing the three major traditions within Hinduism. ASI have done a remarkable job in restoring the temple. ASI Officer KK Mohammed has led the restoration work and we all should be thankful to him. Even the chambal dacoits have done so much help in restoring it. The site is likely named after the Bhuteshvar Temple, the largest Shiva temple at the site. The centre has a kund and the water in that kund never disappears

The Bateshwar Hindu temples are a group of nearly 200 sandstone Hindu temples and their ruins in Morena, Madhya Pradesh. The temples are mostly small and spread over about 25 acres (10 ha) site. Fun Facts: 1. Most temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva while some are dedicated for Lord Vishnu. 2. Bateshwar Group of Temples were built much before the creation of Khajuraho Temples. Unfortunately, these legacies were lost in the string of times. 3. Bateshwar Temples were constructed during 8th to 11th century by the Kings of Gurjara-Pratihara Dynasty. 4. Bateshwar Temple Complex was occupied by dacoits before the ASI entered to examine the locality. one of the main dacoits ( Nirbhay Singh Gurjar) was the descendant of Gurjara-Prathihara community. 5. K.K.Muhammud and his team initiated a talk with dacoits and convinced them about restoring this temple complex. In the end, dacoits agreed for this process and even helped the workers in restoring the temples. 6. Now the Bateshwar Temple Complex is completely empty and it only belongs to ASI. Half of it has been restored and it is one of the beautiful complex of temples in Madhya Pradesh.

Bateshwar is an archaeological site, with lots of small temples and their ruins. Very nice place to visit and to get glimpses of our old temples and their architecture. The place is very clean, good parking facility, ladies and gent toilets are also their next to parking area. Pack your own food and water as the location don't have many shops nearby. There is a small kund, covered completely with algae. I noticed lots of fishes once I started giving them food (Atta Goli) ;-) Most of the temples are having Shree Shiv Linga in them. Watch your foot as the stones are little up and down. For us it took 30-40 mins to visit. If you are planning for a day trip you can also go to: Shree Shani Chara Temple -> Bateshwar -> Padhavali -> Mitaoli -> Jain Mandir near Sihoniya -> Kakanmath, which are near by by points in the range of 30-40 KMs. Please do not litter and help in keeping our national heritage places clean and green. 🙏

Thanks to KK Mohammad sir...he has enlivened this place. This place is situated far away from the hustle bustle of the city. Do not forget to bring your own water bottle. Good thing about this place is that it is situated very close to 64 yogini temple and Mitaoli vishnu temple. So you can visit three place in one go.

A hidden gem in desert of Dholpur, Rajasthan. The roads are bad and almost not motorable, but hope they'll improve shortly. The digging in the temples is still going on by ASI and they are finding more and more structures. Worth a visit inspite of difficulties we faced in reaching there. Heritage place of India being recognized.

ASI is doing a wonderful job of restoring these 1000 year old group of marvelous temples. The work is still going on. However, the ASI has developed a little garden which looks amazing in monsoon season and put other essential things in place for tourists for example a toilet (running water isn't available though). This is a bit away from the nearest cities Gwalior and Moraina but the road to these temples was amazing. There were no tickets for entry into the monument area.

The temples were so good and all in all it was worth it to go there and watch our cultural history in all its glory. The restoration work of the temples is still going on in full swing and the progress so far is really good. The major drawback there was that the washrooms weren't usable with no water supply and they weren't even cleaned.

So let us start with how to get there... It is around 50km away from gwalior. So there are 2 ways to reach it depends on where you are coming from Gwalior or coming from Agra. You can choose either of the roads no matter where you come from but i am not going to tell you about the roads...you have to depend on ur luck. Now,for the experience.... It's a great historical place but you won't find any guide to tell you about the various architecture (atleast we didn't find one) it's spread over a large area in the midst of mountains. The temples are really eye catching and the views are just breathtaking. It is a great place to click great photos(that's what we did), but you can also read about it briefly at the writing block there. Also go to mitavali and padavali while you are there. All in all a great experience. you have to be there once, the drive is worth the visit.

Bateshwar (35 kms off Gwalior) is a sight where hundreds of Siva temples are being reconstructed by the ASI. It is understood that there were about 200 sandstone temples spread over around 20 acres. These temples are believed to be built between 8th and 10th century during the Gurjara~Pratihara period. Around 100 temples are reconstructed. This work is severely hampered by the pandemic and paucity of funds !!

On an elevated platform this old temple and ruins gives you feel of Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider. Amazing greens and old architecture. You will like it if you have taste for old architecture. For people who wants to photo shoot or get a new dp this place might be a great pick.

Unique experience to see so many temples structures together. Most of the standing structures are restored and there are still many which needs to be restored. Very few visit the place, so will be peaceful. Overall a very good offbeat place to visit

Recently unearthed beautiful temple complex of more than 200 temples in Morena district. It is open to tourists just three years before since 2018. Located amidst hillocks temples are dedicated for Shiva. Each temple has Lingam. Connecting roads need to be built for attracting tourists. One will definitely get Awe feeling and start pondering over our rich heritage. Very near to Gwalior, this place may be added in the list of tourists spots of Gwalior...along with Fort.

    (Translated by Google) Apart from being a splendid holy place, there is such peace and peace here that people are looking for in today's bustling life. People have access to this work because this place is isolated from the urban dazzle and this is the specialty here. I did not feel like going from here even after spending 3-4 hours here. After staring intently at a temple and corner of the place, a 15-16 minute video was made on the history and present of this beautiful place. If you wish, you can imbibe this magnificent heritage by clicking the link given below. These ravines are still buried in magnificent historical sites like Bateshwar.

Bateshwar group of Temples is a must visit for architects and historical monument enthusiasts. People rarely visit here mainly because the road leading here is in pretty pretty bad shape. No entry ticketing here. And you will find the place empty except 2-3 caretakers. This group of Temples fully took shape over a period of 300 years (6th to 9th century), which was later brought down by other Invaders. The delapidated remains are the structures which are preserved by ASI. Multiple dynasties contributed to the temple hence you will see atleast 2 distinctly different types of structures here, one, flat roof temple structures, second dome type structures.

Next time plan to visit this place along with Agra trip. it's a group of small temples and temple ruins which was constructed Post Gupta Period.Strong and well carved ancient rocks with scripts or pictures , so many small temples with shivlings are there. This is so amazing that most shiva temples survived the time test, though other small temples could not.Site is under restoration by MP Government. You can feel the serenity, peace and divinity. Visiting this place will make you feel as a part of our glorious history. There is a slightly big shiva temple.A rain water storage area with well connected drainage system is a surprising fact. We have been religious but scientific as Hindu Dharma depicts it clearly there. Around 5 km road patches connecting to this place is not so comfortable but it is worth taking pain. Om Namo Shivay,🙏

This is very beautiful place and remind us our rich heritage.. It contains ruins of temples and the reason behind it is not very clear. But restoration work is in progress by ASI team lead by Mr. K.K.Mohammd. They have restorted about 70-80 templeas and in total of 200 temples... This place is only about 35-40 kms from Gwalior situated in Muraina district.. Anyone can cover it by their own vehicle from Gwalior.. Best time to visit this place in winters - from Oct - Mar..

Oh my god...This is what one says when u enter the premises of this very ancient remains of the temple structure. The entire area is jow being developed by MP Govt to be one of the oldest and biggest and finest places to visit near Gwalior. The remains fascinated with the architectural abilities at that times when modern studies were missing.

A true marvel, situated near Morena town, it's a cluster of about 200 temples dating back to 8th century. The place is almost rubble but ASI is in the process of restoring the place. It's in the middle of nowhere, so there are no shops or people around. Also, being an unpopular destination, it's most likely that there will be just you alone when you visit there. As such we didn't feel any safety issues. However, considering that there's nothing nearby and even mobile networks barely work in the whole area, it's better to visit in the morning only. Also, I'd highly recommend downloading offline maps of the whole area before going there, so you can find your way out. Proper parking area is there with public washrooms.

The Bateshwar Hindu temples (or Batesara, Bateśvar) are a group of nearly 200 sandstone Hindu temples and their ruins in north Madhya Pradesh in post-Gupta, early Gurjara-Pratihara style of North Indian temple architecture.[1] It is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) north of Gwalior and about 30 kilometres (19 mi) east of Morena town. The temples are mostly small and spread over about 25 acres (10 ha) site. They are dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Shakti - representing the three major traditions within Hinduism. The site is within the Chambal River valley ravines, on the north-western slope of a hill near Padavali known for its major medieval era Vishnu temple. The Bateshwar temples were built between the 8th and the 10th-century.[1] The site is likely named after the Bhuteshvar Temple, the largest Shiva temple at the site. It is also referred to as Batesvar temples site

It is around 35 km away from Gwalior rail station. It can be developped as a popular tourist spot. Excavation is still in progress. The group of temples already excavated and renovated have beautiful sculptures carved on stones.

The Bateshwar group of temples is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Indian history and architecture. The intricate carvings on the Shiva temple are truly stunning and a testament to the skill of the artisans who built it. The surrounding area is also incredibly beautiful, with lush greenery and peacocks roaming around. If you're in the Morena area, I highly recommend taking the time to visit the Bateshwar group of temples.

Very nice place....You will have a divine feeling by coming here. Very simple and easy route from Gwalior and Morena.. Near the Bateshwar temple, you will also find a group of temples of Shanidev temple, Mitavali and Padavali, which is not just a temple, it is a wonderful piece of architectural art.

Great work by ASI to reconstruct the temple group from ruins. Must visit if you are nearby Gwalior. 10 mins distance is Chaushasth Yogini temple. Another Marvel. We missed though. Didn't know it was so close by.

It's an amazing place to visit. It is situated in the middle of the hills, so if you are looking for peace environment, must visit this place. Not so well developed area like no restaurants, so you have to carry your own food and water if you are planning, to be there for a very long period of time.
