I love the reef. I try to frequent it whenever I can. They have a huge variety of plants, and fish. However I normally come for the shrimp. They have some of the most diverse collection I can find locally. You can also see them breeding in-house in the top tanks. Prices are very reasonable and sometimes cheaper than what I can find online for certain equipment. Staff is very helpful. It also smells really clean. Which is not always the case in some aquarium shops. The only downside I would say is that since it is so nice it can get quite busy, and at times it becomes hard to move around. However, that’s really more of a minor inconvenience at best and it just shows how popular it is.

Did not have the best experience for the first time coming here, but the manager Brandon went above and beyond to make my experience much better. He did everything he could to fix the issue and was very nice and polite. Thank you for making my experience much more pleasant. I recommend visiting this place. They have an awesome manager who will give you a great experience!

Absolutely a great place to get a healthy assortment of your salt water critters! I was impressed at how clean all of the aquariums were! And such beautiful fish! They have a great assortment anemones and clown fish and there very healthy! Will go back definitely!

I have shopped here from the age of 11 years old. For 22 years this shop has always been one of the best places in central Indy that I've found. Go here for your fresh and salt water aquarium needs including live rock, coral, exotic fish, and everything else in between! It is clean, the tanks and their critters are always well maintained. Great place for most saltwater and freshwater tank needs. The associates have always been knowledgeable regarding marine life, and have helped me build multiple saltwater reef set ups. I recommend this place for your purchases, or even to take the kiddos in to awe them and even perhaps some education. Great place.

The shop is wonderful to walk around & there is a beautiful array of things to look at & the selection of fish is amazing. The workers were also friendly while I was in the store. I went in this morning & bought a small SICCE Jolly heater. I got home & got it set up & tested it in a cup of water to make sure everything was safe for the tank. I put it in the aquarium & it won't turn on. I called back to the store as this was only about 2 hours after I had originally purchased it & was told that they cannot swap it out for one that works but that I could bring it in for them to look at it. No guarantees that I would leave with one that worked. I found this to be quite ridiculous considering I bought it there 2 hours prior. It was as simple as swapping it out for one that worked. Keep in mind this was a $20 heater so nothing outrageously expensive. I couldn't imagine if I had bought one that was more expensive. I'm sad to say that I will not be buying anything electronic from here again not knowing if I will get a working product with no replacement.

Really really great place. The atmosphere when you just walk it makes it already but they have basically everything you need; freshwater, saltwater, ponds, and even terrarium and indoor plants. They have a wide and beautiful selection of fish as well as rocks and driftwood. The prices are also very similar to online and have a lot of different name brands. I live an hour away from this place but I still make the trip and skip over petsmart.

None of the big box pet stores had the Pearl Goramies that I wanted for my aquarium. The Reef had them and they were reasonably priced and healthy. I got three of them and nine Candy Cane Tetras and five Bandit Cory's. They're selection is very good. Highly recomend.

This place is really cool! It seems small from the outside but somehow they pack a ton of cool things inside. The layout is well thought out. Saltwater on the left, freshwater on the right. Great aquariums! You can always tell when the fish are happy.

Neat little place, reasonable prices, amazing variety of fresh and saltwater alike. Every employee was either tending to the fish tanks or the plants on the wall out front. They were extremely friendly and tolerated my onslaught of newbie questions with kind yet honest answers. Next time I’m in town, actually every time I pass through town, I will definitely be stopping by!

We got our first betta friend here! Staff was very knowledgeable and helped us figure out what products we needed and they had tons of tank selections. All of the bettas and other fish seemed to be in incredibly healthy condition! They truly care about their animals here. Got a beautiful 10 gallon and with staffs help I feel confident that we will give our new friend the life he deserves :) Will definitely be returning for a fish hide and any other products we may need. Also I want to add that they name all of their bettas in their containers… so cute!

Recently went in to buy plecos that almost no shops ever had, I was very excited! Was looking for a green dragon pleco and a rubber pleco. Unfortunately the staff couldn't locate the rubber pleco despite that he hadn't been bought, but I got my hands on a young green dragon pleco. The plecos were smaller than I expected(I didn't know if they'd be babies or not) so I was worried about acclimation with baby plecos as they can be fragile. But the one I got was very healthy and he's been an absolute gift to own! Absolutely love him! Didn't have a sunken belly or anything when I got him or anything either and had no diseases. He's eaten absolutely everything he's had access to and thankfully was predisposed to Driftwood in the store's tank so he already knew to eat my Driftwood. The staff were friendly, especially when I called them beforehand to verify if the plecos were in stock! I'm forever grateful for getting my dream pleco with no complications! And I've come here many times before and never had any problems!

I visited this place several years ago, before I knew much about the intricacies of fish keeping. Knowing what I do now, today I was completely blown away. The aquariums where beautiful and exemplified passion for the hobby. The store was very clean and well organized. There was also an exciting variety in species available, both for freshwater and marine life. There was also a large selection of naturalistic decor that's difficult to find elsewhere, as in real stones and wood. The staff readily acknowledged me and was able to answer all my questions. I am still in the research phase of setting up my own aquarium, but I know I will be coming back when I'm ready to stock. It's so refreshing to know there's a "pet store" that takes pride in taking care of its animals and fosters enthusiasm for the hobby.

Super helpful staff and have a great selection of plecos and healthy fish! I went in to get supplies that my local fish store doesn’t have. I ended up leaving with a black Molly and a L201 snowball pleco. Sure has a better selection of exotic plecos that a lot of other stores can’t get! Definitely worth the hour drive and will be my go to for a lot of supplies I keep stock of! Great prices aswell!

I feel like they are a little expensive but they care, offer sound advice and willing to listen. Normally has a good stock of houseplants as well. Definitely a good place to go if your looking for aquarium stuff. Parking lot sucks not a lot of room. other than that very nice store.

Indy may not have an actual aquarium, but having a great shop filled with great people so I can have one at home is the next best thing. The reef is always clean, people are knowledgeable and seem to want to actually be there. They're very helpful at fulfilling all of my strange requests and they will remain the number 1 destination for anything I need for my aquarium. They have offered special order fish before, and I imagine they can source plants as well, the only caveat was the amount of fish for the order having a minimum. Fantastic place, really cool just to walk around as well, but try to go before 3 or so, as they do get very busy later in the day.

I have mixed feelings about this place. While they have a great selection, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cool, every marine fish I’ve ever purchased from them dies of velvet a few days after. I’m talking at least 11 fish now. On 4 separate visits. At first I thought it might have been my set up, but even with a fresh QT with no other fish present they exhibit the dusting the next day and quickly pass. I won’t even get a chance to treat properly before they go, as they’re too far gone. It’s incredibly frustrating because I want to love this place. If I had to guess, they probably use a therapeutic level of copper which only masks the symptoms or they don’t quarantine their new fish at all. Just be prepared beforehand if you do purchase fish and make sure to QT as to not destroy your display.

The best aquarium shop I’ve been to. They have everything you can imagine to setup your tank. Healthy fish and plants. Staff seem to love the hobby and are interested in helping with whatever they can. (Attached tank setup made with material from the reef aquarium shop)

Purchased an adorable red eye puffer (pictured in the 1st photo right side towards the top) and hillstream loach for my planted aquarium and both are doing really well! Service was great and our attendant Tim was very knowledgeable, I'll be back more for sure!

The fish are in good health and they have a good assortment. I went there to look for fresh water fish and they have both. They have a lot of live plants and the staff is knowledgeable. I did find the fish a little expensive but good quality and the specialty Bettas were beautiful!

Very happy with our experience and well worth the hour drive. The Reef is well kempt and clean with great lighting and atmosphere. The fish tanks are beautiful, clean, and well maintained. The lady that helped us went the extra mile to answer all of our questions and was very friendly and professional. We will definitely return!

Place is busier than a Shanghai fish market on Sundays. Been going here for 7 years or more and its great to see the place updated recently. Looks great. 🐟 Photos of my 7 year old clownfish attached.

I visited this local store today as a newcomer to owning bettas. I was super pleased with the service I got, a huge thank you to Toby. She was very knowledgeable and very willing to answer all my questions. This is why I shop small business instead of the big box stores. I will definitely return here for all my aquarium needs. Truly a fun experience all around

My daughter has been obsessed with axolotls and the reef aquarium had some in stock so we swung by. The employees were super knowledgeable and helpful. While trying to help us decide if this was going to be a good pet for our life style they showed a lot of patience explaining both the pros and cons.

I love this place. Every time I go I end up spending more money than I intend to. There's so much there, and the workers are always super knowledgeable, or know someone who will be able to find out exactly how to help with any issues. I've been coming here for months and have never been dissapointed. If you have any interest in aquatic life they're the place to go. They also have a great selection of plants if you're into that too.

I think this is Indy's largest independent aquatic pet & supply store. The selection and quality of the marine & freshwater livestock is great (and marine in particular has improved dramatically in the past 12-18 months), and in-house expertise is generally quite good & helpful to new and experienced hobbyists alike. This is the type of place that's fun to visit even if you're not buying anything... Or you think you're not ;)

Great aquarium store! It has been a long time since I went into an aquarium store and found knowledgeable people. The amount and variety of fish was incredible. While the store did not have certain fish I was looking for, I found fish I had never seen before so it was a wash. I do not remember the name of the young lady that helped but she was super friendly and extremely helpful. I will definitely be back.

Great place to go for all your high end fish tank needs. They offer some of the best stuff in the hobby at prices reasonable for the brands they carry. I wouldn't suggest going here if you are unsure if you want to commit to this hobby long term but once you are ready for a forever tank then head on down.
