😠 Absolutely nasty front desk reception help on the phone. I've been a patient here since the early 90s (starting on Fenwick St) and it seems that the quality of help has greatly diminished over the years. Today I called and spoke with a receptionist that started the convo with a huge sigh....like I... People often mention phone, doctor, call, message, appointment, care, doctors, time, hold, clinic,

Absolutely nasty front desk reception help on the phone. I've been a patient here since the early 90s (starting on Fenwick St) and it seems that the quality of help has greatly diminished over the years. Today I called and spoke with a receptionist that started the convo with a huge sigh....like I was bothering her by calling...before I even said a word. Then when I told her I was booking for a prescription refill with my GP it was another huge sigh followed by silence for a few moments. Then without really asking anything else me she just gives me a date and time and then when I try to ask for an alternate date and time I'm literally being talked over like I'm a scolded 2 year old. I DO NOT CARE what is going on in your life or in that office. Most of us cannot go to our jobs and talk to the public like a mob boss that you owe money to. I don't seem to have the same problem when I show up in person and I can't see anything overwhelming or stressful going on behind that glass anytime I'm there. If you don't like your job....quit. HR in charge here needs to take notice because I know from other reviews I'm not in the minority on this complaint.

"Thank you for calling Dalhousie Family Medicine. Your call is important to us. Please stay on the line and your call will be answered in sequence." Stop lying. Also stop repeating this same message every 20 seconds. We hear the awful music. We know we're on hold. Change it to every minute so I don't have to hear it 180 times every time I try and make an appointment. I waited over 50 minutes before my call was answered, so screw anyone who has to work 9-5 I guess. And screw anyone with a disability that impedes their ability to manage lengthy, grating phone calls, for that matter. I've been going here since 2005 and it has gotten progressively worse every year. There is no way to leave a phone message, or any way to book an appointment other than calling and praying someone actually picks up the phone before you have to move on with your day. Sure, they're implementing changes to hopefully improve the service. But you know what? It should have been done ten years ago. My prescriptions have been messed up numerous times. It is so prohibitively difficult to make an appointment to see my doctor in a reasonable timeframe that I had to just go cold turkey on a medication despite it being dangerous to do so. I miss the doctor I actually CHOSE, who left years ago and for a few years after that I was shuffled around to whichever doctor was available until I was shoved at the permanent replacement. I know Nova Scotia treats people in the medical profession horribly, and that everyone is overworked and underpaid, but there is only so far my patience can go. I can't rely on my doctor or the clinic for anything, and it's a symptom of how trash the province's health care system is. If I see any actual improvements in the clinic I'll change my review, but as of now I do not recommend anyone go here unless they have no other option. There are some great doctors there, and amazing nurses, but what does that matter when you can't even get see them when you need to?

I have no complaints about my doctor, however, I would like to know why it's so hard to get through to a receptionist at this clinic???? I have been trying for a few days now, and more than once a day. I get a recording and my call is automatically put on hold, where I wait, and wait, and wait, and wait some more ....... I've been on hold for almost an hour (and am currently on hold as I am typing this), and eventually I have to just hang up without ever speaking to anyone. This is very disappointing as I'm trying to get the results from a test that was done over 2 weeks ago that I haven't heard from anyone about :(

Worst receptionists in the city. Good luck getting an appointment. Oh and when you finally think you do - no one ends up calling!

The Doctors here are very good at their job. They are sure to run tests and follow up with you and ensure prescriptions work. It can be tough to get an appointment, but the wait at appointments is far better than most places.

Zero stars here. Had to give one just to post this review. Some of the doctors are very good but it's forever to get an appointment and I was just on hold for 53 minutes from both my home and cell phones while the voice message said "your call is important blah blah blah'. Then the message switched after 53 minutes to "due to unforeseen circumstances we cannot take your call". WHAT!!! That's because they were closing in another 15 or 20 minutes so they cut all the calls off. I called at 3:50 and they don't close until 5. What were they doing for almost an hour I was on hold. They obviously need to have a meeting with the staff or more telephone lines or a new office manager or something because no other business and yes, this is a business, would get away with that! Totally unprofessional. There is absolutely zero reasons why it should take 53 minutes for any office of this size to answer their phone. This is not the corporate customer service line for a national company. Totally unacceptable. But then what is the public to do......switch facilities!!

New Review: My first review which I gave a 1 star is still below but I stated that I had multiple interactions with the staff over a year's period where I felt they were rude, quick to get me off the phone, uninterested, etc. I wanted to give an update because I felt it was warranted. Over the past 5-6 months every interaction has been the complete opposite. Staff have been friendly, helpful and delightful to talk with on the phone or in person. Although this is a Medical Clinic where student doctors are the front line examiner and still learning, of the three students I've had I can tell they will exceed and do well in life with this profession. I would love to see more Clinics like this open around Nova Scotia to help fix our doctor crisis. Old Review: Their phone service and people behind the desk needs some serious people skills work. Over the period of a year I gave them an excuse first time and second time I've called because people can have bad days but by the third time I reached out to make an appointment it was apparent they are the problem. Unfortunately the clinic won't lose patients because it's near impossible to get a doctor today but eventually it will lead to bad reviews of the medical staff despite their performance.

Staff: Responding to other reviews... If you treat them with respect, you'll be treated with respect. I have never had a problem. Don't blame them for the doctor shortage in N.S. I'm sure they have to put up with patient frustration every minute of every day and it's NOT their fault. Put yourself in their shoes and have some compassion! As for the doctors: If you're their patient, you're a lucky person...a very lucky person! They're honing their skills. They are not working on production but for your care! I've never been in an environment where your care is the number one priority above all else. Bottom line. I had a G.P. for 27 years. The world is changing and Dal Med is at the cutting edge of current medical knowledge and treatment. If you are futune enough to get in, understand you are so very fortunate!

The doctors are great. But I just tried calling at 1:35pm on Monday Oct 30 2023 and I got a message saying they are closed for the day. Although the automated message states otherwise and the clinic is open. I also tried pressing 1 to speak with the on call physician...that didn't work either. The message finishes and hangs up. I am pretty sure my entire family minus my spouse has pneumonia. Going to see if a pharmacist can help me. Turn you phones on Mumford the days not over yet.

Getting through to talk to the front desk is sometimes a challenge, well its a large challenge actually. While I can't say I have had world class service from the reception its not been notably terrible either. The doctors however have taken great care of me and while there is some learning going on here i.e. the residents I felt I received solid care and information for my issues/ailments. Thanks for this!

This is regards to the Unattached Newborn Clinic within the clinic. Shirley and the doctors there have been amazing. They listen to concerns we've been having about our baby and they really do remember their patients! They answer all of our questions and poo t us in the right direction. We're very grateful for the care they've provided our baby.

The clinic administration though still leaves room for improvement. There seems to be a lack of understanding o...
