When you see me posting so many photos mean I am very much love this restaurant. From the decor to the food and to the drinks, I highly recommend this place. The service is pretty good too!

Great spot for a drink and a snack. The happy hour deals are really nice - we got a pitcher of Sangria, oysters (which, at $2 per, are the cheapest we found in the city) and some tapas to finish off. The food was delicious and the prices feel right for the quality.

So good! We went for happy hour and it's an absolute steal. If this place was in Paris, NY, LA, etc. it would be absolutely packed from 4 to 5. Excellent platters and oysters, $10 cocktails, and a cool but unpretentious vibe. We'll definitely be back!

Heard so many great things about this place, so we put it on the 'must-try' list during our trip to Halifax, and I'm so glad we did. Phenomenal experience. Top notch food, atmosphere, and staff. Great place to hangout for a drink, chill or go out on a date while enjoying some quality seafood. We ordered the seafood platter off their Happy Hour menu, which includes a half dozen oysters, 2 chilled seafood dishes and sides. The oysters were delicious and fresh, and the seafood dishes prepared fresh by the chef were perfect compliments to the platter. The whole experience from start to finish was amazing, I will definitely be coming back on my next trip and highly recommend this place to any future travellers!

Went to highway man for the first time last week. We had Kirsten as our waitress, and the service was lovely. Ordered a variety of cocktails and a few beers +shot throughout the night. The cocktails were all very good and the recommendations for which cocktail to go with always matched what I was looking for. The cocktails I had were the cooler cup, Escondido, and the eastbound. We had a few orders of oysters, all of which were really good paired with their hot sauce, lemon, and mignonette dressing. Along with the oysters, we ordered the seafood tower, which was a dozen oysters, and had the scallop crudo and the albacore tuna, there was a third seafood dish but I can’t remember which one it was. The scallops were my favourite of the night. Additionally, we had a dish of the shrimp with garlic and the beef tartare. My partner’s favourite was the beef tartare. The only thing that would have made the experience with the food better, would have been bread. There was so much delicious sauce left over in most of the dishes. Although we ask for “as much bread as possible” for this specific reason, we only were brought two slices. This was the only frustrating/negative part of the evening. Even with the beef tartare, the bread was in short supply… not sure why they’re stingy with their bread portions.

The 2 Best words to describe this place is “Pretentious & misogynistic”. I have been to this restaurant a handful of times since they opened, and each experience has gotten worse. Essentially to get a waiter, waitress, or bartenders attention, you should expect to wear “hipster, influencer attire”, or a suit…. it’s best if you are a male or majority male party as well. Also doesn’t hurt if you have attended St Fx- you’ll get preferential treatment if your a bro from there. Otherwise if you are a hard working, regular citizen from the city or visiting from out of town, you will probably wait for a server to acknowledge you, you MAY get some water offered, maybe not. A lot of the time, when you’re waiting to be greeted, given menus or waiting for your food or drink to come, you’ll note that there is a “bro sesh” usually happening behind the bar around The entrance. There are many many other restaurants downtown Halifax that have the same environment as this one, but you Will be accepted, and taken care of at all of these other spots, no matter who you are or what you look like. I “highly!” Recommend you save your time, money and kindness for other local restaurants who will be happy to serve you and help you make a night out fulfilling and enjoyable. If you do go to this place, I am sorry for your loss. Your loss of time, your loss of money, and your loss of a wonderful evening anywhere else in the city.

Was in tonight for my girlfriends birthday with a few friends. The drinks were fantastic (Margarita, Espresso Martin, and Tequila) and the food was incredible. I cannot overstate how good the food was, it was stunning. Each dish was unique, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Some of the best food I have had in HRM. Service was fast, and attentive. The atmosphere was wonderful, will definitely make this a new spot to frequent!

Cocktail was great, service was excellent, ambiance is fun but pretty much everything we ordered on the menu was too salty, way too salty. But everything looks delicious maybe just the chef that night had covid and didnt recover his sens of taste 🙃

I have been meaning to come here for years. I’m very glad that I had the opportunity this time around while visiting Halifax. Great assortment of foods and snacks, and the bar master made me three awesome cocktails based on my preferences. The place was packed and vibrant but that only added to the appeal and mood! Highly recommend you give Highwayman a try.

A colleague recommended this place. Wow am I glad I visited. It was a difficult choice and I’m so glad I went with the croquetas, they were crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. The I had the pork belly and scallops. Great food and presentation, great staff with interactions with a few of them.

Had a fabulous experience here! Went for dinner and drinks with my brother and his wife and the staff were truly fantastic. I hope they all get the recognition they deserve because they made the whole experience worthwhile. Whether you're seated at a table or posted at the bar, the fun and elegant atmosphere helped set the scene for some delicious nibbles from the wide ranging menu. The Mushroom Risotto with Saffron & Manchego is heavenly and has to be tried. Booking is essential during busy times.

Five friends and I had a fantastic evening here. We each ordered 2 to 3 amazing cocktails, we also got a ton of small plates and we all left feeling perfectly satiated. The food was excellent and so delicious; accompanied by the cozy ambiance and supreme service, we felt right at home. This is not your average restaurant. Come adventurous and willing to try new things. There is so much variety in the menu, I really look forward to my next visit (soon!)

My experience was amazing. Food was top tier, along with service and drinks. I still can't get over how perfect my spicy marg was, the scallop crudo and the gnocchi with pistachio pesto and peas. These were stand outs, but you can't go wrong with anything!

Highway man was good but I think it’s a little overrated if you ask me. The drinks are priced higher than most restaurants in the area but they are delicious. You can tell that a mixologist made the drinks instead of a regular bartender. Don’t expect to leave here full. The sharing platter don’t come with much food. As a group of six we spent almost 600 dollars on drinks and food and still had to go elsewhere for dinner.

The food was delicious, but had its flaws. The yellowfin tuna belly was much leaner than we thought and steak was unevenly cooked - some pieces being cooked to medium while others were cooked to rare. However, the croquetas and scallops were really delicious. The mojo rojo sauce was fantastic as well. The music seemed unnecessarily loud, but that may have been due to the rowdy group that was at the restaurant.

We came here for happy hour and had the best time! Oysters were so so tasty, we got to try three different types from around the maritimes, and the cocktails were insanely good. The vibes were also excellent, decor is so charming and welcoming and the playlist was top tier. Highly recommend for fellow cocktail lovers!

What a cute little spot for an intimate dinner! The tapas options were great to share with each other. Everything was delicious. Our waiter was really nice and attentive too. They also have a nice bar area to get drinks either before or after dinner. Will definitely go back!

We had a really enjoyable Saturday dinner here. All the food was delicious (we ordered several small plates for sharing), and the cocktails really hit the spot for me. Would highly recommend Highwayman and will be going back next time I’m in Halifax.

We got into Halifax late, around 10PM and wanted to have dinner that wasn’t pub food and noticed Highwayman was open until midnight. They have a late night menu that’s packed with so many delicious options it was hard to choose! The smoked trout rillette really stole the show though. It was salty, Smokey and the cucumber gave it a nice crunch and freshness. We also got the bread with tomato, potatoes bravas, and the canned tuna in oil. The tuna comes with bread, an aoili, lemon, olives, and some salt. I loved the idea of building the perfect bite. I highly recommend coming here and I hope we are able to stop by again before leaving Halifax!

This was a solid 4.6 star place, imo. Only sided on the Google 4 for this review because the "croquetas" were disappointing, the breading was very oily, generic and the filling lacked depth. Not worth being on their otherwise great menu! The oysters from NS were incredible, as you'd expect from a NS based restaurant but the woman who served them didn't do the classic "this one is ____ from ____..." I had to flag someone down to ask, which was, just kind of strange to me. I sort of wish I only ordered like 36 of the NS ones, with a small side but I wanted to try a few things. The cocktails were decent and the bartender was chill. Would definitely come back, the ambiance is nice. FYI, the place also attracts those 30-45 something sleezy businessmen if you like being chatted up by dudes who are probably looking for a one-night stand. (Not that they chatted me up obv, but I felt uncomfortable for the table of young 19-21 yr old girls stuck at a table beside the creeps).

It’s slightly upsetting to have to write this review. The food and drinks were amazing, I would definitely recommend, but the service was not it. Disclosure: we were late for our reservation and were told things may be rushed. Fair enough. However, how this message was conveyed immediately killed the vibe. Throughout the service, the server made passive aggressive remarks about us having limited time. This happened whenever we ordered a drink or a dish. Everything felt rushed and in the end, we felt unwelcome. I think there was a better way to go about the situation; there’s a way to tell a group of people that they have limited time without making them feel like they need to leave as soon as possible. In fact, even though we were late, we only stayed 15 minutes over the two-hour limit. It’s not like we were there an hour over our limit. Anyway, kudos to the kitchen staff for making the food as quickly as they did. It was very well done. Despite the awkward service, I would come back for the food and drinks. FYI: show up for your reservation on time or you may be in store for a not-so-great experience.

Second night in Halifax and another fantastic experience. Thanks to Keegan at The Highwayman in downtown Halifax for the super drinks and excellent conversation. I'm not sure what's going on in Halifax but it's all good. Tasty treats and excellent drinks at The Highwayman. Love this place for the drinks, food and excellent staff. Check it out!!!

Was in Nova Scotia for Daughter's (ST FX) X-Ring Ceremony. Was given the Highwayman as a recommendation to get too while in Halifax. Extremely glad we got the tip. What a great venue, to enjoy fantastic drinks and food. Sat at bar and talked for hrs with one of the owners, Matt, who was a great host and as it turned out, another former ST FX Athlete Graduate. If you ever have the chance to try this place out, I highly recommend it on all levels. You will not be disapppointed. If you appreciate a real drink and great food, this is a must go to in Halifax.

Cute little spot for cocktails! We both ordered gin and tonics, the empress and tanqueray. They were delicious!

🫤 Overall experience was not pleasant. This was recommended by my friend, so we thought to give it a try. Bartenders was fantastic, very professional and helpful all around, however, the waitress on the other side was completely different. Not only she forget to check on our table for about 35 minutes...
