We stopped in for Burger Week without a reservation and thankfully we were able to be seated at the bar upstairs. The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff friendly and inviting, great service. We ordered the Wagyu burger and truffle fries, and wow so delicious. The Five Fisherman is a must try if your looking for good food and great atmosphere and I'd suggest making a reservation if you want to guarantee being seated.

I wish I could give them more than 5 stars! The customer service is beyond anything I've seen anywhere. We made a reservation on OpenTable and placed a note that we were celebrating a couple of things; we didn't expect our note to be read at all. Not only did our waitress Laura acknowledge our celebrations, she completely made our day with complimentary drinks, food and dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious! The seafood was fresh and clean, the linguine was made in-house and not drenched in cream, and the chocolate cake tasted like heaven. I would recommend this place to anyone!

What a treat! Everything on the menu was so thoughtful. Upscale vibes without being pretentious. Thoughtful menu with lots of local fresh catches available for seafood lovers. The tarragon pesto-crusted halibut was incredible! Great prices and portions. Local wines and beer on the menu was a huge plus. Would love to dine here again!

The Five Fishermen stands out from other seafood restaurants in the area with the gorgeous interior decor, and amazing customer service. The entrance of the restaurant is on the first floor, which has a bar vibe (which seems to be closed). When you head up the stairs you are welcomed by classy nautical decor, ample seating options (including a chef's table besides the open kitchen) and friendly staff. Our waitress was very attentive and catered to the table's preferences in wine, hunger levels and desire to try as much of the menu as possible. The food was amazing, with everything prepared perfectly and great portion sizes to share. The oysters, mussels and tuna tartare were huge hits. Definitely recommend!

My friend and I had a wonderful dinner! We enjoyed all the food. The tuna tar tar to start, and my friend got the lobster risotto which she liked but said she found slightly underseasoned. I got halibut which was delicious! and the dessert was amazing, chocolate cake, a pear tart and lemon pavlova. Our server was outstanding! We were celebrating our birthdays and she brought us complimentary glasses of champagne, a small boutique of roses each, and a dessert platter to share with candles!! We were blown away! Highly recommended and we will definitely be back!

The place is surprisingly big and spacious. The interrior design is tasteful and elegant, but not too fancy (in my opinion). The overall atmosphere was quiet although the place was quite busy at the time. The menu is clear and simple, though the food itself is very rich and interesting (also very tasty). The service was attentive, nice and professional. The variety of wines and other beverages is nice. We got our orders fairly quick, and the overall experience was very good. The prices seem a bit on the higher side but reasonable. We definitely got our money's worth. Will return there in the future.

What a fantastic surprise. Went in expecting a good meal but left with an outstanding experience. This meal was a 10. The freshness Of the fish is a difference maker. Service was polite, efficient and friendly. Crafted cocktails at the bar and a good selection of wines. Best meal so far this year. Outstanding!

We didn’t make an appointment but we were allowed to dine at the bar. The food was excellent! Highly recommend the duck breast. The cocktails were amazing—the pandora one was truly delicious. And a whole aesthetic experience too! As well, the bartenders were SO personable and friendly. They were a pleasure to talk to—we had some wonderful conversations throughout the night! Made the whole experience feel like a dinner party—super fun. They were also professional and respectful and made sure that our needs were met. Highly recommend.

Nice atmosphere, good tuna tartare, great lobster Thermidor. Tried my friend's five fish experience and preferred this but I wanted a baked, buttery, cheesy lobster experience.

Oh so good....decor was everything, and the food was spectacular. I had oysters and the 5 Fish experience...so good. But the star was the smoked mushroom tartare my husband ordered...amazing presentation and flavor. His umami rice was also incredible. Not often do vegan options get the same care and attention in a non-vegan restaurant, so this was a magnificent surprise. Our server, Emma, was a delight!!

This place was an absolute gem. Must do! We sat in Five Social but ordered from both the Five Fisherman and the Five Social menus. Definitely pricey but sooooo worth it. The atmosphere was fun, the decor is beautiful, the cocktails are amazing to look at and drink (heads up... for a few of them you're going to want to be ready for a video). Shintaro was our guy and he was so much fun. Think my hubby made a friend for life 🤗. Food: To DIE for! Love fish? Get the Five Fish Dish. Don't love fish? (like me)... definitely get the prosciutto wrapped chicken.

Environment: class, great decor. Food: crab croquettes 3/$15, delicious but some bites can taste more like “filler” than crabs. Tartare: subtle, good, couldn’t really taste any “smoke”. Five fisherman experience: well presented and almost complete. Main gripe is, too much risotto and no greens. Scallops were flavourful, salmon and halibut tasty, seaweed/crispers added texture, shrimps average in size. Overall a good experience.

Atmosphere 5/5 - Menu 5/5 - Service 3/5 - Food 4/5 - Location 5/5 Cocktails 5/5 What a treat to dine at the 5 fishermen this weekend. Such a lovely spot with great music, we had the tuna tartare which was delicious and everything you’d want in such a dish. The lobster tower (which is what drew us to this restaurant ) was tasty. Cocktails were delicious. The tuna & umami fried rice was ok, I felt the mushrooms inside the dish over powered all of the other delicate flavours to the point where it tasted like mushroom fried rice. The restaurant seemed understaffed which gave the feeling of the restaurant being really busy when actually it wasn’t and so things felt kind of slow. But no harm done, overall our server was really nice, the staff thoughtfully served us complimentary champagne and a dessert for our anniversary and we had a great night. I invite you to visit this restaurant if you want an edge up on your typical halifax local fare, this place has a Japanese- Asian flair. You will not be disappointed. Pictured: cocktails south end & sparrows nest, tuna tartare, nori chips, lobster tower, tuna & umami fried rice.

I love the oysters, very fresh and juicy. We got the Fisherman's Experience, various kinds of seafood on a bed of mushroom risotto. The seafood were all too salty in my opinion, the risotto is not bad. Does this restaurant live up to its hype? Maybe not...

Having a kids menu came as a surprise for such a nice place. Staff were friendly and attentive without being invasive. I know most ppl loved the lobster which was decent but my personal fave was the crab cakes. Mussels were interesting in flavour as well with ginger and green onions to have Asian flavouring. Yummy

The food I was good but nothing out of this world. The biggest thing was no flavour to their pasta dish - I actually am not a big salt fan but you still need to salt pasta or add more seasoning or something to make a more well rounded pasta dish! On the other side the scallops were overpowering on the flavour that you don’t actually taste the scallop! The staff were really good and that’s why I am giving it a 4 star. The food was edible just not a stand out place - for the food. Drinks were on point! The Caesar inspired sauce for the oysters was good! Limited dessert options and nothing to knock me off my feet. Food presentation good - flavour needs work - either no flavour or OVERPOWERING

An upscale experience for sure but I don't know that the food necessarily deserved the same? Pricing felt a little too expensive for what was served. Regardless the food was tasty and well made. Service was quick and friendly. Our waiter was so personable which made the restaurant experience feel less formal - because we certainly weren't.

I lived in Halifax in the early 2000s and when I came back for a trip I very much looked forward to coming back to the Five Fishermen. It's obviously changed quite a bit and went upscale, but I was quite disappointed. I expected to be blown away by seafood and I got adequate seafood. No complaints on the food, but it's definitely not the way it used to be, with quantity and quality overwhelming you. The service was extremely disappointing as I waited 15 minutes AFTER being seated to see the server and get our water. We had a reservation, and especially when the establishment is upscale, this never happens. Everything was slower than it should have been. I would always recommend this restaurant in the past. There's just better options in Halifax now.
