A place to remember! It is a small museum right in the downtown. We visited it many times in the past. Sadly say bye to the collection that being displayed for 50 plus years on thanking giving day of 2021, last day to see them. Look forward to seeing the new collection in 2023. This place does require a parking fee, $1.5 per hour but you may find the free parking nearby. The favorite part is to meet the turtle Gus and it will turn 100 years old in August, 2022. You can only see it around 3:30pm at the backyard of the museum when weather permits.

Who can resist a museum, especially natural history! When we were in Halifax, we decided to take a wander and came across this attraction. I do love to learn, so I was in my element in here, so much to learn about native wildlife, habitats, cultural aspects of Nova Scotia and its history. :)

Wonderful place to visit! There are living animals in it, not only false ones!!! Loved the exhibitions and animations! OK, not comparable to the Natural History Museum of NYC, but the interactivity was there and staff is actually cool with their guests (me included!).

It's been a while since I've been there, and it's a great place for families to go, and its fun and educational. The price for adults is like $6 something which isn't bad

Very educational and excellent presentations. The girls with me, loved it. I enjoyed it too. The price is very reasonable too. Gus is cool to see. Would definitely do it again.

Good for small kids but for teenagers and adults it's limit boring. It's fun at the start but the visit is really quick. They need to work on presentation and new articles to add on exhibition. No dinosaurs, no body exhibition...only rocks, few bones of reptiles and dead animals...

Though relatively small, this modest-sized museum definitely punches above its weight, with its wide range of exhibits, kid-friendly activities, and of course Gus, the more than 100-year-old tortoise. This museum is also kind to your wallet, as my family of five (two adults and three children) got in for less than $20! A fun family outing in a lovely part of Halifax.

The museum is just great! Very well maintained. I suggest a visit to everyone not just kids. It’s small but full of things to explore. I visited it during the 100th-year celebration of Gus the Tortoise. He’s soooo cute! I loved to see him. The staff of the museum is amazing, very friendly and they take really good care of Gus and everything else. The old buddy deserves all the love!

An absolute pleasure and worthwhile experience. Amazing exhibits that change over time. The museum is also home to snakes, frogs, turtles, and more.

This is the museum you want to visit the most in Halifax! They have their displays about Nova Scotia animals, foliage, and natural findings on the first floor, and sections about space and earth and the sea, along with displays that come and go, for instance a few months back they had the mammoth exhibit, and a dinosaur exhibit. Currently on display is the Body exhibit. Beautifully displayed and structured human bodies and parts gives you real life insight into the intricate inner workings of our bodies. Dont forget to check out the famous tortoise named GUS who is now 100 years old. My mother saw him as a kid, I saw him as a kid and now, my kid has seen him too!

It is an excellent place for paying a visit - alone or with family. P.S. A bit small, but for the amount of money they ask, it is not a problem. I would love to pay more for more exhibitions:)

Friendly greeting by the staff, and a very helpful description of what to see while I visited. Although the price was reasonable and the exhibits on site were nice, I expected a little bit more stuff. I took my time and I think I was through everything in about 40 minutes.

Although the museum was interesting and informative, I was not expecting so many live animals. I was particularly disturbed at the honeybees being kept in a glass enclosure with no room to move around, let alone fly. The tortoise has a small enclosure with no enrichment. The frogs/snakes/salamanders are in small glass enclosures and cannot escape the public eye if they want to. We were there when a school trip was happening and I imagine the screaming kids were not enjoyable for the animals to be around. This would be a great museum if they did not have live animals

Amazing museum. Very affordable, a lot to see. Plus they have the oldest gopher turtle named Gus , over 100 years old! Amazing place would recommend 100%

Such nice folks working at the Museum and Gus the tortoise is always a charmer! Unfortunately our latest visit was between visiting exhibits and the permanent collection seems sparse compared to even 7 years ago. Still lots of neat animals and displays for the fam!

We visited for Gus, the turtles 101st birthday. We took our granddaughter and she had a blast! Lots of interesting things for all ages to keep the mind busy. Easy 24/7 paid parking on site.

Personally I didn't connect to it very much tho it does have a lot of animals and realistic animals, the only reason why I would give it a 4 star and not a 5 is because I felt like there wasn't much to do apart from the earth globe, look at live animals and the sand tray Note: If you're someone that likes to see stuff more visually then I would recommend this place to you as it has a live bee hive, frogs, snakes and a tortoise. If you're someone who doesn't like reading then I would probably not recommend this place for the sheer amount of reading it has

This museum is a must see when you come to Halifax. Such amazing staff and a huge selection of different artifacts throughout history. I specifically loved the mix with real reptiles, amphibians, and insects. A good place to learn!

Museums should be as interesting as this one. The amazing 100 yr old Gus the tortoise is the highlight. Feeding times with his bud is amazing. The planetarium is so interesting, educational and beautiful. I would love to visit again!

Went on a Thursday and it wasn’t too busy. The Body Works exhibit was incredible to see, so interesting. Also great exhibits about marine life, maritime cultural heritage, along with some wildlife. Students get a discount. Quick but sweet.

I Love the Museum!! I really enjoy their exhibit!! I went for the Egypt… Age of Mastodon…and last on … the Body Worlds… so interesting!!! And of course… I always enjoy the permanent exhibit!! I have a little soft spot for the frogs… and I never miss a chance to say a little hello to Gus… they have so much more… Go and stop by!!

Good place to go as a family. It's not a huge museum, but still a nice get away.

Love coming here almost every time they have a new exhibit. Really enjoyed the Age of the Mastodon one on right now, seeing bones that are thousands of years old is not something I'll forget anytime soon!

It is an interesting place to go with kids. There are skeletons of animals and birds. One section is dedicated to the science room, you can see the globe there. Snake and bees are kept on the other side. There is a tortoise name GUS who is 99 yrs old. Kids will learn the importance of trees by hearing the story. You can hear the voice of different animals in tiny cave. The entry fees is free for July and August 2021.

Great museum, I bring my kids here often and used to visit often as a kid myself. The exhibits change regularly and I find new things in the older exhibits every visit. It was a little crowded but is handling covid restrictions well. Gus is always fun to see as are all the little animals. They're current exhibits are very photo friendly and encourage pictures.
