Great spot for breakfast. Food was great and reasonably priced. Service took awhile given how busy it is.

Went at an off-hour time for lunch. Place was immaculate, staff pleasantly attentive. Varied menu with choices for myself and my gluten-free friend. Had the seafood casserole, which was lovely and crammed full of delicious bites; perhaps just a titch salty that particular day. Would definitely return if in the area.

Sausage was raw. Unfortunately, ate some of them already, so disgusting. Apparently the cook didn’t know the right job and needs to be well trained. Will never visit again.

Having lived for 30 years in South Florida, and 10 years in New England, I've had plenty of experience with all types of chowder. I have to say that this was THE BEST chowder I have ever had, bar none. Staff was friendly, courteous, and very accommodating. If I could give six stars I would. Do NOT miss this dining experience!

We have had this place on our must try list for a few months, so decided to try it out Saturday morning for breakfast. The wait wasn't long at all, and our server was absolutely wonderful. It's nice to see some of the strategies they have in place to keep customers safe. Menu isn't very big, which helps me decide quicker! Breakfast came quite quickly; my husband had Special #3, and I had strawberry French toast. Prices were a bit higher than average, I would say. I LOVE that they use fresh strawberries for the topping, and not just canned pie filling. I was a bit disappointed that the bread was just standard white bread; French toast is nicer with a more dense bread in my opinion. Overall, breakfast was really tasty and we would go back again!

We tried the seafood chowder and lobster roll from Esquire a few times now. The chowder is good, but expensive for the small quantity we receive. It had enough seafood, including scallops and lobster. The lobster roll is always a little too salty and very expensive. The roll has celery and lettuce with lobster. The mayo sauce included with the roll is not good. I would recommend visiting Clearwater or Fishermen's market and buying a lobster or chowder mix to make your own roll. We ordered takeout for $44 and it was ready in fairly quickly but customer service was mediocre. They did not offer onion ring with roll this time. I would not visit again.

Service was prompt and my waitress was very kind! I was impressed with the coffee and eggs benedict I ordered, the location is family friendly with a vintage charm to it. Their food prices are very reasonable and payment was made quick and easy when I was leaving. Would highly recommend anyone passing through to stop by this place! You’ll love the retro restaurant sign on the roof of the restaurant, theres just something about this style of restaurant that feels like home.

Loved this place! I've eaten in some of the finest restaurants on the planet (Ducasse at the Plaza Athénée as an example) and what makes a great restaurant is simply doing what you do best, consistently. The Esquire is a classic diner - so much so I was tempted to steal a menu and frame it (I didn't). Lobster rolls, fish 'n chips, meatloaf, veal liver with bacon and onions...pecan pie and lemon meringue pie six inches tall! I am definitely returning! As they like to say in the Michelin Guide...."worth the detour".

This is a cozy restaurant along the bedford coast. I go there very often since it's close to my work place. I am curious to know why mostly elders eat there! It's normally full at peak time. The food is not too bad and reasonably priced. I like the coffee which is refilled. My friend Cyntia absolutely love the coconut pie cake.

Pretty nice and reasonably priced chowder, that's true. The buns that came with it could've been better. The staff was nice, but the dishes they gave us were a bit dirty (the ones under the main dishes with food), which is okay but still a bit unpleasant... The restaurant is close to the highway, so sitting outside is hardly a very enjoyable experience. The indoor area seems to be cute.

Very professional staff, their mussels dish is very good, after that their lobster sandwich is good, but it is totally unacceptable that their calamari dish is calamari taken directly from a deep-frozen bag and the same goes for their French fries, even with their vegetables, which are all taken from frozen bags. For a restaurant in Halifax where you're not looking for fast food, they serve calamari that I can enjoy at home just by taking it out of a bag and frying it. Forget frozen food, increase price of your dishes and your gonna be the king of your area with happy customer and same profits.

Came here for some lobster rolls but unfortunately they're only doing it on Fridays. We ordered the mussels (good portion and tasty broth) and seafood chowder (loads of scallops, shrimp, and fish) instead. The chowder needed additional pepper and salt for me but it could be OK with you. Hubby also ordered a meatloaf dinner which took awhile to arrive... We came in the day before Thanksgiving so they have a turkey dinner special. We skipped that one but got their apple crisp dessert special instead. Another reviewer mentioned about mostly elders eating here. She's right. Half of the patrons were of that age. Could be menu special or some sort of discount. Anyways, by the time 5p rolled in, there's a line at the door.

Driving by this relic from decades ago made me curious to give it a try. An independent family restaurant that survived for decades must be doing something right. I stopped by today and enjoyed a delicious, fresh lunch. I’m giving only four stars because their famous chowder wasn’t very impressive. Everything else - including the food, atmosphere, menu and service - was top notch.

Always wonderful food and a great atmosphere. I do find it a little crammed but otherwise a really phenomenal place. They don’t takes reservations so if you’re more than 4, your a bit stuck standing in the very tiny doorway feeling like you’re constantly in the way. However worth it. Still slinging dinner style food but incredibly high quality! Service was wonderful. I highly recommend the biscuits and breakfast menu.

The Esquire family style restaurant has been at this location forever. The longevity alone should act as a testament to the food and service. I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. Sure, there might have been one or two times when the meal was a little less than usual quality, but absolutely never enough to write a bad review. They have won "Best of Halifax" awards numerous times and it is because of the friendly service, the quality of the food and the prices. The place has an old-style decor and atmosphere, and the menu could also be considered as old style. There is a fixed daily special menu and if you can hit it on fish and chips day, well, you are a winner. They are well known for their breakfasts, but I have enjoyed many an evening meal with my family. The servers are always busy because the restaurant is always busy (a line-up is not unusual). There is ample parking in their own lot and there is now an outdoor patio for when the weather permits. If they are busy...be patient...the wait will be worth it. Summary: A great place for a traditional diner style family meal at a reasonable price served by friendly people.

Amazing lobster roll and fries... The lobster 🦞 roll 🥐 had huge chunks of lobster instead of the shredded lobster you get in most rolls. Very happy we decided to go here !!!

Had fish n chips (2pc). Pieces of fish aren't that large compared to many other places but delicious and flaky. Tartar sauce and batter was fairly salty but tasty. Plenty of fries! Pleasant staff & good service!

French Onion Soup on the menu.......sorry we don't do it any more, the new menus haven't been printed. I'll have the Greek Salad please.....sorry we can't do salads today, we don't have any lettuce. Someone wanted Lemon Meringue Pie at another table, one of the 4 offered........sorry we're all out of it. This used to be a great place to get a bite to eat, not so much right now. This had nothing to do with Fiona, just rotten management!

Went here as the first place tried was too long a wait and the reviews here was really what sold me. The place definitely has a retro feel to it and a old family vibe too, food was delicious and the server was really nice and attentive. Would definitely recommend checking it out and also trying the seafood chowder!

😠 This is by far the worst burger I have ever eaten in all of my existence. It was just bland chicken between 2 buns !! I took 2 bites and threw the rest. I requested curry mayo which quickly promoted me to rush to the bathroom too. 😫 When I actually looked at the picture on the menu I had my doubts...

👍👍 5 stars for 3 dishes. 1. Bombay paneer curry 2. Garlic naan 3. Dal makhani The restaurant is a bit pricey. But the food tastes amazing. My recommendation would be definitely change the self serving system and the water jug you have replace it with some steel jug or glass.
